The man from Hull won this one Jon..... the plastic bottle let you down. Your expertise is obviously out of his league ... so , make sure u win the next one mate ...
This contest is a lot closer than last year's. I greatly prefer this format, where there was mutual respect for the choices and no one attempted to insult or disparage the choices of the other. Great content and great gear as always!
I liked this format but i also liked the banter from last year. I would suggest upping the budget a little (150$ US?) and say 90$ limit between multitool and Torch) and the balance on the rest?
Watching this video, I noticed there is mutual respect for each other compared to the last budget video. I must admit the last video had an edge of sauciness between both of you which seemed to work. It was entertainment vs a straight review. Now as we know Jon does an excellent job of reviewing, but every now and again a little comedic interaction between you and Jamie is.....well fun to watch. On a side note, I used to work in a NYC rock club and saw Iron Maiden many times. Great gear choices from both you .
Glad to see Sofirn getting some representation on the channel. I have one of their lanterns for camping. it's compact, but has dozens of features and brightness modes. I can even set color temperature as well as brightness.
Who won?? Short answer: Jon Long answer: Wallet: Jon Light: Jon (lots of experience with both and the TS32 has issues turning on accidentally) Multitool:Jon (not a Fan of the M2 personally) Wild card: honestly like both...but I have 3x hoto drivers and love them.
Jon, you never cease to amaze me with the items you find and put into your EDC kits and the very sound logical explination and justification for your choices! Keep up the good work!
I call you both winners for finding gear under the budget! I like Jon's flashlight for EDC carry because of its size, but prefer Jamie's wallet for its slimness. Good choices by both.
I've had the crazy horse wallet for around two years now and it's great, I keep a fisher space pen and the spyderco grasshopper in the larger pouch/compartment and it ages amazingly 💪🏼
Jamie's take on things is always fun. I love it when he pops up on here. Rustic is my thing so I'm drawn to Jon's choice of wallet. The flashlights are too close to choose so I'd buy both and use them interchangeably. I have to go with Jamie's multitool; the scissors are what tipped the scales for me. I see the benefits of both mystery items but can't make a choice since, for me, neither one would have a place in my EDC. To both of you - Brilliant job! I hope to see more of these head-to-head videos.
Thanks for doing a great research on budget EDC gear. It is always fun watching you two doing a battle with a twinkle. My favorites have been Jamie's pouch and Jon's flashlight. Well done, both of you, two thumbs up 🙂
I also appreciate the non-confrontational approach, well done. Torches MUST have 1lm mode so Jamie. Crappy scissors vs no flat screwdriver-at least you could re-profile the silly nail file to a screwdriver so Jamie again. I love the screwdriver but the bottle is also excellent so Jamie by a hair. Jamie's wallet is a little too dressy for me so Jon. Overall I give the day to Jamie by a much smaller margin than last year. Overall winner-the viewers. Thanks
I really enjoy watching you two together, Jon. Your tandem makes everything even more enjoyable to watch. Great video as always, Jon. My regards to Jamie.
Doing Jon vs Jamie on different budgets would be a very interesting video idea. It also gives good exposure to varied EDC gear which is also nice. Awesome video
BEST ONE YET!!! it was very difficult to choose but I ended up choosing Jon’s because I would actually use his wallet more since I feel like I could get stuff out of it easier and the flashlight in my opinion is less bulky, great quality, has more use ability, and I love the charging aspect of it plus you can have a AA for a back up, fantastic for random emergency events. Lastly the bottle I would actually carry it over the screw driver but I am going to get the screw driver because it looks amazing. James won on the multi tool for sure and I can vouch for the roxon I carry the m3 and it’s my favorite all in all great work guys.
I love both wallets. To carry on the tradition of letting John know that he's not allowed to carry a proper wallet, I just want to chime in and say that the Crazy Horse is, technically, a "bindle." I'm wondering, could the card holder actually fit in 9ne of the bindle's pocket folds? Seems like a marriage made in organization heaven!
This is great! gives an opportunity as well to those small up-and-coming brands to be showcased to the people. Not a lot of EDC content creators would bat an eye on these things and would rather spend x100 the amount for fidget stuff. Liked that practicality is always the main focused on each video! Good stuff Jon (and Jamie).
