Monday was great , work then home fixing up my old Bmw f650gs Dakar ‘s rear brake. New master cylinder repair kit and rear caliper piston abs I’ll be back on the road again! Good luck in Norway Marc
Hello Mark! I highly recommend to replace the broken spoke and properly tensioning the rest as quickly as possible. The loss of even one spoke causes a redistribution of forces in the rest and in the rim, and the spokes can begin to break one after another at the most inopportune moment when you are on a country road away from the workshops. If this happens on asphalt at high speed, for example, during heavy braking, then you understand how dangerous it is. Drive safe, have a nice trip
Its a very good suggestion but the bike is 30 years old and so is/are the wheel(s)! You can see the rust on the broken spoke! The spokes will keep on braking especially when he tensions them!
@@patrickcooper9641 unlike a cast wheel, whose so-called spokes are one piece with the rim and hub and work in compression under the load from the motorcycle, the real adventure motorcycle wheel spokes are constantly under tension and always work in tension, even the lower ones. After 30 years, the tension has loosened and it looks like the less tight and most damaged spokes are starting to break. A spoke not stretched to the correct amount cannot carry the load.
@@SeriyKot You are correct. One reason why I check my spokes/tension often even though my bike is newer and the spokes are off better quality but after riding thousands of miles off road all over the world I feel safer!
Hi Mark, please do listen to @SeriyKot Mik advice and replace broken spoke and tension the rest ASAP. You carry heavy weight for long distance and you dont want your back wheel to fail when your are far away from main cities and workshops. Keep up with smile!
