Best video you've put out in a long time in my opinion. Very informative. I watched all the way and liked.
Thanks my brother! Lots of work went into making this video!
Bison is by far my favorite kind of jerky! Highly recommend, it tastes very similar to beef but richer (not gamey though).
I just started 4 batches of it: one standard pepper (basically your recipe + liquid smoke), one with miso-honey-ginger-garlic-soy-sauce, one with those things but also with Worcestershire and gochujang and red pepper flakes, and another one that's pretty much the standard one but with chiltepin and cumin and coriander for a Mexican twist. I'll update this when I try them!
Also I hope my deep-dive pricing comment on the last video was a bit of an inspiration for this 🙂 So glad you made this and used grams!
Glad you like it! ...... All of them sound Deeeeeeeelicious brother! 👊🏻
you're so funny and a fantastic content creator, love everything you do, keep it up man you're gonna blow up really soon
Thanks you so much James your kind words are really appreciate it! 🤜🏻🤛🏻🤟🏻
I really like these type of videos with the cost and math breakdown.
Glad you like it Brent! Thanks 👊🏻
Great great stuff Ninja! Tons of great info
Thanks my brother! 😀😀
I've been making jerky for years Ninja. Beef, venison, bear etc. Never thought to break it down like that. Very informative video I must say. Keep up the good work!
That’s awesome Mad! Glad you like it and more is coming, keep tune 🤟🏻
Thanks for the second video! I followed your first video and it turned out great.
That’s awesome Nemo! Thanks 👊🏻
Totally worth it! My local grocer has london broil bogo quite a bit. It makes great jerky.
Heck yeah baby! And with the prices rising! Forget it! 😀😀😀
Good one Ninja! I make my own all of the time. I don’t use a sweetener, but the honey you added is much better then what they add to store bought for sure! The last batch we did, I used ribeye. Cheers!
Nice! Thank you so much my friend! 😀
Thanks for making the update video
Oh no! Thanks for the support!
Glad you gone even more in-depth :-) You Tell 'em Ninja
Thanks Rob and glad you like it! 🤟🏻
I love this, the detailed breakdown of actual cost ! And obviously for measuring in metric so i could understand the units for once hahaha
😂 thank you Meelek!
@@SaltyTales your welcome haha your a blessing to youtube ! :)
I’ve tried a lot of different beef jerky’s, bear venison , moose , elk, and of course beef but so far my favorite is elk and venison in second
We are creating a season on beef jerky and those will be there for sure! 😀😀
Love the breakdown of the price!
Thanks James! 🤟🏻
This was good! 😋
Haha , nice one Ninja , will keep eating beef but will never touch jerky. Have a great 4th of July weekend brother & everyone
🤣🤣...... same to you Rajesh happy 4th 🤟🏻
Fantastic Ninja, I love making beef jerky. I can't say the W word either so I call it "wash-yer-sister" sauce. Have a great 4th brother.
🤣🤣 love it!!! Same to you brother happy 4th 🤟🏻
i do two bottles spicy hotsauce, and half bottle low sodium soy sauce and thats it, marinate 8 hrs, sprinkle with crushed red pepper if youd like, dry in on dehydrator for about 12-24 hrs. Tastes amazing. Adjust your flavors from there, make little changes if needed over time.
Just made this using eye round and it's DEEEEEEEEELICIOUS!!!
Awesome! 👊🏻🤟🏻
I feel it's so worth making it at home. Mine is so flavorful and I can add or use less heat.
I’m with you! 👊🏻
I add dark soy sauce to my recipe and marinate it in a freezer bag for 2 to 3 days. When my marinating process is done, I am left with no marinating liquid in the bag.
Great tip Dianne! 👍🏻
Great video. I always wondered how much cheaper it is to make your own jerky.
Gotta try this
Do it Michael totally worth it! 🤟🏻
I love beef Jerky, but in my country it is not easy to get a good quality or variety! So i really appreciate the set of videos you are doing on this!!! Keep them coming!!! Jejeje
Thanks my brother! there is a lot more coming! 😀😀
Amazing!
Thanks Saras! 🤟🏻
Look, I'll watch the video, but I'll tell you right now it's worth it. I can't even eat store bought jerky ever since I started making my own. It's a whole different level!
Man the math behind this is nuts great job from the ninja the channel is looking great
Thank you so much Silver! Great to see you here 🤟🏻
I love to lay it out use cracked black pepper and than hang it I love pepper well done video
Sounds like how we do it back home! Thanks Jim 🤟🏻
I am happy for you! Creciste rapidísimo! Saludos a ti y a tu mama.
LOL thanks bro!
