It is a nice tractor. I watched Ryan’s video with the 8370R. I should be filming an 8400R this spring. I am excited to see how it stacks up to an 8370R. The 8370R comes standard with IVT. The 8400R only has the e23 transmission.

It is amazing how much a new tractor costs. A big 4wd at 450 hp was 250K 20 years ago. A 620 hp tractor is over 500K today.

We farm with 2 IH 1066's and I rode in a 8370R on the grain cart and its a world of difference
I like the classics. The 76 1066 is one of my all time favorites. The modern power and conveniences in tractors are hard to beat.

Wow 370 horse row crop that is amazing and they are selling them so I guess there is a demand. Not a big green fan but that is one cool tractor.
The 8370R is popular in my area of Western Kentucky. Five farms I film at run them. Three different farms are featured in this video.
I have to say I'm a bit biased as I grew up riding in my granddad's case 1255xl and 1455xl ... but I do like a nice John Deere a lot.

Awesome video as always. Two quick questions. Firstly, on the subject of pto power.
Are the grain carts pto driven ground drive?. Second, at about 6.20, what's the mechanics behind the screen?

Paddypool FC No the PTO on the grain cart is for the augers while unloading. The tracks are simply for better flotation. The equipment behind the monitor is for the planter control, I believe down pressure control.
The grain cart is on a Power take off run by the tractor. The gauges you see are used to monitor NH3 application in the early spring.

so beautiful yet makes me cry as they are priced right out of the realm of any normal person's possible grasp, my grandfather homesteaded on our farm 100 years ago and we can't afford anything more than the '72 JD 4020 that we have, and have been using for over 25 years, the already huge gap of a disconnect that exists between the potential return received based on the inputs required for the producer/grower continues to multiply rapidly, farmers/ranchers feed the world but too often can’t feed themselves, and something has to change

Valentus SlimROAST I planning on going to Louisville to the farm show here in February. I was joking with a guy at work that I’m going to check out some equipment that I might be able to afford in 30 years. With no more ground than we cover, our old 806s are enough tractor to get us by. It’s hard to justify having much more tractor than that.
Look at it this way, JD can't undermine your right to repair that '72 4020 by hiding behind software license agreements.

Five farms I film at have 8370Rs. The standard IVT is a key selling point for the 8370R. The 8400R only comes with the e23 transmission so farms have stuck with the IVT 8370R. A farm I film at has a new 8400R for 2019 so you should see an 8400R video soon.
Obviously purchasing such a fine beautiful tractor like this must be weighed against overall cost, expenses etc. Most farmers cannot afford this type tractor period. At a half a million, its just not practical in terms of cost, but........
But, this tractor is a beast. The work it can accomplish versus smaller less powerful tractors make it the ideal machine to have on a medium to large farming operation. Power output is more then what one might need or require. Its technologically perfect for farmers needing precise planting because it's a steady tractor guided by that all important GPS.
Do you really need such an expensive tractor? Yes and no. It simply depends on your specific needs I suppose one could go shopping around. Even for a European manufactured tractor, like Fendt or Claas. Both of whom manufacture extremely well made, robust row crop monsters themselves. Personally, I like the Fendt 1050. Yes, it's very expensive, but in my opinion, it has certain technological characteristics not available on the Deere or Case brands.
Apples & Oranges, but farmers today must seriously invest huge amounts of capital on these machines. Which must pay for themselves by being able to multi task on the fly and often 7 days a week non stop depending on weather. This particular Deere is a gorgeous well built tractor and if I were shopping for a really powerful row crop today, this tractor would certainly be on my list of top 5 tractors.

I was looking at a John Deere 9370r, and was wondering the reason why someone would buy a 9370r articulated vs the conventional 8370r. Taking into account the weight of the 9370r, do you not get less HP to the implements? Any reasons for going with a 9370r instead?
That is a good question. There are advantages and disadvantage to both. I have watched two farms I film at swatch back and forth from 4wds to 2wds and back to 4wds in this horse power class. I will look at making a detailed video on this.

Happy new year, i have a question to you sir, at $435,000 , when will one get return on his investment, or if i may put it in a simple way, how many hectares do you need to farm to get a return on such price, or app how much corn or wheat must i harvest each year to get a return after spending such an amount on a tractor alone, i hope you get my question, thank for the answer in advance,be blessed
If you can't figure that out for yourself based on capital investment costs, crop input costs versus return on crops sold - you shouldn't be in agriculture. Your question cannot be answered with a one-size-fits-all answer. Each farm operation is different and it will depend upon cost of land, crops grown, number of hours the tractor is in service each year, etc. It's like buying anything else, you have to look at your net profit after costs to figure out if you can afford it. Can you afford a Bugatti Veyron ($1.7M dollars) on your income? Does someone else have to do the math for you so that you know whether you have the money for it or not? Probably not. Same with farming. You do the math and figure out what you can afford out of profits.
Here in Western Kentucky the big factor in having big tractors is double crop soybeans. Here is an example. Let’s say your farm is 2,000 acres. You plant 1,000 acres of corn and 1,000 acres of wheat. Because of the warm climate here wheat is cut in early June and a second crop of soybeans is planted right behind the combines as the wheat is harvested. The soybeans grow over the summer and are harvested in June. So your 2,000 farm produced 3,000 acres of grain in one season. There are tight planting and harvest windows and these big tractors help get the job done.

