I lived there for about 3 months a few years back. La Olla is definitely overrated. The places I loved the most to eat were the stands in the park on market day. Some dude from Argentina had steaks that were unbelievable. That is where I got introduce to leche de coco, which is still my fave beverage. I love everything about that city.

Another super fantastic video immersed in food, art and steeped in Mexico's culture. Thank you as always for your generosity in sharing your journey with us.
I have been living in Oaxaca City (lived in five locations and chose Centro as my favorite) for six months now and it is so fun to re-watch your Oaxaca videos. You do an amazing job! I felt a little sad at how much Jalatlaco has become elbow to elbow with Tourists, some of the art has been destroyed or is just gone, with ugly graffiti in its place, and a few of the restaurants you featured are gone. Jalatlaco is always super crowded anymore with tons of people Air BnB-ing their homes and properties, and IMO is not nearly as charming as it used to be. It is refreshing to see this video of quieter days. I stayed next to Jalatlaco for my very first experience in Oaxaca. It is indeed a super charming Colonia. I am hopeful that the city will get quieter once the tourist season ebbs a bit. This video was extremely well done and most enjoyable.
That is so kind of you Jan! That’s exactly how we want you to feel. Collecting Countries is always more fun with friends! Stay tuned for more fun adventures with us!
I think this was one of my favorite videos you two have made. What a wonderful neighborhood! I will definitely be exploring there when we return. The muralist is amazing! I love his art! How long did you stay in Oaxaca City? Thanks for sharing all of this with us. You two are the best!
Hey Cathy! Thank you so much for your kind words! We were there for 7 weeks! It’s the longest time we have ever spent in one place - so that says a lot! Your support means so much to us. Can’t wait to get back there too!
I love checking out all the barrios with you both! More please - thanks! Something I noticed when we were in Jardin El Llano - the base of the Juarez statue has the same Zapotec pattern as the prehispanic buildings in Mitla. I respect how they acknowledge his indigenous roots (and I think that statue went up in 1905). Another note - that brown salsa is "salsa macha". We make our own at home here in Vancouver - although we probably pay ten times what you would in Oaxaca for the dried chilies (guajillo, arbor, etc). Look up recipes on line. It is easy and excellent - especially on pizza!
I loved going on the free walking tour and learning all about Benito Juarez and his roots and all that he accomplished, it was very inspiring. We tried going to Mitla but it was closed due to COVID -hope to go back some day. Ooo 👍 salsa macha! Yes, thank you for reminding us - have you eaten at Boulenc? I love how they bring it out to you for every meal! We need make our own too, great idea. Thank you so much for your wonderful words! Appreciate you for watching and commenting.
@@TheCountryCollectors Yes - we loved Boulenc. But we really got addicted to salsa macha during our stays in Puerto Escondido at the pizza restaurants along the Rinconada. It is easy to make (if you have a blender) .. we also add toasted pumpkin seeds. Delicious!
It’s great to budget your spend. I feel like living down in Mexico you feel like your on vacation and when I am on vacation down south. I spend like and don’t care lol.

No worries! Glad that we could help. It’s one of our favorite neighborhoods in the area so definitely check it out if you have the chance. The art is just amazing! Safe travels to you as well! When are you thinking of going?

