12 year old me never truly hated Benson, but I didn't like the way he would sometimes treat the main duo (especially in "The Best Burger in the World"), but now I completely understand Benson's frustrations with Mordecai and Rigby. As much as I love the slacker duo, Benson's anger towards them is very justified.

Regular show is about life in your twenties. I feel like the characters are in that stage where you’re just working and trying to get by, you don’t make a lot of money so you have to budget in order to get stuff you like or do activities you like. I’m 26 and I stopped going to school when I was 22 and just worked a lot for a few years and took that time to figure out what I wanted to do. I eventually went back to school and I’m about to get my associates degree now. So I guess don’t worry about feeling lost or like a failure because your mindset is gonna change the older you get and with that comes other changes. ✌️
So the second ever episode of Regular Show I ever saw as a kid was the Eggselent episode. Oddly enough, it was that episode in which Benson became my favourite character. Yeah he was totally out of line with what he said about Rigby when Rigby was unconscious barely a foot away from him, but it's what he did following that comment that cemented him as my favourite. He didn't fire Mordecai after getting punched by him which a horrible boss definitely would've done (I remember being shocked at this). He later approached Mordecai to apologise, went out of his way to discover a method for Mordecai to finish the challenge by finding the journal, and then COACHED Mordecai to win the hat for Rigby! Now that is a cool ass boss and a good friend.
As the show went on I came to love Benson, Mordecai and Rigby destroy the park so many times but he doesn’t fire them, he gives them countless chances to do right and he even goes out of his way to try to relate to/have fun with them, some of my favorite episodes are when we see Benson getting down and having fun bc it just proves Benson isn’t all that different from them, he’s older and has the experience to know when to be responsible, something Mordecai and Rigby needed to learn
As adults we view stuff differently like squidword from spongebob and tom and jery we used to root for the ones that make us laugh but now we feel the chill characters
Bensons basically the Squidward of Regular Show: as a kid you might find him annoying and enjoy the protagonists outsmarting them but the older you get, the more you understand their PoV and see that their anger is sometimes justified depending on the episode
Benson was always my favourite character. But growing up, why he’s my favourite has changed. Going from the “haha funny angry gumball machine” to “oh man this dudes like genuinely cool!”.
A moment that always stood out to me even before I really started apreciating Benson as I grew older was Mordecai And The Rigbys, Benson comes with the rest of the park members to watch Mordecai and Rigby perform though he really doubts they could make a competent band by themselves, when Mordecai discovers their future selves set them up to do playback and admits in front of everyone what they were doing and rejecting their future selves, Benson claps. And when you get to know why Benson is the way he is towards them, you understand why, they took responsability and chose to do better, the one thing he wants them to do every day, they did then, and he's proud of them for doing it
Benson isn't a bad guy, or heck- even a bad boss. He just simply has standards and expectations, and I think deep down he really does enjoy Mordo and Rigby's presence at the park. If he didn't, they would've been let go a whiles ago (For real.)
Brother man, that part where Benson said "If I lose my job I have nothing" that shit hits home cause as you get older and your friends get busier sometimes all you got is your job and the people there. It's sad but true.
I always hated Benson as a kid but now that I’m older, I absolutely have respect for him since he always had to deal with slackers like Mordecai and Rigby.
Benson honestly was a great character and an even better friend. He just wanted everyone to do well. Also as I got older I realized that the gum balls kinda act like a 5 o’clock shadow and it made me like his character design even more.
If anything, as i became a adult in the real world & working hard in what im passionate about i Suffer from my formt of Anger management. Benson is a 110% relatble character. ❤ Love him and strive to be responsible like him. Epescialy that episode of the Golden watch that Benson was trying so hard for years to earn as a On the ball Employee or manager.
I love Benson because all of the above but alse he is just like that one uncle you have that seems the most normal person around but would casually drop the wildest lore of his life - the fact he is the world's best drummer, the past of beeing a table hokey champion, him having god-like powers if bottling up his anger....?!
You're pretty cool bro. I'm way older than you and came across this show becaise 9f my kid when she was in 3rd grade. She introduced me to the show. I am a big fan of the show and have been for a long time. You said a lot of stuff I've though about this show. Well done son.
Honestly even as a kid i related in some way to Benson I've had plenty a moment where i ended up as furious as him, even to the point i wish i did have the power to become a giant ball of fire lmao Simple things going wrong can be immensely frustrating, having to find a way to exert all of that anger somehow is something i'm very much familiar with More power to Benson, hope he never has to put up with people not listening to him again, dude probably gets exhausted shouting all the time

Benson is a deconstruction of the tough but fair mentor figure. He's not always tough and he's not always fair. He has problems and makes mistakes, and he begrudgingly learns how to make peace with his demons throughout the series.
dude i wish i coulda worked at the park seeing as how chill working with benson and the others actually is excluding the bad things mordecai and rigby bring to the park
I'm pretty surprised that so many here disliked Benson as a kid. I was already an adolescent when Regular Show was airing, so I had no problem with the character.
