Nice one Peter - funny one today, had a customer in with a commercial, he'd just had it in at the main dealers & had paid €1800.00 for "repairs" (last week). He'd left there with an additional quote for "what else he required" which ran to thousands, including a new turbo, new injectors, ABS unit, new DPF, blah blah - dash was lit up like a christmas tree despite his €1800 spend and it was cutting out constantly, no power, blah blah.... roish..
I took a proper look - plus I fixed ALL the stuff he'd already paid them €1800 to be fixed because their version of even that pish wasn't right.. Example, for the first time since it was new, his sliding door actually shut properly - a big chunk of the 1800 had gone on that alone, to no avail as it still didn't shut till I fixed it. That aside, down in the lh wheelwell, the entire wiring loom was just hanging in the breeze - the mounting bracket was off... tracing back the earths etc, wires were melted into a mush from rubbing on the chassis - dunno how the van didn't burn, dunno how it still ran at all & dunno how the "Main dealers" missed it. I cut off meters of toasted wires, replaced, secured the loom properly, found another ecu feed that was shorting onto the chassis elsewhere - you get the picture. 1 relay was so toasted I had to cut it off to replace it, no way would it budge.. The earths to the chassis were absolutely manky, barely making contact.
Cleared the 1001 codes, tested the turbo - it's mint, tested the dpf - mint too, abs faults all gone, "injector" faults all gone, engine running like a watch, clear dash, smoke not belching out the exhaust any more.. One engine mounts worn - they'd called that banging noise "replace rh lower suspension wishbone - €690.00" on their quote.... Eh??
Long story long, I charged him 100 quid & sent him on his way with the van going nice. Told him to come back when an engine mount lands in here & I'll fit it. He hugged me when I gave him his bill & said it was fixed - vans his livelihood & he was despairing. Never had a customer hug me before lol - but it goes to show just how hard the ride is in some spots for the un-initiated. I honestly thought that bill & quote were nothing short of scandalous, as was the quality of the work they did do. Bloomin shocking tbh. Not surprising to me, but still shocking.

His "quote" for 4 new injectors alone was €2200.00 btw, plus labour at €90 per hour to fit. Wasn't a single thing wrong with any injector, just the wiring running them - the quote for a new turbo was €1250.00 plus labour to fit - which was listed (I shit you not) as "Remove engine for access.." and ran to another absolutely eye-watering figure. We won't even go into what the new DPF was going to cost - despite the original being absolutely fine but the signal/feed/earths being fried... I shake my head most days - but that today was special.. not hugely special as you will know, but still...
Had a jeep in yesterday with "The clutch gone!" from another dealers "Fit a new clutch/pressure plate!" - had a look, the slave cylinders leaking... I nipped up the pipe, added fluid & bled it out.. mint,,, Had one in today (you can't make this schidt up) with "Engine gone, 2 front electric windows down & stuck - replace engine with used & replace window motors/switches.." Came in on a wagon, got rolled off.. I'd been daft enough to trust & had ordered in a used engine yesterday evening... More fool me.. A fuse was blown because a wire was rubbing bare.. fecked in a fuse, taped up the rub & she's mint.. Rang & cancelled the engine... They sulked as they'd bothered palletising it... Is it just me or is the world going mental?

My advice is to get the intake manifold cleaned also replace the exhaust camshaft & injector washers when they are removed to change the camshaft.
This will avoid most problems in this engine down the line. And the camshaft will definitely be worn @ 120,000 kms

Hi peter, ive a cx5 that i replaced the turbo on because it broke the low pressure tutbo actutar and wrecked the fins with a fully reconditioned turbo from a reputable company 2 months. It has now broke the actutar agsin and wrecked the fins again. Everything was washed out and i did retrieve the broke bolt of the old actutar after repacing it the 1st time round. The turbo company is standing over it but have you seen this before in a short space of time.

I have done 20 or so timing chains to date & never needed to do this reset. I heard of it but thought it silly 😬😬
Then I needed to do it twice in one week 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
After renewing the timing chain the camshaft & crankshaft shaft correlation is slightly off (due to the old chain after stretching slightly)
Which triggers the P1336 range fault and needs this reset to recalibrate 🤔🤔

Hi Peter I have the same code on my Cx-5 but I have a knocking noise from the engine?
The engine is smooth and still runs without any problems apart from this code and the system inspection on the dash and the noise from the engine. When the engine is running if I remove the oil cap I can hear the metallic knocking noise more specially when I rev up, I only replaced the timing chain 30,000 miles ago? Anything common on these to cause that knocking noise?
I have removed the valve cover and the camshafts both look ok and there no stupidly loose rocker arms from what I can feel?
