As somebody who has a career in hydroponics i would like to say i highly reccommend nursery pots, especially if your roots are relatively small compared to the foliage, it really helps with aeration and support for the plant, its also alot easier to get the plant in and out of the hydroton (leca) i would also reccommend black, or very opaque containers if you decide to put the plant in intense sunlight, and especially grow lights to prevent fungus and algae growth! Also, very very important not to slack on the upkeep of water changes, since salinity can build up in the water very quickly in hydroponics and kill your plant babies!! I hope this helps all of you :)
so this is something you don't keep them in all the time it's just waiting until they get Roots but I'm afraid if I put a big tree in there like a dragon tree or corn plant is it going to fall over
Hallease, I just wanna say how much I love the fact that you reuse old containers as pots. I went out and bought a diamond bit with my dad (which was a fun experience because we rarely hangout so it was fun to bond with him lol) so he could show me how to drill holes in glass. In conclusion, your video brought my dad and I closer and inspired me to be more conscious of the waste I produce & the potential money I can save lol Thx for the good vibes ❤️
VIRGOS: No drama. Unassuming plant mommas. Living our lives recklessly, eyeballing half 1/4 teaspoons. Mispronouncing “monsteras”, and that’s ok cause they thrive in our nurturing energy anyway. Love it! 🌈🦋🌱🌸🌞✨
I thought it was absolutely delightful the way you pronounced Monstera. Don’t feel self conscious. You are extremely knowledgeable and intelligent. Thank you for the information. I learned a great deal.
It looks like you're cultivating happiness; thoughtful and researched coaxing greenery to happiness, to thrive and live their best. I'm jealous it looks so fun
This video inspired me to get more plants and learn how to be a green thumb. 50 plants later and it has truly been a source of peace in the midst of chaos. Thank you Hallease!
Hello. I just finished switching all my 35 plants to leca. you made me do it :D I can never thank you enough! I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed removing the soil from my plants, for the last time EVER :D As my way of saying thanks, I want to share with you one very useful tip that I discovered in the process. I found out, that the best way to "reposition" the plant, if you plated it wrong and need to re-do the whole thing, is to just submerge about 90% of the nursery pot in a container with water. (Or you can fill the container you are using, if it's not a nursery pot, that works too). The leca will start flowing in the water and you can just move the plant in it with no problem. Turn it, straighten it, push it lower or even pull it up without the risk of damaging the roots. Then you just lift it up, let the water pour out and ta-dah! You're welcome :)
@@priapulida Hi, sadly no, my dracena got a root rot, but I kept the tip of it to keep it going, put in the water and now it's nice and strong again :)
I know you get sick of me commenting on every video. But let me just start off by saying, ya hair is poppin hunty! 💁🏾♀️ As always you are such a fashion inspiration. Love the video.🧡
You said “I’m a virgo” I instantly thought of Jenna. She’s inspired my love of plants. I’m considering trying this with my fish tank. Ive been researching hydroponics and it seems like my fish and plants would benefit from each other. Plants filter the water and the fish produce waste to fertilize the plants.
Hi there...love your video. I do the same thing with my orchids, they are all in semi-hydro and a few in full water culture. Just an fyi...when watering your plants, it's OK to have the pH closer to the 5 range. Leca will raise the PH by a few, not a whole point, but it will raise it. So just a helpful hint that I've learned from my journey. Please keep up the great work. Thanks!!
Once I was at a plant store looking for ‘soil’ to buy. And I asked the employee, “hi, do you sell dirt here?”. He looked at me up and down and said “no, we sell *soil* here. If you want dirt, go get it at the park” and then proceed to say that dirt has a dirty connotation and whatever his case was. Now, every time I hear someone say ‘dirt’ I get pulled back into that memory and feel the embarrassment all over again
This is one of the most common types of hydroponics media, typically known as hydroton in the agriculture community, but i guess its more commonly called leca in the house plant community?
principle OmNomms it looks like Hydroton is the most popular brand name/the ‘original’ expanded clay balls, LECA (lightweight expanded clay aggregate) is the name for the product itself. kind of like kleenex vs. tissues! :-)
I opened the description and was offended to find that you called me out on bingeing you, cause to be honest, you are hella binge worthy :)) all the love
Super Thrive is so good! My uncle turned me on to it. He's a gardener on a college campus and they use it for everything. I use it on all my houseplants, outside plants & my lawn.
Loved this video! I am also a Leca noob. So fun to convert different plants! I have about 25 pots in semi hydro right now.. 😂 I use water from my aquarium as fertilizer. I like that you use old reusable things and plan to reuse the leca.
You are my spirit being. This is amazing. I love your presence and more importantly, I LOVE your table of contents with timestamps. You speak my language! :D
This stuff looks great! Thank you so much for making this video. As a fellow apartment-dweller, I would much rather not have to hassel with dirt in the house (my cats try to dig into our dirt, too). I'm excited to try it! Your plants all look so pretty and happy.
This is wonderful! I too love in an apartment upstairs, and carrying bags of dirt is a monster. And the soil has fungus gnats everywhere in my home, so I will definitely get into hydroponics. Thanks girl!
I realize I’m like a year late, but I’m just looking into LECA as I recently got my first anthurium and just have to tell you, your video is MILES above all the other informational videos on YT. I love this chill atmosphere and listening to your voice is like wrapping my ears in the softest velvet.. plus, you’re gorgeous and I love your whole style and vibe. Just had to say it. Thanks for the amazing video! Hope your plants are thriving in their semi-hydro-setup!
my poor monstera baby I’ve had for over a year (which is so long for me as a plant expert wannabe) is starting to out grow the pot/suffer and I had no idea you could propagate them till coming across this video! I’m so happy and also I’m so excited to try leca now also 🥺 thank u for this ☺️💖
Definitely inspired to move some of my plants over to LECA now, since I have a bunch of it left over from another project! Also, never, ever feel bad if it takes you a long time to get pH right. As a scientist who has to pH balance reagents, it can sometimes feel like a never-ending struggle!
I just got everything I need to start a hydroponics lab going... and NOW I find out there's such a thing as semihydropnics! Definitely gonna give LECA a try as well, thanks for making this!
Great job!!! Love your energy and enjoyed your delivery. I’m going to try the Leca and see how it works. Great for keeping the gnats away and for those who think they can’t care for plants. Thanks again!

I'm thinking the same thing. Her voice is soothing.
The way she shake those balls grab my attention as I doss off.
Hallease,

AND that Mon-AH-Stera looks so happy!!! I can't wait to transfer my philodendron collection to LECA
These videos are definitely giving me confidence!
I have to say that I am so happy when UA-cam gets it right and recommends a channel that I'm meant to watch.

even though you pronounce monstera wrong, I still like the way you say it
Great video, thanks for the tips
