@@meeunice Precisely, Monica was already conscious of how her mother and grandmother treated each other, and was determined to not repeat the cycle with her own children.
It was clear that Judy treated Monica the same way that her own mother treated her, yet she was apparently oblivious, which is true in many abusive families.
I feel so bad for Monica and i can totally relate. I too have this Mother instinct just like her which represents how badly i wished i too had someone like me for me.
Judy was the worst parent in the entire show, even including Rachel's dad. At least Monica grew more confident, and learned to break the cycle of abuse.

I was appalled at Monica and Ross's mother's treatment of Monica. Based on the stories that my mother tells me about her own mother when she was growing up the treatment sounds very similar.
Question: wasn’t Monica’s apartment left from her grandmother? Why is she stressed about the rent. In the episode where she meets Joey and he comes over for “lemonade “ she yells him “ I have this apartment from my grandmother, otherwise O could never afford such a place” and now she tells Ross she is stressed about making rent. What did I miss?
It always bothered me that Monica felt entitled to wedding money from her parents. She was independent and had been living and working on her own for years
I wish Judy's character would've died. What an awful "Mother." There should've been an episode where Monica confronted her. She's so mean to Monica. Hated her character.
She did confront her more than once. Episode where Nana dies, the episode where she catered for her mom, when it was Jack's birthday and Monica was going out with Richard.
In real life a mother is supposed to be 'a mother', so kind, loving, supporting etc The fact Judy isn't (most of the time) produces painful (we can relate to Monica's pain and frustration), but also funny scenes, her behaviour doesn't bother me because of that. If every character had behaved as he/she 'should' have, we wouldn't have FRIENDS as it is, it would have been boring.
It is the same here. Normally 👰♀️ family needs to spend for the wedding. I think in the drama they were planning to spend equally. Unfortunately Monica’s parents spent her fund.
I just know that Monica was an amazing mother to her twins. Based on how she treated her friends.
Absolutely. As Chandler said, she was already a mother without a child (before they had them)

So true ,my mum was a very cold woman but could go beyond compassion.her own mother was very neglectful and indifferent so it like a domino effect
you forgot to mention matthew perry in your comment
I felt for Monica with how her mother sometimes treated her. I was glad that improved later on.

She actually turned out amazing.

They are! 😄
We all are Monica
Judy was actually a very nice woman. She was nice to everyone except her own daughter.
I had a mum like Judy
Karma did caught up with judy when she wanted to dance with Chandler at the wedding & Chandler slipped & pulled judy pants down
Ross is a real jerk to Monica whenever she complains about their mom
Not true. Remember how he defended her to their father after all her stuff had been washed away
Moments where Ross absolutely refuses to take responsibility for his F ups and dodges it, really makes me dislike his character
How about all those moments when he was kind and generous and supportive? Sitcom characters are always flawed, that's the premise.
Makes me understand why he settled for Rachel 😅
Monica.... Courtney Cox is officially a goddess!..

She didn't say, it was rent free. She still had to pay some rent.
You don’t know that it was left to her alone. It might have been left to the family in which case it’s natural for her to pay some kind of rent.
Sometimes it’s embarrassing for Monica