🙏 thank you! We love the food parts to haha! The mezcal was cannabis infused - cbd. The flavor profile was very interesting, it was really good. Bouler said the bubbles, also called the pearls of the mezcal, tell you what percentage of alcohol it is. I believe it was around 40% which is normal for mezcal. He also designed the masks - multi-talented man! Thanks for your support!
What a wonderful video! Beautifully shot, informative, and featuring a delightful couple. Thank you for this. I'm looking for a place to winter and I think you just sold me on Jalatlaco! Liked and subscribed. =)
Hey thanks so much for the compliments! Yes, it is a fantastic spot. There is so much to see and do in the city, you will never get bored! If you like art- it’s the spot for you.
This Jalatlaco Tour is so pertinent and fortunate, the neighborhood is a perfect example of what Oaxaca City is made of: art, culture and history. Many beautiful places in Mexico but Oaxaca City and State are representative of originals’s fight against the cultural extirpating. Contributions from Dominicos were important to preserve part of this living and transforming culture. And your so valuable contribution guys as well!
We stayed in that neighborhood exactly one year ago for Dia de Muertos. We stayed at city Centro hotel which is one of the only hotels there. They actually had quite a bit of action at night with the local parades since the official ones had been canceled due to Covid. We loved that little neighborhood.
@@TheCountryCollectors We probably crossed paths. We stayed from October 31 to November 3rd then drove down the mountain to Huatulco. We love all of your Mexico video’s. You do a great job. Planning on semi retirement on the Oaxacan coast 😀
Nice video, love the choice of music throughout the video, the food intro, the stuffed animal nightmare store. We walked through Jalatlaco when we were there but didn't know it. Ive always wondered how blind people find the Braille signs on walls. Love the time lapse on the painting and the artists shop.
I know, I am sure a lot of travelers walk through it not knowing it is a different barrio. We wouldn't have known unless we went on the street art bike tour. Thanks so much for experiencing this with us. We appreciate you!
It is very relaxing and beautiful! The cost of living varies based on what you want and where you want to live. We were paying 600$ per month for a full apt. Food is affordable. We have lots of videos about that too! Thanks for watching!
I heard that the Wolkswagen factory is in Puebla, no? At least my husband’s 2019 Jetta came from Puebla 🤩 Oaxaca is absolutely beautiful, we are thinking of going this year. Last time I visited my dad’s pueblo in the Sierra Mixteca in 2011. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Adam. I am just rewatching some older videos before our trip to Oaxaca and wondered for a point reference where the first women's bar is and also the pedestrian road. What would be a good start point. Love the Thailand videos.
Hey! I’ll have to take a look. I’m not 100% sure what part you’re talking about. Could you be more specific? Thank you! I would love to help however I can!
Going there in December 2021, can't wait. Wish to see you guys there 🙏🏼. And another recommendation for you CC, visit Veracruz such a beautiful state. Drink a cup of café or like Heidi loves the frappé, in Cordoba (the best Coffee in México) and Visit Orizaba Pueblo Magico. And en el Puerto de Veracruz Adam can enjoy a nieve or ice cream. Love you guys, Saludos desde Dallas, TX.
We absolutely love Jalatlaco! We were just there for the Dia de Muertos. It is one of our favorite neighborhoods in Mexico 🇲🇽. Veracruz is on the list for sure! Don’t tell Heidi about the Fappes😂 she will never leave! Really appreciate the recommendations! Keep Them coming! Hope you have a great day Araf!
@@TheCountryCollectors hahahaha yeah that's what I figured, there are Coffee Haciendas there and they have tours. Beautiful! Have a great day Adam. Enjoy my México!
In most Spanish speaking countries LL is pronounced Y but in some places its kind of SHH but with a sort of a j sound. My Spanish is pretty good but with street being "Calle" that little change made getting directions very difficult, especially in Argentina, where they speak at 100mph anyway
Oh man - the ups and downs of learning a new language - it can be so rewarding but also super frustrating at the same time! But very important to try and speak the language at least a bit in every country you go to - out of respect!
Spanish is my first language so I have the same problem with English. Even though after been speaking English for teen years I still have problems with the vowels, example sheet and shit 😅😅😅...
Great insightful video. Thanks. How was your stay in Jalatlaco and what about the water usage situation there in your hotel/air bnb, how. was that as i heard u gotta be mindful of it or something, from what i seen on youtube?

No worries! Glad that we could help. It’s one of our favorite neighborhoods in the area so definitely check it out if you have the chance. The art is just amazing! Safe travels to you as well! When are you thinking of going?
This is beautiful. I like variety of colors like this. I thank you guys for giving us this tour of Jalatlaco.

