Doesn't matter, Orion has always put quality first. Only amps that I have used that is true power for what they are rated. One of my favorite old school orion amps was only rated at 200 wats max and it pounded harder then any amplifier I had back then. Everyone has their opinion and I respect that but in my opinion you can't get better then orion. It was the best back then, 20+ years later it's still the best!!!

The old school cobalt was great. Subs and amps. But of course they sold out. They just sold out again. What a shame.
They aren't made in America and haven't been for years. That is why the quality went to shit. Orion can't stay stable, if you can find any old school items buy them they were the best.

Big Wiz used uncertified and dynamic. And got the same,results like this gentleman did. Don't get me wrong Bug wiz is awesome . He just didn't explain it like the Orion team has. Who knows Orion better then their own people. They just don't want you to miss use their amps. Awesome video. Orion great product just like massive audio. Be safe all.
BigD does explain the differences, he just did them in earlier videos. I agree that these guys do a great job clarifying what the tests mean.
If people watch AD-1 or Amp Dyno videos and do not know that Uncertified to Clipping produces the absolute maximum continuous RMS power at a given load to the point of: saturation or a protect mode then maybe they should not watch at all. It is on the AD-1 display as clear as day. It is called reading and listening comprehension. Additionally testers use different frequencies. At 40Hz some designs are not as efficient as say 1000Hz (1KHz). However, for most high power mono amp designs this point is moot. Maximum is maximum assuming there is unlimited power supply current. Every design has a limit or limiting factor for continuous RMS. You need a mess ton bank of charged, low resistance batteries and giant super low ESR carbon supercapacitors to supply the designs over 5KWatts. I think these Orion dudes are trying to eduacate the users on how to properly use their amplifiers and to NOT fully rotate the gain potentiometer like a stupid uneducated moron. Your speakers and the amplifier will thank you and almost last forever if installed correctly. Driving a high power amp at high distortion levels just to get another 2 or 3dB of output is childish and stupid. Buy two amps, or buy the bigger, larger, higher power amplifier model above the one you have. Oh, good luck having a automotive charging circuit capable of allowing the setup to work properly and to the fullest potential. 200Amp alternator, 1/0 cables, and a couple of super capacitors is tip of the iceberg. If you cannot afford these items then just find some Kraco 6x9's on eBay with a "booster" amp and knock yourselves out. Always install equipment properly as per conventions and manufacturers standards. If it breaks or your subs blow, then it is your fault for being a moron. That is what the Orion dudes wanted to say. My favorite dude BigDWiz simply stumbled upon a product that is well designed and capable of providing more power at who-knows-what distortion levels. I think distortion should be the next thing to add to all Amp Dyno videos WHEN UNCERTIFIED MODE IS USED. It will be a pain in the butt though and more time. (Sorry Big D!!) You cannot get something for nothing. If you are a SPL bass system person willing to destroy stuff to be louder, and replace it, then that is OK and you have my respect. Everyone else. No. Certified tests at known impedance, known supply voltage, and known frequency ALWAYS STOP AT 1% THD and almost make things equal. I have not eaten in 18 hours and am ranting. Sorry. I am getting some tacos de birra across from the Hisense factory in TJ and will be quiet. Maybe some caldo too. So hungry. Make bass not war!

Orion is the best. Underrated. You get the cleanest power and doesn’t kill your wallet.

WeAreWatching Yu rite now I have all earthquake amps with Orion speakers. I’m trying to buy a XTR amp online to run my mids and highs. All the shops are closed because of this virus crap. My Earthquake’s are good just want more power. Eventually I will have all Orion amps for mids/ highs and for subs.

Problems with overheating?
Much like an engine dyno, the proof of the numbers really comes out when the amp/engine is actually installed and working. I've had great amps hooked to mostly crap speakers and got so-so results. Conversely, I've had so-so amps hooked up to great speaker systems and got amazing results. Cabinet size, port type and the airspace of whatever vehicle/room it is installed in makes almost as much difference to what a system sounds like than anything else. Not to even mention the head unit's ability to provide a clean signal to be amplified.
I kind of wish manufacturers were as transparent as these guys are about their products. Their emphasis on clean power, very wise words that folks should take notice of.

