I totally support you venturing off to build your own channel Colt. I’m looking forward to watching and supporting the channel 🙌
I appreciate it!
I like the smile on Colt’s face when he found his dream axle, it don’t get more real than that… also his attitude changed from junk yard professor to kid in a candy store!
Glad we had what you needed colt it's always fun when you come in my shop.
i have to say this probably one of my more favorite channels out of the "group" now. I never did watch much of the B&J stuff, but I am excited for Colts channel. He is doing what the rest should be doing, explain what your doing and why and show a result to help and educate your audience and have fun doing it. Colt keep doing what your doing, the others should follow your lead, body people should do body work stuff, people that fab do that, wanna play in sand, need a tow or recovery, do that. I look forward to your build's, your relaying of knowledge and skill, and your demeanor and presentation is entertaining, as well very knowledgeable and appreciated. Great Job Sir.
Wow, Thanks!
I wish we had a pick and pull here. Yards here don't let you grab your own and think everything is gold.
Same.
Cool deal. Owning a welding business we haul a lot of scrap off. They love our drops. Only issue is we seem to get flat tires after driving through and unloading. The old days of stock car racing, those 9" Fords were gold but you always tack welded a spot on the axles to keep them from sliding out.
Colt Wiki walking arround the yard with build and swalology lession ❤
Best truly hilarious comment so far, with the added advantage of being totally true
I loved going to the junkyard as kid finding and pulling parts. These videos are amazing to watch I love how you explain everything in detail it helps a lot that you just don’t skip over some of the important thangs.
Colt, you outta write all this down. You are an amazing encyclopedia of automotive knowledge.
I learned how to drive in a 1982 E-250 chateau van...
I love ford vans so much that i bought a 2007 E-450 cab and chassis dually for hotshot delivery...
Now i need a sleeper to put behind the cab...
In the mid seventies we made Ford 9” in 2.50, 2.75, 3.00, 3.25, 3.50, 3.70, 4.11 ratios. 3.90, 4.56 and 5. something gear sets were made for service.
Great video. Love junk yard crawls!!
Came here to see the totally freaked out international nuts. Ok, its me. Im the nut. Sir, what you found there was a traveler. Its still a scout II but they extended it 11 inches and added a third row of seats. It is still a two door configuration. All of them i have ever seen have been a fiberglass top (removable) with a rear hatch style door. As opposed to the steel top and tailgate / topper style rear doors.
Now the travelall was on a half or 3/4 ton pickup platform with a full non removable hard top. 3 or 4 doors( just like the suburbans) and had either utility doors or a tailgate with a roll up window in the back. Both of them had 2 or 4 wheel drive options and v8 options. But the travelall was considerably bigger in size.
And i know this matters to exactly no one but myself. I just wanted to throw this out there so others can identify a little bit of american history.
I just left a comment for Ben at 406 Garage to check out this video. He restores / preserves Internationals.
I love salvage yards! When I used to farm, I always went to "Meyer's Tractor Salvage" in Aberdeen, SD.
My sons are 51 and 46. I STILL have lug nuts from our junkyard trips when they were just toddlers. They still make "salvage" yard runs for fox body parts.
You are a walking encyclopedia of rear ends!😆
I'm just glad you still have junk yards you can go get parts. Around here they all sell online parts only.
I loved hitting the parts yards when i was younger, sometimes not even looking for anything specific.
You are lucky to have a friend. Our local wrecking yards will not allow grinders. They actually check every toolbox. Too much fire for them.
In Albuquerque, they have a big yard called 'U Pull It'. The year, vehicles are all in rows like a library, easy finds for parts.
Excellent work my friend. Love to see you making videos to help instruct people how to better their lives. Hats off to you Colt.
Thanks 👍
Had an 83 F250 6.9 diesel, broke 2 full floats, found a semi-float and it was a beast. Never had an issue with it.
Love the info Colt ,We went to the Moab car show on Saturday talked with Rory for a minute (another person FULL of knowledge) you guys are better than any college !!!
