Edmontonian here. Lots was watched out of context. For example, the legislature Grounds are there because Edmonton is the capital of Alberta.
The Royal Albert Museum is called that because it is named after our British heritage.
Tyler made the comment that the Museum has lots of stuff. Even if it isn’t local. It’s all local - Yes Tyler, we have dinosaurs here.
Shall we blow his mind and tell him about Drumheller?
Most of those places are outside Edmonton and would never be considered “Edmonton.”
Edmonton is known for as the city of Festivals and there are festivals of some sort happening almost back to back throughout the summer.
The River runs THROUGH the city - through the downtown area where the River is surrounded by the largest contiguous green space in North America (even larger than Central Park Tyler).
This video didn’t do Edmonton justice and quite a few of the clips looked like stock photos.

Albertosaurus and Edmontosaurus are the most iconic name wise, but yeah, between 60-70 different kinds of Dinos have been found in Alberta, and give or take 350 good quality skeletons (complete or near complete).

Actually, the museum is called the "Royal" Alberta Museum because Queen Elizabeth II gave it the royal designation when she visited here in 2005. It used to just be called the Provincial Museum of Alberta.

As an Edmonton connoisseur, I can safely attest that many of the images in this video were stock photos/video clips of not Edmonton and not Edmonton things. Many of the clips being entirely unrelated to the topic being spoken of. [like the water buffalo for example, which don't exist here]

Ukrainian culture is HUGE on the Canadian Prairies, especially in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta! A wave of Ukrainian immigrants came here in the late 1800s and early 1900s and they adapted easily as the land reminded them of home. They brought their farming skills, food, music, and traditions, making a lasting impact on the Prairies.

As an Edmontonian, I have some things to clear up. Wetaskawin is pronounced wuh-task-a-win and no, we don't consider it to be in Edmonton. Most of the clips the creator used were not actually in Edmonton like 15:20 and most of the mall clips. Elk Island park is a national park and does not have a drive-through petting zoo for bison (you would probably die), but it does have a ton of bison. There are no major man-made attraction and the park is used for more outdoor activities. In the mall section, the creator failed to name the boat. The creator also didn't show real/up to date pictures of the amusement park, aquarium, movie theatre (which has a great lobby) and bourbon Street.

"K Days" was called "Klondike Days" when I was a kid; it is really just a big fair. Reynolds museum is great, but it is not in Edmonton . . . and the narrator completely butchered the pronunciation of Wetaskiwin. The Ukrainian village is also not in Edmonton, but near Vegreville. There was a lot of immigration from Eastern Europe, especially Ukraine. This was an effort to "fill up" the Prairies in an effort to keep the Americans from moving in, and there weren't enough British people willing to immigrate. The huge statue is Kyiv . . . I don't really know why they included that other than to make a Ukrainian connection.

In which state do you live, Tyler? How much of your own country have you experienced. I chuckle when I hear you say “Americans do/don’t say/do this.” I live in Western Canada but have visited 9 of the 10 provinces and I’ve also traveled many of the mid and western states and know that there are huge variations. Your reaction to Canadian snow is an example. I would guess that you haven’t visited many of your northern states in winter, if at all. Still, I have and do appreciate learning more about (not “about”!) my own country through it.

    More on west edmonton mall:
-There’s a literal lake with a life sized pirate ship where events can take place, paddle boats can be ridden, and many years ago there were submarines that toured under the lake
-Bourbon street now isn’t as cool as it used to be, it used to genuinely looks like you were walking down a new Orleans street during mardi gras, with statues, music, and themed fronts on all the resturants. They’ve modernized it now, and while it looks nice it is nothing compared to what it once was :(
-Galaxyland (the theme park) has recently gone through rebranding. It used to be this really cool space themed park, it was really unique. It was bought by hasbro and now all rides and attractions are based around hasbro IP. The “triple loop roller coaster” that the narrator mentioned has been removed (RIP Mindbender) but the park is still really cool.
-The aquarium is huge and offers sea lion shows outside of it :)
-The movie theatre is another thing that got less cool with time unfortunately. It used to have a giant fire breathing dragon up in the ceiling (yes, it actually breathed fire and it was the coolest thing). There were a bunch of large statues of characters like Yoda, Batman, King Kong, and a couple more I can’t remember anymore. There were also a bunch of original characters around that as you walked through the theatre would tell a comprehensive story.
-The mall has the largest lego store in Canada
-More big attractions in the mall include: Go Karts, a Gun Range, Mini golf(2 separate courses!), Bowling, at least 4 large arcades, a VR arcade, and an escape room.

