@14:31 "... unless I start hanging stuff from the ceiling." 😄 You're a plant lady! You're gonna get 17 more plants! 😝I'm seeing a whole green house for you, like, 10 years from now.
I love your voice and that you don't take yourself too seriously. What a pleasure to find another "laugher". And yep, the ceiling is next. I'm blessed in that my house faces south to southwest. The entire front of my house's windows are draped in hanging plants. You are a treat. And such a pretty lady too.
To add to the list: Peace Lilly's. I had one that was struggling for two years ( it was too wet, then it was too dry, etc) in dirt, and it _took off_ in leca. So give it a shot! Also, I had no idea snake plants could do well in leca. I really need to try that! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing, Hallease! I’m a beginner convert to Leca just today! Just got it in the mail. Planted most of my pothos and 1 Caladium. Praying for my conversion and learning continuously from Poms (plant moms) enthusiasts such as you. Thank you!!! ❤️ 🌱
I was in california last week and I saw all these plant and palms and philodendrons on the side of the road and said hm……free plants. If only I could get a cutting… but that might be weird. I’m glad that it wasn’t one of my weird thought and there is someone actually being successful in this. So THANK YOU! 💜💜
The Selloum has been reclassified as Thaumatophyllum Bipennatifidum. I know, it’s a mouthful. That said, Philodendrons LOVE LECA. I have all of mine in it and they take to it quickly and easily.
Thank you so much I’ve never heard of semi. I grow hydroponically and I love this. Most of my plants, a grown hydroponically. I’m going up to get the fit and Alex and I love this method. Thank you
Hoyas are epiphytes which are a type of plant that will just grow on a trunk of a tree and just live so it would make sense that they would do well in leca since it's just rocks and water!
One of these days I'll work up the courage to try semi-hydro! Thanks for sharing your progress. Side note, I ADORE your personal style and you're definitely an inspiration for me to refine and curate my own closet/jewelry.
Love this! Thank you. I'm currently researching to make the switch to LECA but am curious why your containers need holes in them? For aeration? Especially if you don't fill them up the whole way.
I'm so tempted to try this out. I'm wondering if anyone here has tried this with a rubber tree/plant? Thank you for the plant talks. I love seeing folks getting into plants. I have cuttings from friends grandmas and doing plant trades through work and its been so great that this is picking up more commonly.
Oddly enough, a video just showed up in my feed today that said not to try potos in leca. I didn't have time to watch it, but I'm going to go back and see if I can find it since you say pothos is so easy. Your crimson Queen looks absolutely beautiful, a lot better than the one I have growing in soil in my kitchen! I really enjoyed your video and I subscribed.
Looking up videos I just found you and you are so relatable! Covid turned me into a plant fanatic trying to educate herself as I have no clue what I'm doing. I want to do Leca but I'm so afraid 😨 . I'm so glad I found you!!!
Great video and information. I have been slowly transitioning some of my more difficult plants to Leca like Begonia and some others that just seem to love it and have had good success. I've even been able to put some succulents which rooted and are loving it. Thanks for sharing and stay blessed my friend☺👍❤.
Great video. I too am a LECA plant mom. I’ve been converting plants for the past four months. I have found that many of the plants you mentioned converted well. I have about 25 plants in LECA. I have had some losses, but more successes so I will continue . You make a very good point about letting the water roots cone in first. Thanks again. Jennyjentheplantfriend.

