I'm 68 YO , "Back in the day" in Boy Scouts we were cooking a dehydrated meal called Turkey Supreme. We added the right amount of water and proceeded to cook it for 20 minutes per instructions. It looked way too watery to us, so we added a second package to the pot...then a third. Right about the 15 minute mark it started to thicken up, a lot! It was getting hard to stir so we took it off the fire so as not to burn the bottom. We let it cool for about five minutes. We attempted to remove the spoon...it wouldn't budge, it started to bend! We had to cut the spoon out of the now solidified, but still hot, Turkey Supreme. We had to slice it up in order to serve it! Ever since, I may not measure exactly...but I'M not far off! I also always test a meal at home before taking it out in the field, especially if cooking for a group!
How hilarious and a good memory it's entertaining story. I bet you could write a book "How to entertain in front of a camp fire".
Can we just stop and appreciate Lukes editing skills
We experiencing that crazy high wind and snow, once again here in SW VA. No camping trip for me this weekend. Hit day 52 of chemo, and my immune system is probably too weak to do it. Best wishes to everyone for a great weekend.
I also went through chemo 4 years ago for breast cancer and have been in remission almost 3 years. Prayers for recovery from someone who knows what it's like.

My best to you and good luck
Thank you very much, i appreciate the kind comment.
Best of luck and care to you both❤
Thanks for adding Celcius and Meters in ;-)
Yes!
Thanks Luke!
I've got my grandson watching your videos he is 14 and he loves your storm camping trips. Keep up the amazing videos.
I'm an avid watcher of your channel for the exact reason you stated with Nortent. Your not for sale! Kudos Luke. Keep it real.
As a former film student at UCLA who made many student films I understand how time consuming it is to do what Luke does. He has many cuts it the 1-5 second range which means moving the camera constantly and editing is time consuming also. This guy is very energetic.
I’m a news videographer / editor , doing it for 34 years. He does great work but sometimes the jump cuts drive me a little insane.
He can also knock down the background wind with his editing software also, if it’s too loud. I understand the logistics of shooting video in wind if he doesn’t have a sturdy enough tripod and probably carrying a sandbag isn’t practical when backpacking.
Multiple cameras, don't move cameras just have more! It's what we did when I was in uni studying media design. It's extremely important when doing interviews for example.
@@brianb5397 I think that Like adds thunder noise in some of his videos. His “A Quiet Place Adventures” feature non stop thunder.
For me the Swedish outdoor channel Erik Normark has some of the most artistic videography and some of his work reminds me of the films of the Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.
@michellezevenaar too heavy for hiking and or mountaineering
Yayyy!! Finally I see a video where your tarp isn’t half a mile from your tent AND you have a fire so close & not out by another campsite!!! So proud of you!!!! Keep doing it!!!
That's the biggest problem I have with him, the tent should always be under the tarp. Tarp should be up rain shine or snow.
@@keonisan um.... he is testing the tent for leaks. So.... how would that go if the tent was underneath the tarp??? 🤔
ive been waiting to see a fire under the tarp
He has addressed this numerous times, he's testing the waterproofing of the tent. If the tent is waterproof it doesn't require a tarp.
I have never put my tent under a tarp. It's completely waterproof. Putting it under the tarp takes up too much of the tarp and defeats the purpose of putting it up in the 1st place.
Glad the tent didn't leak. I have a Coleman 5-person tent I've had for 10 years and it has never leaked even in a bad thunderstorm. The tarp setup was cool!
5 person ? That must be huge. Cheers
i would love to see a breakdown on how you pack your backpacks for different adventures. Love your content. Thank you Sir.
LOL - He is walking only a few hundred yards away from his truck. It's not like he is actually doing any real backpacking.
He does a breakdown on how he packs his bag in some of his other videos.
I love to sit un a tarp while it is raining. Close your eyes, and the rain sounds like bacon sizzling. IMO.
Luke, your videos always show up at the perfect time of the evening. I’m obsessed with rain sounds on a tent and it also cancels out my tinnitus. I’ve done a lot of camping in my life and I love being out in the elements. It’s such a good feeling when you know you’re well organised and tucked up warm in bed every night. I camped out in North Wales for 6 weeks last year and it felt like it’s exactly what I should be doing.
My favourite budget tent is the Coleman Darwin 2 man, and it’s the tent I used for 6 weeks. Not a single drop of water got into the tent despite the storms/heavy wind and rain, for most of the time that I was there.
