Thanks for the upcoming Frieren reactions! I'm looking forward to hearing/see your impressions of it. Frieren is absolutely top-tier when it comes to fantasy anime. The English dub is pretty good, but honestly, it can never quite match the original Japanese voice acting. The emotions, especially in this anime, come across so differently and more intensely in Japanese.

@@mikeglaus5440 thanks! Next episode is edited. Trying to do a bunch before my holiday break is over. And happy for new ppl to tag along! Also, civil discussion on sub and dub! Just some personal details. I love the anime Guyver, the original came out in 1989. I rented it on vhs over and over at block buster as a kid. The show is gory, action packed, and the emotion/screams were intense! It was English dub, and I feel like that had a huge impact on how I consumed anime going forward. Heck, the anime took place in Japan, but the English voices nailed it. (I may rename the channel bc of the influence this show had on me). Then there’s DBZ, I watched the ocean dub episodes as they aired in the U.S., imo the best version of those episodes, but it’s clearly a byproduct of how I first saw it. I honestly really like the Frieren voice acting, and if it seemed off or bad I’d definitely switch to sub. I’m sure I’m going to come across a dub on this channel that is bad enough where I gotta go sub lol. I respect the love the sub gets, and I will most likely watch it in sub at some point!

@@kylereacts-s5b Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! I can totally relate to your love for English dubs - early in the '90s, I had a similar experience with Record of Lodoss War. I rented it repeatedly, and the English dub left such a strong impression on me back then. However, as much as I love dubs, I have to say that the Japanese original voice acting (sub) is on a completely different level - it's honestly the pinnacle of what voice acting can achieve. That said, the Frieren English dub is truly well done, and it’s great to see the care that’s been put into it.
I’m really looking forward to all your reactions to Frieren! It’s one of those rare anime that only come along every few decades - truly something special. I hope you enjoy every second of it. Side fact: Season 1, with its 28 episodes, covers 60 chapters of the manga. The manga is currently at Chapter 140 and continues to be absolutely mind-blowing. Many moments and events later gain a whole new depth when you look back on them.
Enjoy the journey - it’s going to be unforgettable!

Frieren is a series that a lot of little things (objects shown or snippets of dialogue) seems unimportant at first, but have an impact, maybe not in that episode, but sometimes episodes later. I read the manga, and there are little things I missed that others pointed out. Am sure some of us will point these out if you miss them.
The problem I see with several reactors is they start asking questions that often will be "explained" either in that episode then later. This is especially thru when you have 2 or 3 people reaction where they start yapping and thus they miss dialogue or stuff being shown.
Many elements of this world will be given out in bits and pieces over several episodes. SO trying not to spoil, but what is the importance of priests vs mages and what the two do differently is actually shown over several episodes later on in the season.
And there are many elements that even now we don't fully know, like the politics of the world.

There are a lot of DnD style animes out there. Really, I think that started with Record of Lodoss Wars in 1990. It was quite literally someone's 1st edition DnD campaign he made into a manga and was eventually adapted into an anime. Back when elves and dwarfs didn't have classes and all. But you can kind of see why the trend took off, fantastic art in that series. Also, well, Deedlit.....Sassy elves kind of will make things popular.

While I prefer sub on this one, the dub is decent enough for me to leave it up to the viewer's decision. I agree with one of the other comments about trying a sample (maybe one episode, or a dialogue/emotion rich portion of an episode) just to give sub a shot, but that's more to make sure you yourself get the best experience (whichever way that goes). I think people get too caught up in sub v dub for my liking, just do what you feel like is best for you.

    • @aediusbarbatus
      @aediusbarbatus 8 днів тому

Not to mention the VA performances strike very different tones. I get that translation is a matter of taste, and since you can't translate Japanese to English literally, you have to make some choices about what to do instead. The English dub script starts making choices I would never have made almost immediately (and I don't know what's wrong with sticking close to the manga translation and/or official subtitles), but whatever. But the voice actors make these characters into completely different people depending on the language you hear them in. Japanese Himmel is calm and soothing; English Himmel is effeminate. Japanese Frieren is detached and matter-of-fact; English Frieren is exasperated and bitchy. The voice acting is SO amazing in the original Japanese version that it blows my mind how badly they f**ked up the English dub.