Im from Edmonton and so much was missing from here. Our river valley is one of the largest metropolitan parks in the world which is 1000 times bigger than central park in Newyork and it goes right through the entire city. West Edmonton mall is a town within a town. People live there and never have to leave. West Edmonton Mall was the largest mall in the world for many years till Dubai started building all their mega projects. The mall has a mock ocean full of sharks and tropical fish, you can take a submarine ride in the ocean and in the middle of the water is a 1700's style ship with a restaurant on it. The movie theater there has a giant robotic dragon that breaths actual fire and on the roof of the mall is a golf course. Fort Edmonton park is in Edmonton. They have old school playgrounds where your kids will 100% get injured..... for their own good. Downtown Edmotnon has pedways that connect all of downtown, in the winter you never have to walk around in the frozen cold streets, you can stay indoors, even shop in an open farmers market all winter long. We have Heritage days where every culture on earth opens little shops and food stands where you can taste food from all over the world and watch cultural displays of dancing and music. The river valley is so huge, you can go camping and feel like your not in a city, go fishing, go on a boat ride, go hiking for days... all without having to leave the city. Just north of Edmonton is a city attached to Edmonton called St Albert which has been considered numerous times to be the absolute best place to live on Earth. North of Edmonton are small towns who have a night sky policy so they turn off all the lights at night and you can see the night sky, the whole galaxy picture perfectly clear. Im blessed to be born in such a place.

-Klondike days is a celebration, commemorating the Gold Rush that happened here in the 1800's (Klondike days). Just a carnival with lots of food.

-Art Gallery and Museum and World renowned Music Hall (Winspear Center) all within a block of each other.
-Most Canadian provinces have similar legislature buildings. Edmonton's was built in 1913. The Original 'Fort-Edmonton' was there prior to it's construction.
-The view of the North Saskatchewan river is NOT that from the legislature. it spans 1,287km (about 800 miles) From the mountains to the prairies. It runs directly through the city. YOU were pronouncing it Properly!
-Edmonton is home to various Pyramids, The Muttart Conservatory, One at West-Edmonton Mall and these in the River valley, Beautiful display of flowers and plants. 4 Different environments in ONE place. They hold date nights there, Great first date idea.
-The Fort Edmonton there was built later, Not the original. It IS a spot you can visit and the staff dress like it's the 1800's. Can get old school candy there too. They recently built an old-timey amusement park.
-Ukrainian village is similar to Fort Edmonton, But based around the culture and work ethic Ukrainians Brought to Alberta. A Lot of walking but they have a Horse Carriage as well. There were a LOT of Ukrainian immigrants here since the 1800's. YES, they wear costumes there. East of Edmonton 20 min. That photo with statue is from KIEV, Not Edmonton.
-Elk Island Park IS Beautiful. So many Bison and rare birds. You can Camp there and they even have TeePee options. It's one of few 'BLACKOUT' zones,, void of all city light.
DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS AT NATIONAL PARKS

It's so fun to see a video about my city!
    Added fun things:
Edmonton is known as the Festival City. I'd recommend Taste of Edmonton (around the same time as K-Days) and Heritage Days (first weekend of August).
Whyte Ave is the hub for restaurants, pubs, bars, and arts in general. Along that line of thought would be the University of Alberta campus (the arts building is beautiful) and the Rutherford house museum
Some little notes nobody asked for:
K-Days was originally Klondike Days - had a full wild west town set up along with the gold panning. It's a lot of fun. Northlands (where this is held) always has a bunch of vendors and games set up. I look forward to it every year. If you ever get the chance, I definitely recommend coming to our fine city.
Wetaskiwin (not pronounced properly at all - think Weh-task-win) I would not consider part of Edmonton.. but Reynold's is still a cool place to visit and is close enough if you're interested in that sort of stuff.
Fort Edmonton Park is, in fact, within the city. It's on the south bank of the river which separates south Edmonton from downtown.