"the store of nightmares" hahaha I love your guys energy and all the fun facts sprinkled within the videos! Just subscribed and can't wait to see more!
Thanks so much! 😚 We appreciate you!
Really great find and the report is right on. Good report.
Thanks so much!
I love the food tour parts of your videos, and I wanted to hear what that mezcal was like! what % did he say? and like the mask designs too guys 👏🏼
@@TheCountryCollectors What a cool guy! nice share guys, enjoy your travels 👍🏼
I love the tip about the trail wallet app!! Thanks so much for sharing! that's gonna be so helpful!
That’s my favorite app when traveling on a budget it keeps us in check!
Que bonito el barrio de Jalatlaco con sus murales!!!. Saludos amigos.
Gracias amiga! ❤️
Omg !! I love those colours x
Us too!! Thank you so much for your comment! Hope you enjoyed!
👋 guys! Thanks for the awesome vibes in Oaxaca City! Thinking of going there in November 👍Enjoy CA! Blessings! 🌻
😊
Thank you for sharing this and for your support Walter.
Adam made me laugh, his ballet skills are fantastic!!! No Pueblo magic but you always get the magic in your videos, lov you guys!
Aww thank you so much Amy!!
You guys did a great job 👏 👏 painting 🖼
Lol 😂 thanks! We appreciate you Tony! So
Glad that you enjoyed it so much! We love it there!
Fights when hungry ??? Hangry! Lol. Thanks for sharing the lesser known sites, sounds, and sensations ... you guys rock!
❤️
We stayed in that neighborhood exactly one year ago for Dia de Muertos. We stayed at city Centro hotel which is one of the only hotels there. They actually had quite a bit of action at night with the local parades since the official ones had been canceled due to Covid. We loved that little neighborhood.
We were there too! Love Jalatlaco!!
@@TheCountryCollectors We probably crossed paths. We stayed from October 31 to November 3rd then drove down the mountain to Huatulco. We love all of your Mexico video’s. You do a great job. Planning on semi retirement on the Oaxacan coast 😀
Buen video 👍🏻👍🏻🍺
Thank you so much Juan! Where are you from?
De Oaxaca. Solo que no he estado por allá en meses. Pronto quiero regresar 👍🏻
Disfruten el calorcito! 🍺
We appreciate you!
woooooow beautiful city. its amazing great thumbs up from new friend keep connected.
Wow 🤩! Thanks! How very nice of you. We are so excited you decided to join the Country Collectors. Can’t wait to experience the world with you!
Another good one guys 👍
Thank you 🙏 so much Paul! We appreciate your support. We start full time travel vlogging again next week. Stay tuned for for more fun adventures!
looks really relaxing - whats the cost of living there? rent?
It is very relaxing and beautiful! The cost of living varies based on what you want and where you want to live. We were paying 600$ per month for a full apt. Food is affordable. We have lots of videos about that too! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the info!
Our pleasure!
I heard that the Wolkswagen factory is in Puebla, no? At least my husband’s 2019 Jetta came from Puebla 🤩
Oaxaca is absolutely beautiful, we are thinking of going this year. Last time I visited my dad’s pueblo in the Sierra Mixteca in 2011. Thank you for sharing.
Yes you’re right!
The most I look , the most I love my Mexico 🇲🇽
🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Great video guys.
We appreciate all your support!
Qué bonito! Muchas gracias! 💖
gracias Celia. ¡Le apreciamos y nos alegra que sea parte de la Familia de Coleccionistas de País!
Oaxaqueños are really good artists, in every corner they show why are Mecca of the Mexican cultura
Yes that’s so true! Absolutely amazing!
Keep
Them coming! Hope you have a great day Araf!
@@TheCountryCollectors hahahaha yeah that's what I figured, there are Coffee Haciendas there and they have tours. Beautiful! Have a great day Adam. Enjoy my México!
Best ever vid ! You guys rock ! See you en Mexico in October!
Hey thanks Michael!!
Lol 😂 Heard! It’s crazy but I get it. There are lots of words in English like this. Watch out for beaches and Beeches too
Amazing content guys
Thanks Edgar! 🇲🇽🙏👍🏽❤️
It's a cool. City bro. So quite. Wonderful. Meals
Hi Angel! We love this barrio, such a wonderful place.
Nice video. Often the coolest cars i see in Mexico are old VW bugs that have been fixed up.
Same! We do a thing instead of slug bug we hug big, so when we went to Mexico we were like woah! We were hugging all day long jaja
Great insightful video. Thanks. How was your stay in Jalatlaco and what about the water usage situation there in your hotel/air bnb, how. was that as i heard u gotta be mindful of it or something, from what i seen on youtube?
It was great! We didn’t have any problems where we stayed but the water can be difficult in some areas. They bring it in trucks. Don’t drink it!!!!
@@TheCountryCollectors ok.. thank u for the heads up.
❤️🙏
México is amazing 🤩🇲🇽
It sure is! The people, culture, food - everything!
Whoever lined up the shot with the VW in the circle in the gate, good eye.
Thank you
Wow so nice graffiti beautiful streets I like it thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for your support Piotur!

Haha it’s the rule in Mexico!
Nice vlogging 👍
We appreciate you!! Thanks so much.
I also thought that Mexico was rather cheap! But I guess not... Great share! ATB 😁
Thanks! It really Depends where you are and what you are looking for! It’s very special there
The best city in Mexico 💖💖🛎

@@TheCountryCollectors no sadly I’m in Florida for now but hopefully in the next year. Just love it at any rate, he could probably sell a lot online
