Colm graduated from uni as a composer of classical type music. He has several instrumental pieces that he wrote and recorded for the live play Critical Role (Welcome to Taldori). When Covid shut everything down and the sea shanty craze started he began to sing. His bass was always stellar but his tenor needed some work which he has worked on it and has become absolutely amazing. He lives in a rural section of Ireland that it often takes him 6 hours to upload a video. So dedication.

Norse is the basis for many north central European languages such as Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Icelandic, Faroe, and to some extent English (we use a lot of the grammar rules).

As a fan of D&D livestream Critical Role, I will say this: Colm McGuniess is a master musician. Love his stuff!
By the way, Maggie, you need to check out a song called "Valhalla Calling -- Trio Version". This song has Miracle of Sound, Peyton Parrish, and a singer called "ThatBassVoice." The singer ThatBassVoice is named Eric, and from what I can find, he has a 10-octave range, and is the lowest voice I've ever heard. If what I've found is true, he would have the largest range of any vocalist in the world, as well as the deepest bass voice in the world.
Lastly, Maggie, "Norse" is synonymous with "Viking" -- of which I am a descendent. I am both Irish and Viking, and I can say, this is exactly what I would expect from someone who would live the old Norse, the old Viking, lifestyle.

If you watch even 1 episode of "Vikings" on H U L U, you can hear how this sounds in English. There are multiple artists singing (covering) this in English. Basically, Old Norse or Norse refers to "Northmen" or "Vikings". This covers a major part of the history of Europe and the rest of the world.

Probably been said already (as I am super late to the party) but the similarity to Mongolian throat singing is to be expected as the ancient Norse culture was also a predominantly oral culture when it came to story telling, both myth and history so the use of vocal effects would have been the norm (it’s like typing in ALL CAPS in the digital age to get a message across). 😊

If you want to hear a powerful song done by a German group (this in english) listen to "Warriors of the World United" by Feuerschwanz" it is one of the most powerful videos/music I have ever seen-course being a person who wore armor/weapons of course I would love it!

Lzzy Hale on The Hu's Song of Women absolutely mimics if not actually throat sings. I don't think you've covered this, but it might be time now. This song is interesting, but not something I'd turn to often.
