Watched this and cried the entire time. Thank you France for teaching your children how important Veterans are and how we should never forget the greatest generation. I feel, here in America, it's slipping away. Beautiful documentary.
@@ashleynevarez2388 I almost cried a few different times!
The US should be ashamed. I'm betting well over HALF the population under 50 don't know and worse do NOT care. IF they DID know they would NOT be bowing to Putin, Kim, Orban and the like. We are losing those precious heroes at an alarming rate and it is so tragic they must "go". Our children need to learn this history and they are NOT and I don't know why.
Apply to today, Nevil Chamberlain, met with Hitler and Hitler said Czechoslovakia was enough and Chamberlain went back to Churchill and said "peace in our time" and WE know what happened after that. Putin is NOT going to be satisfied with Ukraine. HE want' the Soviet Union back and more. So lets stop him and not have to do "THIS" again.
I watched this a bit earlier this afternoon and when those kids and their mentor meet i was in tears. So lovely.
I agree with you 100%. I sat here and cried for the entire time as well! And it moved me so much to see how much the younger generation in France is embracing and acknowledging these wonderful heroes!
Same
Me, too. ❤
Just watched this with my 100 year old father, WWII veteran, 101st Airborne, Fox Company. D-Day, Market Garden, and Battle of the Bulge. What a moving tribute. ❤🇺🇸🇫🇷🇳🇱🇧🇪🇮🇹🇬🇧🇨🇦
Please give your father a big hug and a sincere thank you for his service.
Many WWII veterans who survived say they weren't heroes. But please tell him he's a hero in my book regardless, not only for his service, but for the better U.S.A. he and his generation built when they returned.
Many don't remember the lessons of that indescribably horrific war. If he ever worries about this, please tell him I have read and studied and watched and learned. I have not forgotten. And I will not forget.
you’re father is a real badass and a true hero. please tell him thank you for me
Get him on the next trip!!
Hi there! My name is Rishi Sharma and I interview WWII veterans for the Remember WWII UA-cam channel. Do you think your father would be agreeable to an interview? Thanks and GOD BLESS
What a moving tribute to the greatest generation that has lived. Thank you France for teaching the young to never forget their sacrifice.
Just watched this broadcast on NBC. So emotional! My grandfather was an American pilot shot down by the Germans and held as a POW for 2 years. His camp was liberated at the end of the war. Such an amazing generation of men and women. I'm so grateful for everything they sacrificed for the world. ❤
And the Germans treated him well if he lived 2yrs.
Such an emotional watch. Matt Damon’s narration is spot on. Thank you to the veterans for their service. I was so moved by this amazing documentary. Kudos to Donnie Edwards and the Best Defense Foundation. 💝
A beautiful, moving and emotional salute to “our greatest generation”! My dad was a WWII veteran who passed 3 years ago at age 97! I wish he could have been a part of this awesome presentation. Kudos to NBC and to all of the producers who brought this incredible tribute to all of the veterans. God Bless America!
He hopefully lived a long and good life, and thanks to him for fighting in WWII. The next group of kids will have no idea what WWII is. I asked a 35-year-old if she was familiar with Normandy, and she said no; what is that? I wondered if she knew what D-Day was or the Normandy Invasion; she had never heard of either.
So moving. I'm grateful beyond words that the people of Normandy still honor the sacrifices the Allies made.
Thank you Soviet Union.
One of the best things Ive ever seen on television. It was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. God bless all of our veterans and everyone involved for making this happen. And also, all of the French people that were involved and came to show their respect. My heart goes out to all of you.
I'm a 50 year old veteran. I just sat in my living room and cried watching this. While I was safe and sound onboard a submarine, I can't help but to be in awe of our WWII veterans.
Thank you for your service! In retrospect you were safe and sound on your submarine, but we all know of your bravery and how you were willing to defend this country had a war occurred. I'm so grateful that you did not have to see combat, but please, never underestimate the overwhelming service you gave to us all. Take care

@@laurabobo674 Well said✌
Thank you for your service.
I am a retired major - USAF and flew B52's globally. I know the sacrifices required to preserve our precious freedoms worldwide. Gratitude is one of the greatest gifts known to mankind and I am eternally grateful to the "Greatest Generation" and their legacies of service and sacrifices to America and the world. France has to be proud of their younger generations for their deep appreciation for the history, sacrifices and bonds created with these WW2 Normandy Heroes. We need to do the same in the US. Many thanks to all who inspired and produced this iconic and moving production.