18650 flashlight is a huge win The screwdriver is awesome as well...one thing you didn't touch on is the back turn BUT that makes it also easier to screw/un-screw something Also the snap wallet is awesome
Ok a tough call, but I think Jon has it. And the water bottle doubles as a flask, and a hood whisky or bourbon is a great morale booster. I do like the multitool and the folding wallet. Good job guys!
Cool stuff as always. I had to immediately buy the Hoto Screwdriver Set via your link. I loved the look of that and can't wait to add it to my Maxpedition Mini EDC kit. Very neat and super practical looking little screwdriver set, plus it's as cheap as chips. Thanks for that.
Easy win for Jamie for me. His screwdriver set is fantastic, I ordered one immediately. I also prefer his wallet, I have one very similar and already have a Roxon M2. Incidentally it’s very easy to make the Roxon UK legal by breaking the end of the liner lock off. The blade still works fine without a lock.
Excellent contest. To be honest, i believe i will have to watch it once more before i can cast my vote. This is a very close contest! Well done gentlemen!! Thank you!
Hey! I’ve been using that crazy horse wallet for years! I tell people about it all the time! Glad you got to check it out. It’s a beautiful and functional wallet.
🍻Jon's, although it was 50/50 with the unusual and useful flat bottle tipping the scales for me. Jamie's wallet over Jon's, but Jon's flashlight over Jamie's, etc.
I have two sofirn flashlights. Both batteries crapped out after a few charges. Luckily, replacement rechargeable CR123A batteries are quite cheap even from the major quality brands. With proper batteries Sofirn flashlights are great value.
*_The wallet:_* Jon's wallet looks better. I like the little DIY element to it. But in terms of something that you're going to carry in your pocket... Way too bulky. It's 5(!!!) layers of leather thick, and that's before you even put something in it. Jamie's wallet is just way slicker and more practical. I'll give this one to Jamie with the caveat that Jon's wallet is pretty nice. *_The torch:_* I like the headlight... but it's of limited use. There were one or two times when I could have used a headtorch, but got along without one just fine. So Jamie wins this one again. *_The multitool:_* I'd disqualify both of you since both tools have locking blades which means they're not suitable for EDC. But that's just an UK thing, so let's skip over it. While the Wave is definitely a tried and tested design, I am a bit apprehensive given the provenance of Jon's pick. From the paracord test it's clear that the tool looks like a Wave but functions nothing like it. Also, it's going to be pretty heavy, I bet. So, sorry Jon, this one narrowly goes to Jamie on the basis of "that doesn't look very reliable". *_Mystery item:_* A very expensive weird looking bottle? Not for me. Jamie's screwdriver wins hands down. Sorry Jon...
I really like the little brother of the Roxon you showed. The smaller one has scissors as the only middle tool, but it has a toothpick, tweezers, and a pop out eyeglass screwdriver. It also has the bit kit. And it’s $20. I really like it.
So entertaining! I choose last year's Jon's wallet, fantastic, fits all. Thank you both of you for the show (last year and this year), hope to see more ;)
Thanks Guys! The Acebeam flashlight is the one I will get, it is great to know you can extend the use in any emergency by i=using some standard AA or another rechargeable one. John you might like Stanley ecycle cleanable recycled flask because its flat and you can clean it. Now it only holds 200ml so there might be an opportunity to use it
It's a tough pick this time. I think Jamie's wallet would be preferred and the screwdriver is very appealing I think I'd take Jon's light and the bottle is very appealing. I just generally can't pick a multitool at this price range they all feel a bit too cheap. I think either save up for something a bit better or just go without a pocket multitool in the budget range.
Great contest again you two. Both great to watch. I enjoyed this one as much as the last one. I find that the purchases are very surpirsing and you two must have put in a lot of time and effort into sourcing them as Amazon can often be a minefield of stuff. Really enjoy them and look forward to many more to come.
I liked all of the gear except for the drinking bottle. I like flat drinking bottles as well, for the reasons that you stated. I have bought several stainless hip flasks of varying sizes for around $5 to $8 NZD. So I can take whichever one I think I will need or take 2 if I need more water. They fit really well in a flat sling and don't seem to leak. I have also found out recently that they are great for little kids to drink out of as the water doesn't pour out too fast.
