So I already can anticipate people mentioning the Orient Bambino and the Sarb 033 and 035 in the comments. Great watches, but I wanted to spotlight some others in this video. Don't hate me for it ;) thanks for the support everyone!
I was surprised you did not mention the Bambino/SARB, I've noticed you like both a lot. Good to see you're not sticking just to some of the classic favorites! Great Video
Orient Bambino is nice but the hands are too short. I wonder if making the minute hands longer is something that increases production costs in a way or another. Re dress watches I think it is where you can really go vintage, as water resistance is a moot point. Anyway consider that in the summertime, on hot and very humid days wrist perspiration can fog a watch that has no WR
Love this list! I plan on having a 3 piece collection consisting of one dress, one casual, and one diver. I'll definitely refer to this list when it's time to add my dress piece. Thanks!
I really enjoyed putting this one together. All of them I could easily see wearing on my wrist! And great approach you have to your collection! Let me know what you decide on once you pull the trigger!
Couldn't agree more on The Baroncelli, that is one gorgeous watch. For Tissot, I really recommend Tissot Heritage Sovereign, It has a strong vintage dress watch vibe.
My first Swiss watch and indeed my first Automatic watch was a Longines. I paid right around $1000 for it, probably ten years ago now while on a business trip to Switzerland. It's a wonderfully slim watch which always seems to attract compliments whenever I wear it. Probably gets the least amount of wrist time of the watches in my collection but I'll always have a fondness for it with it being my first.
Teddy, great video with excellent affordable watches. Really glad you showed the Seiko Cocktail Time with that beautiful dial. I saw one with a black patent leather band and it screamed dress watch. Of course a great option is restoring a vintage 60’s Omega with a 551 movement or 563 with calendar function (I’m working on one now and a great option for under $1000 and some leg work). So many good watches, so little time.
I like the seiko sarx045 and 055, although the second one is probably out of this price range. I also like a roast beef sandwich with all the fixings, which although technically not a watch, still has more horological significance than a DW or a Michael Kors.
The design of that Mido is absolutely stellar. If it was done by another brand with a slightly better movement and slightly better polish, this design could go for 8000 or more, easy.
Mido is a solid Swiss brand! I have always given them love when I can in these types of videos. Great value for the money and I think they are great looking as well.
Great list, i would have added the Tissot Le Locle, gorgeous roman numerals, one of the classiest watches imo. And i think the blue dial Cocktail deserved an appearence in the video. And damn I love the FC moonphases too! Especially the rose gold ones.
Straight up, obviously all these makers trying to all hit different fronts and cover bases but man, I have gotten lost on the dress watch end with the offerings from Rado, Mido, Hamilton, Longines and Nomos. They really have strengths there and will tear you a new one! In your wallet... but fair value without being as pretentious and unattainable in game XP as the bigger players. And truly at least on soley the dress side, have a better array of designs IMHO. Teddy nailed it.
Something about ur dress watch saying “geneve” when ur in suit and tie is such a classy feeling.. that Frederique Constant is one of my favorites dress watches
I bought and returned the Timex Marlin. I thought it looked and felt cheap in person and did not warrant $200. The 34mm case also looked to small on my 7.25 wrist. This was disappointing because I have several Timex in my collection but this one just wasn't meant to be. Think my next purchase will be a Tissot or Hamilton. Good video always enjoy your posts.
Great options Teddy. I am actually looking at getting a dress watch and my shortlist is composed of: Timex Marlin 34mm Handwind, Longines Conquest Heritage, Junghans Max Bill 38mm Auto. Which should I go for?
All excellent picks. I have the Visodate in gold and I would also add the Tissot Le Locle to the list. My L is non-COSC, but usually stays within COSC. Those have dropped to around $400. Glycine also offers a moonphase automatic at around $500 on the grey market. I'd like one of those, but I keep picking up vintage Omegas instead.
I dug recently into the world of Enamel Dial. And it's quite crazy what Seiko has achieved for a really reasonable price point, especially compare to more prestigious Swisss brands. Maybe a future video about Enamel Dials?
I love my white dial/ blue hand Orient Bambino. I pit it on a plan black strap. Its perfect for me. I also love my SARB033. But I agree it gets a ton of attention. Happy you went with less popular(some anyway) watches for this video.
Great review. I have a dilemma. I am shopping for an everyday watch. I am business casual for work and more conservative/mature casual vs cargos and sneakers outside of the office. I recently decided against a 40mm flieger with a lug to lug of 49.5mm for an everyday watch... it just seems it would be too big on my 6.25in wrist... I am deciding between the white visodate and the Sarb (either color). If the Sarb was still ~$350 this would be a no brainier but what which is better buy for everyday wear (Visodate $399-450, Sarb $469-550)? Thanks!