Thank you for the effort in making these videos, I’m in Thailand most of the time because this is where my wife and son are, it’s like a concrete jungle, the pollution is bad and is super hot all year round. My life is torn between two things.. family and nature. In Thailand I have family and the UK I have nature. I’ve learnt to be patient in life and so I hope to take my family back to my home country one day.
Thank you once again, Luke. It’s really important to calm down in the evening while I’m away from nature, and this just about does it for me 😊❤
Great tent...Full night heavy rain in the Manistee National Forest..No leaks...I'm impressed...
Best outdoor channel by a country mile.
until you read the titles ...and see whats actually happening in the video... Thunderstorm my A.... and thats literally everytime he makes up these drama titles
No.
Always the same story... boring
the replies are just proof you cant make everyone happy. i enjoy the videos also!
TOGR is not even close to a real outdoor channel. I see no actual variety of outdoor skills displayed here. basically Luke walks a few hundred yards away from his vehicle and boils water. This whole video could have been shot in his mom's backyard.
Thank you for sharing your adventure today Luke
I am 85. Love watching you. I try to watch u everytime. Be cool sweetie. 😊
Great video I’m glad you didn’t burn the whole campsite down.
Yes what light is that Luke? Its really neat. Say HI to Susie for me. I love her adventures. ❤
Luke, I am with you. Like my coffee strong and awful. My wife brews high end expensive coffee for herself. I drink Nescafe Classico instant. It reminds me of my mother in laws coffee: strong and awful. Gosh I miss her. Lol
I usually drink freeze dried coffee as well. Juan Valdez. Walmart carries in for just over $5 per jar. Good cup of Joe.
LUKE, THANKS FOR SHARING ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO. I WILL BE KEEPING UPDATED ON THIS TENT. I ALWAYS LIKE A LITTLE EXTRA ROOM...
Too many of these channels are only eating dehydrated meals vs cooking. I find it relaxing and more entertaining when they cook.
I really like the ones where they cook but I think the idea is that he is reviewing the meals. I think a lot of them are sent by patrons.
Aussie here from Downunder never commented on your Vids before but I must say I really enjoy them love watching them with head phones on the sound effects are great and the videos
I’m glad you didn’t have bad weather along with it. This was a great camp and I really enjoyed it. You’ve got me drinking your mixed coffees. Especially the nutmeg. Just a great taste. I really do enjoy you and Susie. The two of you are perfect. I’ve been married to my best friend for almost 37 years. Made it thru 26 years with him being in the Army. It was a good life and we’ve been everywhere. He’s retired now and we are back home living on the farm I grew up on. Good ole West Tennessee. Enjoyed you
I've always been an insomniac. For some reason, rain on a tent knocks me out. Love it.
I used to camp with Boy Scouts and I think the best night of sleep I have ever had was in a hammock with a rain cover during a thunder storm. That was probably the best night of sleep I have ever had.
The shot 15 minutes in, where you can see the tent AND the gazebo... is awesome. Ya did a good job rigging up that gazebo.
Sitting here, getting a camping experience vicariously! And I’m not happy with dinner! It was a little watery! Lol
😂😂😂
I can't remember what video I watched but they provided some pretty compelling evidence that there really isn't a 4 season tent. Essentially no real difference between a three season tent v a 4 season tent. BTW the biscuits and gravy scene made me want to get some for breakfast. Perfect food for a rainy day.
There is a significant difference in construction/ materials, i.e., mesh, nylon, dynema. Layers. Support structures. Vent designs. Look at a Hilleberg 4 season tent vs a standard, any brand, 3 season tent.
Tell that to my cousin who brought a tent with one mesh window that wasn't closable on his tent while I brought a Sierra Designs Convert 2 for our Eclipse camping trip. He was so cold that he had to borrow my wool blanket the first night and said he was cold every other even with the wool blanket. I slept like a baby in my 4th season tent with a thermarest pad and One Tigris quilt in my underwear. It's amazing how much the right tent can make a difference.
Also when the rain started pouring my tent was used as the shelter for gear that no one wanted soaked. 😎
Hey Luke, I’m retired, I absolutely want to contribute to your journey. I love you, Man!
gay much?
Hi Luke from 🇨🇦. I have the same Naturhike chair. I got it for 1 reason, no plastic connection parts. On its 3 rd year and going strong. Cheers and great video. Your NO BS opinion actually MATTERS to me and I’m sure others.
