- Tony nominee Eva Noblezada took over the Tony Awards on Sunday night with a performance of "I'd Give My Life for You"/"Exodus" from Miss Saigon.
She played Kim, a role originated by Lea Salonga in the 1991 original Broadway production, in the 2017 revival. In the musical, Kim, a young bar girl orphaned by the Vietnam War, falls in love with Chris, an American GI. With the fall of Saigon, they are separated, and she is left with their son.
Jon Jon Briones plays The Engineer in this revival, a role originated by Jonathan Price, and Alistar Brammer plays Chris.
The ensemble also performed a bit of "This Is the Hour."
Laurence Connor directs the production, which hails from the Les Miserables team of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg. After nabbing two Tony nominations, the show will segue from its limited Broadway engagement to a national tour. - Фільми й анімація
Oh Christ.......that scream. That look in her eyes at the end. How did she not win for Best Actress? How? This broke my heart. Here come the tears once again.
✝️🥺🤪🙏💛👌😉
When I first watched this I knew nothing about the show, yet that scream had me immediately shedding tears. She is SO phenomenal.
Please don't use God's name in vain.
@@dancerfruit2 oh my God booo hooo
@@dancerfruit2 gonna cry?
This should have won. They were on stage for less than five mins and they already won me over.
Absolutely, when I first watched this I was like- why have I not heard of this beforeeee!!
Same, im about to cry when the lady started crying
which show won?
@@offbrandhandymanny up hahahaha
Agreed
Holy crap, it’s surreal to see Eva at the Tony’s. The Noblezadas and I went to church together for years when they were living in Charlotte. Her entire family was probably the sweetest group of people I’ve ever met, her included. It’s just incredibly to see how much she’s grown as a vocalist since back then; she absolutely deserves every ounce of praise coming her way.
How lucky are you :)
SHE LIVED IN CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA?!?! I WAS BORN THERE!!
I understand, it does seem pretty far fetched. But, she did indeed go to Lake Norman Baptist Church in Charlotte
@Kelsey P. lol I believe you don't even bother with Potterhead. I mean Broadway stars are still regular humans who go to church you know...
Might I also add they're usually not as low profile on a daily compared to Hollywood Stars; their fanbase is a lot smaller, so it's no surprise they still are able to live in society normally.
She's from San Diego
Eva was only 17 just like Lea when she did Ms. Saigon she was a kid!
She was 17 when she was cast in the West End production but the show opened when she was 18.
@@jodishapiro9257 either way she was young.... Amazing performance
They were both young. If you watch Miss Saigon, the story does revolve around a young woman who fell in love with an American soldier.
Holy cow....
She was 21 when it opened on Broadway though
Eva should hire a bodyguard for the number of times she was robbed
FOR REAL
Who won that year?
@@KARamil Bette Midler I think
Because she's only half partly american-mexican and a filipino ..
she wasn't going to win cause the academy loves bette midler.
theatre politics. i hate it.
I got to see her in hadestown, and she’s truly one of the most talented performers broadway has right now.
Que suerte que pudieras verla en vivo, muero por verla actuar un día!!!
I hope you get the chance! I saw it was the show first came out and it is absolutely phenomenal. She’s a powerhouse and so animated on the stage. Very captivating presence
so true i couldn’t agree more
2:06 Not to be weird but that scream is so good??
It is!!!
Everyone who portrayed Kim did that scream so well. Now I remember Lea's scream as Eponine.
Unfortunately, we in the so-called developing world, have heard it too often lately offstage. If Eva's scream brought the pain of people being robbed of so many things to a virtual and live audience , then she deserved more than an acting award. Way to go Eva.
the small boy is such an angel ... being loudly sung at, gripped tightly .. he has no lines but what a little actor.
the boy had earbuds afaik to lessen the sound/volum
@@reimari11 that made it a little easier for him, yes.
Y’all… she sung that while SITTING DOWN!!! The talent that she possesses is remarkable.
In terms of character appearance, I think young Lea had a motherly appearance while Eva was more like a sister to Tam. But both had their own way of portraying Kim and were great in their own way.
Agree
I mean Kim got pregnant at 17 so it would make sense if she looked like Tam's older sister instead of his mum
Eva's makes more sense then
Eva puts her whole body and soul into this performance. That scream. The emotions. She was fucking robbed
Okay, that's one of the most insane live vocals I've ever heard.
I love Eva’s voice! Young and gritty but her own unique interpretation.
It’s hard to break away from the molds of the original in musicals but she did so well.
The lack of a standing ovation is criminal
What I feel often isn’t said enough or forgotten is Kim is a child herself going through hell. lt’s gut wenching & tragic. This actress did an amazing job!
I’ve never heard a more convincing scream it makes me choke up
are you literally f*cking tell me someone beat THIS performance for the tony? its crazy looking back, eva stole the entire show.
I love Lea, but Eva's is in a different level when it comes to acting. And the power in her voice when she sings, just amazing.
I agree! I prefer Eva's voice and performances. Absolutely incredible!
I prefer Lea :)
Lea's enunciation is better. Cleaner voice and technique. Eva's better in rawness and power...
it's still lea for me
@@amysnell8737 who is the tony winner?
I can’t believe Hello Dolly won and Bette Midler won best actress this show has outstanding and Eva’s performance as Kim incredible just seeing her in these five minutes shows she was more deserving.
Well tbh, Hello Dolly was also outstanding and Bette is an absolute legend.
incredible powerhouse vocalist, for sure. but why is nobody talking about her pianissimo tone color wizardry starting at 3:33?? she is an absolute treasure.
i love eva so much that scream had so much emotion behind it and her voice is unmatched
Eva deserves a Tony. Great production.
her "NOOOOOOOUUUU" 2:06 it's such a loud roar it gave me goosebumps
I’m the uncle of Eva’s auntie Miya. My wife and I were visiting and went to her house when she was just picked for Miss Saigon. We celebrated her grandma’s birthday. We’re so proud to be associated with her and to see her as Kim of Miss Saigon, and we’re pleasantly surprised to see her at the Easter Sunday movie last week.
