Very very rarely do I comment on youtube. But this has worked wonders on the range today. Felt much more controlled and somehow powerful at the same time. Will definitely be trying it out in the midweek comp this week. Thankyou.
I have changed my golf swing after watching the video and yes, it totally changed my driving game. The body turn is on its way from the start and has totally stopped my out to in path. Fair play to you, love it. Keep the videos coming, well explained and backed up.
This looks a simple but great tip to take to the range and I'm going to try it this afternoon. From the comments it seems like a lot of people are having excellent results. Thanks for the advice.
Been using the Eureka swing for a couple of months now and ball striking has improved massively!! Went out for nine last night and tried this driver tip and it was incredible!!!
After an awful round driving the ball, I tried this on #18 after recalling the video where you first mentioned this. Best drive of the day, looking forward to getting to the range to practice this a little more.
Tried this on the range over the weekend with promising results. Took it out on the course, this morning and shot my best round of the summer. 12/3 worked great with my driver. 6/1.5 worked with my hybrid off the tee. Need to experiment a bit more with my 3-wood. Very excited about this address!
Found this video at 2pm. Went to the driving range to practice this tip at 3pm. Played twilight at 5pm and didn’t miss a fairway off the tee. I had totally given up on my driver. Distance increased and was hitting a baby draw
Coiling off the inside of the back foot is key for my driver. I'm using the same concept for my irons pointing rear toe forward to create the coil. Thanks SJ
Just came back from a practice session using this tip. Took a little bit of time getting us to not having the club butted up to the ball however after a dozen shots, started to Absolutely nail my 3 wood using a shortened "back and in" technique. This also works wonders for long irons eg, 1 iron which also had a laser guided flight. DID NOT hit one single hook which is a bonus , just need to work on the occasional slice which crept in. Again thanks again Steve you are the man!!!
One of the first golf lessons I ever got was with Bertha Ogrin (Dave Ogrin, PGA Tour player’s mother). She said, ☝🏻“Take the club back as low to the ground as you can for the first FOOT”! … same thing, isn’t it? 🤔 I can still remember it … and it was almost 50 years ago
nice. tried this at the range yesterday, about 90% down the middle. Hope I can move it to the next round! I also tried moving one ball forward and one ball backwards and produced the predicted draw and fade. Nice!
Thanks Steve … the clarification definitely helped for me - as had tried after initial clip and was just moving hands … my bad … tried the real drill and produced consistent long drives with a baby fade … 👍
Since seeing the original video I implemented that and have never driven the ball better. I've dropped more than 5 strokes because now my second shot is in play and not hitting putt putt the woods or dropping from a lost ball. Secondary benefit is I've saved at least a dozen+ balls.
Tried this last week and right from my first drive it was amazing. Hey Steve is it because an open stance goes right and the in to out swing goes left put them together and it goes straight? Seems like it . Thanks
I tried it about a month ago at the range and it worked great. Then i tried it on the course, first hole great then i lost it. (Often happens), i saw the video again and decided to try it again. So, this morning i went to the range and although the tee was shorter than i would have liked, I hit it well. Straight and high. It is pretty amazing.
What an excellent tip. Been working on my grip, wrist angles and club head path for my driver recently and I'm going to incorporate this into the drill.
I tried this and I was in the trees a few times !! Just looking at the video again I realised my mistake ! I was moving my arms only no body movement ! Will watch video a few times again before retrying !!
F me but I barely understood what I was actually supposed to do but for fun at the range I tried this. All kinds of terrible thoughts went through my mind before I swung. Never did I think I’d launch straight down the middle-over and over. Decided to play 18 using driver for every par 4 and 5. Never lost a ball, no penalties off the tee, hit fairways or light ruff all day. I got paired with a young guy playing his 7th round who couldn’t get off the tee. Showed him on 17 this tip, he hit a low runner but was in play. On 18 he ripped it high, down the middle, 240. Makes no sense but it works.
This has helped me to hit my driver more consistent but I still hit the ball low on the face of my driver any hints? Also I get the 12 inches back from the ball but how to get the 3 inches behind. Do you draw your arms back it looked like you slightly stood up to draw your arms back.
It works! When I get it right I'm getting twenty, twenty-five more yards on average. I need to brush up on the details, tho, so I'm back. Aha! I wasn't backing up three... My driver is 8.5 and flies it far down fairway now.
I started addressing my ball 6 to 8 inches behind my ball. Almost exactly what he is doing without 3 inches in. Stopped my duck hook. Thank you for getting rid of my duck hook.i almost quit golfing
Unbelievable... I've been playing a 3 wood off the tee cos my driver was all over the place.. I saw this video last week and tried this tip and no joking it's changed everything.. Drove my 1st par 4 , 340 yard hole to within 50 yards of the green.. Longest drive I've ever hit.. Have you tried this with irons???
Yes, woods, hybrids and down to S/W , just incremental reductions in distance behind the ball ie sand wedge only 3 or 4 inches. I think the principle is that many swing faults are initiated very early in the backswing - this eliminates some and ensures you go back on plane. As Steve says though it must be shoulders that make this adjustment, not just moving the arms.
It takes quite a bit of getting used to. My question is at what point do you flatten the lead wrist. I can see it's flat for most of the backswing - but doesn't appear to be at address. Are you conscious of it or make any deliberate movement?
To take this out on the golf course. Simply wrap some tape on your driver shaft 12 inchs (30cm) back from where the shaft joins the ferrule. To measure 3 inches back most modern drives it is about 3 inches from centre of driver to toe.

