- In this video I try to give you an overview on the repair and maintenance work which should always be done prior to a Mercedes OM605 OM606 superturbo engine build. Also I show my opinion on a nice 250 to 300 hp setup on the OM605 / 300 to 360 hp setup on the OM606. This is the first of 3 videos where I want to cover all the important information of building an OM605 OM606 engine to a certain power level.

Alot of good advice here, thanks for that and perhaps a compression test of the engine before work begins, first test at room temperature and then one at operating temperature. The egr and crankcase vent system tends to cause a lot of build up onto the intake valves which hurts airflow, as this material falls off the valves into the combustion chamber it can affect the seating of the exhaust valves. Many of these high mileage engines really need de-carb and valve job too. Keep rolling...
Mmmm i will look for part 2 definitely. And your shop too. Thanks for all this free experience
Great video!!! Clearly and easily explanation of diy auperturbo build. This is what I'm looking for build my every day use c250. One more great video.
Thanks, this is exactly the build advice that I needed. I am fitting an om605 into a Toyota landcruiser troopy
I'm putting one in my hilux
I also have an extra cab Hilux and if I had discovered these OM605 and 606 engines earlier I would have also fitted one - instead I have rebuilt the original 2KD engine. Do you think that the OM605 will spool fast enough with a G25-550 turbo and a 7.5 mechanical pump?
Stabil das du ausführliche videos machst
Big thumbs up 👍. Very detailed and nicely explained. I am about to build my first OM606 so i am taking notes haha. Looking forward to tne next part ! Also i would advise to always change the rear main seal while the engine is out. Mine is leaking on my 606.😅
Great to see you back!
nice, im curently doing the same project for daily it. see you soon !!
Great Work 🎉
Great guide!
Nice guide for new guys is std building!)👍
Amazing knowledge
Hey man, im def gonna check your kits! Do you sell the wastegage adaptar too or can explain whats the best wahy to go?
Hello, at what rpms the g25 550 will start to make positive pressure on OM605? I have one on Toyota Landcruiser 70 and i am torn between g25 550 0.49ar iwg and Borg EFR 6258 0.64 T25 iwg. Target is to have some boost below 2000rpm, if possible.
What do you think about the om612
That water line should be connected regardless of water cooled turbo or not. It helps cool the rear cylinders more evenly.
what are the modifications needed to achieve more than 450hp+ . Thanks for advance .
Great info! Thx any advice on an OM602? I’m hoping 7.5mm meken and stock turbo for a while then upgrade turbo and add intercooler later if possible
I think you will have to keep fueling turned way down. The stock turbo isn't going to keep up with the fuel and egt will go through the roof. Especially without an Intercooler. I don't know 602 very well but a 603 turbo isn't going much more that 180-200hp without being out of its efficiency range.
I want make this engine for boat(marine). Please advice wich turbocharger suit me better Holset HX35 or Garrett g25-550.Greath video and knowledge BTW.
Wich one u get ?
Hammer!
At what pressure is the wastegate triggered?
Hello , I have a question , I have a w210 2.9 om602 do you think that engine can raise the 250-270hp?
What is your timing ?
14.5 atdc?
Thank you
Thanks for the advice, about the 7mm elements, where can i find them if i want a local dieselist to build the pump for me?
Mynä-Diesel in Finland may sell 7mm and 8mm elements. Don't quote me on it though.
wie hast du die turbo drehzahl ausgewertet?
just found your channel, very good.. im running a standard ecu pump on my om606 with a stage 2 tune and a td4e turbo, so running about 280-300ish bhp, so I guess my first call would be to upgrade my ecu pump but what elements should I put in... maybe 8mm and would the car still run ok with the original stage 2 tune and bigger pump elements thanks
I need some help. Can u provide me your email ? Thank u
Hello there! I am about to install a turbo on my om605.911 engine. I am gathering information about how to do it properly at the moment because I am new in this stuff. Anyway, can you give me any advice thats not mentioned in this video specifically for that engine?
How to do the oil lines?
I recommend taking the oil feed from the *M12x1.5* hole on side of the oil filter housing, where the oil pressure sensor is mounted from factory.
For oil return you can drill a hole in the block or oil pan.
If you choose to go through the block, there is a flat surface from casting, where .96x engines have their return. I don't recommend this if you aren't removing the engine from the car, as space is very limited and it's also harder to clean chips from drilling (and tapping).
If you aren't removing engine I recommend lifting the engine and removing the oil pan to drill it, then you can clean out the chips thoroughly. There isn't very much space on the right side of the oil pan but it's possible to put a fitting in front of the heat exchanger. If you lift the engine a bit the oil pan can be removed fairly easily. Gearbox support needs to be removed so the engine can tilt back far enough. Shift linkages should also be taken off the shifter so they don't get bent or the aluminium pieces break. When the engine and gearbox are loose, make sure not to pull out too far, or lift too high. If engine is pulled too far out the driveshaft will come apart (unless it has been removed from the gearbox obviously). If the engine is lifted too high, fuel lines or coolant hoses can stretch or break. I don't know if radiator needs to be removed but it may be easier, at least the fan shroud must be detatched from radiator. The best way to attatch a fitting to the oil pan is to weld one on. If you used a fitting that needs a nut on the inside it may be difficult as the ribbed shape of the oil pan doesn't allow for a very wide nut. The dipstick tube is also directly behind the best location for a return fitting so you can't have a very thick nut or long fitting.
Sadly, you won't have a working oil pressure gauge anymore unless you have a T-piece for the oil feed to keep the sensor.
It is possible to drill into the block for oil pressure like I assume it is on the .96x engines, although I have no clue where and it sounds a bit risky from what I've read. Can't really say anything more about this.
I have done this myself on my own 605.911 in a W124. If you, or anyone else has any questions, just ask :D
