Actually these commercials were incredibly relatable to most Canadians at the time. Especially the "unwritten code" commercials. They were genius as there was a good chance that, as a viewer, you would relate to two or three things on the list as they were incredibly common Canadianisms for the genertation(s) they were intended for. Even watching you react to them I am recalling how I relate to the activities on the list lol.
Tyler, the “Vegas” Golden Knights are playing in the Stanley Cup right now. 18 of their 29 players are Canadian- including their No. 1 player Mark Stone - originally from my Home City of Winnipeg! You’ve never chased a bird out of your house? Oh god, that used to happen a few times a year when i was younger, lol. And i have barbecued by flashlight.
Perhaps the greatest Canadian trolling of other fans was in the 1972 Canada-Russia hockey series. It was so serious that it was almost like a war. A group of Canadian fans went to Moscow and were chanting "Da da Canada nyet nyet Soviet". The Russians were NOT happy about that for some reason. Those fans were rounded up and deported back to Canada.
The Russian Red Army soldiers tried to arrest Alan Eagleson, one of the organizers of the Summit Series, for arguing with a goal judge and the Team Canada players swung their sticks at them and ushered Eagleson back into Team Canada's dressing room. They also harassed Team Canada players while in Russia by phoning the rooms all night long to interrupt their sleep.
Hey Typical American - thanks for sharing these. I am a Canadian definitely old enough to have seen these, but cut the cable before then so never saw them. Fantastic!
These are the most Canadian commercials available, Back in the 90s they were just as good. Hockey night in Canada commercials are also up there Yes we mostly derive our personality by distancing ourselves from America, it's worked so far. Everyone around the world knows us as the "good" Americans. Edit: not just any tape, duct tape.
Funny, like many of Tyler's videos, he's learning but he doesn't really get about 20% that makes all the difference in the impact, meaning, and comedy that makes it so meaningful.
Last fact. Molson IS indeed very popular. I would argue it's our most popular and famous beer. Something you should be aware of is that they probably went all out with their budgets because these always aired during hockey night in Canada, where they would have a huge audience since nearly everyone watches hockey here. Sometimes you would see one of these play like 20 times during the course of a 3 hour game. Moslon is very intertwined in hockey culture here. So much so that they now own my favorite team, the Montreal Canadians. Now you know. Love your videos and how interested you are in our awesome culture and country. ❤❤❤
pulling that guys suit from behind to above his head is in reference to a "hockey fight" as thats one of the things the player tries to do to his opponent to impair his ability to fight back..
Good job on these! I think the reason our beer commercials aren't necessarily so beer-centered is because, back in the day (maybe about the '60s and '70s), they weren't allowed to show the beer bottle or can in the ad, just the logo. So the ads had to be creative to even get across that they were selling beer!
You'll see that the "I Am Canadian" campaign ended in 2005. That's because Molson was bought by Coors in 2005. The beer's the same. It's still Molson. But when Coors bought it, the slogan became a bit too ironic.
I was around 8/ 9 years old in 1994, so I don't remember that first beer commercial, either. I've seen the more recent I Am Canadian commercials. Some of these commercials are so funny! Loved the one of the Canadian hitting the puck on the moon!
Sadly The rant and the anthem were not a part of that collection. The rant is by far the best out of all of them. I would encourage you to look it up and react to it.
There's another video that will include the rant from Joe Canadian but you also got to find the one with William Shatner doing the the rant.. LOL.. Classic.🍻🇨🇦
I loved those ads. Never been a beer drinker, but was addicted to them. I was so bad, I’d stop what I was doing and watch them to the end. I agree that “The Rant” was the best. Ty for showing these.
I am Canadian and lived in the USA for 14 years. These commercials are not an exaggeration on how (some) Americans talk to Canadians. I got the "do you know [insert name here] from Canada?", got asked if we live in igloos, got asked if we have pizza in canada, got asked if i bought my clothes in Canada, got asked when we celebrate Christmas in Canada, oh, and the kicker: "Where's Canada?"
There was also a series of Molson beer fridge commercials from several years ago. These large bright red fridges were stocked full of cans or bottles of Molson Canadian and would open if certain conditions were met: 1) As mentioned below, some fridges were randomly placed in various locations in the UK, France and Belgium. The fridges would only open if a Canadian passport was scanned by the machines. ua-cam.com/video/QKubM-GRuAE/v-deo.html 2) To reflect the multiculturalism of Canadian society, some beer fridges were placed in busy urban areas, and they would only open if the phrase "I am Canadian" was spoken into the machines in six different languages. ua-cam.com/video/CfpatqyujM0/v-deo.html 3) Beer fridges were placed in random locations (including the middle of a wooded area!) and would open if someone succeeded in singing the first verse of O Canada correctly. ua-cam.com/video/xtiqWBuFROM/v-deo.html (edited to add links)
#2 : A little mistake there : they had to say their nationality in their language. For example, if you were French, you had to say "Je suis français". Same with Italian, Greek, Japanese, etc. If I remember, they programmed something like 20 different languages... if not more.
