@@ViolentMessiah666 Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. If Tony hadn't lost the tips of his fingers, heavy rock would not be the same without him. De tuning was his only option in making it easier to play. Hell, the old Bluesmen used to play Drop D tuning a lot...
Yes, even their last 2 albums with Ozzy have some gems. Led Zep used to face the same criticism about their last 2 albums as well and now people are finally realizing how many good songs are on the final 2 albums of both bands.

Love Sabbath and enjoying the reaction to the song. Black Sabbath are up there with the best and I’m proud to live near the birthplace of Metal🤘🏻 They’re bit of a misunderstood band in how they were perceived originally. Definitely not satanists but not afraid to write songs about it. Geezer Butler is a very talented man, originally a guitarist until he switched to the Bass and it definitely shows in his playing style. Amazing lyricist too! Worked really well with his rythme partner on the drums Bill Ward. The two of them in tune to create one of the best rythme sections in rock! Definitely need to check out the rest of their back catalogue. I’d recommend my two favourite tracks by them. War Pigs (especially live from Paris in 1970) and Symptom of the Universe🤘🏻🤘🏻
A horror show every Saturday at midnight used Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath as it's theme music, I was hooked. By the mid 70s I was a ten year old Black Sabbath junkie, much to the dismay of my parents. LOL The moment of my vindication came in the late 80s early 90s when my mom played a Metallica tune on the baby grand piano after thanksgiving dinner. I had the sheet music with me, it was awesome.
Have been a huge Sabbath fan, especially Tony Iommi, since the first day I heard their music in the late 1970's and N.I.B. remains one of my favorite tracks. Recently saw the ScribeCash review of this tune and she had a more metaphorical interpretation of its lyrical meaning rather than the face value interpretation which I had not considered up to that point. Her interpretation was that it's about ANYTHING that has the power to seduce a person and thus consume said person's life. Needless to say, I was impressed and that's why I enjoy these reaction vids from folks who are experiencing these remarkable artists, such as Sabbath, for the first time and get it. You good sir have a new subscriber. Thank you.
This song was my introduction to Sabbath... Still one of my favorites. Liked the reaction. Geezer and Bill are unstoppable! Best rhythm section in metal ever! Peace! Cheers!!!!
Our Mr. Crowley reaction was banned on UA-cam. Heres the link if you were interested in seeing it.: www.patreon.com/user?u=15934121 I thought it was an amazing song and a great representation of Ozzy in his prime. \m/
Ozzy is from Birmingham, that city was the inspiration for Mordor, he also has a mutation that apparently some people from Birmingham has that makes him almost immune to certain toxins, specifically alcohol. It's a weird world.
Really cool reaction, you know what you are talking about, really good. First time I've seen someone recognize the bass. With love and respect, from Brazil!!!! Ozzy rules!! Tony, Bill and Geezer too..but..Ozzy...he's the guy hahahaha see you in the next video!!!!
I'll say listen to Rat Salad at the same time as Faries wear Boots as it's kinda an intro to the song. plus it's some of the best drumming in music history
Bands back then sounded cool -- the ones that endure anyway -- and I think it's because the presence of blues, R&B and psychedelia gave early hard rock/metal a groove to it despite its heaviness. Metal doesn't have that at all anymore.
I heard the song for the first time in Hangover 3 and just couldn't find it back then. After two years I found it and that was actually the beginning of rock music for me until I started playing guitar myself 3 years ago.
There is so much cool Sabbath. Their song composition is amazing (much like you enjoy Metallica's, you'll enjoy Sabbath) and Tony Iommi wrote like every cool riff possible.
Sabbath started as a blues band called Earth in like 68-69. That's where you get the funky blues just way heavier. I know they get a lot of recognition from musicians but they deserve more. They created a new sound and are one of the greatest bands of all time.
Black Sabbath is funk, you're fucking right! Ward and Butler are the perfect heavy groovy rythmic section. Iommi is a riff master and Ozzy's voice the spice that make it unique. Those 4 united, it's the best. Welcome on board man, Cheers from France!
You talked about the guitar solo by guitarist Tony Iommi and how much you liked it. A quick fact about Tony is his career almost ended before it started. Just as Black Sabbath were on the verge of making a record, Tony left work at a steel factory to go home for lunch. He told his mother he wasn't going back since he would soon be leaving the job anyway. At his mother's urging, Tony reluctantly returned to work and was involved in a horrible accident that cut the finger tips off his right hand. He was rushed to the hospital where they desperately tried to put the tips back on, but to no avail. Depressed and feeling like his life and career were over, Tony took the plastic from dish soap bottles and made his own finger tips. Because of the new tips, it helped him develop and evolve a different, darker sound and tone to what became the legendary Black Sabbath sound fans all know and love to this day. Amazing!
