A few recommendations after spending about 6 hours with the unit this weekend. First: use Pete's demo here to calibrate your board. In other words; pause the video at the first setting he shows and set your boards output so that you have the right amount of head room. I had my Boss EQ-200 Presets all set at 50% master level. My board wasn't pushing enough volume to allow for Pete's first demo'd Fender sound with breakup (the tweed sound) to achieve breakup. Be sure to closely follow the steps to create a preset located here www.strymon.net/support/iridium/ TIP: after creating each patch, back out of the ES-5 and the Iridium as if you have just booted up your board and test the previous patches with assigned presets up through the latest patch and preset. It's a ton oh work, but if you really want to see this pedal at it's full potential, I recommend using it in conjunction with a MIDI Controller. If it were more like say the Neunabor Neuron with the ability to create and store 6 presets without the need for a MIDI controller, I'd feel differently. As it is currently and at this price point, spending $400 to have this for 1 config based on however you have the knobs dialed in + just one "Fav" setting isn't a good value. However, couple this with a MIDI Controller and the value proposition changes entirely.
Thank you for the tips! Much appreciated! One question, Are you using the Strymon midi controller, which I believe is around $150, or something else, hopefully cheaper, to do the job?
....otherwise strymon should have done a visual editor (midi) as the others brands do .....or simply integrate the great iridium into their editor Nixie!!! frustrating!
I've had the Iridium for about a week now, and on boy, this thing is incredible. Even better than I had hoped. I've have lots of years spent on Fenders and Marshalls, but not so much on Vox amps. The Fender and Marshall sounds are definitely on the money. Totally sounds like a well mic'd amp/cab. I've been enjoying getting to know the Chime amp, and it's also fantastic. Swapping out cabs in the IR software is very easy and painless. I didn't particularly like the BJ cab on the Round amp, so I swapped in the 412 that usually pairs with the Punch amp, and they are awesome together. Just a tip for anyone that isn't crazy about a particular stock cab, just try one of the other 6 from the other two amps. Everything pairs well together. You'll definitely find something you like. Not even much need to buy into any 3rd party IRs unless you want to. Keeping it simple is Strymon's game and they do it perfectly here. Lots of nuance in the knobs, and takes pedals very well. I've paired it with an SP Comp, Muffuletta, Sovereign, Timmy, and Formula 5F6 dirt pedals with great success. Strymon DIG and Source Audio Ventris after the Iridium is brilliant. Can't say enough good things about the Iridium. Well done Strymon.
Great pedal! But what is better for the best stage sound? The Strymon into the mixer, you can hear your sound from the monitor. Or the Strymon direct into a monitor like a "real guitar-amp" and then with DI-Box in the mixer?
It totally depends on preference, what stage you're playing, etc. Having a dedicated FRFR speaker definitely gets you more of an 'amp' experience since you'll have a speaker behind you, but if you're going to go out of the monitors anyway, you might just want to go direct into the mixing board. No wrong way to do it, just personal preference.
Thanks Pete and Strymon! I love the Iridium and use it mostly at home as a silent practice tool or recording device. Either, straight out of the box, or, sometimes feed the output of my tube amps with a torpedo captor into the iridium (amp section disabled). So the Iridium then acts simply as a cab loader, and I can play my tube amps with headphones. Also for recording, I sometimes use the Iridium with the CAB section disabled and select IRs in my DAW. Great product, a lot of use cases.
Pete Celi the clearity and detail of your demos are always informitive and very entertaining . After your demos I find that the featured products end up on my list of gear to purchase. Your relaxed style is refreshing while being crissp.
I appreciate your demos and your playing . I began purchasing Strymon products with the Deco, that has worked out wonderfully for me . the demo has helped me decide on my next purchase. thank you
as a beginner, its really hard to dial in good tones but this video is so straight forward and easy. I love the fact he played simple chords and went through a lot of possible settings. I played along to each and everyone of them....and it all started out because I wanted to compare the Fender amp on my HX Stomp. Sorry Line 6, Iridium sounds richer but I'll keep you as an fx unit. AWESOME VIDEO - TOTAL LIFE SAVER!! MANY THANX PETE!!!!!
