The aircraft has a G1000 with vertical planning software, also has speed brakes , ( I’ve has 3 Malibu’s including a 2014 and 2 Meridians ) the aircraft equipment and avionics are available to plan this descent and speed ,with the speed brakes one can slow very quickly and descend , wonder if he deployed the speed brakes & flaps and did not retract on the go around

Thank you for this review! Another GA accident that did not need to happen.

Since I know how stupid I can be, I leave the landing gear down when staying in a pattern. If doing touch-and-goes, I run my fingers over the flap handle, making sure there is a horizontal blade-shaped switch there, rather than a wheel, before operating it.

Hey Max, my brother in law has this Malibu and it has “spoiler” to slow and drop altitude. Could it be that this aircraft also had this and the pilot failed to retract it when attempting the go around. Don’t think you can climb with it deployed. Love the program.

I also replayed the flight on FlySto. I’m wondering if the plane lost power as it passed over the runway. A witness heard rattling as it passed overhead. I don’t see how an experienced pilot could let the airspeed get so low. I’m wondering if he was trying to get the engine running again instead of setting it down in a field. Lots of pilots die trying to save the plane instead of themselves.

Why are we encouraging the “10 mile final”?

Easy solution…. Turn off ADSB. Deland is class G, not required

I am amazed that most of my younger students are unable to do ANY simple math in their heads. School system failure.
