  • This video highlights all the BIG updates and improvements to Helium's chord track feature and its implementation of Tone Packets. We now have two kinds of chord track, local and global, so we can have tracks follow their own chord track and not all doing the same thing.
I also show how you can now drag and drop MIDI clips directly to the chord track, as well as convert existing notes into chords. Also I go over some improvements to other apps which help automate tasks using controller messages.
    Checkout the video.

A visual representation of the chord inversions would be greatly appreciated

The only reason I don't do this ini the dialog is that it would require more octaves on the keyboard. It also shows the chord as Tone Packets transmits it. You can however turn on the ghost track to display the chords along side the notes in the editor. Long press the Track button and set the ghost track to LOCAL or GLOBAL.

Great update. But I find it difficult to move the chords and they don’t seem to snap very well to whatever quantization you have.

Yes, they do snap but you need to use the quantisation to the left of the controller lane. I have improved selection and positioning in the next version.

@Paul I have issues with Helium not playing midi back as I played it. Is there a place I can send you a video of what I mean. I think it’s the control out. I’m not sure I understand why we need separate ports and the control out.

I've just seen your video and asked if you can send me your AUM session. Please see the comments on your channel. It sounds like things are being transposed down an octave or two. Check AUM's Transpose and ensure you are sending on the same MIDI channel from both apps.

I've attempted to reply to you on your channel video several times but the messages seem to disappear after a minute or two, not sure why.

When do you use the controller lane, and when the ports? It a bit confusing to me.

The controller lane in a DAW is typically used to add CC controller data for things like modulation or pitch bend etc. In Helium it is also used to edit the chord track. Every AUv3 has one or more MIDI output ports. You can think of these ports as cables to route data to an instrument. In the 80's when MIDI was invented we only had one cable that carried 16 MIDI channels, now we can have multiple cables (ports) that all have 16 MIDI channels. Things have progressed a little since the 80's.

@@PaultheMusicManThanks for the in depth explanation. Actually it was the controller lanes role with the chord tracks that I meant. Sorry for not being specific enough.

@@mikigreenofficial6058 It was a convenient place to show the chord track as room is limited, especially on the iPhone. Using the chord track is optional, as you could simply add the chords as notes. The advantages is speed and convenience, as well as adding additional control over my apps.
