Thanks, you save my nerves. The UV-K must be turn-on BEFORE plug cable...i tried several times. Damn ,The cable worked perfectly with my baofeng uv5r-pro and chirp...plug and turn on...here with the quansheng and CPS app the process is inverted...good to know
5:45 It's called a passive interface cable. FTDI make a USB to TTL chip but this cable does not have a chip, it's wired straight through and the virtual serial port is created by the radios MCU.
thanks for this video I was having problems getting to be seen by the computer, use a baofeng prolific , lead, but your video showed me what i was doing wrong. 73's
I have a “prolific” cable that my windows PC sees on COM3 port. I have tried to connect my Quansheng UV 5R Plus radio but in “Read In” I get the message “Radio Connected Failed”. Is there any possibility to use it?
If your using Win11 then get either an FTDI or a ch340 programming cable. If it's windows 10 then you will have to use an older driver. I'll have to look to see which one
I think the cable is installed if a comm port is indicated. It's likely the cable is not plugged into the radio all the way in because the "relief" part of the cable is in the way ( hitting against the plastic part next to the vol knob ). Bent the cable relief part upward /away from the vol knob and push the connection in firmly . And make sure the radio is on before connecting the cable ( the only way to connect to progrramming software ).
Just follow the DM1701 video playlist I made, you make the code plug. Baofeng DM-1701 DMR Dual Band HT: ua-cam.com/play/PLtMOAA7SyoKFyisfAZoaZbPx4qDCH6cI9.html
I'm sorry to be the one to break this to you. You're confusing what is an FTDI Cable. FTDI Cables ALWAYS have a CHIP in them . And the USB Plug is almost always LONGER than a standard non-chip cable. The cable that you thought was a FTDI cable has NO CHIP in it. It's a dumb cable. No FTDI Chip inside of it. Therefore, not a FTDI Cable. That is why you got NO BEEP when you plugged the cable in. The CHIP being inside the radio, you connected the Radio to the cable and the computer BEEPED. If the CHIP is inside the radio, not the cable, it's a DUMB cable. The DUMB cable is what you find with most cables that are shipped for DMR radios. Most of the TYT DMR radios & the Baofeng RD-5R cable is a great example of a DUMB (non-chip) cable. True FTDI Cables have a longer plug on the USB side with a RED DOT showing up on the case of most of them as a way to further distinguish the authentic vs the fakes. And WILL BEEP on the computer when plugged in EVERYTIME. FTDI Cables when plugged into ANY computer will make a sound. And they will automatically be assigned a SERIAL COM PORT as windows will do this automatically. Prolific Cables and their device drivers have had problems with Win10 & WIn11 for years because the Chinese cheated and introduced fakes. I think the CH340 is the latest answer from the Chinese to fix the Prolific Driver mess they created. Go on Amazon and do a search for FTDI Cables. MirKit & BTECH are reliable sources of REAL, AUTHENTIC FTDI Cables. Most, if not ALL of them will have longer or extended USB shell and a RED DOT on it. Or, might have the Logo FTDI stamped on it. Again, this is to ensure the customer knows that they have an authentic product. Not one of the many fakes. Manufacturers of authentic FTDI Cables want you the consumer to know that you have a genuine, authentic product. And they take add'l steps to make sure you know.
That's why I said I'm not sure what it's called. But thank you for your long post explaining what an ftdi is :) why would you "hate to brake it to me ?" I started this channel for this exact reason to learn from each other :)

I’m using Windows 10. It will be great if you can tell me which driver to use and where find it. Thank you in advance!

Sofware
Use CHIRP chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home or the CPS from qsfj.com/support/downloads/3002
Using the software to program this radio is worst then trying to load and use thunderbird email. They are both crap.
LOL each to their own. i found it rather easy also Thunderbird used to be the best.
I also found it easy 💯💯👍👍
this video is showing stuff i have no interest in. why show it? thatsa bad cold.
Lol. Don't watch it then.
