Always loved Blondie and respected Debbie's talent. But Martha's just as hot and very few female lead singers can match Martha's vocal range. SO underrated as was the band. Have to listen to this every now and then & get my Martha fix
In 1981 I was into hard rock bands like led zeppelin pink Floyd etc . But secretly I was also listening to to post punk or new wave music that I thought had great stuff to offer and the motels are no exception . Great band , like many before and after them.
Damn She is good I just found this but I heard of them in the 80's but never gave a listen but These guys play real music unlike the garbage of music 2017's!
watched this on BBC2 when its was broadcast, must have been 16/17. Not really being my thing at time but found my self buying the single and LP - haven't heard this for band for many a year so enjoyed this
Gran Banda The Motels.. Con todo respeto debería remasterizar la Imagen HD y Sonido full concierto la gran calidad músico son para nuevas generaciones, infinidad bandas y exponentes de la música 60, 70, 80 etc..🇨🇱🇨🇱. Gracias.. Saludos.
As Martha introduced the band after performing "Total Control", when she introduced Tim McGovern (her boyfriend of the time) as "this little sexy devil here" (starting @ 20:46) and was touching his shirt, he didn't look too happy about it. Did anyone else notice that?
They were pretty much broke up by this point. She wrote a song called "Shneekin" about Tim's fooling around on her. Why he did that I have no clue. Ain't no way I would have done her wrong lol
Hi beautiful one how, are you and your members are doing? I have a feeling that you and your members had performed at Austin city limits over in Austin Texas. The reason I have that feeling is because i'm a born Texan. If y'all ever tour the state of Texas I hope one day that y'all perform in the west part of the state over in Midland at the Wagner noal's art performance center and, if it happens I will buy a ticket to the show.
I remember watching this at the time, great band.
just saw motels perform a few days ago, interesting to see them back when they were young
Absolutely incredible. Martha is the definition of charisma. They were on path to greatness, but got sidelined by success.
Great version of Closets & Bullets from the under rated first album!
Underrated. Good songs, good memories.
Martha Davis is one of the great female vocalists of all time. This video is a perfect example. Total control, emotive and pitch perfect. Fantastic.
Word.
and she sings with a teardrop in her voice, like phil lynott and tammy wynette.
I recall really enjoying Martha singing amongst the audience when it was first broadcast. Great to see this here!
I love the Motels, they were something special!

smoking while singing bad ass
We now now welcome to the jungle gar got there inspo from .
Gwen Stefani must have been heavily inspired by Martha.
Gwen totally copied Martha's style.
Freuderick Frankenstein Actually, Gwen Stefani copied Louise Rény of One 2 One, just listen to (There Was A Time) 1986
Stefani also shamelessly emulated Annabella Lwin of Bow Wow Wow.
I agree I think both are good I would love to hear Gwen do the song Envy
History! Where was this?
+NEntv58 If its Rock goes to college its probably Hatfield Polytechnic
+Steve O University of Bradford.
+jayrox40 I see that now, they have the whole list on wiki, thanks.
Terry Bozio on drums such a a treat
Not Terry Bozzio
My mistake Terry played for Missing Persons
Tim McGovern. Motels>Burning Sensations>Knucklehead
Seems to me Gwen Stefani ripped off her singing style quite a bit.
She looks a bit like Joan Jett