This REALLY WORKS. I've enjoyed it. It's changed my driving hopefully FOREVER!!
You have definately made it clear!!!!. One of your best videos to date. Very well done Mr Johnston.
Tried this today at the range and it really works, high draws. Only 8in back though, just have to remember to hit to right field
I went from a massive 180 yard slice to an average of 275 with a slight fade. Thank you so much for making golf fun again
Tried this last weekend at the range. One of the best driver tips I’ve seen and used from a UA-cam University.
Great tips! I’m now confident using my driver!
This looks a simple but great tip to take to the range and I'm going to try it this afternoon. From the comments it seems like a lot of people are having excellent results. Thanks for the advice.
I was hitting straight but my drives have taken a dive. Thanks for the explanation about the form dip. I’ve been overthinking it. 😵💫

Hi Steve. I am wondering if you have been experimenting hitting controlled fades and draws using this technique?
I'm glad you made this follow-up video because I couldn't explain why it worked. Now I do, thank you

Nick Faldo autographed my Wilson 10inch pro bag in 1990. Moe Norman is a freak of nature.
Moe once tried to bet Dave Pelz $500 that he'd hit the 250 post on the driving range before Dave could make a 20 foot putt. Dave didn't bet him
thanks Steve for not chucking it your golf gold 👍
Tried this last week and right from my first drive it was amazing. Hey Steve is it because an open stance goes right and the in to out swing goes left put them together and it goes straight? Seems like it . Thanks

Nice balance and stability.

It's a bit intimidating because there's so much space between the club and the ball. I thot 'how can this possibly work?' You have to trust it.
@@holyworrier That's the real trick though isn't it? Trust. Trust the club instead of trying to force it.

Helps with getting a full turn and tempo.
Not sure how this works yet, but it worked for me on the range today. Hope it works for me on the course.
This is an epic tip. Gets some comments on the course.
So , do you consciously drag the head i three inches in, or does the club go naturally three inches in?
Damn! It worked. Wow thanks! 😊
can you use same strategy for 3, 5 woods
Greetings from Canada. Does this technique work for fairway woods, hybrids and irons? 🇨🇦
Good question.
You don't tee up in those cases. Wouldn't work, seems to me.
Yes, woods, hybrids and down to S/W , just incremental reductions in distance behind the ball ie sand wedge only 3 or 4 inches. Steve are you looking at the ball at address or the club or combo of the both etc ?
God I’m just getting used to eureka swing that’s sorted out my slice, don’t think I can chance this until end of season ?
Can you do this with a high handicapper so we can see it working .for a non pro

Works 100%
I start my drive with my driverhead about 5 inches behind the ball, it reminds me to take the club inside.
Does this work with irons
I am hitting off in 1 hour, I might try :)
I'm going to try it with irons too. I think you're on to something bro
How about woods and irons?

Maybe your best video. Don't know people watch and don't like, duh?
It forces you to start the swing with the body,
12 inches back . 3 inches in ? Don’t know bout my golf but helped my love life . Has somebody already mentioned this ? Dr Love Johnson .

If the principle is sound shouldn’t it work with all clubs. I believe Mo did it w all clubs.
How, since you can't tee up after your ball off the tee...?
That’s what she said 😛

Swing seems very flat😬

Tried at the range today, 15 of 20 pretty damn good. Trying at the course tomorrow
Your actual backswing when you hit the ball is more upright than your practice backswing
Cudnt do 12 and 3.....do 8 and 2