Orient Bambino always come first and especially on the newer version with the sub-seconds dial and a display case back. You get an in-house movement that hacks and handwinds for circa 200USD from watch dealers.
Teddy maybe you missed out some of the square or rectangular design watches couldn't think of one except for the nomos tetra and cartier tank / santos which exist the price range in this category.
Yeah I could have thrown one in. Candidly, I’m not really a fan of a lot of square dress pieces. Any recommendations for this price range though. I think a square watch video would be interestingz
really great channel to understand alot about watches. Thanks for putting stuff together that would have taken alot longer for a newbie like me to comprehend. Could you suggest where i can buy watches that have been sold out/not sold anymore. I have been frequenting a couple of institutions near by but no luck. thanks again
You should check out Christopher Ward, they offer a lot of variety in this price range and really great service. They just did a half off sale on a lot of their watches. Would have got a couple more if I hadn't just bought a house.
Junghans has some amazing offerings. Wish they would expand some finish options, dial variation... etc.. Some of these companies should offer strap options as well. Nomos too!
Thoughts on these modern “dress” watches all being closer to 40mm and sometimes even above? I mean... some iconic dive watches are 40mm. Am I the only one who thinks a true dress watch should be smaller?
Hi, fan of your content and channel! I was wondering if you had considered the Laco Classic for this list ? It is under $1000, sports a Miyota movement and a mineral crystal and matches the aesthetics of the Stowa Bauhaus watches. I have been thinking about purchasing that watch, but haven't come across any watch enthusiasts/reviewers cover that watch on youtube. Would appreciate your opinion on it :)
Great video. I have to agree with everyone of your choices. That rarely ever happens, but you pulled it off. Again, great work. I appreciate the thought that went into your choices. Really great.
Hey mate. Love your content. Would you do a video on watches offered by Indian watch company Titan. They have some great pieces (and quite affordable).
I would add Ball Trainmaster Legend it is a killer dress watch now it is on jomashop for 599. I mean, you can't get any better than this. The Balls do have similar fit and finish w the likes of oris, longines, tag, and may I say, even omega at times.
the thinness of the Mido Baroncelli is impressive for an automatic watch at this price point, but I found myself a Hamilton Intra-Matic with the grey sunburst dial wich was just so much more interesting than the Mido's dial to me, so I went with the Hamilton
The Mido looks great, i love their Commander datoday. I think preowned Nomos Ludwig or even a good deal on a Tangenta. The Junghans looks great, i really like their designs. There are also a lot of deals on Maurice Lacriox dress watches on the grey market for under 1k$.
Great mentions! Those are certainly some steals that you can find. I just get hesitant saying watches that retail well over 1000 are under a 1000 in these videos because people tend to get upset over it and say I’m deceptive lol.
Hey Teddy, new to your channel. Do you have any opinions on the Zeppelin German Watches? I see they have some automatics that range in price from 500-700. Great video!
Watch philosophical thought- should "dress watches" have any numerals or just hour markers on the dial? In my opinion, I prefer my dress watches with no numbers or if it does then maybe only Roman numerals. But that's just my opinion. Good video.
Presage is baroque compared to the SARB. I'd like possibly a SARB 033. Stowa is really consistent in all its designs. It seems the best, although my pick would be more of a pilot style watch from them. Those Tissots are not bad at all, but the minute hand is definitely too short. Max Bill is nice, but isn't it an acrylic crystal? Too easy too scratch. Ok for vintage, but from a modern watch I'd expect sapphire above $150. Many people in NYC i see wearing nice suits tend to wear Rolex Subs or similar. Younger people / millennials on the subway wearing too many oversized homages to dress watches. There are some Seiko SARY models that are newer than SARBS but I do not like them as much. The day + date kind of ruins the balance. Probably I'd pick between Sinn, Nomos, Stowa. Rolex Explorer is really nice too, like the SARB 033 but better, more interesting dial.
I really wish hobbyists in this field would steer away from promoting watches over $100. I have seen so many gorgeous, well-made watches below that price range. The key to helping this hobby grow is to promote fairly-priced watches, and to buy more of them. If so, the manufacturers the will respond in turn.
Ugh that’s tough. I think I would go with orient just because of value and options you have. That said, i feel so many people have one. If only one of them came in 38mm I would pick one up.
