I have to say I found your videos about 2 months ago as I was finishing tiling my house. Watching your wainscoting videos inspired me to give it a try, and I'm almost done with the first room. LOVE the pocket joint idea and it makes things far easier to install, and your detail on how you do the work helps so much! Keep it up and thank you for all you do with the videos!

You should consider using the zip wall adjustable posts (or similar). Not designed for heavy weight but would work great for situations like this where you need an extra set of hands. I've used them in similar situations and they worked like a drea.

  • @michaelwangler486

Great layout. Regarding the flaking of paint off the plastic, If you use the 3M hand tape dispenser with 9" paper and run it around the room above the plastic you will not get as much paint on the plastic and it won't flake off the paper. This also allows you to put up the plastic quicker since the dispenser tape forms the seal against the wall..

Have you ever tried the fast cap third hand support system? They extend to 12' and have a handy jack at the top to help get your stuff tight to the ceiling. I use it for cabinets and trim, but it would also work on a large ceiling install like this one.

Slick, clean, & great detailed trim work. Very nice and really looks great 👍🏻
Never disappoint when watch a vid, & am always fascinated by the lengths you (& many others) go to for a “project”.....what separates good, from great; imo😉 (6:08 for example, as you’re taking care to make the vent right; along with supporting the ducting w/o any kinks/bends..... Some ppl wouldn’t go thru these steps & just do whatever to get job done, I’ve seen it...)
    Cheers✌🏼

I would love to see Richard do some precision finish carpentry in my area. The average home is a coal mining house built well over 100-120 years ago. I just installed a bifold closet door in an opening that was over an inch out of square. And the sad thing is that door frame was possibly built completely square in 1890. LoL

You've done some awesome work in that house! I think I've watched all of your videos now and am very impressed with your work and have learned a ton. I'm applying a lot of your advice to some staircase wainscoting that I've been working on. These accented ceilings you've done look amazing. In both videos you have pocket screwed the framework together and then did the same thing I would do....say you're never doing it again but do it anyway. :) How would you do it if you didn't pocket screw it? Say the room was twice as long...that would make it pretty tough to lift the whole thing up. So would you just nail it up piece by piece? Pocket screw sections of it and nail it up in sections? Maybe use biscuits somehow too? Thinking out-loud...Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world!

Finish carpentry tv. A trick for eliminating flaking paint off the plastic is to take it one more step further and run a length of paper and tape with a masker along the perimeter of the plastic so that majority of overspray is on the paper not that plastic. Paint won't flake off the paper like it does plastic. I take that extra step now cause I hate having to clean up after flakey plastic 😎