I was thinking that since you like Black Sabbath. These are some other good ones off the first and second albums. 1st: Black Sabbath (debut album) - "Behind The Wall of Sleep" - "Black Sabbath" (title tack) - "Sleeping Village" - "Warning" (The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation cover) - "Wicked World" - "Evil Woman" (Don't Play Your Games with Me) *these are the rest on the first album 2nd: Paranoid - "Planet Caravan" - "Iron Man" - "Electric Funeral" - "Fairies Wear Boots" - "Rat Salad" (instrumental) - "The Hand of Doom" Other good ones: *various - "The Lord of This World" (The Master of Reality) - "A Symptom of the Universe" (Sabotage) - "Tomorrow's Dream" (Volume 4) - "Sabbra Cadabra" (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath) - "Dirty Women" (Technical Ecstasy) - "The Children of the Graves" (The Master of Reality) - "I Came Down" (Black Sabbath as Earth demos 1968) Personally these are some of my favorite songs from them. I do own these albums on the original record vinyl 1970-1971. I'm also planning to get the original "The Master of Reality" on vinyl. I think you will have a lot of fun with these selections. This group holds a dear place since they are the originators of modern rock/metal and will always remain the best. *Fun little story on how their satanic look came about. Back when they debuted, there was very little connection between bands and the album designers. So given their name, one of the album designers placed a giant inverted cross on the inside of the first album jacket. Again with the little connection, they didn't even know till it was released.
B Sabbath, the way I read it, started out as a blues band called Earth. So many well-liked Brit bands got their US appeal from their respect for the black American music genres like jazz, swing, and blues.
Been watching your reactions for a while now. Enjoy you very much. Cool dude. Behind the wall of sleep and warning off this debut album are my favs. The album paranoid kicks ass. The album sabbath bloody sabbth is my fav album by them. Hope you explore these and what others have suggested. Thank you, peace!
Black Sabbath really hit their stride with their next two albums, Paranoid and Master of Reality. Pretty much anything off those two albums is definitely worth checking out for some early Ozzy era stuff. The guitar player is Tony Iommi and he is a legend. Actually the whole band is. Geezer Butler is phenomenal on bass and Bill Ward is an amazing drummer who incorporates a lot of jazz elements in his playing. After you've checked out some Ozzy era Sabbath you'll need to look into the Dio era... Heaven & Hell, Children of the Sea, Sign of the Southern Cross, Bible Black, etc.
Bill Ward was a slamming, swinging, hard assed drummer, funky as hell. He had groove for miles, and it all swung hard as hell. And creative, he had a very keen mind and was sympathetic to the rest of the band, he sounds fit in the mix. But the propulsion and heaviness...classic. Check out the Vol 4 album...just devious, same with Master of Reality.
Black Sabbath started as a blues band named Earth (People have uploaded their 4 song demo on youtube years ago, if anyone is interested in hearing it) and the background playing blues and jazz, lead Bill (drums) and Geezer (bass) to have occasional jazz overtones and swing feel that metal mostly lost. They got some great funkiness now and then from parts that are basically jazz on steroids (Fairies Wear Boots is a crazy jazzy song).
Check out Iomi’s story, got the tips of his fingers chopped off his last day of work in a factory before leaving for his pursuit of music. It has a lot to do with the Sabbath sound.
I've been listening to Black Sabbath forever - since I was very little and I've NEVER noticed the tambourine in this song. HAHHAAH As soon as you pointed it out I was like 'oh, yeah, yikes.'
Sabbath is the FIRST metal band ever. They were a blues band called EARTH before they changed their name. Look up the story of how Tony Iommi lost his fingertips to a large piece of heavy metal and had to re-learn to play guitar with homemade prosthetics and thus created the heavy metal sound. It will blow your mind!!!
Please based on lyrics don't assume Ozzy is a Satan Worshiper he's not, basically Ozzy was with the band one day and saw a huge crowd going into a horror movie and said "People are paying to get the shit scared out of them" LoL... So this is how Black Sabbath started. They sang about scary shit. This was set in the Era of hippies and all that so that's why the music was a bit funky as you say. Ozzy has a LOT of great music. Some of his best work was with Randy Rhodes in the 80's and With Zakk Wylde in the 90's. Mr. Crowley is a great song. If you really liked James Hetfields / Metallica's lyrical genius with Sanitarium, Check out Ozzy's Suicide Solution, song about alcoholism. It's brilliant.
Bill Ward, 2nd best drummer in Rock history in my book. The first 4 or so Black Sabbath albums are fire. If you love Zep, like I know you do, you're gonna really dig older Sabbath.