    Hello from Edmonton!
3:00 - Yes, "KDays" was originally "Klondike Days" (referencing the Klondike Gold Rush) and was briefly named "Capital Ex" for a few years (as in, an expo in the capital). I am probably the only Edmontonian that actually liked that name, but I can understand it being disliked because it lacked a real theme. There was a poll for what to change it to, and the vote changed it to "KDays", which is what people referred to it as anyway. Officially, the "K" doesn't stand for anything (so it's actually just as themeless as "Capital Ex"), but some people continue to keep the Klondike theme going by still dressing up in period clothing.
21:40 - I don't think that multi-level shot is of West Edmonton Mall, the video is referencing popular destinations around the world.
22:14 - No, that street isn't in the mall, the video was just saying that Bourbon St. (or "BRBN St.", as it's known now) is supposed to be like that street in New Orleans.

They said at the time that the "K" doesn't NECESSARILY stand for "Klondike". Some hold on to the theme, and that's fine, but I can't find any OFFICIAL acknowledgement of the Klondike theme. If it was meant to be so, they would just change it back to "Klondike Days", but, no, it's just "KDays". That's it. And I mostly specialize in restoration work. When you saw the legislation building, I’m one of the eight guys who rebuilt the dome on top and redid all the granite steps and stonework. I also did the granite pave and fountains. I live about a five minute stroll from the legislation building downtown. I can see the building clearly I’m beautifully from my balcony. They talk about the new Royal Alberta Museum. I was one of the bricklayers and stonemason that built it. It seems funny to me watching your reaction and then seen the amount of work. I’ve done in this city. I’ve took it for granted until now. There’s still many other things this video did not cover the aeronautical museum and the war museum White Avenue a nice place to hang out with great restaurants and food and a great bar and nightlife Jasper Avenue the other side of the river very similar to White Avenue. There is a massive amount of markets and you can get some of the best naturally grown food in the world here along with possibly the best beef and all of North America.. You have the River Valley, which runs along the Saskatchewan river, giving you great bike paths and walkways the most of any city in the world. The footprint plan of the city is the biggest in the world, although the population is only about 1 million people. Edmonton does have a pretty good first rate food scene. As you witnessed, there are many outdoor activities. Alberton are a pretty active people. You also have the Telus world of science, which is great and informative for kids to be honest. I’ve learned things there too. If you’re a music lover Winspear centre is phenomenal. It’s the best place I’ve ever seen Orchestra music performed. Its incredible acoustics are unrivalled by any other place in the world. And I’ve been to some incredible ones in London, Rome, Paris. my favourite used to be the Royal Albert Hall in London, but now Edmonton with its new music Centre beats it. Hearing an orchestra playing in there will make every hair on your body stand to attention. If you’re visiting Edmonton, it’s a little bit of a drive about three hours to reach the Rocky Mountains. The city of Calgary is much closer to the Rockies being about an hour away. it’s a bit more of a drive for people living in Edmonton but you can drive from Edmonton to the mountain town of Jasper in about three hours. When I used to live in Europe and Ireland, it would be considered a long way, but considering since living in Canada, I’ve had some driving trips where I’ve driven for 18 hours straight. Driving from Edmonton to Jasper is about 360 km. It’s crazy to me now that I think that’s not a long trip. I guess that’s what happens when you live in the second biggest country in the world I suppose. PS enjoy your video. It was strange for me to see the place. I live in and the things I work on.

Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, visited Edmonton during the Alberta Centennial Celebrations in 2005 and gave the Provincial Museum of Alberta its “Royal” designation. Ever since it has been known as the Royal Alberta Museum. On that same visit the freeway between Edmonton & Calgary (AB Hwy 2) was renamed “Queen Elizabeth II Highway” … known colloquially as the QE2! Another museum in Alberta had received the Royal treatment back in 1990 when the Queen of Canada gave the impressive dinosaur museum in Drumheller her nod of approval with this moniker: Royal Tyrell Museum Of Palaeontology.

The museum is actually in Edmonton, when something is called royal it generally means it's been sponsored by or opened or named after the Royal family. As for the mall is very similar to your mall of America and in fact it was built by the same company, Triple five corp.

