I bought the Iridium in June. It continues to amaze me how much it sounds like a tube amp. To me it makes for the perfect quiet stage setup for church. It seems to respond to all my pedals very well. It’s easy to dial in such great tones. That middle dial is key for tone changes. I’m still in training for the church band, but I think this setup will serve me well. Thanks for your video.
Hey Jonathan! So cool to hear that you’re getting involved with your local church team.
Really been eyeing the iridium. I think this vid sold me!
Awesome! Great choice for sure.
Have just gotten an Iridium and your videos are incredibly helpful! Thanks man!
Hey Stuart! Thanks so much for the kind words. Hope you’re enjoying it!
Bro! Tone is ridiculous. Super helpful video! Some of the best tone on UA-cam!
Thanks so much man! Means a ton 🙏🏽
Love my Iridium!! Thanks for this video I’m learning a lot from you!!
Thanks so much! You can get them at David Hislops website. Just search his name and you should be good!
Loved this video man!!
Thanks Tim!
Cool! Looking forward for the part 2
Super helpful videos thanks man!
It’s wild that I used tube amps for 10 plus years, never even wanting to try and if the modelers and then my church bought kempers and I was shocked. That led me into trying the iridium and it blew me away. I’m using it live too. The DH Pro Sonic is so close to a real pro sonic
It’s crazy how far stuff has come!
Super helpful - thanks! I'm brand new to the Iridium, and didn't know about David Hislop IRs. I just bought some and the first A/B tests a really convincing. Big improvement for the sound and feel that I like. It's going to be fun digging in deeper.
If you were going for the most pristine clean / ambient tone that does well with big reverb ... and suggestions for the DH choices to start with? Thx.
Hey David! For those kinds of tones I’d start with the twin (eminence speaker) on the 545 (3) position on the round mode. For the chime, trying either the G12 or the blue on the 545 (3) setting and see which one you’re digging.
I was wanting to see how it was hooked up to the computer for recording -thanks
Why not just set the iridium to achieve the tone you get after the RC booster? Is there something about the RC booster you can't get with just the iridium? love the tone btw!
Thanks man! I like how the RC feels, so I usually set the amps a little cleaner and then dial in the feel with that. Makes it easy to change quickly when I’m switching guitars too.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video.. I've just got the Iridium, but struggling to get the right tone. Should the Iridium go into a line level input on my USB interface, or the guitar Hi-Z input, in your opinion?
Okay, I tried both and the Hi-Z is just a bit hotter, that's all. I tried it with a Spark booster set to clean and everything 12 o'clock using the Fender amp/cab, and it actually sounds pretty good.
Awesome! I was gonna say use that guitar input. I set my interface to Instrument level instead of Line for the Iridium.
@eldaddio
Just a quick tip! Instrument level definitely feels more like how an actual amp reacts. With the line level, it gives you +10db of headroom. I switched mine to line level for live use and it works for me. I'm new to using the iridium as well, and my friends tell me that headroom is important. There is a difference though, and imo, it reacts differently. I'd say pick and choose which one you dig more and dial in your favorite setting on it and jam on!
Can you make a video talking about how you record? The tone i get out of the headphone output of the iridium is so much richer than what I can seem to get when recording direct into my DAW. I'm using a focurite solo so it is not capable of stereo (I think) and I make sure to use the mono L output. I think what I'm struggling with is setting the levels on my guitar, drive pedals, iridium and scarlett and im curious how you set it up. thanks!
I’ve had a few people ask for a video on how I record so I might have to throw that together soon! You’re definitely only going to be able to record mono with your Solo unit, but you’re like hearing the iridium in stereo with your headphones directly out (if the switch on the back is set to stereo).
As far as levels go, set the gain on your interface to noon. Then set the iridium level to 9 oclock, and play your loudest setting. Then adjust the iridium level to where the guitar is as loud as it can get without clipping.
@@jamesransom7711 so you don't use a direct box but you use an audio interface? or does it have a USB that you use? after it is in the DAW can a plugin be added? I have heard that on playback you only hear the guitar track - all of the endless rumors in forums
I have an existential doubt, can I connect it to Seymour Duncan's Powerstage 170? I can tell that it is the amp that I use in conjunction with a 2x12 cabinet. I use analog pedals
Curious if you tried the hislop kemper profiles (with hislop IR) and how they compare to iridium?