Honestly, no complaints and no regrets. I took a chance on this pedal when it first came out and I've been using it for almost a year now. It becomes easier to spot the more you have used it when using sounds you are used to. If it's a sound you have never heard before or can't A/B it then it is much harder to detect...or I am unable to. Even knowing that it's not 100% as real as an amp, it comes so close that it's a pure joy to use and it's my go to pedal when I can't cut loose with my amp...I use this pedal probably 95% of the time. I mostly use headphones with it and the stereo with reverb is nothing short of fantastic. Mostly I would recommend using it with the gain on zero when using other pedals. Typically I just use this pedal and headphones cuz I can get more of a great sound with this than I can with pedal setup and cranking my amp for some time. When the iridium gain is cranked it sounds great on it's own. It also does this crazy awesome "edging on feedback just as an amp would" thing which is really cool when using higher gain settings and headphones. I'm not sure how Strymon pulled that off but it's really cool and you don't have to deafen yourself or piss off the neighbours...it's actually sort of confusing because you know you are not running through a cranked amp but your ears are telling you the amp is heading for feedback but it holds and (good or bad) never gets out of control. I would say there is a small delay while this pedal is processing but so short that it's like your amp was just a little further away....and almost all settings I would not be able to detect any processing delay. Some setting seemed to be a little more processor intensive than others. I would love to see a version with an effects send and return so you didn't have to go "into the front of the amp". Otherwise I use this as a stand alone headphone amp and it's so far beyond anything you'll do with another headphone setup that I've heard or heard of. FYI I've never used any other profiler or cab sim....only because they all had complaints on so many UA-cam vids....so I bought this and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I wanted to be different was to have an effects loop but I would only sell this if they made a newer/large format version with send/return /presets etc.
Seems like an interesting pedal. One thing...Not all of us prefer Strats and that single coil sound. It would be helpful if part of the demo could feature some kind of humbucker Gibson -like guitar. U can have the best Start into the best tube amp and it would not mean much to me since I prefer a humbucker guitar like a LEs Paul or SG.

Everything you guys make is unbelievably good. The quality is unmatched in my opinion. Thank you for all your hard work. I’m returning my hx stomp. I just love the simplicity of this and how easy it is to get the sound you want.
strymon No, thank you! You’ve inspired me and thousands of musicians around the world to push their creativity. You can tell that your passion fuels your gift. Please continue pushing the limits.
When plugging this into a recording interface, like the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 in my example, should you set the 1/4" inputs on the Focusrite to Instrument or Line Level? Also, should you use unbalanced or balanced 1/4" cables to connect Iridium to the interface?
We recorded using the instrument inputs on a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre X, however Iridium can output at line level, and you can adjust Iridium's output level using its Level knob. So, either way should work for you. Iridium's outputs are unbalanced, so you can use unbalanced (TS) instrument cables.
@ghost mall No, the output level is entirely determined by what the DRIVE and LEVEL settings are set to. Let me know if that helps! Feel free to email us at support@strymon.net for more info as well.
Woah this thing sounds awesome. I really enjoy Pete’s thorough demos.im getting closer and closer to not using my tube amp much. And this is ideal for bedroom recording artists like myself.
This has been out for awhile now and has been receiving some interesting competition since though not always identical. Can we expect a V2 update of the iridium coming down the wire? Maybe with an added amp type like a mesa or soldano or jcm800🤞🏽. Gotta do it before UA or Walrus does
This is such a cool product. I'm most likely going to get one, but I really wish it had a balanced XLR output (not that I'm going to be playing live through a PA anytime soon).
@@lambdaman3228 also, if you weren’t totally clueless, you’d notice the date when I made the comment. Most people weren’t playing in public, in my area at least, when I wrote this comment.