Love rewatching this video. Orion xtr2500.1dz is one hell of an amplifier especially for the price. I've been doing my own testing and can't believe the power these amps have on 12.6 volts. Truly amazing and Excellent quality.

You ever run alpine? I know orion makes great power but my alpine r series pull so much more power than rated.

In all my yrs in car audio,Orion has been the Best. I built my first system in 86 at 16. I now have a full Orion System for SQ. I've done SPL all my life,Orion is clean sound and power.
The HCCA and the XTR are solid amps but what's up with the colt and ztreets line....why put out great amps and garbage as well?

I remember back in the day, Orion was walking all of the competition. Seemed the amps were bulletproof and efficient. The subs, not so much, but hella great amps

It's weird, car stereo stores always criticize new Orion amps and speakers, but Everytime I watch dyno tests on Xtr's and hcca's, they perform higher than they're rated... I have an Orion system in my Avalanche and I love it..! Keep up the good work...

I have 4 xtr2500.1dz, everyone is claiming they know what they're talking about. First of all, the new 2018 models say on the front of the box 2500RMS, what in the hell do you think that means, it's not the nominal or the max like the 2500.1d. they are better!!! All of my birth sheets for the dz's are almost 3000 rms at 1 ohm@12v. the older d models barely break 2500 if your lucky. Orion is NOT going to flop the new models. For those of you that don't understand, they are more powerful.

The new models putting out about 500 watts rms more then the 1.d at same voltage. Orion has never overrated their power more like underrated. These xtr amps kill any amp I've ever heard. That's why I just bought my fourth dz. Do not talk shit and put Orion down because their small xtr2500's are killing your overpriced overrated peice of shit...
But my orion ztreet zt3000.1ds is over rated, that's one amp that makes me very disappointed in Orion

I found that out to be true. I bought an amp based off a test and sent it back. The amp I bought did not perform like they said and I don't like using bass boost from the amp or radio. If you set the gain right you don't need to do anything else to the amp. I have a 1500 watt power bass amp and bought a 3500 watt skar amp and well to put it short the power bass out performed the skar. I just bought an Orion amp and will let you know what I think. Thanks for this video.

I still got a old Orion 2x25 amp from 1988 going strong today, wouldn't trade it for anything. I had it pushing 24 mids for years and it would just laugh and ask for more. The things are rock solid.

I got my xtr2500.1 today 4/27/20 and I noticed my circuit board is a bit different than the one BIG D Wiz tested ?
Now tell everybody how many amps it takes to get that clean power and then how much you would have to spend to constantly supply that much amperage.

brain yeah I'm aware that's why I said xtr2500.1d and not xtr2500.1dz. I own the 2500.1dz it's a beast. The older amp is a beast too. I actually didn't even know if be getting the newer version when I 1st bought it. They both do ridiculous numbers dynamically which isn't everything but they do well all around. I love my amp.

Evan Field I remember Big Wiz Dyno the hcca 3000.1dsplx and that being made over 7,000 Watts in Dynamics made 4000 something Watts on certified if I remember correctly
Big D and some other video makers do tell you and show you if its certified or uncertified or any other, but i have seen other that show the power but not exactly telling how or in what mode which is misleading the customer, the idea of the video is to show the people how the Dyno works and what are the different modes of testing and what they will show.
When you call these guys at orion they are very rude, impatient and unprofessional when it comes to customer service! They give the brand a bad name! Thats the second time within a year that I spoke to the head guy and he got smart with me about a simple question as a customer to see where I can be guided on the product they made.....its a subwoofer it isnt serious enough to be this tacky and lose patients on a reasonable call??? This guy hung up on me 😳.....I'll never deal with them again....the product is good but again there customer service FOR ME sucked! Its sad that good products get represented by people that act like this when you buy THERE PRODUCTS LOL! Just my experience.....
I'm late to reconize this video but very well explained because they're are other channels that really emphasize on dynamic power which is dirty power and people get hell bent on that number good video nice work.

Love my xtr2500.1dz but the bass knob is beyond cheap and the amp gets hot enough to fry eggs on. Better bass knob and a fan and it 100% needs dual inputs. I have dual adapters on mine but the amp itself needs dual 1/0 power and ground because at 1 ohm its power hungry af

QUESTION! i have 3 10 inch jl Tw3s dual 4 ohms so im wiring them to i think 2.66 ohms. Will this 2500 amp give them AT LEAST 400 rms each? And is it 2 ohm stable? Thanks!