That Hoto lives in my rucksack and I absolutely love it! Got it for myself as a birthday present back in march, and I do not regret my purchase one bit.
Really enjoyed your EDC Budget Showdown 2023, Jon and Jamie! As always - entertaining and informative. There are many items that you presented that I want to research further; and I appreciate that you both were fair in evaluating the items for their Pros & Cons. Frankly, I felt that you both were winners on this one. Jon's Crazy Horse Wallet lacks RFID for credit cards, but I see that it has potential for several other EDC carry options. Liking the Sofirn SC32 over the ACEBEAM H16 (for EDC due to increased lumens & size). ACEBEAM is compact and versatile with the headlamp option (but I'm not liking the lower lumen nor the only orange color option for the headband - black or some other subtle color would be more preferable). Multi-tools presented were a bit of a tie (in terms of Pros & Cons). Mystery items were both hits and worthy of further research for purchase. Thanks & Cheers to you both!
Great as usual ! The screwdriver is impressive and functional !!! You are both very close, you both have useful items, at a good price. The water bottle is interesting and the Swiss Tech at this price is amazing. Great choices !
I don’t think I can actually pick a winner this year!! For wallets, I would chose Jon’s, loved both flashlights, Jamie wins the multitool, and I own both of the mystery items and love them as well! Well played to the both of you and great video as always!!
That Crazy Horse Wallet is the best item in the whole video. I'd also take that Acebeam flashlight... It's compact and seems very practical. Btw, maybe you should review some lighters. It's a good idea to carry one, especially on trips in the nature.
I could see Jon’s wallet leading to a game of 52 pickup when trying to find a card. I liked Jon’s light more though. Jamie had the better tool, wallet and bonus item with the Screwdriver imo.
Great review, especially the flashlights. Both great torches and I have them both. The Sofirn is great for distance, brightness and runtime but the Acebeam is smaller, lighter and the one in my pocket (and has better colour rendition). Equal scores and thanks to both!
These videos are always a ton of fun to watch. I like having options!! Have you ever talked about your time pieces? I've seen you with a Rolex subby, but I may have missed you talking about the black one that's on your wrist in most videos. A Watch video maybe?
What stood out for me: Jon: Crazy Horse Wallet - even though I actually personally own a (different style of) Vaultskin wallet! Jamie: Roxon M2 & Hoto Screwdriver Set - I like these so much I will be buying them. The flashlights aren't really comparable as Sofirn is a definite EDC but is a headlamp generally EDC? Guess Jamie wins this too. Sorry Jon.
@@JonGadget Actually, I've just found out the Roxon M2 has a locking blade, so no good for EDC. I'm going for the Nextool Mini instead. It's smaller but that means it can go on a keyring and, if the scissors are good, it might even replace the Leatherman Micra which currently resides on mine.
I've got the A6 memo and it is great, fits perfectly in a sling or in the backpocket. Kinda hard to deep clean, so make sure you rinse it regularly so it doesn't get dirty.
I bought a water pouch instead - fits inside my little handbag or really anywhere (even a big jacket pocket) - has 0.5l - and no problems keeping it clean. The one I got is Hydropak Stow - which has an internal lid - so nothing from outside can go back. And it's only 20€ 😇🤗
The choices are, as always, down to personal and particular requirements. I would always prefer a slimmer wallet yet a more robust multi-tool. Great video though.
It was Jamie's Hoto screwdriver choice that put it over the top. So much so, that I purchased one immediately after. (Also the Iron Maiden shirt gave have him bonus points)
First off, that 'snap together' wallet is really cool. I make minimalist leather wallets as a hobby. That one is something new to try. Second, does that magnetic screwdriver thing have bits small enough for eyeglasses? Last but not least, I can see Jon filling that flat 'water' bottle with a nice amber liquid and enjoying a day in the park. Awesome vid guys.
I'll let Jamie respond on the screwdriver - I'm sure it would though. I did take it to a festival at the weekend and convince security it wasn't full of Vodka!
