These bikes are becoming highly collectible. We only had these in the states for 2 years. I have a 1990 nx250 that i will definitely hold onto for a long time
You can see in my profile photo that I owned an NX 650, excelent trial bike from the 90's Transalp XLV600 younger sister, Africa Twin XRV 750 grand doughter, I rode it in the city, I took her through highways at 120 km/h or 75 miles/h all day long, off roads, mud, you name it. Not a problem, excelent bullet proof machine.
That one looks mint condition but it doesn't have the engine skid plate and the luggage rack behind the seat
Greetings from Argentina!
I didn't like selling Honda bikes at all. They didn't break down and we never saw the (happy) customer again.
(That was what we actually said to our customers!)
The NX650 was ahead of its time. This kind of alroad bikes (simple, lightweight mid range engine capacity) is now in high demand. Awesome bike! It's practical, comfortable, reliable and so much fun offroad!
Very clean!! That bike was very popular in Europe. Ken,I did a header wrap on my 650l,and I'm now running a oil temp dip stick from xr's only.before I did the wrap it was running 250 degrees, now it only hits 190.the header is very close to 2 oil lines and also the frame where the oil is stored. It made a huge difference!!.
Another excellent video and Honda bike .. Thank you Kaplan Cycles and staff. !!
That Nx looks newer than most today. I haven't heard of it till now!
One of my dream bikes. The older one with the lower front fender looks better
Sold as the Dominator here in Straya, very underrated motorcycle IMO, typical Honda quality and reliability. That looks like a sweet ride KK Snr
Had a Honda dominatier 650 loved it put it in the shead moved over seas it sat there. For years got my brother to sell it for me wish I still had it great bike
Best time of the day my garage my bikes and Kaplan cycles UA-cam 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
wow, had this bike when I was 18. The dual exhaust was cool. thx for the flashback.
"This thing will Wheelie all the way up the street.. I'd be more than happy to Demo that for you...." 🤣🇺🇸🤣
Had one shipped to London, trekked all the way to the Carpaty Mountains. Best summer break ever. I miss her very much. she never barked back only forward. why, just why do not make them any more
so respect to old air cooled adventure riders
Nice! My Brother had one. Beautiful bike. He wishes he had kept it. Thanks ✌🏻
The reason it feel faster is because the 2nd gear isn't as tall as the xr650l. I sold my 650l because of that reason, many people mod their 2nd gear with one from the NX and also the final gear since it's taller on the NX
@Tim Allen That may be the case as well but I can confirm that 2nd and 5th are different on these two.
Ive not seen one of those for years Ken, Awesome ole horse, that one is amazing
You can also get nx down to 125 cc , the 650 is the daddy , I loved mine ,i only used off road ,it can handle wotever you throw at it ,ken is right bullet proof , Honda named it the dominator for a reason, African twin is crf originally 750 now 750 upto1100 I think is only bike near it , I think dominator had a bit of influence on african twin
NX125 shared its components with the JDM XL125R and NX250 with JDM AX-1. NX250 got a liquid cooled motor while both 125 and the 650 were air cooled.
And the AX-1 has an incredible power output for a 250! Around 29bhp, but a tremendous amount of torque. And its also got a 6th gear.
What a sexy daily rider, whether you go to work on the highway or fire roads 💥💥💥💥💥
I love that nx.so beautiful.only bummer is that rear drum brakes
Honda swap the rear drum with a disk and release it as is today.
I remember hating these things when they first came out, cuz (like MANY people) I just wanted Honda to make a more dirt worthy street-legal XR600 to replace the XL.
These things looked bulky, heavy and funky, like there was too much stuff to break. Now that I see it a thousand years later, it's basically a proto "Adventure Bike", before its time. I kind of like it now, and wouldn't mind having one in my garage!. Wow 😵 I can't believe it. I really didn't like those things back in the dizzle 😆
Those 650's have some bark with the FMF pipe. If I don't like the Africa Twin or the Super Tenere I'm going to buy another 650L.