A 100 yard backpacking trip. That's perfect for me. I'd also bring a few beers just to complete the experience. I see the stumpy "roll" table is becoming a regular part of your kit. I'd use it too.
Hello Luke, it was a great camp site, i really like when you set up your tent soon as you got there and your tarp wasn't too far away
Another good one Luke! Love the rain. My daughter lives in NE Kingdom VT; they got hit with blizzard conditions today; big wind, drifting, 10" or more, still snowing.
I love listening to thunderstorms
Luke, thank you for showing these trips, I love watching them it's so relaxing. I wish you and your wonderful family best wishes from this fan from Ireland 🇮🇪
Nothing better than sleeping in a tent in the rain. Even loved it when I was in the Military. Always got the best sleep.
Wow that is alot of rain,, we have rain coming here this weekend.. Love these kind of videos,, thank you Luke for sharing..
You have one of the most enlightening and professional channels on UA-cam. Your editing is superb and your knowledge of your trade exceeds the others I’ve watched. Keep up the good work! 👏👏
Oh boy …another light rain camp lol .
I appreciate watching various ways to set up tarps. Pitching it so the smoke blows away is so clever. Something I'll remember ext time I set one up.
Luke, I love your channel. Most of your adventures are short duration and you demonstrate that you don't have to make a big production our to getting out and enjoying a night or two of camping and solitude. Just pack up and get out there and enjoy. Take care.
Luke, tell us more stories. Be careful out there, and have a great spring!!
Because of your terrific review, I went ahead and purchased that same exact tent. I'm looking forward to trying it out soon. Thanks for the excellent videos! ⛺ 🔥
I am solo camping for the first time . I have bought everything based on your outdoor gear review!
Love these, I hope the tent doesn't leak looks like a nice tent good and roomy, Your set ups are always helpful to get you out of the elements I love the sound of the rain helps me fall asleep no problem while camping. I am so very happy the tent didnt leak thanks so much for the review and your time spend filming.
I am a total B&G snob........Peak B&G is outrageously good. Not just for freeze dried, just in general. LOVE that stuff.
I can barely get my tarp to stay up with proper tarp poles; if I tried to set it up with broken tree limbs like that it’d be a ground sheet in about 10 minutes😂
Mad skills, sir. Mad skills. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wordwalker3--You made my day! That's so funny, it really cracked me up!😂😂 I'm glad you didn't make that mistake again!
I'm so envious about all that rain and snow.
Tubi is free, no reason to knock it Luke.
Great video Luke. Thank you for taking me along.
I just bought this tent because of your excellent review.
Thanks again Mr. Luke👍
This tent looks nice, gr8 video as usual Luke. Just ordered the telescopic lantern, tripo and butane stove for my outdoors channel from the descriptions
I wish I could buy the flip out knife(s) you use. But I live in New York State.
Folks, don’t take your freedoms for granted.
Tubi is awesome 😎
@the outdoor gear review that tent looks small lol❤ u
Like the tent. We will probably get one. Thx Lucas!
Big vestibules and big tarps are worth their weight in gold when you’re out there.
I always measure dude. If I'm hungry I don't want to have to cope with a meal I screwed up. I want to enjoy it the way it should be.
I love Garmin watches. This is my second watch and for me it's all I need. It's an instinct 2x solar. If I turn off my phone's Bluetooth I never have to charge it. But it can still tell me weather temp elevation and it will track my location so I can never get lost.
Absolutely measure or get as close as possible. It does make for a better meal
My sentiments!
My man that ain’t no biscuits & gravy , that’s biscuits & soup 😂
It still looked delicious though.
@@glenystranter6423no it didn’t
Just looks like a full up sick bag
Chicken dumpling soup is a thing. I think that would be pork flavored dumplings
@@glenystranter6423 if you think a barf bag looks delicious I’d hate to see what your wife cooks for dinner 😂
I'm 80 I used camp alot the way you do just a tarp and rope or a two man tent I had . I really enjoy your channel . Bring back the good old days,👍👍👍
If you make oatmeal in the packets, it has a line printed on the outside. You put the oatmeal in the bowl and put water inside the packet up to that line. It’s the perfect amount, no measuring cup needed. Maybe your meal is the same? Check for a water fill line.
He doesn't want them close, because he likes to hike to his campsite.!❤ 30:30 30:32
Well Luke, you can my snow! Here in Ottawa we are forecast for up to 20cm today.