@@JonGadget Ohhh, vodka. Ok, not the amber liquid from Scotland. And don't bother Jamie (other than to tell him some rando in the comments said 'get a haircut'). I went on Amazon and found it, and it says it can do eyeglasses. I should receive it tomorrow. It will fit nicely in my man-purse. Cheers from Toronto.
The screwdriver does have some really tiny bits, but if it doesnt have the correct ones for you glasses you could easily get the correct bits from Ifixit and they will fit inside.
I've got to go with Jon, I should carry water more than I do and that bottle could make tt easier to do, but the compactness and versatility oi the light, the great wallet, and better multitool than the alternative made it a clean sweep for me.
I have the HOTO screwdriver, and I have found that the bits with the smallest crossectional tip area do NOT stay in the operational tip of the tool, because the magnet inside is too weak! I have found this very annoying. Next, I have tried carrying a Thrunite flashlight with an 18650 battery around in my pants pockets, cargo pockets, and vest pockets, and it's too large and heavy. I always have a Lumintop AA2.0 in my shirt pocket, which fits perfectly, and using a 3.7 V battery, is both useful and comfortable and delivers ~ 650 L. So, I would prefer Jon's small, dual use flashlight/headlamp. Those are just my observations. And while I have tried to find a big, FLAT, plastic bottle to carry with my EDC bag, I agree that 29 pounds is a bit over the top, certainly not in my meager price range.
Sofirm all the way (Wurkkos, the subbrand this year has much interesting flashlights, TS11 for example). Better user menu, better light. Better form factor choosed on Acebeam. Roxxon has better steel than Swisstech, smaller, but the scissors are more used tool also, so.... Wallets: tie. I like more the thinner, but the Lituanian has a better story and it is more usable. Surprise item: I like the bottle, but this form makes it more brittle, and I can use any bottle anyway, it is not so important. So, Jamie wins.
Didn’t like the multi tools from both, thought both were a waste of money. Wallets were equal. Extra surprise items were personal so I’m calling it a wash…Came down to the Flashlight and Jamie had the better flashlight….Jamie wins again.
Every single item showcased is worth considering. That's a great video and a tough competition! I have a problem with the A6 bottle. As it is meant to go in your bag, smooth plastic is not a good choice in my opinion. If you fill it with cold water, vapor will condensate on it, and your gear will get wet. Well, it's a problem for me at least, here 30°C is too common and humidity is 60% and above 🥵
I really love the vapor bottle. it's $10 and rolls up into a tiny footprint. may be better than the flat one. it's like an adult washable caparison bottle. I use it while walking or working out because nothing can beat the compactness.
Really enjoyed this video, as I always enjoy all the other videos you put out. Had a good laugh when the Memobottle was placed on the table. 😂 I actually bought 2 in that A6 model, and get the same reaction whenever I say how much it costs. Nevertheless, the Memobottle is a great ice breaker and conversation topic as I always take into meetings as it goes flush in my hand with a notebook / agenda, and creates less bulk in a pouch, backpack or cargo pants pocket. See you in the next video. Keep well. Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹. 😉
I'm a Lincolnshire lass in Lithuania. Thanks for including the Crazy Horse Craft wallet. I'd never heard of them before, so I got excited! Hope one day I will support this local business! The wallet's not really my thing, but I like the look of some of their other stuff as I got intrigued. :)
I think I would go with Jamie's picks except for the wallet. I like Jon's wallet more, kinda unique. And I think you could slip in a small flashlight or knife/multi-tool inside. Not sure though but you could update us, Jon? But the multi-tool, specially the flashlight, the award goes to Jamie. That SC32 is a great flashlight IMHO. Never tried anything from Roxon but if the scissors cuts that good then it's a YES for me. Hope you could feature something from NEXTORCH and NEXTOOL in your future episodes, Jon. Love watching you two together. Manila says HI.
A second comment, for a small multitool I use the Nextool Sailor Mini. I have both versions, scissors and pliers. Both very good, both very small. Neither has a locking blade so UK legal. I paid around £15 each.