We have e23 transmissions in our 8r's simply because its cheaper. We get by just fine with it and demoed an 8400 with ivt and didnt like the ivt transmission.

Can you do the 8400r?
Yes. I film at five farms with 8370Rs. So far the past two years that was the only big 8R available to film in my area. This year a farm bought an 8400R so I should film it in the field this spring. I am excited to see it.
Why do some of them have black rubber rear fenders and some do not?
It an option to have extended rubber guards on the fenders.
In that one clip why is there a pump inside the tractor cab behind the 2630 display.
This tractor is used to apply NH3 in the early spring. Those are pressure gauges to monitor the NH3 application.
That's an air compressor, it's needed to maintain a desired down pressure in the airbags on the row units on the planter, depending on soil conditions.
@@bigtractorpower All NH3 gauges and plumbing are kept outside the cab because leaks could be fatal.

Loved the video. My question is how does a farm finance a $400k tractor? I’m assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that farms do business as small corporations... is there a business loan for that kind of expense? Or are there government subsidies that help cover the purchase cost?
That's list price and no government doesn't help pay for them. I guess unless the farm makes bad choices and tries to farm for show and not for profit then we call that bankruptcy.
There are business loans most farms have to take each year to buy seed and fertilizer. All the inputs are up front. Pay day is not until after harvest. Farms do make loans to by land and equipment. Some farms lease farm machines. Other have money on hand and buy the machines out right.
if you farm enough land and your profit margin is good or break even, then it's a wash, in other words you need to know what your doing and it rains at the correct times, farming is a business custom work helps pay the bills also. many farmers do custome work to supplement incomes
@@planeiron241 yes rain at the right time, we are currently in the middle of a 2 year devastating drought here, 1" of rain all of 2017 (non of which fell in summer) and 3" of rain all of 2018, pray for moisture to return this year

No it was filmed at three different farms in my area that run 8370Rs.
Seems kinda hard not to justify spending the additional 10% to get the full up kit ! It'll likely be a "wash" ( like motor vehicle air-conditioning ) plus the enhanced operator comfort reduces operator fatigue which we know leads to expensive mistakes, come trade-in time . At point 4 plus million any machine has to last a long tiime and be very productive with high up-time rates. Ten percent seems like cheap long-haul insurance .
Once you are over $400K it does not seem like going with a FPS for $403K rather than $408K for IVT makes sense.

According to the 8R sales brochure from John Deere the E23 and IVT are both available for the 8370R. There is an option chart in the brochure that spells it out.

Any idea how long before John Deere has a tractor that's a direct competitor to the new Challenger 1050?
AGCO created a new class of tractor with the 1000 series from Challenger and Fendt. I would expect John Deere and Case-New Holland will get into this high horse power row crop market.

At those prices how many acres do you have to farm to justify having one with today’s grain prices
It all depends on your region. Here in WKY double crop soybeans allow for and really demand new tractors. Here in WKY it is about running wide and fast. If you have a 2,000 farm you are cropping 3,000 acres in a year. One thousand acres of corn and one thousand acres of wheat would make up the farm through June. Then the wheat is cut and 1,000 acres of soybeans is no-tilled Wright begins the combines. The wheat fields will yield two crops in one year wheat in June and soybeans in October. The 8370R is handy in planting corn, running a grain cart, planting the soybeans, planting the wheat, tillage after soybeans and applying fertilizer ahead of corn planting.

Efficiency is key, not total acres. ROI dictates how much you make not the acres you farm, probably need 2500+ acres to justify one in central Illinois

Those are pressure gauges used to monitor anhydrous ammonia application in the early spring. It’s a high pressure gas form of nitrogen fertilizer injected in the ground.

The 1775 is high speed up to 10 mph. Any time you see a 5 in a new Deere planter it means it has high speed row units. The 1795 16/31 replaced the 1790 for example.

I guess I don’t quite follow your reply are you saying I’m too worried about not showing the operator? I normally just film around the driver because I’m trying to show the equipment outside in the technology in the inside so I was just left my camera up over their head so you can see the Machainery part of it.

Good video on a cool tractor. I do wish you had explained the model number and what the R means. I have to say though you are so weak on getting views. The videos out 3 hours and you barley get 1,000 views. Other big Ag Farm Chanbels your size get 5,000 or more views in the first hour. You gotta work on that.

I will keep the model number detail in mind for a future video. All 8 models are R series which means premium. The letters really don’t change until you get to the 6 series where you can get an E, M or R.
On the views I have no control how many people watch in the first hour or the first day or year. As far as I know there is no way I can control or increase views. Do you know a way? I have explained to you before the other ag channels are more about the people in them and people are eager to tune in and see what’s new and they gets lots of views right away. BTP is just about machines. It not as exciting or a must tune in right away. Over time BTP views get views. BTP just has a video go over 2 million views. They 2 million video has been posted a year and a half. To my knowledge no other US based ag channel has a video pass 2 million. BTP has 6 videos over 1 million views. I think the channel is getting attention. It’s just different.
Can I ask why your so worried about views?
spread the word and share the video everywhere to help out, we can all do our own little part and together it'll add up to a lot
