Great video, I tried to keep things simple as I often tend to ramble into micro cues etc etc, there is a little bit more to be said perhaps for the 'high-chest' -> 'shoulder' phase, but perhaps that could be another video! Amazing stuff as always Cody. (I just hope the subtitles aren't too cruel to me. 😆🏴🪨🙏)
That would be awesome! I've always found that final bit the most difficult, I'd love to do a deep dive on shouldering heavy things! Hahah we'll see, personally I love the accent 😁 thanks again for the video!!
You're awesome Andy!!
I've been patiently waiting for this since you mentioned a few weeks ago that you'd do a deep dive on the one motion shoulder, this is fantastic info.
Well done to Andy for taking part and giving a very clear set of instructions. And what a beast he is, the man has to be pound for pound one of the strongest men on the planet.
Thanks for making this collab happen Cody, keep up the good work 💪
Glad it was of some use David, really appreciate the feedback! 🙏
Hey glad you liked the video!! And I think you're right, it's been a true honor having him on the channel!
Keep up the good work men 💪
Love the collab! Andys a beast. No lie, your channel got me lifting a decent sized stone out in my field recently and its been eye opening. Definitely gonna play with some one motions this week. Cheers dude
Hey glad you liked it! I agree, what a phenomenal lifter. and THAT'S SO COOL!! Good luck with it, that's my favorite thing to hear!
Another great video
Thank you! Really glad to have Andy in this one!
Dunno how I've missed this golden nugget of a video!!! huge thanks to you both!!!
we need MORE of this, someone needs to continue picking the brains of that insanely impressive lifting-machine that is Andy😅 we NEED MORE INSIGHT!!!😅
And honestly, his lifts are perhaps the most impressive lifting that has come along in a looong time, bringing back true power of a by-gone era!
kind regards from the now quite icy-cold snowy sweden /peter
Hey glad to have you here!! I agree Andy is on a totally different level, I'd love to have him back here for another vid. Actually been meaning to ask him about an idea I have, so hopefully there will be more!
Having done strength training in different forms for many years, I can agree that sandbag/stone to shoulder is the biggest challenge I've felt. I think my problem is holding it too long on the chest, bouncing it upwards. I think I need to be more explosive with the initial squat phase.
It really is something else!! I had the same problem, once I started doing everything from the lap to the shoulder in one breath it really forced me to be quick about it. I know that method isn't for everyone though, but it really helped me :)
good video, I am really fascinated by the sandbag training.
Thank you! I think it's a lot of fun, makes you really strong too!
Absolutely agree. Andy Crawford, from what I have seen is possibly already the best stone lifter in the world and he just gets better every week it seems. In ancient times he would have been the top Chieftain in Scotland.
Going to have this stuff a go too. I never considered the rowing motion as important to the sandbag. Now, on the keg I found I had to row it up. I think it would be a good tool for practicing this motion also. Thanks for the great info and getting Andy to share some secrets! Hope Andy starts doing more instructional stuff for us mortals!
I agree, no one is doing what he is! I was honored to have Andy in a video. I've asked him a few questions on very specific things about different parts of lifting stones/sandbags, and he always has exactly the answer I needed. If he made instructional vids I might actually take notes haha. For me at least that row movement seemed so counterintuitive at first, I've also done so many cheat rows over the years it took some real effort to maintain that horizontal angle. Really paid off though! I'd love to get my hands on a keg, really cool to see you lift the one you have
@@thestonecircle I am going to get some practice in on it Wednesday after heavy squats. I may try both sandbag and keg.
I wonder if someone could get some of this work in with a bearhug hold and simply doing forward bends and driving the hips through to stand up?
@Sambalifter I like the way you think!! I was focusing on the row part, but really it's standing up once it's already rowed that's most difficult, seems like that would have to help!
@@thestonecircle I found the row easy, but when I start to transition to the standing position is when I seem to lose the squeeze on the bag and it drops on me a bit. Just have to get stronger I reckon!
@Sambalifter I saw your insta vid, I'm definitely giving that a go!! I think when I would lose that grip it always led to me using my arms too much, seems like a great way to work on that
Awesomeee lots of good info, I never really paid attention to this but diffinitely need to try it haha Andy here world class 👏👏👏 greattt video and it's good to see you got the skill down too constantly leveling up let's get goooo!!
Hey glad you liked it man! With your insane explosive power I think you'll find the movement comes pretty naturally!
@@thestonecirclemaybe will have to try one day lol
Awesome video! I'll have to rewatch this many times, especially after I will have assembled my own sandbag-like item, which I intend to do.
Thank you! That's so awesome I'm excited to see you lifting a sandbag! Fingers crossed for some creative sandbag training hacks 😁
@@thestonecircle Quick update: Seven months and three DIY awkward objects later I am completely hooked on that type of training. And I also do want to learn the one-motion lift.
@@creativetraininghacks I'm so glad you are!! Can't believe it's been 7 months. 😮
@@thestonecircle Well, my first 135lbs cat litter bag didn't turn into a 220lbs sandbag over night 😄
@@creativetraininghacks haha true
One motion is crazy. And I thought just shouldering it was the peak. Now that I'm starting to discover the techniques behind properly lifting stones I feel like I will be able to lift them much more effectively with enough practice.
Heck yeah, the one motion is so cool!
👍👍
I watch his videos to
Awesome!! What an incredible lifter
Thats cool and all. But imma stick with sandbags.. cause if that rock lands on your foot. Boy oh boy.
Haha definitely a risk involved, at least sandbags are still awesome!
got the 150 lb bag first try after seeing this video.
Heyy hell yes!! Bet it felt great, nothing else like it!
would this principle work with vertical sandbag
In my experience at least the vertical one motion lift is a bit more difficult, but the same idea applies. I actually managed to skip the lap phase with that method first, but I haven't tried it in a while, I'm gonna have to give it another go!
Is sandbag to shoulder bad for spine or something, how to affoid getting faster arthritis or is there no higher risk ? I hope so
It's possible. It's made my back feel stronger but I can't say I know the long term effects for sure. There are plenty of stone lifters from across the world who have been doing this stuff their whole lives without injury though. Time will tell!
also what do you think of this cross body type of shoulder, would this have some benefits with longer bags?

Oh yeah definitely! That's usually my preferred method for a traditional shoulder attempt. That was how I first managed to shoulder the sandbag I have!