Useful video, as usual. About the MEMOBOTTLE, it's a very nice invention, because flat and easy to carry in the pouch (I bought the TOMTOC white, after seeing it on your video a year ago), but it is anything but a new invention: our great-great-grandfathers, as the western films of the 1930s show us, used to carried flat flasks of whiskey etc. in their jacket pockets. I really thought I'd buy it to fill it not with unnoble water, which causes rust, but with a precious Macallan de Lalique: indeed, a precious drink deserves a genuine container.
I’m a big sofirn fan and EDC one of their lights but for budget I have to go with the Acebeam. Like the SwissTech Multitool (couldn’t find it on Amazon). Like both wallets 👍🏽 Have to go with magnetic screwdriver for bonus item.
I’ve a Sofirn head torch that is excellent! I also got a couple Bibury pliers based multi tools recently. One that is very Wavy and one that Surged into my basket. Fit and finish is not up to LM standard but I got both for under £65. Will leave the Surge style one at work to abuse.
I bought the HOTO screwdriver last year. It’s ok. Too slick to hold on to. So I put some heat shrink tubing around it. And don’t dare drop it. The magnets are not strong enough to keep it together and the bits will go everywhere!!! Overall not a bad precision screwdriver. I also found the IFixit bits fit much tighter in the HOTO screwdriver
I'm NOT sponsored by Soundcore so I can say this from a customers standpoint. I use their Life Q20+SE headphones every day and love them. They get more use than my Audio Technica ATH-M20X and my Sony headphones.
Easy win for Jamie, really good torch. Nice looking wallet. Great pocketable edc multitool and a fairly nice screwdriver. Against John's, clone tool, weird wallet, 35 quid for a mad plastic bottle only thing that even stands a glimmer of a chance is the torch. Sorry John but you've lost the plot 😂 Well plaid Jamie 👏 🎉 Great video though as usual guys. Thanks for the upload 🍻
I like the idea of the wallet being RFID blocking, but prefer the design of Jon’s. I like my flashlight to shine put the front rather than the side. But I prefer Jon’s form factor over the bulky flashlight. I think for EDC the Roxon is a good enough design, though obviously the Wave clone has way more capabilities, saw and file wise. I have one of those bottles and have never had a situation where I took it with me, so I would go for the precision screwdriver if I had a choice between the two. But then again, water is essential to life, though the quantity of water it can hold is laughable, some is better than none.

Love seeing two friends battle it out, an still respect each other. The cheap Travel Lambo wallet is also a great wallet!

The swisstech actually isn't the same if you get the one with the long tools on opposite side. 7cr on blade, 5 and 3c on the rest of the tool btw.
Thanks Dom 👍
I liked all of the gear except for the drinking bottle. I like flat drinking bottles as well, for the reasons that you stated. I have bought several stainless hip flasks of varying sizes for around $5 to $8 NZD. So I can take whichever one I think I will need or take 2 if I need more water. They fit really well in a flat sling and don't seem to leak. I have also found out recently that they are great for little kids to drink out of as the water doesn't pour out too fast.
Two Go Go Gadget's rocking it out together. 👍👍
Great feedback - thank you
Great as usual !
Great feedback and suggestion 👍
Jaime's pick of HOTO screwdrive & his Sofirn flash light were very good picks also. Hope to see more of these type of videos.
Great battle. Loved the choices. Fun to watch the two of you together.
These videos are always a ton of fun to watch. I like having options!! Have you ever talked about your time pieces? I've seen you with a Rolex subby, but I may have missed you talking about the black one that's on your wrist in most videos. A Watch video maybe?
wallet: i love both. sleek vs rugged. torch: jamie. multitool: john. mystery: jamie
What stood out for me:
Jon: Crazy Horse Wallet - even though I actually personally own a (different style of) Vaultskin wallet!
Jamie: Roxon M2 & Hoto Screwdriver Set - I like these so much I will be buying them.
The flashlights aren't really comparable as Sofirn is a definite EDC but is a headlamp generally EDC? Guess Jamie wins this too. Sorry Jon.
That's OK - some good stuff there
@@JonGadget Actually, I've just found out the Roxon M2 has a locking blade, so no good for EDC. I'm going for the Nextool Mini instead. It's smaller but that means it can go on a keyring and, if the scissors are good, it might even replace the Leatherman Micra which currently resides on mine.
