  • I had an impromptu chat with Juliana Korver, 5 time world champion, and we talked about the things we have learned through our titles and what we are still working on. I really enjoyed this conversation and am still pondering some of the insights she shared with me!

Hey Paige, I honestly do not follow professional disc golfers because of their winning status. I choose to follow pros who uplift, teach and encourage others in the sport. Keep reaching for new goals and whatever brings you peace in the game.

Wow, what an awesome perspective. Your worth is never found in just one thing. There's so many things you can place your value on, being an advocate for the sport, being a good sister, friend, daughter. So many things have so much value and this is such a good reminder to myself that there's so much to life and accomplishments are great and all but it doesn't have to be all you focus on. Thank you ladies for this inspiring conversation!

Beautiful, authentic conversation. It is the normal cycle for all careers. It doesnt even matter if you reach the very top or not. There is a point where the motivation that started the career drops, and meaningfulness becomes a nagging question. There are always tradeoff to a singular focus. Over time, what was given up, becomes more salient. Finding enjoyment in a fabulous shot is one way to sustain a career. Finding a way to give to others in another. Many successful people start foundations to give more meaning to their lives. Fame can be cashed in and shared. Some choose to restart with something new, like taking on Freestyle, or the investment broker who takes up painting. Careers have natural cycles and existential moments. Being authentic and asking those who have already experienced what you are feeling is a wise approach to finding your path, Page. Thanks for sharing.

What an awesome conversation you both allowed us to sit in on! I think understanding the mental, emotional & physical drive you both have is what sets world champs apart. Some of us may want that title & even strive for it, but the dedication, discipline & constant hard work is something the average player just doesn’t have. You ladies are truly inspiring💕🥏⛓💥

Life is life and having purpose driven life with goals and expectations is wonderful. Athletes in all sports reach same pleatues In their careers. Is this who I am and good to see Paige looking at her world differently and seeing the endless possibilities and what direction in life and her career. I can't wait to see her development and directions she takes. Good luck, Paige on where you go and what you accomplish.

Both of you are describing the thoughts and feelings of anyone who has reached top-level sucess in their field. This could be anything from music, acting, car racing or tennis. I felt it when I was building my house. The planning, anticipation, problem-solving, training and doing was a rush. Once finished, there was that let-down. You both were touching on it. Making the great drive or the clutch circle 2 putt is fantastic. But once you have the trophy in your hand, the let-down begins. If you invest your happiness in disc golf as Julianna described, you may run the risk of driving yourself into a depression. Some people may engage in unhealthy behaviors to alleviate that negative feeling. Being the best player is great, but you should think of leveraging that experience and exposure to find other avenues of self-growth. You could encourage schools to add disc golf to their athletic programs. Or become a spokesperson to get the sport added to the Olympics. Julianna left the sport to grow in the IT field. Paige seems to be poised to become the Arnold Palmer of disc golf and bring more young people, especially girls, into the sport. Fabulous interview. I am keeping this clip to show my grand nieces.

I really liked the talk about self-worth being wrapped up in what you do. If you value yourself based on what did accomplish vs what you could accomplish then your value is directly related to your mental state in an even more tangible way than normal. Obviously, your self-worth will be dependent on your mental state but using a formula like that to determine your value is guaranteeing that you will think poorly of yourself at times. No one can accomplish everything all the time. I often have to remind myself that the fact that I keep trying despite my setbacks is valuable enough to believe in myself.

Hi Paige, this was a very interesting video. My real comment however is on a different subject: I put and approach with one of my three Fierces. I just got two Passion first runs, blue and green. Could you maybe design a disc less pretty so I can throw them?

Awesome chat! I think relationship is another big part of it in terms of an area to find value. Nothing helps you find value like being valued as a person (not just as an accomplish-er). To find that, you have to let someone know you as a person in deep friendship and in vulnerable areas where you aren't accomplishing up to your standards.
As a Christian I believe this ties in to God's love for us (which is such a process to understanding because we want to earn/deserve that too). In Chip Dodd's Voice of the Heart he talks about self-esteem vs self worth. Perhaps an artificial distinction but basically saying that when we fail to receive the intrinsic worth that God places on us, we strive to create self-esteem through accomplishment.
Anyway, good stuff to be working through! Mindset by Carol Dweck is also good in terms of seeing the difference between identity in outcome vs identity as someone who's growing. Also very good although not quite as deep as figuring out receiving and experiencing love that's not tied to performance.

Paige is kind of describing the flow state of a highly competitive precision oriented round. Your shots go where you want, and everything flows great. That can usually mean a winning round for these two.