So proud of these men and women and the French people who honor them. During this time of Paris Olympics it’s good to be reminded of our ties to each other
Merci beaucoups France, NBC for producing this amazing video, and especially the vets that served at Normandy!!
I watched this video during the Olympics. It was so moving it brought me to tears. Thank you France for teaching the children the history of our WWII veterans and honoring them.
This was absolutely beautiful
This is wonderful! Thank you Donnie Edwards!!! This is the greatest generation. We owe those men & women everything! Love how France greeted and embraced them....God Bless them all 🇺🇲
I had no idea that Donnie Edwards had a program like this, how terrific of he and his wife to lead these efforts. Incredible!
I cried the entire time I watched this. It's so moving that the French in Normandy gave these heroes such a beautiful reception. Mostly I cried because there aren't many of these heroes left and before long they'll be gone. I wish I could meet these wonderful men, too.
I havent cried in a long time and my eyes were watering with happiness and sadness. Thank you for your sacrifice Ladies and Gentlemen.
So wonderfully done. I sat and cried the whole time....How lovely that France and her children honor the history that is so important to all of us. And what a shame that to our country, these remarkable veterans are nearly invisible. Thank you, thank you to all veterans and those currently serving. You are not invisible to me.
Not invisible to me either. God Bless our Armed Forces current and past!
A terrific segment. I love how much the children are being taught about WWII first hand. Thank you NBC for doing this.
Excellent job by Matt Damon. Well done!
Such a touching, wonderful tribute! 😢 Thank you to all our veterans. We will never forget. 💕 🪖
😢
Thank God and
Thank You for your service
WE, all of us watching this, owe these proud men, everything, because without their sacrifices none of us would have our freedom. I know I will never forget what they have done for us. As I’m writing this my eyes are filled with tears because I know some day we will wake up one morning and the last survivor of the war will no longer be with us and it will be the saddest day in this worlds history. Thank you and may God have a very special place in heaven for each and every one of you.
Absolutely incredible. God bless our veterans.
Wow. Such a beautiful tribute of these extraordinary men and women. They are our American treasures. After watching this on TV, I came immediately here and am glad I can rewatch it. My heart is filled with immense gratitude to these heroes as well as to the warm reception by the French people. ❤❤
Very thankful for all of those that served their country
I wish our children knew about this.
I am so glad they uploaded this to UA-cam!
All heroes thank you for your service 🙏. I wish all Americans could go there an see what they did for are freedom.
Freedom to do what?
God Bless each of these hero’s. 99th checkerboard division always in my heart.
This is so moving! I have the highest respect for these men and women! So awesome they went to a school and talked to the kids!
Take time out and watch it- I cried.
My man, Jake, makes me proud to be a Minnesotan and a Larson descendent.
That’s was an amazing story.
Beautiful tribute 😢God bless all the Veteran’s 🥹😭
I had the good fortune to have met Mr. Arlester Brown earlier this year. What an amazing man!
So important for everyone to know! How beautiful is this !!❤
Just saw this on tv and again here! My father was in the group of men who landed in St. Mere Eglise. I am in tears! Thank you so much!
Watched this the other night during the Olympics. Very touching . I am glad in Europe the sacrifices of the allies are taught in schools . We need those history lessons here in the USA. There is a reason they are called the greatest generation. Thank you ! 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦🇫🇷
🇺🇲Tears in my eyes. My father was a WW2 veteran who died at 87 with his Army uniform by his side. ❤
I had the honour of meeting many of these men during the 79th anniversary including John Foy who uttered those chilling words. A highlight of my life.
Unforgettable
Moving and touching. Beautifully done.
I visited Normandy 20 years ago. Definitely a moving experience, and I highly recommend the trip.
Brynne, how long were you there for? And how long a trip would you recommend one should try to make?
I cried the whole time!!!
This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
This was a phenomenal story. Thank you to everyone involved, but especially those who served.
This was so powerful. Made me cry. The appreciation that another country has for their freedom that we helped them gain back is incredible. And seeing the kids so interested ❤❤❤
God Bless these guys. They did so much when they were young.
Grab the tissues. This is important. Thank you for helping us remember.
God bless all those who served to keep our world free.❤❤❤
Wow, just wow 😢
I can’t say thank you enough for this. It was so moving!
This was so beautifully done!!! ❤
My great great uncle is buried in the American cemetery in Normandy. Thank you for doing the pice its only fitting.
Heroes forever!
SO Glad NBC uploaded this piece! LOVED watching this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazingly well produced. Love, Matt Damon, as a narrator, not agonizingly, slow paced like a lot of other World War II specials, and documentaries.