  • @rb8599
    @rb8599 16 днів тому

A meta note on the phenomenology of sub versus dub. With dub, both semantic meaning and emo overtone are parsed through the same "brain channel" (the aural) as it were. With sub, the semantics are parsed via the visual channel while the emo overtone arrives via the aural channel. This can (again subjective and requires some practice) opens space for the viewer to layer in some of the viewer's own imagination, own interpretation, of the emo of the characters and the emo exchange between the characters in dialog. So a different viewing experience in more than just language comprehension. Conversely, reading subtitles requires practice (reading challenges such as dyslexia a problem) and a willingness to stop and rewind to re-read for comprehension. Rewinding frequently simply for re-reading can be a problem for reaction vids so a reason to watch dub for reaction content.
    Regards.

The four first episodes aired together. They kinda lead into the show. Frieren I would say should not be binged, but should marinate a bit per episode. Certainly there are some you could watch together, but you can find out if you ask for watch advice. Also I would say don't watch the sneak peak at the end of each episode. You can speculate what it means, but you will see that it is a bit pointless, just enjoy the episodes as is.
Regarding Dub and Sub. Well with dub you can concentrate more on what happens, but frankly the Japanese voice actors capture the emotions much better in my opinion for the English dub voice actors it was just a job. Maybe watch the first 4 episodes and then watch them in sub and perhaps you hear how nuanced Frieren's VA is.
Regarding the editing, you have small transitions into blacks, they are awful. How you edit the rest keep experimenting. Many would watch a full reaction with timer reaction (songs will trigger the algo so perhaps cancel them out with ai, or mute the sound) or only "highlights" of yours is ok to, but the people who know Frieren know every interesting beat you skipped.
Last the names and places are for the majority German words and have meaning. So if you wanna have that experience look them otherwise you could ask and people will spam your comments with the translations and meaning i would guess.
The reaction itself. Well if you think that Heiter's drunktard animation was great you will be in for a ride. This anime can surprise you in a lot of ways. Have fun.

It can be watched either way, just it makes the experience a bit different. For such things you may want to have discord to go along with your content and ask trusted members for watch advice / subs / etc. before starting a show.
And just another thing. In Frieren it is up to you to upload episodes in advance or upload an episode interact with the community and only after that record another episode. You may miss stuff and at least for the Frieren crowd the majority doesn't spoil (some in excietment may hint around the corner) and only give you hints for things that were setup before or say things if you may misunderstood certain stuff. All episodes are XX years after the death of Himmel the Hero.
The religion in this world worships the Goddess. That's all I'll say on that.
How long elves live depend on the author. In some works they live hundred or thousands of years, may be near immortal, and some they are immortal (LOTR elves are immortal, but half elves can be mortal or immortal by choice). We do NOT know if elves in this universe are immortal or just near immortal. Not been made clear. (like I said there are several things still unknown to us).
The Heroes Party went on a quest to kill the Demon King. Yes, he is dead AND no one will replace him (that's a trope in many manga that you kill one and another takes his place). Again, that's all I'll say.

Doing this multiple times during a watchalong gets pretty frustrating.
Anywho, I'm going to assume that is just your style of editing, which is fine, but it's not my jam because as I said it's pretty annoying for us that like to watch our own copies of the show. So with that, I hope you enjoy your journey with Frieren, it's an amazing show.

