Mollies Platties and Guppies get used as feeders because they are healthier for you predators to eat then say gold fish. Also if you in FL it probably is just way easier to breed them because in FL you can breed most live bears outside fairly easily all year round.

50 platies in a 30 gallon is a lot, I hope he has a large sump or canister filter for the amount of bioload he will face. Some will also be pregnant and even though they may eat there fries a handful will still survive.
Doesn`t everyone realize that they`ll just get more fish as feeders in a hot second, he saved a few individual fish but is simultaneously also fueling the demand for feeder fish. It`s bitter sweet but that`s the bigger picture.

Hey Paul I love your videos and your a very good fish keeper but for the sake of ur clown loach fish I want to inform u that clown loaches can grow up to a foot long so your 160 will not hold your clown loaches thank you for reading this.
I came across one of your videos a few weeks back where you built the mini pond, so I had to go back a couple of videos to see how the big pond was built and since then I was hooked. You should look into a water cooling system for the summer months, or maybe find a way to shade it better, the lack of shade combined with the heat can reduce oxygen levels pretty fast. I can tell you take very good care of you’re fish but they do get uncomfortable being in water over 80 degrees without areas to cool off, and since the pond is so shallow the temp is probably pretty consistent. Just a suggestion love seeing what you’ve done with everything none the less😌

ya not really saving them. by buying feeders ya are telling the owners that ppl is buying feeders so they get more.
That's why rule number one to save animals when they are being sold in bad condition (ilegal stuff, sick animals, on the road vendors, exotic sp. etc) is to not buy them. that's the only way to stop try and stop it. If ppl dont buy, then they dont sell.

Bárbara R He's aware of this as I saw another video of him saving the fish but he has chosen to take these fish because he'd rather buy a bunch of fish than allow them to continue suffering.
People may sell more anyways but it still gives some fish a better life.

Rescuing those platies is commendable but have you ever stop to consider what would happen when those platies reproduce like crazy inside your pond within the next few months and you realised that you have a problem and need to give some away....... And the whole process repeats itself over and over and over again??? The only logical and practical long term solution would be to keep predatory fishes in that mini indoor pond and feed the excess platies to them.

you should get a freshwater stingray because they love to bury themselves in the sand. Maybe like an ocellate river stingray.They are very hard to find though, and i’d guess pretty expensive.

Hey saved the Platies though...Platies aren't meant for feeder fish. I'd rather see those be saved than suffer. Regardless of what he does, somewhere, fish are still suffering. Be thankful he saved all those Platies so they won't die
