Take into consideration that CAnada is 10x less populated than USA...so take into perspective that the 27 medals of Canada is the equivalent that USA got 270 medals...but they got 126!!! Canada 27 medals is SPECTACULAR!

Tyler's resident troll posted a comment on another video about how badly Canada did compared to the US (guaranteed she'll be here saying exactly that). I reminded her of the population difference and made the comparison in two different ways. Like you, I first said that the US should have won 270, so failed miserably. I then said that Canada should have only won 12 or 13, so succeeded spectacularly.

The best part about Summer Mcintosh ... she's only 17. She's already the world record holder in the 400m individual medley, went nearly 3 seconds slower than her world record, and still won by 6 seconds. She's also shown potential in both the 200m freestyle (led off the relay at last year's World Championships with a time that would have won individual gold), and the 800m freestyle (earlier this year, she became the first person ever to beat Katie Ledecky in the event on any level since 2011).

I can see Summer as she matures, mid 20's if she wants to, continue stretching out her distances, it is obvious she needs and wants intense input, and it would give her something to strive for. Hopefully she can get a large sponsorship deal, if she does not have one already, which she wholeheartedly deserves so she doesn't have to leave the sport like so many have to. It is not often, "a natural" comes around.

Sorry America, we in Canada, on top of 22 and 1/2 hours a day for the entire Olympics on Over the Air channel CBC, we also have the CBC streaming service GEM having almost every event, and every final on the Olympic Calendar there, and the CBC also showed most events either partially or the Finals on UA-cam up here. So if you missed anything try to find GEM. Now Canadian events were shown most importantly, but as in the Past, Tournament Games in Team sports, etc., for most countries were shown during the overnight sessions, so we fired up our DVR's and had at it. Nothing like Team Pairs Badminton, European Handball , Table Tennis etc. to wile away the 11pm to-3:30am time slots with, for as you said every 4 years we all love watching the "non normalized" North American sports. Then from 4am on (10am in Paris) on back to the Live coverage. Fast forward through the commercials and hope your DVR doesn't get tired...

So if you want a more complete coverage of all sports in any Olympic broadcast, you are better off watching CBC coverage as compared to ESPN, TSN or whatever other North American broadcasters, not sure about the BBC coverage or ABC (Australian) or Deutsche Welle broadcasting.

Even tho I know that Raygun wasn’t a good example of break dancing the others were phenomenal! I admit I was a bit skeptical when I heard it was first being introduced in the olympics but I grew to like the idea. Just think, it’s pretty much like gymnastics, it has elements of rhythmic, pommel horse and floor in there. So for those still criticizing, think on that. Also, it’s actually harder than it looks, as a kid I tried to do a few moves but could not do it, even as I took gymnastics. It’s not something everyone can do.

  • @scotthodgins7975
    @scotthodgins7975 25 днів тому +11

I feel that I must add this. The US may not see some of these events in between Olympics, however Canada DOES get to see at least some of these events between Olympics simply because of CBC sports coverage. I know I have seen several of these 'outlier' sports in CBC's "Wild World of Sports" back in the day. Also with the Commonwealth Games, and several of the other global sports gatherings that occur between Olympics, the CBC and to a lesser extent TSN cover many of these sporting events.
It is true though that during the Olympics, several of these sports get extended coverage, but even local sporting events are covered. Like the Indigenous games have been covered both by CBC and TSN.

Olympics how U.S. athletes differ from Canadian athletes. This is only my personal opinion. It seems to me if an American doesn't win gold he/she/they consider themselves a loser, silver and bronze don't mean the same to Americans. Canadians are often super excited to get to the podium, whether it be bronze, silver or gold. Noah Lyles is an example of a trash talking, arrogant competitor. At the 2024 worlds he trashed the Canadian relay team. Guess what the Canadians won gold. Good on them. Obviously all athletes competing want to do well but at the end of the day doing your best should be what it's all about. I am sure funding will me mentioned in the comments and the lack of it compared to the U.S. where they hand out scholarships like candy with stars like Lyles flaunting their wealth with cars and luxury items.

I'm glad Tyler recognized that Canada did well in the Olympics. We had only a small number of athletes that qualified in the handful of sports we were in. The US seems to play the numbers game and send the maximum amount of athletes permitted per sport. I don't like that the Olympics are not for amateur athletes like it was ages ago. The US had a stacked NBA team, most other countries had a sprinkling of NBA players or none at all. For those who train their butts off, don't get to go, but the ones who make millions as their professional job get to go... Make millions and get a gold medal sounds completely unfair for those that spend their time and hard earned money for the sport they love.

No idea why, but my best guess is that it started as a drunken dare then became a regular thing for laughs and ego. Not sure if the tradition continues today, but it carried on for some time in the 90's at least.

    Rugby in Canada from wikipedia
Rugby football began to be played in Canada in the 1860s, and many of the first Canadian football teams played under the auspices of the Canadian Rugby Football Union (CRFU), founded in June 1880 then reorganized in February 1884.[6] The CRFU was reorganized as the Canadian Rugby Union (CRU) in 1891, and served as an umbrella organization for several provincial and regional unions. The Grey Cup was donated by Governor General the Earl Grey in 1909 to the team winning the "Senior Amateur Football Championship of Canada". By that time, the sport as played in Canada had diverged markedly from its rugby origins with the introduction of the Burnside rules, and started to become more similar to the American game.
    They Became the CFL
Tigers and wildcats merged to become Ti-Cats Oskee Wee Wee
The first organized football club in Canada was the Hamilton Foot Ball Club, a predecessor of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, in 1869. This was followed by the formation of the Montreal Foot Ball Club in 1872, the Toronto Argonaut Football Club in 1873 and the Ottawa Football Club (the future Ottawa Rough Riders) in 1876.
    Winnipeg Rugby Football Bluebombers
The Roughriders were founded in 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club. (Saskatchewan Roughriders)

Rugby is big in our Atlantic Provines. I went to University in New Brunswick and it was pretty popular there, although football and hockey are still more so. It makes sense we are good at swimming and canoeing/rowing as we have two oceans, the great lakes, and many other lakes and rivers. We have lots of public swimming pools and swimming lessons for kids are popular here because we have so many waterways and parents don't want their kids drowning. Track and field events also make sense as our high schools push track events in gym class and all have track teams as well.

The problem with truly artistic sports is that there needs to be pretty strict guidelines for scoring purposes. Gymnastics for example has a book of all the possible skills, and for some events are given a checklist that they have to hit. I don't know what they had for the break dancing, but if they didn't set up good parameters beforehand then it was doomed to fail especially when someone comes in making a mockery of it under the guise of creative interpretation

If wishes were horses, we could eat horse meat every day. Having said that, if the traditional events, that Canada has become known for, had held for in these games, the Canadian medal count would have been closer to 35. The fact that a new high total was reached was due to some unexpected performances in beach volleyball, mens 400 relay, wrestling, and rowing, as well as the double gold in hammer throw. The disappointing results were in the pool, on the soccer pitch, basketball court, in the boxing ring and cycling.
