    I'm 56 and remember watching this show every Friday or Saturday night after the local news. This was before M TV! I was a drummer and my parents let me stay up because it was a weekend and they wanted me to learn to be a better performer. I had 2 older cousins who were into punk and we played these songs on VINYL AND 8 TRACKS!!

    Watching this glorious vid revealed to me the greatness of the Ramones. They were grounded in a gravitational way. Johnny and DeeDee downpicking, Tommy's steady hi-hat setting the tempo which everyone had to keep up with. Joey just an anchor center stage. He's even rooted with his mic-stand. Even their haircuts have weight! No spikes or mohawks. No jumps. Just heels down, in and out. Come on, 11 perfect pop songs in 21 minutes?!

    the order of the songs is also wrong ( they never have their jackets on so late in the set ( only the first 4 songs) so i guess they have played a rather complete set in a slightly adapted song order. Maybe they started with Sheena as it was the single around that time and could have been their hit single. Also the guitar switch of johnny Ramone was not taped. But great to see the blue mosrite in all it's prime.

      @@sensacionsombria5125 I just watched your video - that's fucking fast. Good job. The key to the palm muting, I think, is you have to go pretty light with the pick. If you pound it, you'll sound like Metallica. Long live the Ramones and those of us who work to play their awesome style. (I realize this comment has a lot of words, but I'm not a cell-phone addict, so my mind is fairly clear to express.)

    • @tonym994
      @tonym994 11 місяців тому +2

      their early records have more power because they're a bit slower than their way too fast '90's stuff. particularly live. that's what gives electric guitar it's power. not playing it really fast. who cares a bout chord speed. they're in a hurry. they go out to execute a show in the '90's tapes. this is classic RAMONES. re-mastered. I wasn't sure it'd work, as I prefer the ORIGINAL studio 'GIMME GIMME SHOCK TREATMENT' to the re-mastered one. but they're both great!

      @franktatom1837 11 місяців тому

      Dee Dee's count-ins alone prove the Ramones were playing the music.
      And, Tommy played lightly with his right hand, mainly because he was playing fast 8th notes, but he is laying into his snare and playing quarter notes with his right hand as hard as he is playing the snare. He plays the same way in the film made of their live album "It's Alive!". He was never a drummer until he played with the Ramones. So he had an unorthodox style.

    I came here from The Ramones getting booed off the stage opening for Black Sabbath in San Bernardino and after that ended it went straight to this video so I figured I would watch some of it to make sure that my opinion of the Ramones.....complete garbage....was justified. Well this didn't change my opinion....let me just say that they have no talent and anybody could get up there and replace any member and it would sound the same.... But I guess that's the appeal of punk: mindless drivel. These are the artists who are skilled musicians: beatles doors, alice cooper, ccr, purple (w/gillan), sabbath, queen, floyd (w/ waters), danzig !!! But of course it's all relative to the individual so who am i to criticize, if you like mindless drivel performed by DOLTS, well, go for it and enjoy yourself cuz at the end of the day all that matters is did it make u smile thinking of fond memories....like me, I smile when thinking about how when I saw Sabbath on dec 1, 1978 at san Bernardino swing auditorium The Ramones open for them and got booed off the stage under a barrage of trash bottles and middle fingeres...then Sabbath came on and kicked ass!!