Jon went over budget. There was a bit of some funny math there! Thanks for showcasing some cool gear though.
And it's only 20€ 😇🤗
Love these ! Swap out the wallets and Jamie won for sure !
Cheers mate, the screwdriver is great, Jon has even bought one and he has a million screwdrivers 🤣
@@JonGadget Ok thanks.
I've got to go with Jon, I should carry water more than I do and that bottle could make tt easier to do, but the compactness and versatility oi the light, the great wallet, and better multitool than the alternative made it a clean sweep for me.
I preferred Jamie's mystery item, but on the others I favor Jon's kit. It's just more versitile. But that's a really nice screwdriver.
Love you guys keep up the good banter and budget friendly gear.
So, Jamie wins.
great feedback 👍
1. Jamie
2. Jamie
3. Tie both bad, (one no screwdriver one cheap Chinese)
4. Janie
A bottle for Jon's handbag really???
Jamie
"If you worry about RFID protection in a wallet"?? - That should be a must imo
My vote would be for Jon’s budget kit!
I really love the vapor bottle. it's $10 and rolls up into a tiny footprint. may be better than the flat one. it's like an adult washable caparison bottle. I use it while walking or working out because nothing can beat the compactness.
Ty for this video! I bought that Hoto screwdriver for equivalent of 7.66 pounds, its so much more compact than my Wiha 24 in 1 set, I'm amazed. 😍😍😍
Really enjoyed this video, as I always enjoy all the other videos you put out.
Had a good laugh when the Memobottle was placed on the table. 😂
I actually bought 2 in that A6 model, and get the same reaction whenever I say how much it costs.
I’d love to see a series of “Project Farm” style videos comparing various multi-tools, flashlights etc.
I’ve had a Sofrin SCH-35 Pro for a few years. I’ve paid a lot more for other lights, but always come back to the Sofrin.
Love these videos the banter is fantastic.
A second comment, for a small multitool I use the Nextool Sailor Mini. I have both versions, scissors and pliers. Both very good, both very small. Neither has a locking blade so UK legal. I paid around £15 each.
Nextool is fantastic. I have the larger Nextool Black Knight. It comes in both locking and non locking versions.
I love these battles! Keep 'em coming!
Huston, we have problem - I like flashlights, and mistery tools!
Like both wallets 👍🏽
Have to go with magnetic screwdriver for bonus item.
Lol I have a edc wallet for disappearing into the woods for days on end and the whole thing cost less then £20. Cool video though. Thanks 😊
Love this series. Can't wait till next one.
I’ve a Sofirn head torch that is excellent! I also got a couple Bibury pliers based multi tools recently. One that is very Wavy and one that Surged into my basket. Fit and finish is not up to LM standard but I got both for under £65. Will leave the Surge style one at work to abuse.
Great feedback
Entertaining video as always! I also like an overall budget vs a per item budget.
Love these battles. I still think Jamie edged it. Jon, that water bottle of yours is on that certain cheap website starting with T for £4.04.
exactly i just found few of those bottles on ali for 4 eur
Clean sweep for Jamie.
Prices is the items are about 1.5 to 2 X more when I check them. The Hoto screwdriver is €40, the bright flashlight is €50
I like Jamie's multi-tool and wallet and Jon's Flashlight and special item.
I have the vault skin wallet and I’ve had it for over 4 years, I absolutely love it.
Sorry John but you've lost the plot 😂
Well plaid Jamie 👏 🎉
Great video though as usual guys. Thanks for the upload 🍻
Jamie is good with budget 😊
@JonGadget loved the video, top work as always. You had a look at the GOAT tool yet?
I like the idea of the wallet being RFID blocking, but prefer the design of Jon’s.
I like my flashlight to shine put the front rather than the side. But I prefer Jon’s form factor over the bulky flashlight. I think for EDC the Roxon is a good enough design, though obviously the Wave clone has way more capabilities, saw and file wise. I have one of those bottles and have never had a situation where I took it with me, so I would go for the precision screwdriver if I had a choice between the two. But then again, water is essential to life, though the quantity of water it can hold is laughable, some is better than none.
