Leon F. "Lee" Ellis (born October 9, 1943) is a retired United States Air Force colonel, award-winning author, speaker, and consultant.[1] Ellis gained notoriety when, as a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War, he was shot down, captured, and spent 5+1⁄2 years as a prisoner of war in Hanoi and surrounding areas with former presidential candidate and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and others.[2] His capture occurred on November 7, 1967, and he was released on March 14, 1973.[3] He was one of the youngest, junior members in the camps.[2] Ellis is an international speaker and consultant on the subjects of leadership and human performance.
Coming from a growing up in a military family and background to where I am now I have never learned so much about leadership until listening to the podcasts here. I've been through on the job training and these videos have really helped me understand. Thank you Jocko for what you're doing keep up the great work!
My last assignment in the USAF was at Mountain Home AFB, known as the 366 Gunfighters. Col Ellis and Lance Sijan were assigned to that unit in Vietnam. Thank you for talking about Lance P. Sijan. My last year on active duty I was nominated for the Lance P. Sijan award for Leadership. It was an honor to be recognized in the honor of such a great man and the men that he served with.
"Scaled victories." Love it.
So many valuable and powerful lessons to be drawn from this story.
Leading with Honor! Col Lee Ellis. I'm honored to have met him again today.
Awesome. Lee was my PAS at UGA. I owe my USAF career largely due to his guidance and leadership. One of my heros.
GO DAWGS
Go dawgs and run Herschel run
Wow awesome.
Go DAWGS! Class of ‘99.

I hope you have heard of SOGcast then
Vietnam podcast episodes are much appreciated
Incredible interview.
Jocko, I wish so many such heroes were still around to sit down with you. Major General Robert Olds comes to mind.
I just met him today. Great down to earth man. With almost a copious amount of humility and wisdom
Thank you for your service Leon..you and your fellow service men and woman are heros!! God bless you and family... these men are the heros..
These podcasts are so humbling, so informative, so inspirational and I don't have the words to express my gratitude, to everyone

Thank you so much sir for your sacrifice and service! We cherish you guys for all that we are thankful you made it out with the life you are living!
His unit got rid of civilians. They weren't even fighting the people who attacked us. They protected the people who attacked us.
Vietnam guys make the best guests, or maybe it was just the constellation of guys that have been on were so awesome that it seems that way but man this one was great once again.
Great podcast.Such valor these men displayed under the most arduous of circumstances..God Bless you all!
WHAAAAGWAAANNNN
Love the forest gump type of cadence in his voice very southern !
Awesome show guys. Thanks again. We appreciate everything 👍
My wife’s grandfather is a Purple Heart Coast Guard Veteran from Vietnam, would be amazing if he could tell his story.
My grandfather was robin olds, he died when i was a child and i never actually knew much about him just that he had been a pilot. Watching those dogfights shows though helped a bit and watching these pilots really gives me a great look at what being a pilot back then meant. I never would have been able to be one, I'm too big, bit it's still really cool.
I just made a comment about how some of what Lee was saying about the ineptness of the Leaders and Washington Politicians along with the "Wiz Kids" sounded very much like what your Grandfather the Great Gen Olds said on several occasions. I have read a lot about your Grandfather.. I probably know more about him than any retired enlisted Marine ever! LOL... Not sure if you have seen it or not but Ward Carroll (thats the name of his youtube channel) Ill link it here ua-cam.com/video/kWMYICWrFuw/v-deo.html
has a great video about Gen Olds. My Daughter is an Air Force Tech Sgt and has written a paper on Robin Olds for a Non Commissioned Officer's course.
More pilots please these guys are my hero’s and this is the closest I can get to having a conversion with them myself
When I was a kid I read When Hell Was In Session,Jeremiah Denton’s account of the hanoi hilton, and I thought those pow’s were the bravest men of all time ,the torture they endured and their ability to communicate through the walls by tapping was amazing
Outstanding podcast
Incredible! Much emotion was stirred within me listening to this story. Thank you
I love it when they say i wasn't such a stud!!!! What a BS!!!!! When i was in 5th grade i was already competing in State Championship!!!!!! After that it just got better!!!!! Idk if it was hate of school or i just loved 2 do it 🎉🎉🎉
I remember when I was on the running team 1k times 10!!!! And we went to county championship!!!!! We got 9th of 10th place!!!!!!! But it was a blast!!!!!!!
_Dobbins AFB_ … that brings back memories. I worked at the _Lockheed-Martin_ plant on that base. I was testing software for the _C-130J_ at the same time they were developing the _F-22 Raptor_ in the same building and had the privilege of witnessing the *_first flight_* of the Raptor while I was there.
Man got shot down over Vietnam, was taken POW for FIVE AND A HALF FUCKING YEARS, and when he finally got released, did he retire from the Air Force? Nope! He stayed in for many years more, finally attaining the rank of Colonel. What a mad man
GOD BLESS ALL VIETNAM VETERANS.
MY MENTORS , MY HEROS.
HAPPY MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY AND HAPPY VETERANS DAY.
Thanks for all the free content, knowledge and inspiration through the darkest and most painful of times in my life to keep going. And remind me that my problems aren't nearly as bad as they seem. @jockopodcast
Love the Vietnam stories
How the mind works and the small but impactful way these brave men made light of their horrific imprisonment. “Scaled Victories!” Control what you can to stay positive . Strong willed minds and amazing men.
We make a few things, custom leather belts. Still have alot to learn in leather tooling. Got my industrial stitching machine,I have no idea what I'll be good at. I wear many hats. My friend that taught me how to make belts was a cowboy biker Vietnam Veteran. I really enjoyed the stories & interview.
Hearing the telegram sent a chill thru me. And a mix of emotions. Then realizing that was him, alive(!), next to you? OMG. A miracle. Now, I'll listen to the rest. 💓
Another pod cast for my cod grind tonight!
I do the same thing 😂
Your mother is sleeping keep it down please
Just incredible to hear first hand from this amazing leader, thank you for your service sir! Hand salute 🫡!