Hi, Thanks! I've been playing guitar since I was 14 and spent a year at Musicians Institute when I moved out to California in 1988. I never go too long without picking up a guitar, and probably drive my coworkers nuts with the same riffs and chords! - Pete
Right on. I’ve grilled you for nerdy details a few times at Strymon Social events and NAMM. You always seem up for it, even in those chaotic environments! Ha. But I never heard you play much. You really do sound killer. I finally got a Strymon pedal, the Mobius, which is integrated into my touring rig. A Deco and and Iridium are probably not far off...
You can use this for direct recording or to a PA/mixer. It is not really recommended to be placed in front of an amplifier, but if you disable the IR Cab, you can plug this into the power amp/Effects Return of an amplifier to use as the preamp for your amplifier.
Heard several reviewers say when playing live you can send the signal straight from the pedal to front of house (into the mixer) but in your video it goes via a radial direct box. May I ask what is required to use it in a live context and perhaps also explain why (since I'm a simple gigging tube amp kind of guy with very limited technical knowledge :-).
It varies depending on your set up. If you are running directly into an interface or mixer with dedicated instrument level inputs meant for guitar or bass or other unbalanced signal sources, you probably don't. If you are in a live situation using mixers or boards that are expecting a balanced signal, or you are experiencing ground loops, a DI box might be something worth looking at. www.strymon.net/faq/do-i-need-to-use-a-di-with-iridium/ If you have any more questions feel free to email support@strymon.net! :)
Best believe as soon as my Blackstar modeling head sells I'll be picking one of these up. This is literally like every guitar amp I've ever considered rolled into a pedal. Any suggestions for one of your overdrives that will get along well as a boost running into this? I'm thinking of smooth yet high gain modern metal tones.
You can get great overdriven to heavy sounds when pairing Iridium with either Sunset or Riverside depending on what you are looking for. You should check out the videos we have for both.
I'm looking at the Strymon Iridium Amp & IR Cab Pedal. I currently play solo acoustic and vocals into a DJ type Yamaha Power Amp/Mixer Combo which then powers 2 Bose 402 Speakers. I'd really like to ad back to my set a few Santana tunes and maybe some SRV and Satriani. Stuff like that with a few backing tracks. I gave up doing that a while ago b/c I just wanted to lighten my equipment load. The Strymon Iridium seems like the cure. So far I've only seen demos where the Iridium is going to a non powered speaker cabinet or floor wedge or to the front of house system or headphones etc. My question: Will the Iridium work the same way to suit my needs going to a POWERED MIXER or is it not designed to work that way? Thank you
Hello there! We don't have a specific brand or model we recommend as it really depends on what features you are looking for out of a DI box. We've used active and passive stereo and mono DI boxes from different brands, and they all work well really.
I can run this on nine volt center negative and go straight into my speaker cabinet? No head needed? Would the volume be high enough without going though a mixer or powered speaker?
No, Iridium does not have any power amp properties and will not power a passive set of speakers. You'll still need a power amp between Iridium and your passive speakers.
Hey Jason! Not having an effects loop was a deliberate design decision in order to provide the existing feature set in a small form factor. If you want to have effects post Iridiums preamp section, you can place them after Iridium and then go out from there into your interface, mixer, etc. :)
Logic seems to put this at the end of the signal chain (pedals), but wouldn't you loose the magical amp- cord- guitar relationships. To maintain this should or could the pedal be put in front of your pedals?
We suggest treating it like a real amp - effects such as overdrives, compressors, etc. can go before Iridium, and you can place time-based effects like reverb and delay after it :)
@@majchx5352 It depends on if the multi effects has an effects loop you can use to place external pedals in between effects, as well as what effects you are using the multi effects for in the first place - for example, if using it just for modulation, delay, and reverb, you can just place Iridium before the multi effects.