All extremely good options I own half of them ahaha ., except the Tissot swissmatic, it doesn’t look that dress to me though is a nice watch ! Everybody into watches looks like they love the max bills., it kinda look like all crystal too me like there is no case though I like the simplicity of it and that gold one looks cool
Good selection man, I'd just like to ask about your opinion on the 34 mm Max Bill. Is it okay for a guy with 6.5" wrists? Or would you prefer the 38 mm? I just feel like the 34 mm would be better since the watch is pretty much all dial.
Inflated prices seem to be a problem for the majority of watch shops in europe, I guess they can afford to do so since the import taxes are pretty damn high if we buy from outside of the EU. Great video, keep doing your thing 😄
When i looked for new seiko i came to that site too, to be honest their "discounts" are basically the normal resale prices, I haven't and probably won't order from them, because I don't like these kind of shops that sell basically everything. I guess you should rather look in active forums for advice on this shop, just search up Joma Shop review
Great Video
Teddy - Bambino lacks sex appeal, gave one away, their 40m wears too large and the sunburst blue looked tacky. Otherwise, like their mvmnt.
The bambino, a watch you keep staring at even you already got the hour
Won't hate you for it, but with exception of the Presage line, the picks didn't appeal to me.
I’m really glad that peter Parker quit his day job to review time pieces.
You're right, Mido is a wonderful brand, I don't know why it is overlooked. To me Mido means robust, rugged, good watches.
You have come a long way since 2018, Teddy. Kudos!
Teddy Baldassarre So far I only have my 'casual' piece. It's a Hamilton Khaki King with a beige face.
Yes I do love that Junghans Max Bill Teddy, I don’t wear a dress watch too often but that is a beautifully crafted watch!
Haha well you always have the chronoscope too :) both are rather dressy though.
Love Longines also. I am always looking for a black tie event so I can have an excuse to wear it.
Glad you mentioned Mido. They make great watches.
I will give them love whenever I can. I was really impressed with all the watches that I have held in person.
My wife and I got matching Mido baroncellis for our wedding and they’re beautiful, well-proportioned watches that wear so comfortably. Agree!
Joshua Cohen are u lesbian? U bought a women’s watch a REAL MAN wears ROLEX
gotta say, i love tissiots vintage inspired watches with the old school logo.
I do too! So much cooler in my opinion.
Your last sentence sums up my existence and so right about vintage omega. Another great option here as well as longines.
I like the seiko sarx045 and 055, although the second one is probably out of this price range. I also like a roast beef sandwich with all the fixings, which although technically not a watch, still has more horological significance than a DW or a Michael Kors.
Lol great comment.
The design of that Mido is absolutely stellar. If it was done by another brand with a slightly better movement and slightly better polish, this design could go for 8000 or more, easy.
Having an editor really does help you a lot. Keep up the great work teddy!
The editor has only done one so far 😂 I have just been hustling out of my mind
But thank you Andre. Owen has another video he is working on which should be out on Wednesday.
I completely agree with you on Mido, and I love that it’s underrated because the vintage Multiforts are so cheap for having an in-house movement.
Mido is a solid Swiss brand! I have always given them love when I can in these types of videos. Great value for the money and I think they are great looking as well.
Yeah, they have so many options too
Great list, i would have added the Tissot Le Locle, gorgeous roman numerals, one of the classiest watches imo. And i think the blue dial Cocktail deserved an appearence in the video. And damn I love the FC moonphases too! Especially the rose gold ones.

They really have strengths there and will tear you a new one! In your wallet... but fair value without being as pretentious and unattainable in game XP as the bigger players. And truly at least on soley the dress side, have a better array of designs IMHO. Teddy nailed it.
Top list. Nice to see Stowa get a mention, great company with a rich heritage, they offer personalisation detailing which is an interesting aspect.
Totally agree, Peter. I am so glad you enjoyed the list!
Something about ur dress watch saying “geneve” when ur in suit and tie is such a classy feeling.. that Frederique Constant is one of my favorites dress watches
That gold Junghans is stunning. Great choices Teddy!
Thanks Courtney ;) I’m more of a stainless steel guy given my lackluster tan. Lol
Not as stunning as you are, oh my goodness
I bought and returned the Timex Marlin. I thought it looked and felt cheap in person and did not warrant $200. The 34mm case also looked to small on my 7.25 wrist. This was disappointing because I have several Timex in my collection but this one just wasn't meant to be. Think my next purchase will be a Tissot or Hamilton. Good video always enjoy your posts.
