Brent, I'm a state certified general contractor in South Florida doing all types of projects. I learn this trade by watching pro's work for over 30 years.
This was the first time that we installed 2500 sf of synthetic grass . Our project came out perfect.
YOU AND YOUR VIDEO WAS THE BEST ! THANKS !
Thank You for building my confidence in Synthetic Grass in my 60,s coming for a valuable source this young man is doing great videos no more rabbit ears on the Television
Thank you, love all the details. I feel more comfortable doing my yard now.
In Scandinavia, the popularity of artificial turf is so great that it's causing a huge disposal problem. It doesn't degrade. It's not recyclable. There are literally mountains of stacked-up used rolls of artificial turf. Before installing artificial turf think about where it goes after it's been used or worn out.
It’s so overpriced here that maybe they should ship some this way for repurposing!
They have this invention called🔥.
@@Jezidka Oh, right. In this age of concern about increasing CO2 in our atmosphere what we need to do is burn more plastic. That's as damaging a solution as the landfill 'solution'.
@@harperwelch5147 C02 isn’t a problem but that’s ignorance for you. A volcanic eruption puts out more than man produces, the ocean produces it daily and trees love it. Let’s talk about carbon monoxide and other noxious gases that are an issue. Burning plastic isn’t going on in large quantity and recycling plastic is at a standstill, more proof that only mankind thinks he can control things when he can’t control himself lol
@@lechatbotte. , a volcanic eruption does not put out more CO2 than mankind, but that's ignorance for you. Someone memed that falsehood, idiots latched onto it, but it's been thoroughly debunked. You should pay better attention. Volcanos emit about 200 million tons of CO2 yearly. Human activity produces about 24 billion tons yearly.
The oceans emit CO2 (decomposition) and absorb CO2 (aquatic plant growth) for a net change of zero. The same is true of forests. Trees decompose, they emit CO2. Trees grow, they absorb CO2.
Humans produce CO2, and never absorb it back. The plants have to absorb it, but then the plants eventually die, and release all the carbon they had absorbed.
When I downgraded to a smaller place into a condo, I really wanted a grassy area for my dogs to enjoy so laid turf. There was already an area covered in asphalt rock (hideous!!!) so I hauled it off and now love my turf lawn. Forever green and forever trimmed.
I like how your dog is monitoring your progress. Or maybe he’s like wtf are you doing?
Has anyone else noticed that he uses "therefore" excessively? The content is good therefore I'll keep watching.
Thanks man! You literally help me get clients. When they try this out and realize how much of actual hard work it is, they call us 👍
Lol, that’s what I was thinking :). I looked up the cost of turf at Home Depot vs the estimates. I didn’t realize how much labor and additional materials are required.
exactly v hard work.
SO TRUE! I just told my hubs, "NOPE! We are NOT doing this. We are writing a fat check!!!" Too many steps to get it done the RIGHT way!
This is the best installation video I have seen. Great info and accurate.
Honestly the best turf installation video. Easy to follow and great tips! I'll be transforming my dog area soon!
I had to come back to this video to let you know that my husband and I tried your technique and laid turf this weekend. It came out looking AMAZING!! Thank you x1,000. I wish I could post the pictures here to show everyone. We did skip the step of the rocks & paste mixture, and only did rocks and dirt, and compacted that. For the most part we have a nice smooth finish, my guess is that over time we may have some dips here and there. Nevertheless, I'm 100% happy, and I hope that anyone considering laying down turf, finds this video.
I think i missed on the video the "paste" of the rock and paste mixture. What kind of paste is it? o what % of dirt did you apply to the mixture?
@@rodriguez1616 That was my error. I thought it was a paste but it was only rocks. Rocks and a dirt is what we compacted.
Amazing! Question. How long did the transformation take?
Great to hear Leah and thanks so much for watching. I would say it physically took me around 40 hours and my dad helped for around 16 hours.
Amazing job. What is the total cost in materials?
Nice. Now how to protect from neighbor's dogs
I did this for 2 years. This is a days work for a team of 3 people when everyone works in sync.
Amazing. I do metal detecting. Don't think we'll be knocking on your door for permission to dig. 😂. Love the before & after shots.
Hi, just wanted to say a huge thank you for this video. I've never done a job like this before but with thanks to this video I took out all my old lawn and relayed with fake grass. This is a great video and from the comments I can tell it helped alot of other people
wow this was an incredible video
Like 7 years ago, we were in a drought in California and our landscaping company would get a lot of requests for synthetic grass. This is so much god damn hard work, I hated working on artificial turf. It usually required a few weeks of work and is so expensive, mainly because the artificial turf is expensive. But at the time, California was offering grants to make your garden drought resistant.
You’re giving me the motivation to start a project like this. Ours is not that big so hopefully it won’t be so bad. Thank you for a great video. I’ve learned so much.
I learned enough to start my own home project!
@@locovideprodid you start?
@@internetguru7533 no, I changed my plans for now. 😁
Very well done. But I added an extra layer of weed mate on top of the crushed rock but apart from that I did the same as you.