hello there! Totally get it. If you can bear with me, here is the explanation, plus some questions. Let me preface this with a THANK YOU for trying the video out in the first place!
A genuine question, do you watch other reaction channels? and have you watched other reaction channels watching FBJE? I ask this because any reaction channel, can't just post a reaction to the whole episode. I had to re-edit the episode 6 times because of copyright issues. The video gets flagged for copyright, and then blocked completely. So then I have to look at what parts the content is flagged for, and figure out a solution. For me (and other channels) it's incredibly disappointing. For Invincible, the other show I've done videos on, I have been able to post close to the whole episode, but same thing. I'm constantly re-editing so UA-cam finally doesn't block it. I did look at some other channels for Ep1 of Frieren, and saw they cut out pieces too. For me as someone who watches a lot of reaction content, I'm not concerned about watching the episode in the corner, I'm more tuned into the reaction/opinion/commentary. Most big moments obviously it's nice to see both the show and the reaction. But from what I have watched, and now reacted to/created content for, it's just how it has to be. Let me know if there's other channels who posted Ep1 in it's entirety and reacted, I would honestly love to reach out to them to see how they got around any issues with UA-cam. Thank you so much for giving this a try!

@@kylereacts-s5b "do you watch other reaction channels?" - I've been watching anime reactions for years. There are MANY full-length reactors out there. I am well aware of UA-cam copyright issues. Full-length reactors usually obscure most of the screen or have overlays over the show to reduce the chance of copyright, or just show the very bottom of the screen where the subtitles are, and usually either have no audio, or lower then normal audio. They are meant to be watched alongside your own copy. The obvious downsides to full-length reactions is you either have to heavily edit the screen showing the anime, or don't show any of it, so people usually just have their own copy of the show and watch it alongside the reactors. This way we can enjoy watching the entire show.
If you want to see some quality full-length reactors, check out some videos by Teeaboo, Animiddo, Romania Black, Rose Matter, Stone Faced Reactions (Raktus). Those are just a few off the top of my head who post full-length reactions of shows, with varying degrees of editing to the show to get past copyright. But they're all still full-length reactions so that us who watch along with our own episodes can do so without the annoyance of having to try and keep both the YT video and our own copy sync'd up.
On one end of the spectrum, Teeaboo and Animiddo both have no audio, and only display the very bottom of the screen where the subtitles are. They are also the two that go into the most depth with analyzing episodes with pre and post episode discussions, with their videos being anywhere from 1h to sometimes over 3h long with how in-depth they go.
On the other end of the spectrum, Stone Faced Reactions (Raktus) is able to not only show the entire show on-screen (usually with an overlay partially obstructing the screen) but as well as have full audio, however I believe they get hit with copyright fairly often so have to re-edit and re-upload the episodes a few times until UA-cam's automated system lets it pass.

@@kylereacts-s5b As an addendum to my first reply to you: With all the above said, I realize there are two types of reaction channels: Edited ones that are geared towards people who only want to see the reactor's, well, reaction and opinion, and full-length reactions that are geared towards people who actually want to watch the show again along with the reactor (as well as getting the reactor's reaction and opinions). I'm just a bit sad you're the former and not the latter.
Again this is just my person preference on reaction channels. I saw a Frieren reaction that was over 30 minutes long, skimmed to notice that there was over 20 minutes of "watching", and assumed it was a full-length reaction. It took me until around the 12:25 in the video to notice the first big cut that made me have to pause the video to let my own copy catch up, which prompted my initial comment.
So ya, it's fine, edited reaction channels are more popular then full-length ones so I shouldn't find it too surprising, I was just too hyped over potentially finding another full-length reaction channel that I got a bit disappointed when I realized you weren't, lol.
Anyways, from what I *did* watch, I loved your attitude/demeanor, and also your response to my initial comment was a lot nicer then some people would have written. So best of luck with the channel my dude, and again I hope you enjoy Frieren. It's been the top-rated anime on MyAnimeList since it aired a year ago for a reason, and nothing has been able to dethrone it so far :)

@@Kelven486 no worries at all Kelven. If I could, I would have the show completely unedited, that's why I was curious if you found channels with it unedited so I could ask them about it! haha. I am still very new to the reaction game, and I I've reached out to some creators already on how they circumvent the blocks. I will always try to prevent cutting any show content first and foremost.

Dub is crap. Cut in half the dialogues and the emotions. Very sad. I you plan to gain more viewers I strongly suggest you watch animes in sub version, never dub (except Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, who's the only one worthy of it). That's just an advice dude.