@@nadeaum26 There's no mistake, you had to say "I am Canadian" in six different languages, e.g. "Je suis canadien, ich bin Kanadier, soy canadiense, sono canadese, 我是加拿大人", etc. Remember, the slogan for Molson Canadian is "I AM CANADIAN". I'm so sorry you didn't get to see the best ones, some of them were totally awesome, greatly patriotic! the first ones you showed I don't even remember seeing, to be honest. And yes, as you could tell, we do get teased along by our American cousins. 😂 thats what family does 😊
Actually these commercials were incredibly relatable to most Canadians at the time.
These commercials make ya proud to be Canadian 🇨🇦
Tyler, the “Vegas” Golden Knights are playing in the Stanley Cup right now. 18 of their 29 players are Canadian- including their No. 1 player Mark Stone - originally from my Home City of Winnipeg! The other team, the Florida Panthers have 16 Canadians out of a 37 man roster. Many of the other players are from Europe.
Ever since I found your channel I have been waiting for you to do this!! Love your reaction. It brought back great memories that is for sure.
While visiting the Niagara Falls in Ontario I overheard an American ask another Canadian if we had tv in Canada.....1985 The ad is highlighting the American view of Canada while we know here our beer has a better quality and higher alcohol content Blown away myself you don't know the all Canadian beer brand 😇
2005. When we were vacationing in Mexico, an American asked if we had tv in 🇨🇦. Hubby told him no, we had to drive 3 hours to the border to our friends and we have television parties with them. Guy never even blinked
I'm Canadian and I almost forgot how funny these are! Thank you for the video and good job!
The best ad that all Canadians remember is the I am Jo and I am Canadian…look it up it's worth the watch!
the anthem wasn't shown here. i still remember the anthem, as a Canadian living overseas for 16 years, the song is still in my head, very patriotic...no matter where i go i am, proud to be Canadian.
Thanks for the memories! I always enjoyed these commercials.
You’ve never chased a bird out of your house? Oh god, that used to happen a few times a year when i was younger, lol. And i have barbecued by flashlight.
Yup me too
That tends to happen more often at the cottage...and the bird is more often a bat
@@lizapest8518 yup! Had that “bird” in my house too… 😂
Perhaps the greatest Canadian trolling of other fans was in the 1972 Canada-Russia hockey series. It was so serious that it was almost like a war. A group of Canadian fans went to Moscow and were chanting "Da da Canada nyet nyet Soviet". The Russians were NOT happy about that for some reason. Those fans were rounded up and deported back to Canada.
On the other hand, it was one of the first cracks in the Iron Curtain between our countries.
Tony Esposito said, "The Soviets had assault rifles, we had hockey sticks."
@@brendamiller5785 I remember Phil Esposito giving Canadian fans hell for booing the team. It was one of the most raw hockey moments ever.
@@Martin.Wilson I saw it on UA-cam, Big Phil was incredible.
Hey Typical American - thanks for sharing these. I am a Canadian definitely old enough to have seen these, but cut the cable before then so never saw them. Fantastic!
The freaky bird is a bat... that's one of the quirks of cottage country...lol. You didn't get the Rant... it's the most iconic.
These are the most Canadian commercials available, Back in the 90s they were just as good.
Hockey night in Canada commercials are also up there
Yes we mostly derive our personality by distancing ourselves from America, it's worked so far. Everyone around the world knows us as the "good" Americans.
Edit: not just any tape, duct tape.
Funny, like many of Tyler's videos, he's learning but he doesn't really get about 20% that makes all the difference in the impact, meaning, and comedy that makes it so meaningful.
Yeah he seems to be blind/tarded to the blatant pokes at Americans and how uneducated/tarded they are in their assumptions about Canada
Canadian humour is satire!
Drinking Molson out of a stien with 'the Rant' on it just hits different 🍁🍻🇨🇦
pulling that guys suit from behind to above his head is in reference to a "hockey fight" as thats one of the things the player tries to do to his opponent to impair his ability to fight back..
We photo finished on our replies, lol.
Damn Coors
I was around 8/ 9 years old in 1994, so I don't remember that first beer commercial, either. I've seen the more recent I Am Canadian commercials. Some of these commercials are so funny! Loved the one of the Canadian hitting the puck on the moon!
Sadly The rant and the anthem were not a part of that collection. The rant is by far the best out of all of them. I would encourage you to look it up and react to it.
Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane! Love these!
There's another video that will include the rant from Joe Canadian but you also got to find the one with William Shatner doing the the rant.. LOL.. Classic.🍻🇨🇦
This brought back memories and yes, the rant from Joe was awesome! A must watch!