I like the option of leca. My only issue with having leca is that I really don't want to spray all of my plants to get rid of pest. I had mealybugs so bad that I ended up going with a chemical systemic that goes in the soil. I will spray those plants too and hope that both methods will get rid of them faster. I am in an apartment with limited space to quarantine my plants though I do have a dedicated space for it, the issue is when I found them originally, they were on 15 - 20 plants at the same time. My quarantine space can handle maybe 5 - 10 depending on the size. It was a bit overwhelming and I had a hard time. You have to keep them quarantine for at least 4 weeks and I think I did it for 6 weeks. I didn't want any lingering monsters to get at my other plants. I was able to free most of those plants from the mealybugs and then I saw them on other plants. This is where the systemic comes in and one of the plants was a leca plant. I had to do something fast b/c I have about 10 plants in leca and the only way to save them is spraying. After this book I am posting, I am trying to find a way to keep the leca, put more plants in leca, and keep the plants free of monsters w/o using a systemic chemical. UGH!!!!
I would also add that you can go halfway mark for water or above one third if your plant was transitioning from water to leca as they are used to water so starting with water and slowly drying out to leca could be a good choice
Thank you for these videos! I'm learning a lot. I have a loooooooot of plants. But I just put my first two in LECA. Trying to rescue a sad alocacia Polly and Monstera! Going to try varigated rubber tree next! Wish me luck!!!
Hi🖐, do all the plants show in this video have holes in the containers? I watched you initial Monstera in the glass vase ( where your hubby puts flowers in:). You had drilled a hole in that vase. And I saw a hole in the Hoya, but the others seem sealed. They all are the same plants I have - awesome😃. You are lovely. Thank you, L ✌🌏⚘
Depends. I suggest checking the root ball first as nurseries will ship plants in pots that are too big in order to make you pay more. Some plants do benift from repotting straight away into smaller pots.
That Philo definitely wanted to get a little root bound before it started shooting off leaves. Tip for that: smaller container makes for faster results! You may notice the same with monstera.
So I was watching this video and realized my 3 plants in Leca had too much water in them. I had the roots sitting in water. Plants seems fine though. I did remove some her water, scary 😳 to see the roots above the water. Do I really need to make a hole in the jars? They need air from below? I need to research this more. I love your videos and you r personality is fun and pleasant.🙏
Hello ..i love your videos. I have a question though can i just use the nutrient Flora micro gro for my hydroponic plant or do i have to add all the 3 nutrients ?
Did you use the same process to plant your pothos that you did your monstera? I’ve currently been growing all my pothos in water for 8 months but was thinking of switching it to Leca.
Hi Hallease. I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for all the info. My question is I just purchased some 4” plants, I do not want soil at all. How soon can I remove them and place them in water. What should be in the water when first start?
As someone who has historically NOT had a green thumb and is desperately trying to grow some plants, I just feel overwhelmed by the amount of factors to control for (light, water, humidity, nutrients, soil quality...). I had this one last surviving plant from my last attempt at being a #plantmom. I bought her a new pot, new soil, moved her to where she’d get more than enough sunlight, watered her weekly, and then at some point realized she was dying and she’s now dead (the roots had completely died). I don’t think I was over-watering and my suspicion is that the soil I bought was infested with something and that really discouraged me. I clipped off some of the tiny salvageable pieces of the plant and have had them in water for about 2 months and most of them are thriving! But now I’m scared to put them in soil and have them die 😩 I don’t have access to LECA here in Mozambique so if anyone has tips for aspiring plant moms in the Southern Hemisphere, I’d love to hear them!
Leca is basically balls of baked clay. You can try using stones of pebbles, the key is to make sure the plant has access to water. I mean you can just continue to grow in water without leca and add fertiliser (ones specific for hyro plants) and they should be just fine with water changes every so often.
I bought some LECA and am trying to get the courage to change my monstera that's currently in a 6 inch pot but needs a bigger pot to semi-hydro but the idea of doing something wrong and killing it is scary ): I also need to find a container big enough to hold it. How often do you find yourself refilling the water for your big monstera and the little ones?
Thanks for all the information! I killed three plants in LECA thus far. A small syngonium podophyllum, a Tradescantia Fluminensis Tricolor and a baby Alocasia Bambino. It might be a while before I’ll try again 😅

It prevents overfilling. (I know you asked ages ago and may know by now, but sharing is caring. LOL)
You might want to wait to move plants from their nursery pots, it's usually better to let plants stick around in them right after you buy them.
Noted!

Hey Hallease! Love your videos. How do you know when you need to repot your plant in a bigger vessel with LECA?
As someone who has historically NOT had a green thumb and is desperately trying to grow some plants, I just feel overwhelmed by the amount of factors to control for (light, water, humidity, nutrients, soil quality...). I had this one last surviving plant from my last attempt at being a #plantmom.

This LECA method might be a good idea.🤔
propagating in water helps them create water roots vs soil roots and water is what they go in with leca! that’s probably why they do bettern