What a great pod cast, I already ordered Leading with Honor.
5.5 years..... what an OG
Seconds on the clock we are here.
their assembly looks like the Scooby-Doo meets the globe trotters special
Good evening Echo
Dudes tuff as nails. CHECK.
Damn brother that letter at the beginning was a story on its own... thank you all for all you do and your time away from your loved ones for me and mine
Good evening from Maine
Listened to this while wearing Origin jeans, sweatshirt, and my brand new boots I got today.
I remember i managed to get 2 get to 10 k times 10 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I can't believe that guy asked, what are negative G's 🤣🙈
Man has a heart of gold
Can't imagine how that experience would feel, huge credit for staying loyal and staying alive, very very clever people, all of them
Knowing the way broadly does not mean knowing in general, knowing the way broadly means you know everything about it... the full breadth. When you know a lot about something, you then start seeing instances of it in all that you do... like Mr. Miyagi telling Daniel to paint the fence.
Even though i like 2 talk shit i do like your podcasts🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
4 real!!!!!
Im only 27 min in and much of what he has said echo's what Gen Robin Olds complained about for years... Im really hoping he has a story about him.
Welcome home Colonel Ellis.
Jesus. He was in the same class as Lance Sajin?? For those of you who’ve never heard of Lance, I highly recommend you look up his story. Just un friggin believable.
Sorry but that leadership book is just re-done as of many so called books!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
*Jocko Willink is the Reluctant Leader we need.*
.....We know you've done enough, but your Nation needs you.
🇺🇸 *2024* 🦅
Amazing story
EPIC!
Another amazing podcast. Is this man related to the same Lee Ellis that's a part of seek one?
I dont believe in the use of torture for any reason. Its the absolute worst thing you can do to another human being.
I was very disappointed to learn that the US did the same thing in Guantanamo. I found that completely unacceptable.
Amazing
buy my book, buy my energy drink, buy my jeans buy my... BRO GTFO lol we're already watching your podcast chill
Listened to all this podcast. This guys story in Vietnam albeit is horrific. Many Vietnamese civilians were wiped, war crimes were committed, the use of agent orange etc was deplorable.
The US have a history of creativity and fighting wars that had nothing to do with them. War is young men dying and old men talking, it should say, 'old men profiting'. Just like this podcast is trying to do on all fronts.
Good morning Jacko podcast, please forgive the off-topic question, but have you covered before the mission the men and me by Peter blabber and if so which number podcast? Thank you
How old is this man!? He barely looks 50.
Fighter pilot. Superior genetics in every way.
FINALLY!!!
Let’s go
Robin Olds is the face of Fighter Jet Pilot's !.....John who ?