Thanks for sharing this, Scott. That is a shame to hear about the Marlin. :/
Subscribed! Thanks! I'm a big fan of dress watches as well! I do have a Timex Weekender with a blue and yellow stripe band
Thanks Terrence! Welcome to the channel. Ahh the timex weekender, such a fun watch.
Missing Longines for sure. Might I also recommend taking a look at Atlantic - they make handsome and affordable watches. They are popular in Poland.
Glad to see you included Tissot Everytime. I really like it!
I do as well. I wish I knew about it earlier on in my collection journey.
Great options Teddy. I am actually looking at getting a dress watch and my shortlist is composed of: Timex Marlin 34mm Handwind, Longines Conquest Heritage, Junghans Max Bill 38mm Auto. Which should I go for?
I think Certina offers more attractive pieces for the price of some watches mentioned here!
Which ones do you like by them? Similar to mido, I think they are under-appreciated. Probably should have given them more of a look for this.
Certina fly under the radar, but produce some great, solid and beautifully finished pieces
great video. I would like an updated version
I love watching you taking about watches while wearing watch
All excellent picks. I have the Visodate in gold and I would also add the Tissot Le Locle to the list. My L is non-COSC, but usually stays within COSC. Those have dropped to around $400. Glycine also offers a moonphase automatic at around $500 on the grey market. I'd like one of those, but I keep picking up vintage Omegas instead.
If I'm ever gonna buy a dress watch, I think the Timex Marlin would be it. It's affordable, definitely not too big and the design really speaks to me!
Honestly, it is such a fun piece. If I don’t end up getting one, I could see myself gifting it to someone. It a great piece!
Jp its so over priced for what you get.......34mm is really small.......
Never heard of Stowa before- some very interesting offerings! Great list- thank you!
Happy to help. Stowa is a great brand
I dug recently into the world of Enamel Dial. And it's quite crazy what Seiko has achieved for a really reasonable price point, especially compare to more prestigious Swisss brands. Maybe a future video about Enamel Dials?
Yo Teddy. Love the list videos and the fact that you link all the watches you reference in the description! Makes it easy for me :)
Haha so happy to help Todd. This one was a shorter list than many of my others.
I wish you would include lug to lug as well.
I love my white dial/ blue hand Orient Bambino. I pit it on a plan black strap. Its perfect for me. I also love my SARB033. But I agree it gets a ton of attention. Happy you went with less popular(some anyway) watches for this video.
Certainly some were popular. However, I am glad you appreciate me passing on them. I think most of us are well aware of them.
That Junghans Max Bill is my next to buy watch. I love the minimalist design.
I have the chronoscope version. It is amazing to look at. Gets a ton of compliments.
Teddy Baldassarre it is gorgeous, and my girlfriend prefer it as well, but I already have a couple of chronoscopes so I want this version.
Awesome! My girlfriend loves mine too 😂
Thanks very much for your videos. I have learned allot from viewing them. Keep up the great work!
Thanks!
Great video!
However, would you consider the Longines Conquest Heritage as reasonable option in this price range?
Always solid reviews--Thanks!
Teddy Baldassarre hope to see your video in the future
really great channel to understand alot about watches. Thanks for putting stuff together that would have taken alot longer for a newbie like me to comprehend.
Could you suggest where i can buy watches that have been sold out/not sold anymore. I have been frequenting a couple of institutions near by but no luck.
thanks again
Is Tissot Ballade Powermatic 80 COSC a better choice than Seiko SARX055 for a dress watch?
Up to you really mate. That Tissot looks fantastic though.
You should check out Christopher Ward, they offer a lot of variety in this price range and really great service. They just did a half off sale on a lot of their watches. Would have got a couple more if I hadn't just bought a house.
I just bought a used Mido Commander with single pusher chronograph because of this video! Do I dare push play and watch the rest?
Mido looks great!
Totally agree. Such a great looking piece! I don’t know why it doesn’t get more love!
Keep the informative video's coming, big fan.
Seiko is the best choice!
Junghans has some amazing offerings. Wish they would expand some finish options, dial variation... etc.. Some of these companies should offer strap options as well. Nomos too!
Great vid as always Ted! I've been your fan a long time! May I ask your opinion about roamer and claude bernard? Are they great watches?
Please please please, I would love to hear your opinion of any “Ball”watches.
Thoughts on these modern “dress” watches all being closer to 40mm and sometimes even above? I mean... some iconic dive watches are 40mm. Am I the only one who thinks a true dress watch should be smaller?
You’re at the right channel to have that opinion. I hate large dress watches!! Every watch in my collection is now 40mm and below lol.
