    He recommends the R6 for wildlife! The ability to get closer by cropping means most wildlife shooters like me are choosing the R5. He thinks ISO performance is the most critical thing but the R5 's Iso performance is surprisingly very close to the lower megapixel camera. Reach from the ability to crop is the most important factor for wildlife. So if you have the money and its wildlife your shooting, get the R5.

      @cornishblue58 4 роки тому +2

      I tend to agree. I have considered which one to get, and I’d much prefer to pay less and get the R6, but for wildlife/bird photography you do crop, sometimes significantly, which means the R5 is probably the best option

      I suggest the R6 for wildlife because, admittedly, I don’t like spending time on the computer cropping. I’d rather use the right lens and get it right in camera, but I do take your point.
      There’s also the issue that the R6 is a little better in low light, so beginning and end of the day when shooting wildlife, the R6 will give slightly cleaner images.

    This is one of the best videos explaining the real world use cases for each camera. Well done. As someone who shoots action and sports a good bit in a variety of weather conditions, I would love to see the r6 with the same level of weather sealing as the r5, as well as the burlier build quality. Everything else about the r6 is perfect for what I like to shoot. Thanks for a great video.

    Great interview - thanks. I have a 5D3 and 7D2 the latter of which I use daily to take insect/spider macro stills handheld in the field for scientific publications (field guides etc) and birds (fun). The 7's getting old, and isn't going to be replaced. For macro the 7 cropped sensor works really well to see the subject - better than full frame. I'll have to replace the 7, so wonder have you done macro tests with both R6 and R5 Dave? I use a Canon ring flash. I'm retired and all my work is voluntary, so I can't afford to try before I buy and no one seems to test for macro. Please help. Cheers!

      you can set the R5 to a crop so it looks the same but less pixels or crop after its the same without having to worry about he subject been in the middle the good bit for macro for me at least is the focus bracketing ( stacking ) but only in electronic shutter so quiet and fast if your lens has auto focus that is . eg the EF 100 F2.8 L IS Macro you could take say 20 shots in 1 second spanning the complete spider. both the R5 and R6 has this , but I feel you get a better chance of a good crop and keeping the sharp picture with the R5 . that what I've pre ordered and waiting for

    I am still torn between the two. I have always gone for something less than the best version and then wished i had spent that bit more money and got the next step up. I only shoot pictures not video so i don't care about that part at all. I like sport and wildlife and also action and macro so according to the specs i suit an R6, but then i do like landscape and macro with 45mp would be phenomenal detail, so this sends me towards the R5. i currently use a 7D mk1 so either is a vast improvement and a better camera, but do i buy the R6 ands save the money for a lens or something, or do i go for the R5 and know i have the best there is (currently) - such a dilemma to have.

      Go ahead and the get R5. You can always use cRAW if you don’t need the full 45mps for a particular shoot and for wildlife you can enable crop mode and only get 17mps; you have options. Also your EF lenses will be phenomenal with the R5. You can slowly transition to the RF lenses. It’s better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

    I find it interesting how everyone excuses the over heating R5 with its big sensor, 8k video and CFExpress and completely ignores that the R6's small sensor, no CFExpress, no 8k and it overheats just as fast. This guy sounds like a Canon salesman but I did enjoy most of his input. Thx for having him on. Why didn't you ask him about the R6 over heating?

    • @clifton-cameras

      It's only overheats in 4K,. But if you shoot 1080p it won't overheats,.
      4K is overrated,. Mostly all clients views are portfolio in Facebook, Instagram, and most of them used cell phone,.

    • @frankanderson5012
      @frankanderson5012 4 роки тому +1

      Norman Mailerr 'Everyone excuses the over heating R5'? Have you been watching UA-cam? It's nothing but people moaning about it, and by the way the R5 and R6 both have the same size sensor it's the amount of megapixels within that sensor that's different.
      Not having a CFEexpress card on the R6 makes perfect sense as it doesn't have 8k and not having 8k makes it different from the more expensive R5. Also EVERYONE didn't ignore that the R6 can overheat too, again you either didn't do your research or have chosen to ignore the fact. Seems you're complaining for the sake of it.

    I have been thinking that turning on IS on the lens or in-body IS and running with the camera in self mode, with a random lens, may not be the best way to judge IS. I want to understand more about the different types of IS and which mode is best for what types of lenses.

    • @photopositive
      @photopositive 4 роки тому +1

      In short, in-camera IS (aka IBIS) works better with wide-angle lenses. Lens IS works better with telephoto lenses. That’s not to say each isn’t useful with the other, just less effective. So having the combination gives the best of both options. It is also possible to turn off the in-camera IS - either in the menu or simply by turning off the lens IS switch.
      As for performance - all IS is related to you. Some people will be able to handhold slower than others and IS will not even that up for everyone.

    Is the R6 really an upgrade from the 5d4? Would a combo of 5d4 plus the R6 cover all of the bases?

    • @clifton-cameras
      @clifton-cameras  3 роки тому

      In hindsight, perhaps not an upgrade in all aspects. Certainly, some areas where the newer features are handy over the 5D4 but when it comes to outright performance, the 5D4 still does hold some power over the R6.

    • @photopositive
      @photopositive 4 роки тому +2

      It certainly is. I’ve made 3m wide prints from 8megapixels, so you’ll have more than enough with an R6.

    • @falmouthphotog
      @falmouthphotog 4 роки тому +1

      I'm on the Cape, too, and largely shoot land/seascapes. I've printed to 24x36 with my 22MP 5D3 - no problem, exporting from LR or with upsampling by a great lab. I bought the R6 since I like the smaller file size, meaning quicker processing and less storage. I also prefer the dial. I'm not a bird photog where 45MP would be great for cropping. Not to say I wouldn't occasionally like to have 45MP. As Dave says, I can see where the detail could be addictive! May rethink this in 1-2 years.

    • @clifton-cameras

      You'll still be able to print with excellent quality from the R6. On that note, we've got another video coming in the NY regarding the R6 and it's usability as a wildlife camera. We're teaming it up with the 600mm and 800mm F11 lenses too! This should provide a bit more of an insight into how the R6 still produces high quality detail, for digital and print purposes.
