- Today we are mocking up & then building the main walls on our 1978 Pop Up Coleman Camper Trailer. I left the old canvas on until I have the exterior panels on to keep the weather out while the build is in progress. The original mock up worked so well I just went right into building the walls and attaching them to the camper.

I feel ya about the multiple trips to Lowes. In an earlier time I lived 2 blocks from our local hardware store. I finally realized a use for all the kids we had.I could send a different kid for each item(so they wouldn't be confused). I could work all day and not miss a beat. The hardware is long gone and the kids grew up,darn.
I am also building a hard side from a canvas popup. Never considered a slide out, excellent idea. I've never used metal studs , but will give them a shot, mostly for weight savings. Apparently they need more corner bracing to prevent twisting of the structure( especially moving down the road). Good luck on your build and thanks for the great idea.

Getting ready to start my conversion!! Are you concerned about the weight of 2x4? Would 2x4 be best for corners and smaller for the rest of framing? Cant wait to see everything you come up with for this!
Yes, very concerned about weight and how it will tow. I'm upgrading the axle and suspension. Hopefully that will help. Kinda figuring it out as I go. So far walls are sturdy and I think it will work out. More videos coming!

I used 2x3, right in the middle. Hoping it will give the strength without a lot of extra weight.
I guess your roof top was pretty solid?

I really hope it does, but is as aerodynamic as a box and light. So It will be interesting for sure! Maiden voyage will hopefully be in the spring!
are you lift the roof to full height, can you really tow this at highway speed?
I talk about it in a later video, it's really not feasible for what I want to do with the build. It is pretty much going to be parked on my property and used as a tiny home.
what size is wood used
2x2 for the walls mostly.
