Best practices to scan houses?, any options to capture standard resolution and switch to closeups to increase definition/quality of some specfic areas of the exterior of a house? Thanks for taking the time to teach us!
Actually, the best way to scan a house with 3DGS is to record video using your phone's camera app with ultra-wide angle lens, this way it will capture more details in each frame.

can you use 3DGS tech and combine it with the 3d mesh scanning to remove the issues of blurry textures and bad 3d models? is there a way this can be used to increase the quality of the 3d meshes that get produced? maybe better for 3d printing?
Use 3DGS to increase mesh quality could be hard. 3DGS has a completely different nature from 3D mesh. And it's not meant to replace or improve 3D mesh quality unfortunately, but rather explore a new way of rending 3D models without 3D meshes :(

Thank you :) 3DGS for Unity support is on our radar, but unfortunately our team doesn't have much experience in developing for Unity, so when we are more financially mature in the soon future, we will expand the team to support Unity features :)

Haha, it absolutely seems to be the future of 3D. At this moment, there are plug-ins for Unreal Engine and Blender, but they are not perfect. Question: why do we need the plugin if we can import it without the plugin?
Good question! I assume you were referring to the PLY format, correct? Even though you can import PLY directly into unreal engine, it's not the same as 3D Gaussian Splatting's PLY. It has way more information embedded. So to make sure UE is capable of reading all these extra information from 3DGS's PLY, we need to develop a plugin for that

@@sergeantrecker9737 I know it's not common to see a 3D scanner app charge money for 3DGS whereas there are other free options, right? :P We see our 3DGS feature as a benefit to KIRI Engine Pro users to add extra values to our subscription model. It's true that if you only seek for the 3DGS, there are other free options, but if in case you need our infamous PBR, Quad Retopo, Featureless Obejct Scan using Neural Surface Reconstruction, and many other useful features, KIRI Engine Pro with an extra 3DGS feature might be you one-stop shop for a very low cost :)

is it possible to capture 3d model of a historic object behind the glass cover? which mode in the program is suitable for this purpose?
Yes, we've tried to do something similar, and it worked quite well. Our photo scan is good for that, just make sure when you take photos, there are no glares from the glass
How do we download the splats for importing into 3D apps? All I can see is a share option.
Unfortunately in the first 3DGS beta version, we can't export it to other places. It will be available in the next beta update. Stay tuned :D

Hey NewtonInDaHouse :) Thanks for the comment. 3DGS needs a significant amount of computing power, therefore we didn't include this feature in the free version, unfortunately :( We are planning on a trial mode before everyone have to make a purchase, but this feature is still being planned out, we won't have it anytime soon. Hi there! Although we try to make Android version equally good, I have to admit iPhone does have better cameras in terms of 3D scanning. So, if you have a choice, I'd recommend using an iPhone :)

Great question Alex! At this moment, the first beta version doesn't support 3DGS export, unfortunately :( But you will be able to export the 3DGS files very soon in the next update :D Stay tuned

hey Saturn! It's actually not. I know what you think, PLY is for point cloud, it's useless unless it has a mesh format such as OBJ, right? But this is the cool thing about 3DGS, you can't think it as a traditional explicit representation, there's so much more information you can get from the 3DGS PLY, there are already addons that can render 3DGS PLY on blender or Unreal Engine.

Heyyyy, technically speaking you are right, it is not strictly machine learning, but it uses machine learning techniques to train and improve rendering quality :) So, to make sure no one's brain is exploding, I just simply referred to this method as machine learning :)

Hi! I'm so sorry to hear this. I really think technology is the key to making the world a little cooler for all mankind. If you think about the 3D scanning 5 years ago, it's like 3000 dollars to buy a piece of equipment. But now, with our BF sales, it's 2.29 a month. While we are working hard toward making 3D scanning affordable to everyone, unfortunately, we do need to have a business model so our company can survive and continue to improve the technology. Having said that, could you please send me an email at jack.w@kiri-innov.com? The least I can do is to help you figure out something so you get to try our new techs :D