Iridium can only play one Amp selection and one Cab selection at a time. However, using our Strymon Impulse Manager software (available as a free download from our website) you could load a mono cabinet IR into the left slot and another mono cabinet IR into the right slot.
@@strymon Perfecttttt. Y'all released this just at the right time. I was about to buy an HX Stomp just for the amp modeling, but this, in my opinion, sounds much better and it has exactly what I need and nothing more.

very good demo. The idea of emulate just 3 amps is great, because you have a large range of tones and it is very easy to set them up. I hate to have hundreds of model amps with a few multifunction knobs. Just a question: what is the maximum unbalanced cable lenght to connect IRIDIUM to a mixer?
For this pedal to work in stereo, it must be set to mono (if time based affects are after the Iridium). If time based affects are before the iridium, a 1/4 inch TRS Stereo to Dual 1/4 inch TS Mono Insert Cable Y-Splitter Stereo Breakout Cable Patch Cord will need to be purchased (12 bucks). Run your stereo pedal preceding the Iridium into the mono in, set the switch to stereo and then utilize the stereo outs to go to front of house (FOH).

The perfect pedal for the bedroom producer, gotta have it ✨🍭
Pete Celi is like the Leo Fender of digital modeling and effect pedals. These pedals sound incredibly accurate.
Wow, Punch with Drive dialed back + Cab A is a beautiful clean tone!
Thank you so much! What a wonderful post to read. I have passed along to the team :)
I sold my $4000 tube amp for Iridium and save the rest. Best decision i have ever made.
Thankx!
I need this in my life. This will pair nicely with my Riverside.
I finally got my Strymon Iridium, It sounds amazing, I can record a great guitar tone now. Thanks Strymon great job👍
So awesome to hear. Thank you! Please share if you post any songs :)
Ordered mine yesterday looking forward to working with it.
Pete Celi the clearity and detail of your demos are always informitive and very entertaining . After your demos I find that the featured products end up on my list of gear to purchase.
Your relaxed style is refreshing while being crissp.
Thank you!
I appreciate your demos and your playing .
I began purchasing Strymon products with the Deco, that has worked out wonderfully for me
. the demo has helped me decide on my next purchase. thank you
Thank you so much :)
What a perfect video. Demoing and explaining all perfect. As usual so wise Pete!
This guy would be such a good teacher !
Amazing. We have all heard tons of ir's and amp models. After all I am again impressed with strymon quality. It sounds very round and ballanced.
as a beginner, its really hard to dial in good tones but this video is so straight forward and easy.
I took a chance on this pedal
when it first came out and I've been using it for almost a year now. It
becomes easier to spot the more you have used it when using sounds you
are used to. If it's a sound you have never heard before or can't A/B
it then it is much harder to detect...or I am unable to. Even knowing
that it's not 100% as real as an amp, it comes so close that it's a pure
joy to use and it's my go to pedal when I can't cut loose with my
amp...I use this pedal probably 95% of the time. I mostly use
headphones with it and the stereo with reverb is nothing short of fantastic. Mostly I
would recommend using it with the gain on zero when using other pedals. Typically I just use this pedal and headphones cuz I can get more of a great sound with this than I can with pedal setup and cranking my amp for some time.
When the iridium gain is cranked it sounds great on it's own. It also does
this crazy awesome "edging on feedback just as an amp would" thing which is really cool when
using higher gain settings and headphones. I'm not sure how Strymon
pulled that off but it's really cool and you don't have to deafen
yourself or piss off the neighbours...it's actually sort of confusing because you know you are not running through a cranked amp but your ears are telling you the amp is heading for feedback but it holds and (good or bad) never gets out of control.