Great video. I went straight to your suggested turf site and ordered samples. I'll eventually get the materials from them. Thank You !

Awesome video!
I enjoy mowing the lawn once a week :-)
“Better for the environment”
*lays down 1.5k pounds of plastic pellets
And 600lbs of plastic turf!
And what's even worse, a good part of those plastic pelets would end up washed into the drainage and eventualy rivers and oceans!
I guess neither you nor Stormtrooper decided to calculate the amount of water saved vs the polypropylene used in this install. The environmental impact is in favor of artificial turf as opposed to watering every other day for eternity
@@GrecoRider Well, in his particular case, he stated in the video that the lawn wasn't watered before, so there was no environmental impact. Installing plastic grass kind of made things worse. I won't judge the guy for wanting his house to look nice, but there's no gain for the environment here.
@@mateusssssss567 I feel the same way but I can see how it would be better for the environment to use turf. And it’s not just “plastic” like forever lasting, turtle killing plastic. But it is a concern still! But no more mowing even if he had used an electric mower. Don’t need to do maintenance on the mower. No chemicals on the lawn to make it look better and to kill weeds. I don’t think the water usage is a good argument, not just because he didn’t use much water anyways. But also because water is good for the environment, but overwatering or using a lot of water puts a lot of strain on the environment when it comes to getting the water to the property. I’d feel differently if it was on a well but assuming he gets city water it would cost a lot too. But I feel like having natural grass would be better for plant life/insects/animals. For me I would want real grass, even if it doesn’t come out this “perfect”. I guess it really just depends on what the person wants or what they feel is best?
@@GrecoRider what about all the round up???

What a bloody great informative well put together video.
I don't know if this is available everywhere but I live in Central Ohio and our county cooperative extension service sells the landscape cloth by the lineal foot from a 20' roll. The locals call it "cow carpet" because it is often used by farmers underneath gravel to create areas for cattle to keep them from beating the stone into the ground. It's cheaper than buying at the big box stores and eliminates multiple seams and reduces the amount of staples needed.
BEAUTIFUL job
BEAUTIFUL presentation
THANK YOU Thank You TY.
My buddy down the street did his entire property..about 3K sg ft. (I was skeptical...but I have a Very small lawn space due to layout of home, garage and MASSIVE drive way and other hard scaping.) I travel a lot and volunteer with Veterans so ZERRO yard maintenance is my goal.
Long story short(er) -- skeptic here, decided to remove for free his scraps. I pieced them (and created a Very Nice lawn...just to see how it weathered the northwest winter rain). In short, I LOVE it. 0ne 7.5' x 60' roll should easily do half my project. I can then cut existing pieces into 1' x 1' squares to alternate with 1' x1' pavers.

