    Does the OMTech Polar have to be sent back if the laser tube goes down? Short answer, no it does not. The customer will be able to replace the laser tube themselves with relative ease. It's been confirmed with OMTech's Chief Operating Officer that OMTech will be carrying OMTech Polar laser tubes in the inventory and on their website very soon.

    To me the problem with Omtech Polar is that you can't really buy the tube. They don't sell it on their website. And when I reached out to Omtech, they said that the tube is Yongli T10 which was specially customized for the Polar machine and that they can provide a replacement while the machine is under warranty, but they don't sell it otherwise. Which basically means if the warranty has expired or if you got a second-hand machine and the tube died, you are in trouble.
    Omtech doing such thing isn't cool in my opinion.

    You statement, regarding the Glowforge tube replacement, yes, Glowforge would have everyone believe the tube is not user replaceable. However, myself and a couple of others on the Friendliest Glowforge face group page have been working on how to replace and align the Glowforge tube and have been very successful…. So, although Glowforge would like everyone to think only they can replace the tube, we have found this to be false.

      Thank you for clarifying and sharing. I haven’t had the opportunity to disassemble and tinker with a GF and was going off their policy. I’d imagine it’s similar.

    Omtech does not have this tube available for sale on their website and after searching for 30 minutes or so I can't find the YL T10 (or Yong LI T10) or any other iteration of this spelling anywhere on the internet. It seems like when the tube does need replacing, this machine becomes a Bic lighter that ran out of fluid.

    Omtech just sent me a new laser tube but How would you remove the water from the old laser tube and do you have to cut the rubber tubes cause it is on there pretty tight.

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  4 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately there’s no easy way to do it. You can siphon the water out of the tank or get a pump. Once the tank is empty there will be residual liquid left in the tube. You’ll have to be be careful when removing the the mounts and tubing not to spill the liquid inside.

    I was wondering about this. I just received my OMTech Polar earlier this week. I was wondering if I should hold onto the shipping crate.

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  Рік тому +2

      I think they recommend you hold it for the first 30-60 days “just in case”, but mine ran perfect out of the crate. Glad to know it’s completely serviceable by myself if I need to

    Have you taken the aluminum cover(left side) off of the controller yet? If so just wondering if it says Gweiki? So far this looks identical to my Gweiki Cloud Pro. Just curious if it's the identical machine or if they put a different controller in it.

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  Рік тому +1

      Gweike and OMTech are collaborative partners. I confirmed this with OMTech, so many of the parts may be the same. I have not tested the gweike cloud so I’m unfamiliar with their controller but the polar uses the RDC6442G-B (EC). This is the same exact controller on my 80w

    • @reeves29456
      @reeves29456 Рік тому

      @Edmonds Woodshop I can't figure out what the controller in mine is. It's not in a standard Ruida case, it's just a standalone board with integrated stepper drivers. I heard it's a Ruida but haven't been able to confirm. Do you have a picture of the controller in the Polar?

    Im wondering if this Omtech polar laser has a visible red laser which is useful for alignment and/or framing your work before initiating the engraving/cut? I really like the print & cut feature of lightburn which allows you to realign a workpiece that's been moved and I'm wondering how would I be able to use this feature without a visible red laser guide.
    Thanks

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  Рік тому

      It does not have red light. Maybe you could modify and add one, but you would normally use the camera to align your print and cut feature

    Can you put a larger wattage tube?

    • @EdmondsWoodshop
      @EdmondsWoodshop  Рік тому

      Not that I’ve seen as a direct replacement. The tube diameter and length needs to be equal to that of the tube that’s currently installed. If you want to be able to have a laser that’s easily modifiable then you’d want a cabinet size laser

    • @EdmondsWoodshop

      There’s a cutout in the middle of the polar so it can be as high as you want so long as you raise the legs of the polar

    • @yas375
      @yas375 4 місяці тому

      I reached out to omtech and they said the tube is customized for the Polar machine. They don't seem the tube separately. They can only provide one under warranty. Based on what they told me it looks like the machine isn't really serviceable outside of its warranty period.

    • @EdmondsWoodshop

      Yes it rides on the gantry. There’s an internal chiller that holds the coolant/ water. They say that it just needs to be topped off

      They’re just sitting on top of the laser. There’s two screw that hold the covers on and then you can pop them off. Don’t do what I did because I dropped one of my covers and shattered the glass