Visodate or jazzmaster thinline? Looking mainly at black face options
I was actually not familiar with that piece from laco. I know them more for their field watches. Great recommendation. Looks sharp.
Wow... I really dropped the ball on that one. I love ball! They have roots in my hometown of Cleveland too. Bad job out of me!
Teddy Baldassarre why bad job? You are doing a fantastic job. We are all sharing here.
Brian Cho I appreciate it Brian! Just mad I didn’t include that one. Thanks for the support though!
the thinness of the Mido Baroncelli is impressive for an automatic watch at this price point, but I found myself a Hamilton Intra-Matic with the grey sunburst dial wich was just so much more interesting than the Mido's dial to me, so I went with the Hamilton
I agree regarding Maurice Lacroix. I love the Automatic Aiken.
The German watches at the end were really nice
Hey Teddy, new to your channel. Do you have any opinions on the Zeppelin German Watches? I see they have some automatics that range in price from 500-700. Great video!
The Max Bill is high on my wishlist.
Such a great looking watch!
Nice list. Feel like Baltic might deserve a place on it as well.
Timex Marlin reissue, what a beauty
Awesome video! Does anyone know the name of the FC modle shown at 4:06? I love those dauphine hands.
Where can I buy a Stowa Antea Klassik? Having a difficult time finding a place to buy one that is in English
Not really into the Visodate, personally think it's too big. But that Tissot logo is too nice though, only reason I'd buy one if I were to buy one.
I really like the Longines Flagship lineup.
Awesome watches! I think they are a bit out of the price range. Vintage longines is a great option here.
I really like that hamilton,i own the khaki automatic great watches and decent value.
Do you recommend buying Tissot on Amazon? I know Tissot doesn't offer warranty if not purchased to them, so is it worth the risk?
I'm right there with you, have to love the look of dress watches and their versatility!
Best, IC
Thanks, my friend! Checked out your shop btw. Really interesting concept.
If you'd like to know more just reach out!
IC
i like the Junghans most
I really wish hobbyists in this field would steer away from promoting watches over $100. I have seen so many gorgeous, well-made watches below that price range. The key to helping this hobby grow is to promote fairly-priced watches, and to buy more of them. If so, the manufacturers the will respond in turn.
Any thoughts on Stowa Antea 1919?
Teddy, plz review a few watches with milgrain, hobnail, fluted, ribbed bezels.
Tissot swissmatic? or Orient Bambino? if you had to pick one, which would you pick?
Ugh that’s tough. I think I would go with orient just because of value and options you have. That said, i feel so many people have one. If only one of them came in 38mm I would pick one up.
Teddy Baldassarre completely agree. 38mm would be the ideal size.
can you make a review of IWC Portofino IW356501?
Always wondered what’s the point of making a watch water resistant if the band is leather
Jesus Christ I’m glad teddy started eating since this video
New to this but I’ve noticed nobody talks about Movado watches....ever. How come?
Would you consider the Seiko Snkl23 a dress watch?
That is a tough one. I think it has potential to be dressed up, but I wouldn’t consider it a dress watch.
2:15 is that a blue dial and hands?
A nice dress watch is a vintage Waltham... If you can find a Waltham in excellent condition, you can't go wrong for a dress watch.
I just feel like the 34 mm would be better since the watch is pretty much all dial.
i would go with 38
34 is to small
Is the SPB047 has enamel dial?
Mido Baroncelli Automatic White is not under $1,000 unles you get used second hand on ebay or something like that.
Show some vintage ones Benrus Hilton Elgin
I am seriously considering the tissot everytime swissmatic, but in europe I can’t seem to find one even close to the price you mentioned 😕
Really great looking watch. I’m sorry to hear that though... that’s interesting you can’t find any under $250 there.
Inflated prices seem to be a problem for the majority of watch shops in europe, I guess they can afford to do so since the import taxes are pretty damn high if we buy from outside of the EU. Great video, keep doing your thing 😄
Oh Spider-Man is a watches fan !
pretty good list
This needs an update for 2023
Is jomashop reliable to order from? Trying to figure out how they can discount so much? Let me know if you've ordered from them before successfully
When i looked for new seiko i came to that site too, to be honest their "discounts" are basically the normal resale prices, I haven't and probably won't order from them, because I don't like these kind of shops that sell basically everything. I guess you should rather look in active forums for advice on this shop, just search up Joma Shop review
Pls suggest a good dress watch under 200$ max dial size 36mm
Nice.
Some love for my little Presage.
Which presage reference do you have?