About to mine any advice?
I guess it would depend how big your yard is but how much money would a project like this take? an approximate
@@Alvy691 Including materials like infill and nails, it is about $3-$4 per square foot. This also depends on type and weight of grass. But I paid $750 to have 250 sq ft delivered with nails and infill. It is more if you need to get padding or decomposed granite layer below.
How is it when leaf raking? I have year round leaf fall and small berries through summer.

Hello! Excellent video. You tackle all the questions and potential problems with clear explanations and of course good videos. 1 question -- in many of the DIY artificial turf posts and videos and instructions it is advised that you use some manner of edge restraint to help make sure the edges don't come up -- especially in high traffic areas. Using pressure treated timber allows you to nail the edges along the wood. I noticed you used 5 inch nails at close intervals directly into the soil/sub-base. What was your thinking here and do you feel like the use of nails is sufficient to hold down the turf along the edges.
The nails are intentionally ungalvanized. Over time the nails will form rust in the crevices of the base material and actually lock the edge into place.
FACT! Iam currently pulling those spikes!
Wow it’s literally that simple 😅 thank you!! I have a small rectangular space I want to lay down soft grass and this was very helpful
Hello from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. Thanks for sharing your great video’s please keep them coming.
Great video one suggestion though. Cut all the rows with sod cutter. Get a day laborer, rent a dump trailer about $150.00 per day. Pay the dump fee for weight. Total cost probably $300. Bill it in the quote from the beginning. Save your back and wear and tear on your truck. I learned the hard way.
How much was your project and what size area did you install it on? Thanks
Wouldn’t a pre-emergent type weed and grass suppressor be safer and more effective than glyphosate for preventing future growth in your future lawn?
what a beauty! the only missing part is the cost!

@Dan S that's your opinion, mine is different!
Great job! It looks very nice! Thanks for all the details in your installation.
Looks beautiful! Great job!
I love my turf since I installed it a few years ago... but... there are a couple of things I wish I'd known before hand.
Turf doesn't absorb the heat like grass does. The synthetic material acts like a barrier reflecting sun and heat back up. In Texas the heat can be unbearable. Being outside mid-day is at times impossible because the reflected heat from the turm makes it stifling.
Also, the smell for the first few months was hard. This stuff is rubber and plastic so it off-gasses. With my asthma it was a challenge but worth it.
Additionally, no one talks about the fade and dulling factors or the slip factor. When it's new, it gets slippery when wet, so if you are on an incline watch out. And because it is plastic it oxidizes and starts to lose a little color.
I couldn't afford to do the whole yard at the same time, though I'd purchased all the turf at once, it was the labor that killed me. When I installed the next section one year later there was quite a difference. I used some conditioners that helped blend the two and wished I'd done it from the start because sine then the newer section has faded very little.
So in the long run I would do it again, but would plan better for the shortcomings of turf because there are a few.
But honestly if its that hot outside especially Texas heat who goes out and plays in the yard? I'm getting ready to DIY fir my backyard in Boise. We get 100+ Temps in summer. We ain't going in the yard, we'll stay under the patio until fall, spring & winter
@@mptemplin The heat transfer is so much different than grass. You can feel the heat radiating from the turf while sitting in the shade near the edge of my patio. Grass actually helped keep backyard cool. We had dirt only for a few weeks and the heat is far greater than when the grass was growing.
@@joshnixon2917 that's one of the reasons I've told my wife and daughter abt natural grass.
This looks amazing. Just one question though. How was raking this thing?
As far as the gravel it should be medium to slighlty heavy

Very thorough. No corners cut.
Now you gotta do the same to the backyard lol
I am definitely using this video as reference to do my front and backyard. Living in Arizona is too difficult to keep your lawn nice and green during summer. You have to use waay too much water. And just having rocks looks really boring. So I want the synth stuff that doesn't get damaged easily with the heat here but also doesn't get extremely hot with sun shining on it all day.
