I retired in 2008 after 20 years of driving. Whenever I feel I should be back out there I look for Mike's videos. It puts me back in the saddle for a little while and allows me to stay sane. I miss the driving. Everywhere he goes, I've been, and a lot of the times in the same kind of weather on those same roads. He's a damn good driver and handles every situation exactly as I did. It makes me feel good knowing there are still good drivers out there!

I am a native of Denver. My grand parents are from Sterling. Some of the best drivers are from the Western States or from up North. You learn very fast what your truck, car, van can do in the snow, while it can be fun driving sideways, it's not fun driving sideways going down a cliff. Utah, Idaho, Colo, Wyoming, have some of the prettest driving canyons, the snow just flavors it. Love the West!

I have watched enough of your video's to make an assumption on your driving skills, you are an excellent driver!!! I wish all truck drivers knew how to drive like you know how to drive!! What wonderful roads we would have!! 🤣 Love your videos, and your conversations! I'm enjoying seeing the United States through your video's! We live in a beautiful country and I love seeing it all even if I have already been there, I cannot get enough of seeing this country! Thank you for taking us with you! You are the only truck driver I follow, I have tried a few others and they just don't have what you have!! God Bless! 🤗

I've never driven a truck, but I have rode with my dad on the truck many many times. He's a trucker of 42 years and I remember him driving in some of the worst weather ever, passing people left and right like he's not even driving on the same road as them. If they closed down the interstate because of bad weather he would always find a back road around. I remember him driving in complete white out conditions trying to make it home in time for Christmas. He's never been in an accident. One of the last true truckers out there. I just laugh when people say you need to slow down. Really just shows there experience level and how much they actually know about driving a truck. I know my dad would be trucking right along with ya in this weather.

Thank you, we so enjoy your videos. You Truckers are the captains of the open road, piloting the ships of commerce. My father was an over-the-road trucker in a different era, before I was born, back in the 1940s. He drove a 1946 Chevrolet tracker pulling a refrigerated trailer north to Canada and back to NYC.
My professional driving experiences have been in my native New York City; I drove box trucks to the airport with air-freight when I was young. Later I drove yellow taxis and limousines in the city and operated my own car for hire. I love the road and especially enjoy the magic of a snowy highway at night. May I suggest, or ask you to show your stops also; pulling into the truck plazas, etc.also: I liked the one where you showed making coffee, and your video set-up playing the Clint Eastwood movie. interested to see you picking up a trailer, connecting it to your rig. Your use of the "Jake" - or Jacob's Brake is new to me. Had not heard of this before your telling, so any added comments about that, like when you are using this and why, what it is, how it works, etc. would be of interest. Be safe -- thanks

Still, a little too fast for me my friend! In 94, one wk. after receiving my solo's permit.. going East on I-80 out of Utah w/ light snow over ice, I was coming down the last Sister around 7am, March 1st (my birthday) when all I knew to do was to up-shift and feather my tandems. I recall times both trailer and tractor jackknifing when only letting off the fuel; then, safely made it to the bottom, but doing over sixty. To this day.. the scarest time of my carear. Thanks Michael for another great video.

Wow. This is the first time I've seen a video of yours. I'd be heaven if I was there... Just listening to you and seeing how you're driving know there is a lot more going on. I'm guessing you know every inch of your truck and the limits. I'm always praying for blizzards to go out and drive around in my Subaru. You're right... Too slow off into the ditch you go... It has to be that sweet spot, a speed that allows you to stay on the gas and of course keep up with your nerves, but not too fast to crash. When you lose your nerve that's when it gets ugly. See what you've done? You have me craving a blizzard... Be safe & look out for crazy people. Great video..

I always enjoyed driving in those conditions bc usually you have the rd to yourself. I had to deliver a load of lumber to an Amish family in Pa one Monday morning. Got there Sunday night and slept in a store parking lot. Got up next morning and it had snowed ab 4-5”. Well I head out at daybreak and got to an intersection and had to turn off on a small 2 lane rd going down side of mountain. Time as I turned on road I realized no plow or vehicle had been down rd. I forgot what grade it was, but all I can remember is praying all the way down slipping and sliding. No guard rail and probably a half mile straight drop off. Scariest ride I ever took. Rd was only a couple of miles, but I tore a few holes in the seat with butthole grippin the seat squeezed up 😫😫😫. Also from the coast in South Carolina and had never drove in snow at that point. Pulled plenty of logs out the woods on miles of slippery wet clay rods though and that paid off.

tough conditions. few degrees colder and it would tighten right up and be not bad but when it's like that you have to find the "balance" speed where you have to drive fast enough not to slide off the crown of the road or banking in corners but slow enough to keep control. takes experience to find the sweet spot, well done.

He is too fast. He should be doing 30mph or below in those conditions and not passing people like that. He shouldn't be driving fast than the speed of traffic with a tractor-trailer. I probably would have been doing 25mph on that road. It's because people like him you all these constant new regulations. The fact that the traction control is coming on like that shows he is going too fast.

@@DarthZackTheFirstI - haha, I live in northern canada, bud. We get proper snow storms up here, we just don't drive like idiots in bad conditions, which is why we have less accidents and pileups caused by idiots who do drive like jack wagons in bad weather. We always ease it down with lowered visibility and reduced stopping distance, and for 25 years driving through some of the worst conditions and through the worst places you've ever seen and I've not had an accident. So no, you little cretin, it's not about being scared. It's about keeping the lives of people safe by not being a reckless douche bag. While he might come out of an accident just fine, the people in the car he crumples may not be so lucky. And driving like this idiot does it's not a matter of if he will be in an accident, but when.

All you with so much experience should know speed is all relevant to the driver. You may feel it’s to fast however it may not be for him or others. Driving through BC and Alberta this is the condition we face most the winter and i can tell you that many, many would pass him in these conditions and still cause no issue. Like i have said to many, stop pointing out what you believe are flaws in other drivers and worry about what you do. In no place in this video did he put anyone in danger. Keep it up sir and do what you do best, you 👍🏼

He's doing all the right stuff. Do you think an automated diverless truck can do this? Not hardly. Most inexperienced drivers can't manipulate torque much less speed like this driver. For those that haven't driven commercially, this is a cake walk. Northern truck drivers do this all the time. one note: when driving a car/pickup don't think you can keep up with a semi-truck in these conditions. He's got a lot more traction than you do.

@@frp1276 they sort if do already. Anti spin, anti lock and anti skid all are automated systems which handle slippery condition quite well. And those are already implemented and tried and tested. The basic problem of determining drivable area and how to handle it is yet to be fully solved, but tesla has come a very very long way there. This will be solved far sooner than people thing we are talking individual years not decades.

@@frp1276 i honestly dont think soon. It'll happen but not soon. Not in weather like this or conjested city streets. That's a while away trust me. But fair weather highway driving they can do soon I will say that. Basically anything a "steering wheel holder" can do, automated trucks should be able to mimmick in the real world soon. But stuff like this is insanely complex.
