  • The video presents a side by side comparison of the Hart brushless drill vs the Dewalt brushless drill. Both drills are 20 Volt.
We look at the size of each drill. We compare the power of each drill by testing them with lag bolts, speed bit and other bits to see which drill, the Hart from Walmart or the Dewalt 20 volt does better.
Dewalt Atomic series and Hart Brushless are the two closes drills to each other from the Dewalt and Hart brand that I know of. Therefore, if a person is looking for a prosumer level drill this video will help them.
I also show how these 20 Volt drills compare to a 20 Volt Impact driver.
At the end of the video I go over how it is important to look at all the tools in a given brand since you will be locked into a tool battery ecosystem.
This video should be good for a person trying to decide which 20 volt drill to purchase. This is sometime called a prosumer drill.

I subbed because I would enjoy seeing this channel grow, a little constructive advice would be to give model numbers when doing reviews so people know exactly what they are seeing tested. Thanks and good luck!

I was expecting more of a difference between the HART brushless and the Atomic DeWalt brushless. I was pleasantly surprised to see them so close power.

Always watch for sales because 20 volt Hart tools are on sale 25%-50% off pretty often. I just got the 7¼" brushless circular saw, ½" brushless drill, ¼" brushless impact, 200 lumen flashlight, 4ah battery, 2ah battery, 2 amp battery charger and it all came in a zippered carrying bag for $150. It's called Hart 4 tool brushless combo kit. Make sure it's the brushless version because there's several similar kits.
I always see videos listing the full retail price of Hart tools but I've never payed full price. It doesn't have to be a special sale like Black Friday either. Combo kits see the best discounts.

So as a rule most of the tests in my videos are non-destructive.

I believe the Hart is shutting down to prevent damage. I believe it's detecting over voltage or something like that when it gets in a bind. When in drilling mode it's in full power mode without any relief from the clutch slipping so when it binds up i believe it's possibly experiencing a brief over voltage or whatever it's called. I experienced the same thing with my Hart circular saw once when it got in a bind and kicked back. It definitely wasn't a temperature issue in my scenario.
    *Update*
I just seen a comment in a different video that said Hart has a safety shut-off feature that prevents it from overheating or burning up so i bet i was right about when it binds up it detects a power overload.

      Thank you for your comment.
Everything below is speculation based on observation:
I have seen Hart tools stop in two scenarios:
1 - The bit binding, in which case normally just releasing the trigger, moving the drill to where it would be safe to restart and pulling the trigger seems to get it going again. Other times removing and replacing the battery seems to work after a major bind.
2 - Long run times, such as the one here or after 270 holes in another video I am working on. In those cases only time seem to resolve the issue. As such I am guessing it is heat related. But again these are just guesses based on observation and should not be considered fact.

@@CluelessDudesRealToolReviews I experienced this when my 6½" Hart circular saw (brushed) experienced kickback. No lights would even show on the 4ah battery while still connected. I took the battery off and the lights worked again. I popped the battery back on and went back to cutting. I know it wasn't a heat issue in my scenario. I was only building a couple dog houses with ½" osb and 2"x2" but the framing lumber was cut with a ban saw at my workplace.

Great test. Easy to see that these chinese tools are much more worth the money. Even if they lasts shorter than great brands, it´s 1/4 the price! I have one chinese 12v much simpler than these for home use, and it´s so inexpensive that it´s really cool not to mind about abusing the tool !

I assume you mean the Hart drill will not "need a nap" during endurance testing with a 4aH battery.
I assumed it was the drill that needed to cool down, not the battery, but that is a good point!!!
If I do another endurance test I will keep a spare battery handy and try it if the drill stops during an endurance test to see if it is the drill or battery. I have already shot the next video, so too late for that one.... but there will be more!!
As a general rule I test with which every battery most people will have for a given tool. In this case, if a person who is new to the Hart line was to buy this with a battery, my guess is they will get the kit with the 2aH battery, but that is just a guess.
Thank you again for your comment, it has me thinking about doing an extra endurance test in the next few weeks just to see which needs the nap, the drill or the battery!!
Or perhaps two endurance tests with the same drill, one time with a 2aH battery and one time with a 4aH battery to see the difference..

A couple of observations. A cheap infrared thermometer would have been handy to see how hot the tool got.
Drilling holes near the support is different than drilling holes in the middle of the span where there is more deflection.
Also, have you noticed than in many, if not on most tools, the light comes on when you slightly depress the trigger and before the chuck starts spinning? It allows you to have the light on without the tool being on.
You did not mention how long you charged the batteries and if you measured voltage before and after testing.
You might want to look at videos of Project Farm and get a better idea on how to properly conduct comparison testing.

Thank you for that well thought out comment.
My channel is NOT a professional channel with a staff and a budget. It is just me doing the filming, editing, thumbnails...etc. I have no expectation of this channel making a profit, I have some doubt it will even make money..... As such the budget reflects those facts.
The batteries are fully charged for each test.
For endurance testing, they are fully charged plus at least 20 additional minutes on the charger just to be sure. I purchased batteries with fuel gauges for the HART tools... They are being used in the next video that is almost ready for editing. I do not put the batteries on a volt meter, but I do check for similar results off camera with a much larger battery to be sure it is not a battery issue...
I don't like to test with a 5ah battery in the episodes because most people will have 2ah (or perhaps even a 1.5ah) batteries. I just used the 5ah battery to double check results.
Now you have me thinking.... if the channel at least breaks even I might make an inline amp and voltmeter to go between the battery and tool... I am curious how much the voltage drops under specific loads... and how much of a load different tasks take...
I do own an inferred thermometer that was used for checking peoples temperatures... and it does have an "object" (as opposed to people) mode....
I might add that into the mix when it makes sense to do so in videos that are not already started... might be interesting to see how hot the motors get!! Thank you for the suggestion!!!!

I tried that and was surprised it did not help the first time I shot that scene, which was not used in the video.
In the first take I removed the battery and put it back on and it still did not work and I thought "I broke it!!!!" But then about 10 minutes later it started working.... Since all 3 times (only the last version is shown in the video) it stopped at about the same place I assume it just needed to cool down...
Thank you again for taking the time to comment!!!

Neither drill seemed overly loud in person. Both were about what I would expect for a $100 drill.
Now the impact driver used in the comparison ... that is loud because there are 2 impacts per rotation. Basically,, an internal hammer hits the drivetrain 2 times per rotation. NOTE: Impact drivers are not hammer drills, but impact drivers do have a internal part called a "hammer" that spins the drivetrain with a whack when needed.
I hope this answers your question...