@@sarahconner9433 I no longer have that set up. I had it on a Crescendo BC 2000 at .67 and they did just fine. I now have 2 DC Audio XL Elite 15s on 7000 watts rms.

I know big d Wiz Dyno the Orion hcca 3000.1 dsplx amplifier and that thing did amazing numbers but I never noticed if he uses full game I believe him to know what he's doing and it's a strict professional not trying to deceive his viewers
I still, to this day, haven't seen anyone use uncertified mode only. Or have the gain all the way up with bass boost turned up as well. In fact every Dyno test I've seen the people doing it, make sure they explain NOT to use boost and how important setting gains properly is. Great test and good video and products. I just really can't figure out who you claim does this manipulating of Dyno tests? Can you tell me lol? So I can verify that you have a point?
I purchased the XTR 1000.4 for my mids and highs, and it lasted 3 weeks to the day after installing. I checked every single connection re-installed amp and it still goes into protection. I decided to pull one of my old amps out to see if it was my work, it was not. I installed my kicker zr 240 and it is working just fine. Have you had any issues like this with the 1000.4 ?
I dint get it . The certified 1ohm test did hit distortion at 2860 the dyno popped the distortion light on . So why say it didnt ? I say gic the gain. Yes these amps do over rated power i have one but thats just the point you saying it wasnt to distortion

Test the new 2020 Orion cobalt 4500.1d it has three 35 amp fuses (so maybe 900-1000) watts. The 2018 version I bought had four 40 amp fuses made 1400 watts clean power. I know the cobalt is the budget line but why make it so crappy? It still has the Orion name on it not boss.
Hi orion folks. One question: why does this amp have 2500 written on it twice but the 650.1 im thinking of buying has 650 and then 1300 below it on the amp? I think the 1300 is listed as nominal power. What is "nominal" power? Is that useable clean rms and the 650 is cea rms. Thanks

So I have an alternator coming,producing 300a and basically a stock car battery. I see it does 2900ish watts at the 1 ohm,but at 12.6. With the alternator and second battery itll be 13.5 - 14 at all times. Anh idea what it may produce then?I dont wanna blow my sub. It's a Memphis mojo 12, 1500/3000 underrated

Good afternoon Orion family. I wanted to run 2 154 XTR subwoofer with a your 2500.1D mono block on 2 ohms. Is that possible, I'm from Miami, FL if you have any shops that you recommend to have them hook it up.
So my question is the orion xtr 2500 1dz enough power for 2 alpine 12 inch dual 4 ohms subs without draining my car electrical system. And by thr way my alpines are in a vented probox and i have an agm battery running in my 2007 kia optima. I have a brutus 2416 with them but it seams that 2500 xtr is better for my 12s. I need your input please help
Yes the Orion Amp is better and puts out cleaner signal
Umm so how are people manipulating the test again? Because increasing the gain/bass boost will not do anything during this test. The test stops when it crosses its set THD threshold, whether it takes 100mV of input signal to get there or 10V. Doing an uncertified run, sure. But it's labeled accordingly. Example, BigD dynoed the same amp and got the same numbers without touching the gain. The run is the same regardless of gain position.
Let me start by saying I have respect for the company and I like the products. but maybe something was lost in translation. Did I hear them correct when they said they do not warranty amplifiers ran above 1% total harmonic distortion. That is craziness that would mean that they expect all of their customers to own a oscilloscope to check waveform and THD%. Nobody will know that at least an average customer would appreciate it comment from someone associated with Orion.
So I ask why do manufacturers even put a bass boost option?

Can somebody explain to me the difference between the OrionXTR 2500 1D and the OrionXTR 2500.1 DZ.... trying to purchase one I don't know which one is new and which one is old and I'm just lost on it I see one with 5000 on it and another one with 2500 on it....
the difference is the watts output. the dz puts 500w more than the older model. im just not sure regarding current draw. the 2500d is power hungry pulling 500a @ 1ohm

I have an Orion Cobalt CB2500.1D It does not make its advertised rated output but it is CEA certified. WHY did Orion lie? Orion in the 80's-90's was tops. Maybe I should have stuck with Rockford Fosgate. Dyno the Cobalt amp guys lets see it hit the numbers or is it just lies.
We'll if you would've done just a little bit of research you would see the videos on the cobalt line & they suck. I mean honestly with the internet & UA-cam how did you not check before you bought any amp....... do some research.

