    Did mine about 5 years ago I was told to use a tile batten around the edge and do the base like block paving (wakering higher than needed and screed it off to the right height ) was really hoping you show me a better way of securing the edges down did you say you usually just use those 4 inch staple like pegs? . The battens I've used have al expanded and the ants have had a party underneath so I need to relay it all . I didn't use that top layer which maybe an anti insect product so I'll have to use some of that stuff too. great work guys you always turn out great work

    As a fitter, I tend to lean away from kiln dry sand.. birds can excrete on top of the grass with sand in and cause seed germination. For me, sharp sand days are over now.. too much movement over time. 20mm to dust hard-core and 6mm granno dust 👍

      Hi Slashley Gibbins,
      We all have a responsibility to reduce our plastic consumption and help maintain the stability of the planet. Construction is an area which unfortunately uses a fairly large amount of plastic, not only in it's materials, but also it's packaging.
      Fortunately the lifespan of these lawns is so long, that they are not just throw away items, and will be in place for many years.
      It would be good to see the companies who produce them introduce recycling schemes to help lessen the environmental impact.
      All the best, John 😊

      @@BuildWithAE The lifespan of these products is one of the real worries, they do no biodegrade, they are also a real risk to wildlife and habitat across the country. Incredible that we have got to a stage where people want plastic in there gardens instead of grass.

    How utterly vile. Why would anyone want a plastic back garden? Lawns / meadow lawns / moss / lichen can provide vital habitats for insects and animals which are so important to the ecosystem. THINK about what YOU can do to protect our wildlife and LEARN about the joy of gardening. EDUCATE yourselves into the harm you are doing. This is so completely awful and depressing.

    Awesome job. Love the sleeper edging.
    Quick question on the grass. I'm planning to do artificial grass in my garden. The width I need to cover is 4.5 meters but most companies only sell max 4m wide. As my lawn is going to be an irregular shape, I'm considering buying longer length than required and the off cut will be more than sufficient to cover the extra 0.5m width I need. However is it ok to join a hand cut edge with a factory cut edge?

    • @martinknight9027

    Hi I’ve recently laid artificial grass in my back garden. I laid and wackered mot type 1 and then began to add sharp sand and realised I didn’t have enough to finish the area. I wanted to complete it that day so I quickly ordered more sharp sand and added that to finish my base. Since then I’ve emptied a paddling pool on the artificial grass and it’s caused dips. I’ve pulled back the grass and measured to see I’ve got a thickness of 50 mil of sharp sand. I believe I’ve got too much sharp sand down which is causing the dips. I was wondering if you could advise me on how to solve this problem? Is it a case of removing the sand and adding more mot or would there be an easier solution at this point?

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Owen,
      Ideally you want 20-40mm of sharp sand, so maybe remove some before re-levelling it, and maybe try not to empty your pool on it in the future 😉

    I used to landscape and artificial turf was becoming popular and its nice to see the new tools you can buy or hire to make life easier when laying! Later, I had it laid in our own garden and never regretted it; looked perfect and I’m sure was a major selling factor when we sold our house. I’m designing our new garden, gets sun, but we have an area where it only gets late sun, so we are going to lay artificial turf to replace the grass, as the grass is sparse there. I’ve treated it, but doesn’t look much. Anyway, thanks very much for all the hints and tips, and generally sharing your skills! All the best.

      I would say yes, but its got 8kg of sand per square metre weighing it down.

      Hi Roddy Pryce,
      It is worth pinning the edges down, however providing that you apply enough sand, it shouldn't move at all.
      Hope this helps.
      All the best, John 😊

    Love it, great job! Any on advise on convincing the misses to get artificial lawn instead of a traditional lawn?

    • @zennazenobiabuley-padilla6222
      @zennazenobiabuley-padilla6222 3 роки тому

      NO one will have to mow it or pay for landscaping company to maintain, no weeds, no worries about it looking brown in the hot of summer, and its last for 10 years, just broom it once in a while and add some sand to make sure the grass is straight up and not laying down.

    I just roll it out over the old lawn and pin it in place. Less hassle.

  • @robertob4524
    @robertob4524 3 роки тому

    i was going to give you an "A" but you forgot something so ill give you a "C" that is not a good job. You forgot the most important thing. "nails" You need to put nails all around it. If i kick that with my foot turf will lift.

    • @BuildWithAE
      @BuildWithAE  3 роки тому

      Hey Roberto. In the video, as I mentioned, the client specifically requested that the artificial turf be not nailed down. However, in most circumstances we would do this process.
      Take care,
      John 👍🏼