not able to sleep all night.....dont want to be here
soon as i saw that name, i recognized it, before you even said, .....
Whats scarry ..is person has nothing yo lose..
I've just visited Hoa Lo prison (what remains of it, kept as a museum). As a former military pilot (same name, no relation!) the section on 1964-1972 is a grotesque distortion of what actually occurred there. The museum is quick to highlight the horrific treatment of the original inmates (Vietnamese political prisoners of the French), but shamelessly flips and represents US POW treatment as near idyllic....smiles, Christmas decorations, basketball etc. Zero mention or detail of the torture or privation that actually occurred.
Having just re-listened to this postcast before I went in, the difference between how POW treatment is depicted vs reality is jarring and infuriating.
them bloody bombs
it was like a setup, with the MIC disgusting.
What's the snickering about?
Where's Echo?
Jocko
Before watching, what happened to Echo???
Ok, he's there hiding until the end... Much as Jocko is cool and all, Echo is the reason I keep watching.
The Rasmus - in the shadows. No sleep
No sleep until I'm done with finding the answer
Won't stop
Won't stop before I find a cure for this cancer
Sometimes I feel like going down I'm so disconnected
Somehow I know that I am haunted to be wanted
I've been watching, I've been waiting
In the shadows for my time
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrow's all my life
In the shadows
In the shadows
They say that I must learn to kill before I can feel safe
But I, I'd rather kill myself than turn into their slave
Sometimes I feel that I should go and play with the thunder
Somehow I just don't want to stay and wait for a wonder
I've been watching, I've been waiting
In the shadows for my time
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrow all my life
Lately, I've been walking, walking in circles
Watching, waiting for something
Feel me, touch me, heal me
Come take me higher
I've been watching, I've been waiting
In the shadows for my time
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrow all my life
I've been watching, I've been waiting
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrow
Oh oh
Oh oh
In the shadows
Oh oh
Oh oh
In the shadows
I've been waiting
Rob I thought u were pro mental health but I believe watching the view will cause the opposite effect to mental health
Great interview...but Glorifying Songbird McCain? 1:30-ish into the video
So you somehow believe you know more of John McCain’s experience and character than his fellow POW? Were you there with him with broken bones never properly reset, getting tortured for 5-1/2 years? Tell us your story hero.
Wow hi Lee still looking like a spring chicken.
ua-cam.com/video/ASzhmXCzoWg/v-deo.html
Don’t laugh you weren’t in Vietnam. Totally different from what you went through.
You need to read into the mouth of the cat.
3 page biography you say?
Here's 3 pages of pornographic and obscene hand drawn images.
yep captured...
Dublin is pure rubbish for takeaways come to cork and you’ll see a huge difference i struggle to find a bad takeaway in cork in Dublin I rather go to Burger King or get a deli roll instead of paying for rubbish
Bible says in that day “they will beat their swords into plow shares and they shall learn war no more” . . . In the Book of Enoch it was the fallen angels that taught war and abortion . . . 🙏💯🔥🔥🔥
Think thier most dangerious ..
pow...wop...
Ask him how many genders there are lol
💪🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸

I happened to come across Jocko's talk with Russel Brand on the Ukraine war. The level of cognitive dissonance Jocko displayed was mind-boggling. I can understand why, of course...
Explain or troll.
@@alastor8091 Here's a suggestion. First, look it up, it's not hard. Secondly, see how the Ukraine war started (that might take a little time). After you do that you can then conclude if what I said was inaccurate. I am not going to do the leg work for you. Cheers
@@orthochristos you're the one making the accusations. Explain yourself.
@@alastor8091 Not an accusation, just an observation based on factual data. Do your own research. Are too lazy to do that?
@@orthochristos it is an accusation. An accusation without proof.
Your videos keep coming up and I don't want them. UA-cam needs a block. Nothing against you, but anyone UA-cam recommends this much I have zero interest in watching.
another podcast....
yep ellis crow
I apologize didn’t listen the whole way through
Today they have so much more shit. Back in the day you would never have made it through Vietnam. Stud