I've never seen Miss Saigon, but if this performance at an award show can have me crying all over my computer screen, I'm sure I'll be a mess watching this in a theatre.
👏THIS👏PERFORMANCE👏 IS ✨BEAUTIFUL ✨
Vowel placement on “want” and “chance” is immaculate
This clip is what made me fall in love with the musical. It’s one of the most emotional things I’ve ever seen.
the way eva noblezada portrays such strong emotion and makes you feel what she’s feeling and also is just so insanely talented it’s just mind blowing
Eva, you gave justice to Lea and Kim with that... Vow...
Eva is a legend and I don't think she's even 25... So much talent.
And she got robbed for Hadestown too...
2:06 I had to keep replaying this part because it sounds so cool?!!??!
The fact that ✨LEA SALONGA✨ introduced the Revival Production of Miss Saigon 😌😌😌
I START SOBBING OUT OF NOWHERE
2:06 the way she compass her cry to the music 😱
Her preformance is so damn stunning, beautiful, and emotional. It really feels like shes screaming and crying but beautifully. Not gonna lie, I like it a bit more than even Leah's, it just feels very much more natural. But then again Eva did have one of the best preformers to learn from.
id give my life for you Eva Noblezada Miss Saigon Tonys 2017
her voice is so clear and clean, i’m obsessed
I was in the audience for the dress rehearsal earlier that day, I didn't know anything about miss saigon and it captivated me and moved me to tears. I ended up seeing it later that year, and I think I was a little too young to see it, I was only 14. but my parents came with me and I cried the whole show and then afterwards cried until the theater was empty. too young. but I don't regret it for a second. it was astounding, and I think it shaped me in a way I can't describe.
edit: I forgot to mention the helicopter! it was astounding. there are no words for the helicopter. it legitimately scared me. it was supposed to. and I don't think anything can really replicate that feeling of seeing and hearing and feeling in my bones the helicopter.
such a jaw dropping production
i cant with this. even when lea is just talking my heart melts. wtf is this wizardry
Yo she’s a an amazing actress and singer. I felt that performance. It was all in the eyes!
One of the most amazing live vocal performances I’ve ever seen
I got so much goosebumps. She is such a good actress and singer it’s like it is impossible
I watched Eva live in Miss Saigon and though I am
a big fan of Lea, this girl
pipes and she was equally fantastic as Lea in her own right!
Honestly , Leah's footprints in Miss Saigon are hard to match !
Lea knows how to converse with her audience when she performs.
I think that Evas performence and Lea's performances were both great, I would honestly put them on the same level.
@@benmiller3855 well ,I must say ,Eva did a great job as well but I don't think it's on the same level with Leah . No . If she was as great as Leah ,then she should have an acclaimation like Leah .
@@MRPOPOY-xl1mj as I write this I mean no disrespect to Lea, more of an appreciation for Eva. It is extremely rare for someone to succeed the original actor/actress who played the role and be widely known as “better” a sense of familiarity is still tied with the originals. I think that Lea is amazing and a Broadway legend, but I honestly think that Eva is one of the best actresses of the modern generation on Broadway right now. I really think that the way she handles the song vocally brings a lot to the character and the song in general.
@@benmiller3855 I cannot agree more. I love Lea, but Eva's is in a different level when it comes to acting. And the power in her voice when she sings, just amazing.
Her scream was remarkably so well in tune
Oh god- I swear that scream shook the auditorium… and the amount of pain and emotion she put into the role is just
❤👌🤌🤯
god that scream gets me every time
It's unreal how she even looks jyst like lea when she was eva's age.
What did I just witness?!
WOW!!
Absolutely amazing performance 🎭 of this talented young lady.
Yes, I was moved to tears. 🥲
My God I don't know her but damnit she can act and don't let me start on the singing..🤯 pssheeesh!! The power 🤩🤩🤩
Go on a binge of her performance videos, you won’t regret it
crying?! literally crying i miss theatre so much
I was blessed enough to watch Miss Saigon live at the Kennedy Center and it was fantastic
How does anyone give that intensity 8 shows a week. Absolutely wild.
Years later and I still come back to watch this. And every time I wonder where her mic is
Eva is like one of the sweetest people I’ve met so far, and hella talented
I’m crying omg 😭😭 she was incredible
Always been and always forever be my fave musical !!! Lea , Eva and Rachel Ann incredible and unforgettable talents 💯🙌
i could watch this video every day and every day it would give me chills. Eva does a fantastic job which will forever give me goosebumps every time I watch or hear her.
I just cried in the first few minutes-
this performance changed my life
I never liked this show when it first came out. And, refused to give it a chance until I got the DVD from the 2017 production. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Beautiful and heartbreaking!
At 4:40 I thought she was singing that to me. Powerful voice.
EVA OWNS MY HEART, LOVED THIS PERFORMANCE
Jon Jon had been playing The Engineer for years until apparently the production wrapped last year. I was fortunate enough to see the Second National tour in 1996. It was unforgettable. Lea was not Kim then but the story and music are so powerful!
Incredible. Powerful and tearful.
So much emotions specially the last part. My heart is ripping apart on the way Eva deliver her lines. Her facial expression, her voice. Aaargh this is too much for me
This Performance literally never fails to make me cry
Eva Noblezada has my heart
These mics!! So clear!!😭😭
WOW! She's amazing!
This still give me chills.