Hey Jeff! Used to use the Kemper actually but sold it right before Hislop came out with his Kemper stuff (profiles and IRS), so unfortunately I never got to play around with that combination in particular.
Through my headphones, the Iridium sounds huge and amazing at the end of my pedalboard chain. But through my interface, it fizzes out and clips like crazy. No headroom. Any tips for an interface newbie?
Should be easy to fix! What interface and DAW are you using?
@@jamesransom7711 I'm using a Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen and Garageband.
@@benjaminthancock awesome! Recording basically comes down to gaining everything correctly to start. Digital amps like the Iridium don't sound great when they clip or when they're even close to clipping. So I'd first set the gain on your interface channels to something fairly standard (in between 10 oclock and 1 oclock), with the iridium output at noon. Play clean, if it's slamming the preamp of the channel, then back the iridium volume down. Then play your loudest sound, and do the same to check the levels.
Thanks a lot for your test, sounds very good with your Veritas Guitar! Would be helpful if we could see your settings of the iridium and Pedals, it´s goona be tyring to listen to your explanation of the settings. I´m looking forward to your test of the Hislop IR´s and how you compare them to the stock IR´s. The Stock IR´s are already custom/3rd party, so not made by Strymon. But many Iridium like the Hislop IR´s a lot.
I’ll work on that second shot! Right now only have one nice camera. Thanks for the comment!
Good stuff. I’m new to IRs so i find it very overwhelming. Are these IRs available to buy anywhere. Thanks
The David Hislop IR’s are available on his website!
I love your tone, but I don't have the strymon delay and reverb. I would love to hear a breakdown of your presets to try to mimmick with other gear.
Would love to help out! What gear are you currently using? I’ve actually moved away from the two big box strymons and will be doing an updated vid here soon!
I actually use drive pedals and an iridium going into my interface and use the delays and reverbs in Logic(I don't play live, just some light home recording). I also have a few Waves delays and reverbs. Just trying to find a usable, kinda basic PDub tone.
Hey man! Did you use Greenbacks 545 (3) on the chime setting and G10 545 (3) on the round?
I mix and match a lot of the time! I usually use the G12 and G10 on the chime (if I’m only using DH IRs), and the G10 and his twin speaker with the round.
How do you run the iridium into your computer/what speakers do you use on your computer? Just bought the iridium but don't want the good sound to be muddled by my garbage desktop speakers
Hey Trey! Might do a vid on this in the future, but right now in run my Iridium into the front of my interface (Focusrite 18i8 Gen2), and then L/R out into my monitors (Yamaha HS7’s). Hope this helps!
Where can you get the DH IR’s?
On his website davidhislop.co
tone update: you mentioned you like the iridium more than kemper after 17 minutes here... wonder how ACS1 compares on sound/tone.. the dual amp feature is cool, but wondering about sound..
They both sound good, just a little different. The iridium naturally has a little more low end/low mids, and the ACS1 is a little more open/sweeter in the highs.
Great video, thanks! Around 0:40 you say you use the Iridium at home. What do you use in a live setting?
Thanks Jason! Live at church I run my hot rod on the left and the Iridium on the right. Hot rod would be a nightmare to try to run at home!
@@jamesransom7711 what you mean by hot rod on the left, coming from bigsky then right goes to iridium?
Eli NsPyrd if I’m running the iridium and my amp, I run 1/4” out of my interfacer. The left output goes to my amp, and the right goes to my iridium.
Do you remember which IRS specifically you used ?!
when is part 2 coming????
mougabo just a few hours!
@@jamesransom7711 oh wow!
How did u recorded the good quality sound with video ?
Hey Muhammad! What do you mean in particular?
With Hislop IR's, do you use 200ms or 500ms?
The 500! Strymon only takes those.
@@jamesransom7711 thanks for the reply! I’m able to use 200ms on my iridium. I haven’t spent that much time comparing them, but I don’t hear a difference.
Are those HS7/8?
HS7’s!
