    It may not be "nice". But I remember what she said. That Rachel may not have married Barry, but she married hers.
    She's unhappy and gave up her happiness for comfort and luxury. And she thought that was the better option, so she taught her kids that.
    Seeing Rachel struggle AND succeed, it showed she could be wrong. Living in an unhappy marriage isn't self-less. It's toxic.

    • @ИванБорисюк-п7э
      @ИванБорисюк-п7э Рік тому +29

      Well, you gotta own your mistakes. Take the responsibility. You wanna leave? Fine. But you don't have to act inappropriately. Rachel didn't go to smoke pot, find out what's new in sex and do another reckless stuff after leaving "her" Barry. She owned it to Barry, her family and her friends, got a job, a place to live and start taking control of life, even though with mistakes. Now her mom didn't even talk to her husband, Rachel has the greatest point there.

    • @JohnSmith-bn5mi
      @JohnSmith-bn5mi Рік тому +43

      @@ИванБорисюк-п7э True, but her mom is older. More than likely it's not born out of excitement of freedom, but excitement at trying to have the youth she never got to experience since she was the "proper wife".
      I agree, she definitely needs to reel it in. But it's an understandable, though... uncomfortable part of her decision.

      Barry seems to be a good guy, so a good average guy with enough money is not enough.

    • @JohnSmith-bn5mi
      @JohnSmith-bn5mi Рік тому +4

      @@retired-s5h Nope.
      And that's a good thing.
      Being nice to each other is the bare minimum for human interaction.
      In the same way that just staying fit and supportive isn't enough for women, having money and being a provider isn't enough for men.
      If relationships are built on the extraneous perks, then there's nothing in the actual relationship. It's hollow. It can be fun if everyone's okay with that, but it's not the best if you're looking for long term.

    True, Leonard gets a lot of well deserved scorn for spoiling his daughters. But Sandra also permitted his toxic behaviour, and pressured the girls into marrying for money and comfort, not for love.

      Its because it's really hard to get out a mentality of your era that you were raised with, your parents practiced, society practiced and then you practiced. There was no alternative for her. But Rachel broke the cycle and she finally saw the other option.

    The irony of all this is that Marlo Thomas is famous for portraying the first sitcom character that was an unmarried, career-driven city girl who doesn't live with her parents, which inspired future characters like Mary Richards, Carrie Bradshaw, and Rachel Green herself.