I would say there is a small delay while this pedal is processing but so short that it's like your amp was
just a little further away....and almost all settings I would not be able to
detect any processing delay. Some setting seemed to be a little more
processor intensive than others. I would love to see a version with an
effects send and return so you didn't have to go "into the front of the
amp". Otherwise I use this as a stand alone headphone amp and it's so
far beyond anything you'll do with another headphone setup that I've
heard or heard of. FYI I've never used any other profiler or cab
sim....only because they all had complaints on so many UA-cam
vids....so I bought this and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I
wanted to be different was to have an effects loop but I would only sell
this if they made a newer/large format version with send/return
/presets etc.
Thanks for sharing this great review and for the feedback! Appreciate it :)
@@strymon Thank you all for making ass-kicking pedals. Cheers.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will send this to our Video person for consideration for the next video!

Just purchased and plugged in my new Iridium pedal, straight into a Focusrite Scarlett Solo into PC.
Put some pedals.. OCD, Fulltone Mas Malo and a HOOF FUZZ.Gibson Les Paul.
Instant Love! Pure, rich tones throughout and so versatile with the built in cabs.
I use a Kemper for recording normally and this sounds just as good.Well done Stryman.
You really got me.
I already have lots of your devices and a MESA Mark V and STILL I want this. Very nicely done.
Everything you guys make is unbelievably good. The quality is unmatched in my opinion. Thank you for all your hard work. I’m returning my hx stomp. I just love the simplicity of this and how easy it is to get the sound you want.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Appreciate it so much :)
strymon No, thank you! You’ve inspired me and thousands of musicians around the world to push their creativity. You can tell that your passion fuels your gift. Please continue pushing the limits.
@@Mdogbrown We absolutely will and it helps fuel us to hear this. Thank you!
Can't wait! I get mine on Monday! My back thanks you!
This pedal is the best pedal I've ever had.
I've had this for a year and a half now and I love it.
More floating point witchcraft from Strymon. Well done guys.
I’m
Very happy for Strymon & yes, I want a Iridium.
But I GOTTA say,
‘Damage Control’ rocked.
Question... where would you use a delay pedal in the chain? After or before ?
We'd recommend after, if you are using Iridium for any overdriven tones :)
The cleans sound great. The drive has that fizzy vst plugin sound to my headphones.
Woah this thing sounds awesome. I really enjoy Pete’s thorough demos.im getting closer and closer to not using my tube amp much. And this is ideal for bedroom recording artists like myself.
Fender, VOX, and Marshall. Covering all ground. Interested to hear how the drive tones sustain, which is the gap usually found in modeling high gain.
So you wish it had a feature you won't be using. Amazing contribution to the discussion.
@@lambdaman3228 soon, I didn’t say never. Plus, I prefer it for recording.
@@lambdaman3228 also, if you weren’t totally clueless, you’d notice the date when I made the comment. Most people weren’t playing in public, in my area at least, when I wrote this comment.
Had this for a few weeks now and used it in a large hall live, totally delighted! Ok not cheap, but worth every penny.
Ordered today. The Deco blew me away so I have great hopes for the Iridium!
This man does superb demos!
What a killer product. And Pete’s guitar playing is excellent throughout. What’s your story as a player Pete?
And Volante. Dammit.
@@JB_Eckl Thanks for joining us at the Socials and NAMM. We all love to get nerdy. Please keep visiting us :)
Everywhere you look nowadays it's a line of Strymon pedals with a HX Stomp on the end - I guess this might change that for a lot of people!
Geniuses... that’s what you all are. Wonderful job. Picking one up ASAP
Can this only be used as a direct in box or can it be used in front of an actual amp?
You can use this for direct recording or to a PA/mixer. It is not really recommended to be placed in front of an amplifier, but if you disable the IR Cab, you can plug this into the power amp/Effects Return of an amplifier to use as the preamp for your amplifier.
@@strymon Thank you sir ,,,I was just about to ask the same question and I will probably get this for sure !!!

@@strymon Got it! Thanks - I'm definitely gonna get this pedal!
You're killing my wallet, Strymon! ❤
sounds great, stereo in/outs are great, but why no headphone out for silent practice?