Geezer&Bill are a powerful...almost jazz like backbone of the Band. That Frees up Tony to do those awesome Riffs. Try Hand of Doom..you'll see what I'm talking about.
No Band prior to Sabbath did whole albums that were SO heavy for those days . Yes , They're referred as the "Godfathers of Heavy Metal" The Wizard is another excellent tune off their debut album.
as a black sabbath fan i recommend you take your time to listen every single song of the year of black sabbath with ozzy osbourne, your lifes gonna change forever.
One of my very fave albums is Technical Ecstasy but many put that album down who are all out Sabbath fans ..I really like Never Say Die also besides all of the typical other well known stuff by them ...Volume 4 is my very fav of all
One of the first songs I learned how to play on guitar was war pigs. I was really into Black Sabbath, Alice In Chains, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, and blue oyster cult when I first picked up guitar at the age of nine
The guitarist, Toni Iommi, worked in a mill. Just before they got their break, he had an accident that cut off the fingertips of his fret hand. He made plastic tips and de tuned the guitar some and thus the metal sound was born.
the reason for Sabbaths sound was a mixture of rock and roll and blues music that the band loved and The sound Toni had on guitar was due to a factory accident that cut off the tips of his fingers so he had to use lighter strings and detune his guitar half step
this literally was the invention of metal, right here. this album.
War Pigs has always been my favorite. But you can't go wrong with early Sabbath.
That first album is killer, well worth a deep dive!

There are two different guitar lines coming from the left/right channels during the solo. I guess they've recorded it seperately, right?

You talked about the guitar solo by guitarist Tony Iommi and how much you liked it. A quick fact about Tony is his career almost ended before it started.
Sabbath was first a blues band",Earth" i think, and changed up due to the saturation of blues bands in England at the time.
When I did gangsta rap at 15. I use to sample Black Sabbath. They had some funky parts.
It`s a golden rock classic! Their 70-s albums are all amazing! Difficult to say wich one is better.
Best band from the best city in the world. Birmingham England.
under the graveyard was different but it grew on me now i really enjoy it
That was the influence that the blues had, in forming the sound of the first wave of British heavy metal. That started in the early 70's.
Check out Iomi’s story, got the tips of his fingers chopped off his last day of work in a factory before leaving for his pursuit of music. It has a lot to do with the Sabbath sound.
get into it brother listen to more sabbath you will love it.best band of all time period.
Hell yeah, that's my favorite Sabbath song
I've been listening to Black Sabbath forever - since I was very little and I've NEVER noticed the tambourine in this song. HAHHAAH As soon as you pointed it out I was like 'oh, yeah, yikes.'
Ah the mighty mighty Sabbath! Love the surprise at the first “my name is Lucifer...”
Starving Buddha I watch reaction videos of this song just for that reaction
Shit, I remember having this on cassette when I discovered my dad's collection when I was around 8. Changed my life.
Doc Moe white cassette for me, sold our soul for rock n roll... I was 11... found it in a bush while walking home from school. Changed my life forever
'the warning' (also from sabbath's first album) contains one of the heaviest solos ever done by tony iommi
What about the sabbath bloody sabbath breakdown???
Sabbath is the FIRST metal band ever. They were a blues band called EARTH before they changed their name. Look up the story of how Tony Iommi lost his fingertips to a large piece of heavy metal and had to re-learn to play guitar with homemade prosthetics and thus created the heavy metal sound. It will blow your mind!!!
4:25 THE NEXT 30 SECONDS IN THIS SONG ARE MAGICAL.
Black sabbath - War pigs either studio version or live in Paris 1970
Ditto.
Yes , They're referred as the "Godfathers of Heavy Metal"
The Wizard is another excellent tune off their debut album.
as a black sabbath fan i recommend you take your time to listen every single song of the year of black sabbath with ozzy osbourne, your lifes gonna change forever.
How 12 people give this a thumbs down? Great jam right there.. ✌️
I know everyone will freak but I like the DIO years of Sabbath
Nah. If you had to choose eras of Sabbath, those two are the primos, they're just very different
Can't ever go wrong with Sabbath ( Ozzy and Dio albums only )
Hey, Headless Cross is a pretty good album.
Ian Gillian was ok
the reason for Sabbaths sound was a mixture of rock and roll and blues music that the band loved and The sound Toni had on guitar was due to a factory accident that cut off the tips of his fingers so he had to use lighter strings and detune his guitar half step
You gotta go dig "the Wizard" by them. Best drum performance and it has a wicked harmonica part as well.
Black Sabbath is a really blues/swing/rock band so things can get funky and soulful.