I really like those mirrors. Could you tell me who makes them? The mirrors on some of the new bikes are crappy. They look pretty, but you can't see much behind you. Thanks.
Man, bike sounds fantastic, don't even think about changing the exhaust !
that exhaust is original!!! :-)
You need to hear my Nx650 Rd02 from 1988 it has a Arrow exhaust and it sound a thousand times better than the stock exhaust
One a the big things I like about that that old Dominator ALL DAY LONG over the XRL Its got that cushy hub so it won't chew its own counter shaft splines off after 1800 like a couple a my XRL's have done If you own a XR650L you might really want ta look in to upgrading your ft. Sprocket to an LEAST one from an XR650R but even better ta go with a Fritz sprocket or what I use a modified 13T CB500X sprocket with a heavy circlip +/- on the rear depending what terrain you ride (the smaller diameter the ft. Sprocket the less chain snatch you'll get from that big ole piston punching through its power stroke noticably smoother especially if you are doing a lot a short shifting ) shellac those splines with a heavy coat of hi pressure anti-seize compound ever once ena while As that big thumpy beast has no kinda shock protection for the driveline the final drive will actually last longer running the smaller sprocket on that little piggy🤟😁👍
I've rode a lot of bikes and seen a lot of bikes not as many as Sr or Jr but I've never seen a NX650 in person. I would love to have that, cool bike.👍
A guy up the road has one. It has been bullet proof. Great Bikes. A+
Un latín América it was marketed as honda 650 dominator. Súper reliable machine
I love these. They were geared just a little differently, the off-road guys I wanna use it as a dirtbike won’t like it as much but it’s subtle and it just gives you a little tell her gearing for the freeways, it was more than just a faring it was kind of the first step towards the adventure touring sector, more in the category of the KL ours and what would become the transalp I think. But for me this is it. I love the smoothth of the twin on the transalp but I still like that single thumper. I hate the European versions they call the dominator that looked like they came out of an MTV graphics factory but I would love one of these right now.
When ever you have two comparable bike, you must drag race them 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The NX will easily win, mainly due to having a higher 1st gear over the XR....
I bought a 1988 model brand new in 1990 for 2'695 out of the dealership in Oceanside, CA.. I loved the style, the engine character, the torque. As far as handling it was a rail, however the engine didn't last too long. The top end ended-up being all worn out prematurely; Followers, cam shaft, finger ring of decompression mechanism. This RFVC Radial Valve system wasn't a good or robust mechanism. Mine ended-up being toast at 25'000 miles or 40'000 kilometers. That is the funny thing with Honda, normally, they make some really good engines, but from time to time, they also make some really crappy ones depending on which model ....Maybe there was a deficiency in the lubrication of that particular model, or the case hardening wasn't good enough. I have been wary of Honda valves mechanisms ever since. I would never buy a Honda with a Unicam system. The DOHC is the reason why I got a Suzuki V-Strom 650. For some reason only the Honda Factory 450 rallye has a DOHC ( with 64 horse power!!!) , but for the consumer grade stuff, they only sell the Unicam ( they probably make more money on it....:) I don't know why people claim they were bullet proof. I guess nobody kept them long enough to start running into problems. If they were so good from time to time you would see one with lot's of miles or something. I never did. They just seem to have disappeared! :). ua-cam.com/video/Jb03TvDE8a0/v-deo.html
Killer ride
If I could ride that bike to work every day, doing wheelies, I would be much happier at work. I’m going to tell my boss that lol.
You are 100%correct, I used to ride my 1987 trx250r everday at work in my early 20s..i remember using it to go to work for 60 days straight,,i used to get up to ride a hour before work often, that was awesome even if it was just 15 mins, ,
Got one that needs some fixing in my barn😏😎
Congratulations !!!
Beautiful job ! All what you need of a bike !
Which type of exhausts are they ( make, model ) and where did you get them ?
Thanks
Great bike I had a similar one a Honda dominator 650 year 2000
Nice bike, I have a 1988 Honda NX250 I'm putting on the market thats in great shape. Gonna be sad to see it go.