The mall has a pirate ship. It used to have an animatronic fire-breathing dragon but that got decommissioned about a decade ago. It used to have submarines but they were replaced by paddle boats to tour the lake with the Santa Maria. The movie theatre that used to host the dragon also has an IMAX screen. The amusement park is called Galaxy Land but used to be called Fantasy Land until they were sued by Disney but the hotel kept the name the Fantasy Land Hotel which has theme rooms. The narrator of the video mispronounced a lot of the names and had shots of places not in Canada. The shot with the outdoor Bourbon street was from the actual one, not the one in the mall. The shot with the Ukrainian flag is of Kiev in Ukraine. Wetaskawin is a city far south of Edmonton and Elk Island Park and the Ukrainian Village are closer to an hour's drive east of Edmonton. West Edmonton Mall is the world's largest 23:38 indoor shopping centre. We don't have Buffalo, they're Bison. Similar, but different. Alberta is rich with dinosaur fossils as it used to be a massive sea millions of years ago. The Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller in southern Alberta is the place to go if you're interested in Dinosaurs. In the winter, Edmonton also offers Skiing at Rabbit Hill and many local children learn to ski there. Telus World of Science is another museum-like educational experience worth checking out and the annual Taste of Edmonton festival is on par with Epcot Centre at Disney World for representing foods from around the world. I'd say the main highlight of the city is the food. There are some phenominal restaurants in Edmonton. K-Days used to be Klondike Days, which was a celebration of the gold rush which is the reason the city was settled, is an annual carnival that lasts for two weekends and the weekdays inbetween and has all the classic carnival rides, games, and foods along with an in door trade show, circus performance, and petting zoo. It's great for kids though it usually takes place during the hottest part of the summer. Edmonton has a zoo but it's very lack-lustre, and there is an active night life.

They are Everywhere, Downtown is no longer Drivable in a lot of areas. At one Intersection, there is; No Right Turn, No Left Turn, No Straight Thru.... WTF? I reversed, and there was no sign earlier saying No Exit.
102 ave is Effed up because of the LRT, same goes for 107st between 102 and 104aves. 104 ave is losing 4 lanes for LRT and god damn Bike Lanes. Stony Plain Rd is down to Two Lanes, except where will go above Groat Rd, there there will be NO Traffic Lanes, just LRT and Bike Lanes. 156st is gonna be Effed up, as well as a lot of 87ave. 132ave is being reduce to one Lane in each Directionm 2 god Damn Effin Bike Lanes, and large Grass with Benches and tables areas for the Homeless to relocate to

@@pjimmbojimmbo1990 The only ones of those I have driven recently is Stoney Plain road and 87th avenue. I know that the LRT is going through there, but much of what is blocked now is due to construction, which will eventually end. It is elevated near WEM, so shouldn't take up too much of the street. Maybe they can widen it west of WEM, since there does seem to be some space on each side.
I can see being frustrated for people who use the streets that you mentioned. I mostly just stay to my area of the city or take A.H. or Yellowhead out of the city.

The mall looked more like a jungle in the 90s, we had alot more animals in there like flamingos, 3 food courts, a big dragon in the theatre that breathed fire, bumper boats, sub rides, i dont really remember what else but yea

I live in Leduc. Just 20 minutes down the road from Edmonton. You should come and check out the West Edmonton Mall. Also come when the Oilers are playing.

“People travel to see this mall”
My family travelled 9h by car from PGBC to EDAB just to go to the amusement park in this mall when I was a small child.
Thats the crazy part about West Ed Mall. Is that it’s not recently been this massive or crazy, it’s _always_ been this massive and crazy

The mall is absolutely massive, I seriously recommend spending 2 days, 1 just shopping and checking things out, there's giant aquariums, the food court is themed, there's like a New Orleans, Waterpark with wave pool, Galaxy land with coasters, can't wait to take our lil one once she's old enough

The Mall is like a covered town, our winters go down to -30c colder than Mars so we really need it and all Edmontonians use it. You could easily spend a two week vacation there in the winter and only go outside to laugh at how cold it is.

And get some much needed sunlight or depression sets in quickly. A group of friends spent several days just in the mall (filming for YT) and noticed a weird lethargy and realized they needed sun. They also realized you need more than a long weekend to truly enjoy it all.

I often use the mall in winter to go on long walks to get some exercise.
One thing not mentioned, is that WEM's parking lot is the largest parking lot in the world.

Edmonton also near fort Edmonton has a bridge with $600,000 Balls . Edmonton is North Americas only city with a population over 1 million this far north. When the klondike gold rush happened Edmonton was a over land kick off spot to get to the klondike . The North Saskatchewan river runs through the middle of Edmonton has gold in it too