Always enjoyable to watch a scrap yard walk around with someone knowledgeable. Thanks for the content Colt, good as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
406 garage is International Heaven!
All good info for those who don't know, not so much for old guys, lol. Great insight about the 9" and why you want to go that way.
Great video Colt. Loved the S-10 build.
Thank you Colt for the scrap metal information on how to get more money out of my scrap metal ! We use to have Salvage yards around here in Kansas ! Now most of call themselves recycle yards and they already have pulled everything worth money has been taken off by them ! They also charge you more for stuff became they had taken it off for you !
I fully understand the love of wandering salvage yards. My grand dad owned one when I was young. I got a 49 Cushman scooter out of that yard when I was 8 years old. We got it running by the time I was 10. I have been riding every since.
That's cool!
Did you notice the hard surfacing on that grapple that unloaded you? I made that grapple from scratch and did the hard surface too. It took 2 sheets of 5'x10'x1". I also put the new engine in that sany that it's mounted to.
I got a big bearing 9 inch and hp 44 out of an old bronco. The 44 had the one piece castings for the radius arms and ball joints. Got another hp 44 out of a 70s f150 with drum brakes swapped the brakes and spindles all over to the 70s hp 44, put in a xj with 36 tsl swampers, wheeled it for years.
Scout traveler, not travel all 👍🏼
Tremors the movie made those gladiators one of my top tier dream trucks
Missed a few things on 9”s. No carrier splits at all, all trucks 73 and newer are 31 spline. Some Vans have an offset center section with different length axles cause the motor is moved over for pedal clearance on drivers side. Also take a flathead screwdriver and spend two minutes popping the tabs to take the tanks off the radiator, super simple and saves more aluminum.
Good to see your channel growing so fast. Keep up the good work.
Very well done explaining the differences in axles without get to far off into the weeds. I wish I would have had that easy of a time getting a replacement axle for my sons zj, crawling around in the mud with hand tools and an impact was no fun.. Yard allowed no cutting of anything.
Another great and useful video. I find your videos so much better now that you're doing it for yourself. Better material, More useful information, and keeping it real instead of just someone throwing money towards a build instead of doing real world like the rest of us. Thank you very much Keep it coming M8.
Great to hear!
Most people will drive past a scrap yard and only see junk. Colt and other likeminded folks will see "treasure". Thanks for the continuing education lesson.
Plasma cutter is great for cleaning up "dirty aluminum."
I spent many many hours in the bone yards hunting down 9" Rears building street and off-road vehicles. Was always a adventure. Miss it!!
I'm digging your new channel! Keep killing it with the content.
nice tips on re-cycle, but you can make a plier that opens the radiator tabs so you get the value of the end plate also.
The catalyst of a catalytic converter is usually Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), and Rhodium (Rh). All three of these platinum group metals are rare.
In 07 i just got out of Federal prison and i went around my Reservation and picked up junk any and everything i could find for free and some i bout for cheep. I would buy trucks and cars after i started hauling metal and making some money. I was making pretty good money. Then some people seen me doing it after a year and they started and then it was hard to find. It cleaned up a lot of people's yards thow around here. Junking is easy and fun and when you learn how to separate it all you make more. I even did trail house frames and would cutt them up from come corner to the opposite side corner had to be 3 feet or less and thst would ne prepared steel and you get way mor for it.
The " Scout traveler" replaced the "IH travelall". The travelall was a full sized station wagon.
Excited to see how the Pacer turns out. Had a friend that bought one brand new first year they were made.
Can’t wait to see the pacer in action
Colt- if I was actually building a rear end your knowledge is unreal....thanks
lots of great information there Colt. Time to do a scrap yard run with a bunch of scrap metal ...
Keep up the great instructional videos!
Thanks, will do!
Love the new channel keep it up!
I had a 74 F-100 and had a 9” rear differential but I was always worried about breaking an axle but in 30 years it never happened even running 10 x 15” tires. But I did crack the weld and the pumpkin and was able to find a 9” out of a E-200 van that had shorter tubes.
