Much thanks to the BBC for quality broadcasting, fine new artists, and bringing Clara Schumann's music before the public. Also, thanks for the Gershwin encore. That song was one of Lady Mountbatten's favorites.
George Frideric Handel Music for the Royal Fireworks - overture (10 mins) arr. Mackerras Anton Bruckner Psalm 150 (9 mins) Clara Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor (21 mins) INTERVAL Ben Nobuto Hallelujah Sim. A refreshing and momentous Beethoven 5th. You can see and feel that every musician was giving his/her best and was enjoying his/her performance. Thanks also to the sound engineering team for the outstanding recording. Proud to be a HongKonger! Proud to be a Chan!
Isata K.Mason is a magnificent pianist… I’ve watched her grow…. Incredibly talented, like all her siblings. How wonderful to have all your children be so musically gifted in their own way… well done, mum and dad!
Прекрасно изпълнение на Петата - едно от най-добрите, които съм слушал, а съм слушал доста... Чуйте само встъплението на вилончелите в началото на втората част - какъв великолепен звук! Изобщо, страхотно преживяване!❤👌👍
In my early twenties I lived in Horley, Surrey and worked at Mullard Research. For several years my girlfriend and I would travel with a work collegue and his wife, to the Proms. After the Prom we would visit a very noisy West End club Such memories. Now I'm 82 and living in a small village in the Free State of South Africa.
The Proms as envisaged by its founder Henry Wood offered ordinary people access to fine music. Now, it is an elite event with sky high prices and huge blocks of seats owned by millionaires. If you do manage to get in by some extraordinary manipulation of the BBC ballot you will probably have to stand.
Totally untrue, an immense lie; whatever is your purpose here? The Proms are the greatest value for music in London and the standing proms are still at a price which nobody would refuse- £8! The ballot applies only to the Last Night. You have obviously never been to a single Prom! Take your lies elsewhere or better still, shut up.
I disagree regarding Beethoven’s 5th. Not soulless at all. It had a certain youthful freshness which is a change from treating it with deadly solemnity. Beethoven overcame appalling deafness to reach for a human spirit that can touch every one of us. I enjoyed this performance, perhaps the opening movement was a touch faster than I’m used to, but I accepted the interpretation for what it offered.
Regarding BBC wokeness, it is a sad comment on the West in general that we’ve gone woke mad. But a festival of Two Months can stand a few nights of lighter music or of different genres. The great majority of the music played is western and “classical”.
The playing in Beethoven 5 is rather sloppy though. Articulation and even intonation problems all over the place. This level orchestra not playing quite together is not what one expects. Also, there is somewhat of a difference between energy and rushed frenzy.
I'm crying as I watch this from the states.. how grand how beautiful here we go the glorious proms are back !!❤

At an advanced age, the only treasure is a fond memory of good things.

It would be much worse if half the seats were empty.
Bruckner was an intensely religious man but did not seek to impose his religion on anyone.

It is sad that Claire's brilliance was snuffed out so early by the then prevalent society convention.

Sam Smith? Definitely not classical music by any stretch.
Proms go to D.E.I. 😢😢😢😢😢
Cry more hater