As someone who’s 24 now and work’s management in retail. I LOVE benson. I realize now he’s just like me fr. I just want to see my guys succeed, even if that’s finding better Opportunities elsewhere, and I do my best not to yell at anyone but damn some of these 16 yr olds are just not trying and not caring and that’s what really gets me.
You forgot to mention how he goes on the coolest solo missions ever. Like when he investigates the park dome and more in the later seasons and how he’s an excellent drummer and party animal. As an individual and not a boss he’s very cool. But I appreciate this video a lot I always wondered why he’s my favourite let alone anyone else’s 😂
I wasn't really a kid when I watched Regular Show for the first time but I was a young adolescent. The whole park crew and the show had something that really made the series special to me though. The brotherly bond, the bromance. And Benson, for all his lacks and flaws, was really a solid character. I really started to like him after it was revealed that he was a great drummer, and that episode with the impossible drum solo is one of my favorites to this day.
I hated how benson would always group Mordicai and Rigby even when Rigby caused 99% of the damage. And how sometimes like none of the situations were their fault but still get blamed.
12:58 unironically, I aspire to be like muscle man here. Honestly, benson’s speech about muscle man’s life, in the episode where muscle man proposes, truly shows how highly he thinks of muscle man, and to see muscle man return the favor honestly makes my heart sing, since having friends like that is how you make life worth living. Benson is one of the most genuine friends these characters have and honestly it’s awesome to see a boss be such a genuine friend. 10/10 characters
I was a pretty introverted kid growing up, I think regular show came out when I was around 11 or 12. Kids like Mortecai and Rigby always got my classes into trouble and I always got roped into the collective punishment because of them. Much as I liked the boys, I think I picked up why Benson was yelling at them sooner than other kids and liked him a little earlier as a result (got me into a really interesting piece of fanfic about him because of it, at one point.)
Regular show started coming out when I was a teen, and there was not a single moment when I ever hated Benson. He was always my favorite character, but I do wonder if would I have felt differently had I been just a bit younger
I'd take Benson any day over someone as scummy as Mr Krabs. I used to think Benson was just a poor man's squidward. But Benson showed more layers on his character. Squidward had it too in earlier seasons. But what regular show's benson had over Squidward is character development. It's not Squidward's fault as Spongebob followed an episodic format. While Regular show became more and more serialized. Benson was a cool person you can hang out with. Only time I hated his guts so much would be the burger episode. The busted cart and weekend with Benson episode made me wanna punch Mordecai and rigby in their mouth. Like dude, Benson just asked a simple instruction and these mor0nic dumbasses can't follow it. Benson almost died and fired because of them. I lost my cool when I heard Mordecai made that excuse about there's no lights in the arcade.
He's the boss absolutely everyone wants to have by their side when they're having a tough job grinding their way through life. The more I realize and experience how many people treat people materialistically, intentionally or unintentionally, and the more I realize how easily others turn away when I make stupid mistakes in relationships, the more I realize that people like Benson are better than anyone else. He makes you look like a person not a "person to avoid".
I remember I randomly was watching regular and my dad walked into my room and was like “I love the guy with the big head he’s funny af” funny cause he remembered when I was younger and I was always have it on 😭😭
Growing up, I was always really neutral about Benson. But later seasons added a lot personality and background to what was Benson's almost one dimensional character. Moments like finding out Benson was in a band, seeing his awesome drumming skills, his history with fuseball, and the his somewhat tense relationship with his own boss Mr Mallard, I feel added tons of layers to Benson as an individual and made me want to see more of him. It made him feel way more human. Seeing Benson as a person and not just the boss gave him a level of down-to-earthness that I can't compare to anyone off the top of my head
words are words. good chance something a character says in the series isn’t the worst thing they’ve done. the worst thing benson ever did was eat the ultimeatums. that had genuine anger running through my veins as a kid i never wanted to run a fade faster.
I got fired from my last job for some pretty unfair reasons and blatant favoritism. Any real life boss would have fire Mordecai and Rigby Day 1 and would have been 100% in the right to do so but Benson always gave them more chances and wanted them to grow. I would KILL for a boss like him.

Even muscle man kind of called out Mordecai and Rigby, saying they are getting in trouble because they aren't listening or telling benson stuff
Bensons basically the Squidward of Regular Show: as a kid you might find him annoying and enjoy the protagonists outsmarting them but the older you get, the more you understand their PoV and see that their anger is sometimes justified depending on the episode
Corin: “I’m 22”
Me: “What have I done with my life”
Benson was always my favourite character. But growing up, why he’s my favourite has changed. Going from the “haha funny angry gumball machine” to “oh man this dudes like genuinely cool!”.