My dad loved the IH scouts and vehicles. We had several over the years. I used to love cruising junk yards for old parts.
406 Garage will want contact info for those Internationals!
The two door lwb was a IH Travler. The four door was a Travelall.
Great axle explanation. Keep them coming
Wow! So much info on pretty much everything that has a axle! Lol. Great times and vids Colt. Keep on goin man!
Love going to the salvage yard, looking at parts that can fit what I need regardless of make
The van trick was some awesome info
You also had to clean up your yard for the move too......
Great tidbits.
It's a lot more fun when you are doing things you enjoy doing. One summer I worked all summer at a salvage yard removing tires from the rims for a 1964 Ford Thunderbird. I was planing on fixing and driving the car during my senior year of high school. Was told it had a blown head gasket. I worked on over 5,000 tires that summer. Turned out the motor had a cracked block and I didn't have enough money even back in 1975/76 to replace the motor. Wound up selling the car back to the salvage yard for I think was $275.00. Talk about being young a stupid. That was me.
At least you got tire skills though!
Ya, that School of Hard Knocks has a lot of graduates. lol
@@doughaven-rf8id Yeah it sure does and some of us are honor graduates. LOL
Dang it colt I needed that truck bed 😢
I definitely miss going to the junk yard with my dad. Those were good times for sure. All the local ones we went to back then are gone now. There is one about an hour Away that i have hit a couple times. I'm not sure if they let kids in or not. I'll have to check next time i go.
Really enjoyed this and i learned nothing new! Keep em coming Colt!
The junkyard has some good finds in it. I would love to get one of the IH Travelers. The LJ of IH Scouts. 😅
You said that you forgot the other steel but I disagree, you actually remembered it 👍😁👍
LOL, I made $303 yesterday at the scrap yard with steel and aluminum as well!
The future looks bright, better wear them shades. Look forward to the next onyx build. Fell in love with that S-10/ Smokeshow build and planning a similar build on my 94 K2500 I've owned for 25 yrs. Inspirational to say the least. THANK YOU!!!!!
Great info on diffs, valuable info for those not knowing
This is my favorite video to date. Well done allot of nice tips and tricks.
Awesome, thank you!
Love the way you explain everything but Dude you need to snag the International Scout Traveler. they only made them from 1976 to 1980 and the 1980's are very rare.
There’s gonna be a car show may 4th at northern edge casino. Would be awesome to to see you out there man. Support your now local car clubs haha
We usually converted our 9 inches to full float. Moser makes a nice kit, not really "budget minded" though
a couple of nice salvage yards there.
Now I gotta clean out my garage!! 😅
Would love to see a budget build ..😊
Great content Colt! I get that same feeling walking around a yard looking for treasures!
Exactly!
Enjoy the knowledge you share
All the van axles I got over the years the pumpkins were offset
Nice job on your videos. You have a lot of knowledge with this stuff, very educational. Also, you did a great job as a commentator with the Off Road Games on the live stream.
Cool, thanks!
Thanks, Colt. Good info.
Some good tips. Thanks for the info. Have a great day
Hey Colt. You should give a shout at Ben @406 Garage about those Internationals.
Awesome 👌
Colt I am looking forward to seeing the pacer build that you and Rory will be working on. If anyone knows how to make a PowerPoint build on a budget it would definitely be Rory his Buggy is proof of that
Thanks for the tips.
Thank you Colt!
Great job. Thank you 😊
Great video, thanks for sharing it with us.
Good tips, very nice!
great as always great content
Nice tips. Thanks for sharing.
Great job
Loved the video
Great tips and tricks
I always thought those older style jeep pickups where a Comanche i thought gladiator was only knew when they got rid of potentially offensive names.
But i am wrong, oh well nothing new there lol
Great episode with some awesome info
Scraping is cool. 💪🏼
I always appreciate you sharing your knowledge on axles and gearing.
Good job
