Great videos!! Thank you for the effort you put into this. I recently bought a Hurricane Skimmer 116 and found it to be an amazing boat, A joy to paddle for what it is. I do miss a sit inside boat though, especially in the fall and winter when we do a lot of small water swamp and creek trips. I'm looking at one of the cheaper boats at Dicks and thought one of the Pelican boats might be good. One of the reasons I'd like another boat (can you have to many?) is because the material and methods used to make my hurricane, make doing any kind of paddling with rock contact a hazard. Luckily here in NC there are all kinds of slow moving rivers and lakes, but I'd like to do some class1 or 2 rapids if the time comes and I know a polyethylene boat is best for that. My question is about the poly. Is the poly used on a Pelican boat the same as in roto-molded boats, just the overall construction is different? If they are basically the same, then the pelican could be a best bet for that small water and rocky rivers I might encounter. Sorry for the long ramble. Thank you again for your very entertaining videos.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the great videos you put out. You're videos are part of what inspired me to buy a kayak and get out on the water. Your videos are so helpful. I look forward to every new one. So thank you!

I have a 9.5 Heritage Featherlight I bought new in 2006 for $375. I know the company doesn’t exist anymore but it seemed like a decent kayak at the time that fit my needs (I’m only 5,3”). I added a couple of rod holders, a cleat, and replaced the original bungy with new and thicker stuff but overall this kayak has held up well and the mesh quick dry seat is adjustable and super comfy. The keel is still ok but I might add a custom diy keel protector. Hope I can get another seventeen years out of it if I’m still paddling by then I’m 61 now.

It's like the Field and Stream would make a great base for about $100-200 worth of mods :) I have a pop rivet gun :o)... A bunch of pad eyes... and a better seat. I just made a GR8 paddle keeper from some 1/4" Bungee, 2 pad eyes and a bungee hook for my Pelican Spint 120XR. 1/4" Bungee is SO MUCH sturdier. This video just made my next kayak decision MUCH harder.... So many GR8 Recreational/Touting kayaks in the $900-1100 range.... Thanks for another great video

Great idea for a video Dan. Do we need to spend big money for the right kayak, or does research pay off? Does Seastream still make the 10.5 GT? Have you ever paddled the Perception Tribe 11.5? There are inexpensive kayaks out there that will do the job it was designed for very well. For guys like me that have to drag kayaks through some nasty portages, bringing an expensive kayak would be like bringing a Ferrari to a gravel pit. My next kayak is going to be the Perception Access 11.5. It paddles extremely well and is almost unbreakable to take the abuse of the Rocky Saugeen River. I could buy three Access 11.5 and paddles for the price of one Coosa X.

    Dan,
I have a Blade & I feel a need to defend the front storage system. I admit that you need to scooch forward pretty far to access the hatch, but I am still happy it's there. I keep things in it that I don't need access to often, such as a bailing sponge.
This brings us to the bungee dashboard area. I am personally really glad it is configured this way. I usually have an adult beverage in the cup holder molded into the seat so the bungee is a good place to keep an insulated water bottle. It really helps me stay hydrated during longer paddles.
I'm sure the Liquid Logic configuration is still superior, but the Field & Stream set up can be versatile in its own way.