I think maximum weight for a tent is about 5 lbs when used for backpacking. I used to carry a six pound tent that I liked quite a bit. The longest I took it was 11 miles. I could have cut some weight with my cook kit and food, plus I was carrying food for 2 people. I was beat when I got there. Slept great.
Looked like an awesome night out!! Thanks!
Awesome stuff Luke, the rain on the tarp was putting me to sleep, maybe I need your coffee recipe to punch me in the face
I especially liked that you used wood poles you found nearby instead of store bought poles.
I measure the water that I mix in with a freeze dried meal - always. I can always add a little more if I wish.
I've read many replies, nearly all say "they Measure" water before pouring into the foil pouch & the freeze dried meal to rehydrate.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
How do you measure water? That adds 2 more pours
@@missingremote4388 I have a 12oz Hydrapak Skyflask which I normally carry empty & have written the number of oz levels on the exterior with permanent black marker. The Skyflask, when empty is collapsed & takes up little space.
I also have tented my 450ml Titanium cup & written the number of oz at several dent marks with black marker.
At one time I carried a small 4oz collapsible cup.
Peak Refuel are normally the Freeze Dried Meal I have & they require very little water unlike most other brands of Freeze-Dried Meals.
FWIW, I carry a 3L Hydrapak bladder with a slider closure/drink tube inside my backpack instead of so-called "Smart" water bottles in a side pocket. The "Blaster" bite valve designed & engineered by Hydrapak has a higher flow rate & doesn't leak.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Have been a long time watcher of this channel love the content … agenda free!! Thank you 🎉
I just want to say, Thank you for always giving us all an unbiased and honest review of all the products you use. With so many choices it can be challenging at times to make an informed decision. Strength and Honor
this channel has some kind of david lynch vibe to it that is just spot-on.
When you add too much water...Add some dehydrated onions and dehydrated Cheese. And it' s back on track.
Love the camping spot you picked there. Its one I would pick
Thanks for including the measurement conversions, it is very useful. great video as always
Luke, you have to watch the ______ of bad B grade movies. The Legend of Boggy Creek; a docu-drama. The town that dreaded sundown (original 1976) and the Creature from Black Lake (same region, director, and period). Entertainment at it's finest.
Looks like a winning tent, quality, value, design. Great review.
I am starting to love that pole light you are using. Seems like you are costing me money every video I watch, I have to go buy something! 😊
Another good video as always Kenny! Thank you for your time putting it together for us! Take care!
Yes, i'm always using the reccomended amount of water with freeze dried meals. No less, no more. About the weather overhere in 🇧🇪 we have +25°C in the forecast for saturday but next week it will drop to +10°C with more rain on it's way. So i'm out for camping coming weekend. 👌👍
That tent set up looks really neat.
Love your videos bro. Keep up the good work ✌️
I say i like my coffee strong and black like my heart and soul 😂
Another great video Luke. Didn't want to see it end. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for a honest relaxing video.
Thanks again for another great video. I find it interesting to watch the numbers of viewers climbing during the video. It goes to prove how popular your UA-cam channel is. Thanks again Luke for sharing your adventure.
Thank you for sharing this adventure! I love the ones you do on Lone Wolf mountain - they are the best! Stay safe and take care!
Hi Luke! I'm enjoying as always and I noticed how relaxed you are in this one. From your demeanor, things must be going pretty good. That's awesome!
We car-camped a ross the USA several times. Always set up tent next to the car. Mostly because there was nowhere to put it at the camp sites we pulled into.
Hey Luke I really enjoy your adventures and positive attitude hope you and your family are doing well stay safe out there
Yes...I have been re-watching classic TV series from my childhood on Tubi.
Music at the end was badass! Liked that one.
James over on Join Me Outdoors took the Nortent Vern 2 wild camping on Dartmoor for what it's worth...but I even guess our 4th season in the UK isn't exactly extreme! 🤣
One of your best adventures to date !
Love your channel. I’m addicted because I can’t wait for. a new one.
You sure do like those biscuits and gravy beyond measure!
Excellent video! Great tent all around.❤❤
That is a good size tent! Love the tarp set up.
Great video once again Luke !
Another great video. Love going camping with you.
Im Very thorough with my gear, and I actually bring a measuring cup and measure my water. Lol. Great review, enjoyed as always.
"I have improved this jacket 1million percent" the biggest glowup on a self done job i think luke has ever done, don't get me wrong its a very good job i just found that funny