These large bright red fridges were stocked full of cans or bottles of Molson Canadian and would open if certain conditions were met:
1) As mentioned below, some fridges were randomly placed in various locations in the UK, France and Belgium. The fridges would only open if a Canadian passport was scanned by the machines. ua-cam.com/video/QKubM-GRuAE/v-deo.html
2) To reflect the multiculturalism of Canadian society, some beer fridges were placed in busy urban areas, and they would only open if the phrase "I am Canadian" was spoken into the machines in six different languages. ua-cam.com/video/CfpatqyujM0/v-deo.html
3) Beer fridges were placed in random locations (including the middle of a wooded area!) and would open if someone succeeded in singing the first verse of O Canada correctly. ua-cam.com/video/xtiqWBuFROM/v-deo.html
(edited to add links)
#2 : A little mistake there : they had to say their nationality in their language. For example, if you were French, you had to say "Je suis français". Same with Italian, Greek, Japanese, etc. If I remember, they programmed something like 20 different languages... if not more.
@@nadeaum26 There's no mistake, you had to say "I am Canadian" in six different languages, e.g. "Je suis canadien, ich bin Kanadier, soy canadiense, sono canadese, 我是加拿大人", etc. Remember, the slogan for Molson Canadian is "I AM CANADIAN". Here is a link to that commercial: ua-cam.com/video/CfpatqyujM0/v-deo.html
@@chacojocko Shame on me! I shouldn't have gone from memory and look at my videos instead. You are absolutely right, they had to say "I Am Canadian" in 6 different languages, out of the 40 they programmed in the fridge.
@@chacojocko thanks for the link!
I just watched those three links. This made my day! 😅
Hi Tyler!!! Love your videos!!! I’m a Canadian from Montreal!!! Have you heard of the movie bon cop bad cop??? It’s insanely funny!!! There are parts in French but there are subtitles a must watch!!!
The rant and the anthem weren’t in there! You’ll have to make a part two ;)
One info you didn’t have I think : the returning link with hockey is also because Molson is very implied in hockey. The family has been owning the Montreal Canadians team for a long time. The arena was also called Centre Molson for a long time, but is now Centre Bell.
As a Canadian we do all wear touques, but only when it's cold. You know winter.
In America, a touque is a beanie, and sometimes a tobaggan
Molson has always had amazing commercials. As a kid all the "ex says it all" ones got stuck in my head and when i reached for my first beer it was a Molson Export!
Guestimate the phone number means that you met someone in a club/bar, wrote their phone number on your arm (or elsewhere) and then when you wake up the next day, you realized that parts of it is erased, so you have to guestimate it in order to call them.
That beer commercial where the guy's pet beaver attacks the American is hilarious! I can't believe I haven't seen these commercials!
To answer one of your questions - Similar and funny USA beer commercials are from Budweiser - they are well done as well. Although, by the dates it looks like Molson originated the idea in North America.
I finally found you. My favorite American. My computer broke down lost all my UA-cam channels. I am Canadian!🤣🤣😂
The memories I always loved those commercials my favorite was always the pet beaver. Having not seen it in years, it brought tears to my eyes because I was laughing so hard.
He already covered this is one of his previous videos. But how about the house hippo commercial video? I thought that one was great
Same here. I laughed as hard as the first time. An attack beaver! Lol!!! And beer!!! Perfect.
You should check out the commercials where they find the Stanley cup in a cab and take it across Canada playing street hockey for it! Super funny. Think it was Labatts.
I am so glad you loved these Tyler. Classic Canadian humour.
🤣🤣🤣
Good review. I, as a Canadian,
have never seen those before;
so thank you for making me
Laugh!!
These were VERY well know and popular on TV and often aired during hockey games. The first few were more about being Canadian(pride) he was a travelling Canadian in the States - and yes a big part of the Canadian identity is NOT being an "American"lol, and that's called getting "jerseyed" in a hockey fight, to immobilize your opponent to then beat on them. None of those were "the Rant", you have to watch it, it's priceless!"
That first one still cracks me up lol
the "office fight" one, was a hockey reference.
A 'J' stroke is used to paddle on one side of the canoe to keep it on course without switching from side to side so you don't get your gear wet.
When I was in RCMP depot, that's a training centre, Regina Saskatchewan in 1983, Molson Brewery had a brewing facility, all troops at the Depot were invited to the brewery and their drinking hall. We were permitted to drink as much within 2 to 3 hours. All free
Tyler I really enjoy watching your reactions. There are so many more of these commercials that I think you would enjoy. Please do more.
The cooking with a flashlight is for Barbecuing in Winter. It's a reference to how much people like to barbecue, how determined they are to do it, but also how it gets dark really early in Winter. On the plus side, it's light out longer in Summer.
This was my childhood. I also remember the Labatt Blue light commercials. Beer or water. It had Canadian actor Tom Cavanagh in it. “If I wanted water. I’d ask for water”.
In Québec, in the 80s, we had parody ads of the Blues brothers as secret agents protecting the Labatt blue secret...
@@mattdarrock666 that’s sweet.
Molson should do a re run. We have a need for more like them.
They would drive our 0.001% trudeau ndp lovers insane😂😂😂 but everyone else here would be laughing 😂
You never got to the RANT, it’s a classic!
The hockey sweater move is awesome. Tyler, you missed the Rant commercial ...it's the best one!!