Amazing. Thank you for showing this.
Great story. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
This was amazing; thank you!
This was absolutely beautiful!!! Speechless with tears …
This was WONDERFUL ❤
This is wonderful. Thank you!
True Hero's
23:41 That was an absolutely beautiful & touching tribute to not only to our Greatest Generation bro the people of France who will continue to teach each new generation of France why they are eternally grateful to the heroes of World War II. Thank you Matt Damon & all of you who put this together so America will never forget The Greatest Generation.
It's terrible that American children overall are clueless of these brave men & women. Very sad 😢
god bless our veterans, not everyone is willing to pay the ultimate price including me and I thank you for your service.
I cried! This was sooo beautiful.❤
God bless their souls
Beautifully done. Very touching and made me cry.
Very moving. I don't have kids. Are there programs here in America for vets to go into schools? I was touched by how much the French children appreciate our Greatest Generation. Maybe more than we do? :(
It’s so important to never forget! ❤
There would be no UA-cam without these people, only highly controlled media. So thank you veterans for allowing us all to come together in more ways than many of us even realize!
What a beautiful, wholesome video. God bless our veterans and God bless America! 🇺🇸
this is so beautiful...
My father served In Pattons 3rd Army. Nothing but respect and admiration for him and these men. By far the Greatest Generation
What a wonderful tribute!
Outstanding and moving documentary❣️
There will certainly be no word strong enough to express the gratitude, thanks, fraternity, friendship that we French have for this generation of men and women who have left their families, their countries, to come and bring us out of the darkness at the cost of their lives, we will never forget, friendship of France
8 August... yesterday was VE Day; and on this day, each year, I bow my head, to remember my ancestors who had boots on the ground in N Africa, in the ETO and across the Pacific Islands.... gutsy.
Epic 🙏🏾🇺🇸
GOD BLESS OUR VETS
Thank you for your service all. One of the greatest generations in my time God bless 🙏 Yes Sir 😎👍
Thank you.
Beautiful ❤
Powerful.
Great documentary! My tears flowed throughout the video. For all Americans, English, Canadians, stop believing that the French don't love you, it's not true! We love you and respect you! Believe me! We are citizens like you. And we love share with you.💙
All of them are the following, but big shout out to Papa Jake. What an absolute legend.
We needed to see this. To be reminded of what sacrificial love looks like.
Salute to these men and women who served. Im not an emotional person, but this tribute made my eyes tear up. This hit harder this aired one week after my family visited the WW2 museum in New Orleans it was a large exhibit 7 buildings large. The normandy exhibit was the most graphic. Again im greatful for these soldiers sacrifice. Salute to all the ww2 surviviors . God bless
Why doesn’t the U.S. treat their veterans like the French do? This is embarrassing for all Americans and is an example as to how the U.S. government should be doing more for them.
WOW!!! 🇫🇷🇺🇲😮😲😯❤️🩹❤️🔥❣️❤️🔥❤️🩹😯😲😮🇺🇲🇫🇷 I've been watching the 2024 Olympics that have been happening in Paris France 🇫🇷 and when I saw this my heart was soo filled with Tears of Joy cause it's such a Special, Amazing, Beautiful Thing to See People that we're willing to risk their lives and protected you and your Nation! 🇫🇷🇺🇲🥲😇🫡❤️🩹❤️🔥❣️❤️🔥❤️🩹🫡😇🥲🇺🇲🇫🇷

My grandfather was a WWll veteran and sadly passed in 2007. I also had the honor of meeting 5 or 6 WWll veterans in 8th grade in 2013 when I was in my school’s honor band and we performed at a cemetery to honor those buried there on what I believe was Memorial Day. The school’s honor band had been doing this for years but sadly we didn’t perform the next year which meant the veterans had all passed, could no longer travel or the ceremony no longer took place.
Sorry about what happened with your Band at School ... But, Thank-You to Your Grandpa for his Service!!! 🇫🇷🇺🇲🫡😇🥲❤️🩹❤️🔥❣️❤️🔥❤️🩹🥲😇🫡🇺🇲🇫🇷
I just want to cry ❤
Sad, in that they will soon be gone. Let's be grateful for the ones we still have.
Never again will TRUE heroes like these men exist. My eternal thanks to our American heroes of WWII
This is a thing of beauty! Phurlctodinious!
Thanks for this. Poignant 🫶🏻
my initial thought is how well kept the cemetary is for eighty years old but then I realized any military cemetary I have seen, in person or on screen, has been well kept. may it always be so.