Benson may have a short (mesured in the millimeter) temper, but there is no denying that he have a good heart
Benson my goat I love him
2:52 Except Bojack Horseman
That and breaking bad. Well in breaking bad you at least shouldn’t like your main character, even though so many teenagers do.
and don't forget the mega babies show
A moment that always stood out to me even before I really started apreciating Benson as I grew older was Mordecai And The Rigbys, Benson comes with the rest of the park members to watch Mordecai and Rigby perform though he really doubts they could make a competent band by themselves, when Mordecai discovers their future selves set them up to do playback and admits in front of everyone what they were doing and rejecting their future selves, Benson claps.
I think the worst Benson moment was when he ate the Ultimeatums.
Brother man, that part where Benson said "If I lose my job I have nothing" that shit hits home cause as you get older and your friends get busier sometimes all you got is your job and the people there. It's sad but true.
Like the shape of Benson s head, he's a rounded character.
I want benson as a boss
8:37 This is one of most saddest scenes I've ever seen 😢
I always hated Benson as a kid but now that I’m older, I absolutely have respect for him since he always had to deal with slackers like Mordecai and Rigby.
Benson honestly was a great character and an even better friend. He just wanted everyone to do well. Also as I got older I realized that the gum balls kinda act like a 5 o’clock shadow and it made me like his character design even more.
js realised the bubblegum in his head is a beard
It took me until adulthood to realize Benson's gumballs are meant to represent his beard, even though he has been seen with actual facial hair.
Mordecai and Rigby are like middle schoolers, and Benson is the dad.
@@tell-me-a-story- true
If anything, as i became a adult in the real world & working hard in what im passionate about i Suffer from my formt of Anger management.
Benson is a 110% relatble character. ❤ Love him and strive to be responsible like him. Epescialy that episode of the Golden watch that Benson was trying so hard for years to earn as a On the ball Employee or manager.
Benson is my favorite and he the goated along with Skips my favorite in Regular Show
I love Benson because all of the above but alse he is just like that one uncle you have that seems the most normal person around but would casually drop the wildest lore of his life - the fact he is the world's best drummer, the past of beeing a table hokey champion, him having god-like powers if bottling up his anger....?!
the goat has returned 🔥
Lmao😭🙏🏽
After the cart repair episode i started look at him a different way. Now i like him but when he broke down to the two if them that hurt.
I really love Benson. Every one of his appearances are good, even the ones people other than me hate.
Bro i was that young holy smokes ill be 23 in september
Benson deserved an oscar bro
Man, busted cart really made me sympathize with Benson a lot more.
Pops is my favorite character my favorite cartoon character in general but i always did like Benson he was stand up.
Regular Show content Nowadays ?
Dude. You Are A Legend.
Awesome Taste at animation.
I've always thought bensons gumballs made a beard for while now...never been able to unsee it since😂
When you get older, you start watching the same cartoons in realize I feel bad for them
Basically grew up with this show such good time Cartoon Network and Boomerang ftw
I liked benson even as a child 😊😊
I was around 11 when Regular Show came out and even then I didn't love Benson but I knew he was in the right still
You're pretty cool bro. I'm way older than you and came across this show becaise 9f my kid when she was in 3rd grade. She introduced me to the show. I am a big fan of the show and have been for a long time. You said a lot of stuff I've though about this show. Well done son.
Honestly even as a kid i related in some way to Benson
I've had plenty a moment where i ended up as furious as him, even to the point i wish i did have the power to become a giant ball of fire lmao
Simple things going wrong can be immensely frustrating, having to find a way to exert all of that anger somehow is something i'm very much familiar with
More power to Benson, hope he never has to put up with people not listening to him again, dude probably gets exhausted shouting all the time
2:50 “Now everything that was in my way is gone - and everyone else still believes in me. It’s only a matter of time before I get rid of the police. What do you think at that, L? This is my perfect victory! That’s right, I win!” -Light Yagami
Benson is a deconstruction of the tough but fair mentor figure. He's not always tough and he's not always fair. He has problems and makes mistakes, and he begrudgingly learns how to make peace with his demons throughout the series.
8:23 saddest scene
Yup😢
3:40 Benson was not wrong.
He shouldnt have said this at that time tho
@@EllieRose-p2l yeah his own employee had a coma
I’m glad the first scene you showed of benson was him drop kicking his tv that shit has me weak everytime I watch it.
dude i wish i coulda worked at the park seeing as how chill working with benson and the others actually is excluding the bad things mordecai and rigby bring to the park
I'm pretty surprised that so many here disliked Benson as a kid. I was already an adolescent when Regular Show was airing, so I had no problem with the character.
I didn't even know people hated Benson me and my sister always laughed at him get back to work or your fire
It’s so trippy watching that pilot when I was little kid and now it’s all over. Fuck time flies people
I was a pretty introverted kid growing up, I think regular show came out when I was around 11 or 12.