Dz is newer think it makes a bit more power than the 2500.1d did. I have a 2500.1dz birth sheet said 2944 watts I seen the 2500.1d birth sheet say around 2700 to 2800 watts

Tune lower. I play pretty flat 25hz/39hz. Subs don't go crazy till 23hz. I'm tuned at 27. Your subs may handle it if not make box smaller,port smaller or rebuild and tune lower are your options
Just wish i could keep a clean 14.4v running to my amps. I have a bigger alternator, but not much bigger than stock (only 50amps higher than stock 105amps) , extra battery, and 0 gauge wire, yet my voltage drops down to low 12s, high 11s. 😥
How many watts are you running?
I have that same XTR 2500.1dz pushing 3 audiopipe BD4 12s each subwoofer is 1100 watts RMS 180 amp alternator I use 3 17 plate semi truck batteries 13.4 to 14.2 . You can try those batteries.
My volt stay up my guess is you need good batteries
You could buy a more efficient amp that will run fine on your setup cheaper than you could buy enough batteries to run this amp.
Whats the difference in the XTR2500.1d vs XTR2500.1DZ ? i have the 1d and would like to strap another XTR2500 but i can only buy the DZ model now?
If you want to strap them, get the same model because the Dz puts out a little more power than it's predecessor.

Orion uses max output numbers on their boxes to make it look like they do double rated, where do you get those numbers from? Pretty much everything about car audio numbers are lies!!! Max numbers and CEA certified, ALL LIES!!!
Hertz So Good I was a bit confused about that as well. Like... Who is manipulating the numbers? I've seen Steve Meade, Big D, and numerous dudes from skar audio Dyno amps. Generally they all do it exactly the same. With exception of using different voltage levels. Which is always accounted for . It's like trying to make it sound like they are extra awesome just for doing the same thing everyone else dynoing amps does lol. I like Orion stuff so don't get me wrong, I just feel this video doesn't really make the point it's supposed to. Also if we are watching this... pretty safe to say we already know how the amp dyno works haha.
Idk cea seems pretty legit in my experience in the years I've been into this stuff.
From my understanding cea is a 2ohm 50% thd rating. I could be wrong but thats what I heard. Orion gets down and does do rated.

Ur amp is measured at 10 % thd not .01% as u keep saying in the video they are not the same .
This is a different amp than the ORION XTR2500.1D ...Your testing the XTR2500.1DZ ..The XTR2500.1D is the better amp...
The one with the Z at the end is the best actually

If you wire it at lower than 1 ohm, like .5, it's still alright as long as after rise it doesn't go below 1 ohm correct?

No it’s not cause impedance rises and FALLS so your in danger of dead shorting the amp. Just wire to 1ohm and be happy your never gonna hear a difference in a few 100 more watts so why risk it.
U will hear a diffence3. If u wire to .5 ohm. Rising to 1ohm or over that. If u wire to 1ohm u will b rising higher. And get less. Output.. I had different sub setups to 1ohm and half ohm. And i noticed a big difference.

gus0440446 I couldn't figure out who it is that manipulates test results either. Doesn't surprise me at all tho. I tried getting customer service from Orion 1 time and it was useless. The guy had no idea what I was asking and his answers reflected that. Just like this video... what are they talking about? The amp is absolutely amazing I know that. Own it.

So people what these guys are saying is the only amp Dyno test you should care about is Certified Mode. The other modes show higher and sometimes ridiculous overrated power level results but only at extreme and harmful distortion levels!
herbyverstink I have a theory about that. I thought all those Box ratings we're total BS and watt baiting. Until I watched the BigDwiz video of him testing the xtr2500.1. At the very end of that video he tested the amp at .8 ohms dynamically and the amp put out 7700+ Watts. So my theory is and no one has tested it yet but at .5 ohms the amp could possibly hit 10000 Watts. So all the Box ratings are at half ohm. Considering the amp drew 491 amps at .8 ohm your electrical better be proper if you even want think about testing it that low. Even at 0.8 ohm there are not many subs that can handle that much power which is kinda amazing for a $350 amp! Imo ALOHA