Iridium does have a headphone jack you can use for silent monitoring through headphones :)
@@strymon perfect.
Incredible. Will it deal well with EQ's running into it? (Pedal wise)
Yes, you can use Iridium in your chain as you would an amplifier using pedals before or after it in the signal chain.
Wow - Breakin' Bad dude totally knows his amps. Great demo!
Thank you
Yes, you can absolutely run Iridium into a powered mixer :)
@@strymon Thank you
The tone is 99.8% pure!
Dammit strymon, you keep knocking it out of the park every time!
Heisenberg you’ve done it again!
This is so cool! Sounds amazing! What a great direct solution!
Dangerously convincing sounding.
is there a recommended di box if you want to use it live? it would be cool if it had xlr out built in.
Hello there! We don't have a specific brand or model we recommend as it really depends on what features you are looking for out of a DI box. We've used active and passive stereo and mono DI boxes from different brands, and they all work well really.
Could you have this pedal go out to front of house etc. and use the phones at the same time like an in-ears?
I love the tone! This is my amp now.. but why not adding effect loop????? The boss ir2 did it
Looking for a frfr speaker for home use with Iridium. Anybody have any recommendations???
I can run this on nine volt center negative and go straight into my speaker cabinet? No head needed? Would the volume be high enough without going though a mixer or powered speaker?
No, Iridium does not have any power amp properties and will not power a passive set of speakers. You'll still need a power amp between Iridium and your passive speakers.
Great, in-depth demo. Thanks, Pete.
a fantastic video! I have a doubt. Would it be possible to make intentional couplings with Iridium? Thank you.
Hello! Not sure what you are describing here. If you have any more questions please email support@strymon.net. Thanks!
Does anyone know how many IRs can be saved in the pedal (midi presets) through Strymon software? Awesome product! Cheers
You can save 3 IR's (2 mono files or 1 stereo file) per Amp for a total of 9 IRs loaded onto the pedal using the Strymon Impulse Manager software.
Aweomse pedal! Why did you guys decide to not go with an effects loop built into the pedal?
BD GUITARS SERVICE would you just put reverb and delay after it in the signal chain and it will have the same effect as in the effect loop of an amp?
Hey Jason! Not having an effects loop was a deliberate design decision in order to provide the existing feature set in a small form factor. If you want to have effects post Iridiums preamp section, you can place them after Iridium and then go out from there into your interface, mixer, etc. :)
strymon wonderful! Thank you for the reply!
Very informative
Fantastic tones. I think I’m SOLD! Wow!
@@strymon that will work only with single pedals. not with a multi-fx.if im not wrong
@@majchx5352 It depends on if the multi effects has an effects loop you can use to place external pedals in between effects, as well as what effects you are using the multi effects for in the first place - for example, if using it just for modulation, delay, and reverb, you can just place Iridium before the multi effects.
Would like to know what the iridium was connected to for the audio demo here, this can alter the sound radically.
Waited for all the fuss to die down and ordered mine today :) Can't wait......Great presentation Pete, very intense in a relaxed kinda way :)
Is it possible to run one amp/cab out of the L output and a different amp/cab out the R output?
Iridium can only play one Amp selection and one Cab selection at a time. However, using our Strymon Impulse Manager software (available as a free download from our website) you could load a mono cabinet IR into the left slot and another mono cabinet IR into the right slot.
@@strymon Perfecttttt. Y'all released this just at the right time. I was about to buy an HX Stomp just for the amp modeling, but this, in my opinion, sounds much better and it has exactly what I need and nothing more.
@@strymonMerci Strymon
very good demo. The idea of emulate just 3 amps is great, because you have a large range of tones and it is very easy to set them up. I hate to have hundreds of model amps with a few
multifunction knobs. Just a question: what is the maximum unbalanced cable lenght to connect IRIDIUM to a mixer?
Iridium is buffered, so it can drive pretty long cable runs. There really shouldn't be any issues with running longer cables to your mixer.