Sweet I have nx250 motors
I want one!
Whattttttt never heard or seen one before but its sick
Nx650 also known as honda doninator, I had one slapped couple nobly tyres on and take front mud guard off and put moto x front mud guard, gives it super motard look ,nice ,I used to whipe feild bikes ,
It is missing the chain guard. Also, the 1988 did not have a rear rack, but the 1989+ did, you can add a 1989 rack to it, but hard to find in the US since, but easy to find in Europe (ebay). The NX had a higher 1st gear than the XR too.
Beautiful color on the dark blue job
My kind of bike hit the streets or the dirt trails any time you want 👊✊😎🇺🇲
The rock guard/bash plate is missing from the frame rails.
Remember nx 350 sahara
Very rare, not sure I've seen one but WOW.
I bought a gold chain for my suzy gp125 in the 80s, I knew I was the shit rocking that bad boy 😄😎☇🏍☇
Not original front fender!!
Nice mic throw 😆
how much did you sell this bike? it is beautiful
I love my long travel bikes, anything from a suzy tx 50 to a DrBig 850 and you know it's time for fun
My daily driver is a 1988 NX650 with 8k miles on it!!!!!!!!! Bought it from the original owner.
I've been riding my -88 nx 650 here in Sweden since I got my license in 2006. Very cheap to own, and it never fails me. Very little maintenance, it just goes on and on.
I've wanted a Dominator for so long. too bad it's a bit more rare around my area than the rest of europe, which drives up the prices.
had one of these brilliant bikes . it wos red and here their called the dominator and the mudguard at the front is like a trials bike mudguard . good bike you can ride em all day . and never complain
I had one over here in the UK we call the the nx650 dominator bullet proof engine fun ride wish I never sold it
Any one say that YOU are having TOO much fun!
Love that model!
I've been looking for a comparison in English for weeks. Thank you
That's a 1988
….but it’s an NX 650 dominator?
The exhaust? Xl 600?
I don’t understand
? It’s a question!….
I think that xr650r has same engine . If we use same exhaust looks like same sound
Why the dirt bike not a road legal? Please ask
I have Honda denominator 650. How do I know which year is it?
DOMINATOR
I completely forgot about that bike.
S U P E R MOTO !
You ever drop that mike during the toss?
My Dommie is 2003 , last year of manufacture and still only done 12500 miles all completely original other than a new YSS rear shock and fork spring upgrade and bar risers and use soft luggage on the rear and Acerbis handguards .
Going to get a set of talon wheels with road tyres and put knobby tyres on the stock wheels for mud .
Starts first time and only cost me 2 grand .
She’s a keeper , looks brand new , love the old Dommie . 😁🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸🏍
Also, the front fender replaced and raised, and it is missing the fork brace, dangerous to ride that way, the forks will bend. :-(
Been looking for a deal on one for years... How do you find out price?
I've never heard of the Honda NX lineup before. That's a very nice street legal dirtbike (enduro), where having a 4 stroke engine, isn't so bad. Lol
Hi, how mucho for this Honda?
Thanks
I much prefer my 1989 yamaha tdr250, 2 stroke twin, street and trail bike,it will eat this alive,,i have a Canadian model,,it was not sold in the usa,,and is extremely reliable
ONE OF THE BEST BIKES HONDA .MADE.I HAD ONE 1989 I GOT IT AS A LEFT OVER. IN 1992..AN HAD IT FOR 11 YEARS NEVER RAN IT OFF ROAD IT WAS IN TIP TOP SHAP👍👍👍👍😞
That front fender needs swapped out. But what a great bike. I've always been a fan of these
It's missing a few parts mate
Missing the front disk cover and also the metal rack on the back.
Missing the scratch plate under the engine
That is a cool bike!
Nice b.c
hey that is actually a 88 lol
I didn't like the original front fender on those, but I really like the color
I like mine.
60 miles to the gallon probably, gas taxes are gonna climb now
I had honda 650 dominator in uk one of my first bikes
i like how it has mini fairing on it real nice.