I keep it simple. soy sauce, maple syrup, black pepper, thyme, rosemary
should try some other things but these are just so good
I hear you Jelle! Good to see you here 👊🏻
Ninja, I made beef jerky last month. I used 5 lbs. London broil with was on sale for $3.99 a lbs. (20 bucks worth) It yielded about 2 lbs. of jerky after smoking, about $10 a lbs. but it was so much better than the packaged stuff... oh, btw it's pronounced woo-stir-sheer
Lol that os Awesomeeee!!!
My wife's parents live down the street from that store! Got to try this!
Check them out it’s worth it! Great to see you here Doug 🤟🏻
Awesome vid and awesome recipe. Sometime, when you get a chance, try out dry rub beef jerky. TRUST me. I got the recipe online that was just 3 parts each salt and pepper, 1 part each garlic, onion, cayenne, and paprika (I tweaked it to smoked paprika). Season the meat liberally all over and let it sit over night, then do your drying. Again, TRUST me on this! It's worth trying at least once. If you hate it, I will send you a box of meat from your favorite online store.
DEAL! 👊🏻😀
@@SaltyTales it's on! 😁
Amazing video. Can you please cover shelf life of beef jerky and how to make it last the longest. I've made it at home multiple times now and I always get scared to eat after a few days.
Thanks Alexis! More to come 👊🏻
jerky can last a long time, months even, dont be afraid, keep it in a jar, or ziplock bag, doesnt have to be in the fridge either, lasts months in jar in pantry
If you have the time, do it, you can control the quality of everything. If not, it is not that big of a difference between the homemade and the one you buy from the store. Good video Ninja
Thanks benito! 😀😀
I’ve made jerky before. I think I will be again soon. Thanks
Your welcome Stan! 🤟🏻
Pineapple juice, Soy, Apple cider vinegar, Salt, Worchester Sauce, Smoke. If I want sweet I also add tomato puree & honey. If I want spicy I add cayenne pepper. I marinate over night in the fridge. I poor the drained marinate into some ground beef and dry that as a thin sheet and cut it up after.
Do grilled brisket tacos (the best)
1.) Slice raw brisket thin
2.) Season with season all or lawrys
3.) Grill on high heat (watch for flare up's because of high fat content)
4.) Using a clever chop meat (because of toughness)
5.) Serve on grilled corn tortilla (chopped onion, cilantro, lime, and salsa opcional)
Creamy green salsa (most people think it has avocado but its a lie)
1.) Grill 5 jalapenos 2 serranos 2 cloves of garlic and a 1/4 onion
2.) Once charred blend everything together
3.) Crucial step slowly drizzle canola oil while blending to emulsify (if oil seperates stop and remove excess oil and reblend)
4.) Add salt to taste (even though it has a lot of peppers it is not a very spicy salsa. Really creamy in texture)
We will! 🤟🏻 thanks Alberto
@@SaltyTales a regular brisket will do. No need to get prime
I have made my own jerky for nearly 40 years now...no jerky is better than your own jerky once you know what you are doing. I suggest using london broil and buy when it is on sale for $1.99/pound.
Agree 💯! 👊🏻
I've been making jerky for years and it's absolutely worth it. The homemade flavor and texture make store-bought jerky look and taste disgusting (comparatively). Soy sauce and Worchester is really the key to a majority of the flavor. I try to limit my dry spices, otherwise, you get a cake/coating of just spice and it's kind of gross after a little while. Also note this, if you're making jerky for longevity; like camping, or hiking trips, you will want lean meat because the fat will go rancid. Here's the thing, jerky with fat (like top round, bottom round, rump roast) is insanely better tasting. Dehydrated, seasoned fat packs immense flavor. So, if you're making jerky to keep in the house and snacking, make fattier jerky, and keep it in your fridge. Excellent video and glad to see we have a lot of similarities. Oh, final note, you can also use a dehydrator, it works just as well.
Yes we do Alex beef jerky squad! Good to see you here 🤟🏻
What are some good lean meat options? I would have guessed bottom round and rump are the leanest options.
@@Bigtexbbq Bottom and rump can be lean if you trim the fat. I particularly like the fat banding those cuts give. London broil is a very lean cut and I believe is most preferred for lean jerky. Sirloin, eye-round, and tenderloin would also be great options. I've not tried any red meat that was not tasty. Anything can be made into tasty jerky, even ground beef. As Salty Tales said, it's definitely a deep rabbit hole.
I have been making beef jerky since I was a young boy.
1/2 teaspoon per pound of MSG does wonders for beef jerky. I also like to add dark brown sugar and use about double the amount of sugar that Ninja uses. The extra sugar doesnt make the jerky too sweet, it helps all of the other seasonings stick to the meat for extremely flavorful beef jerky. Everyone says its the best jerky they have ever had.
Here is my recipe for anyone who is interested.
8oz Worcestershire sauce
8oz soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon of MSG per lbs of beef
1 tablespoon smoked paprika, or to taste
2 tablespoon honey, or more to taste
4 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons crushed pepper flakes (to taste)
5 cloves of garlic (or more)
2 teaspoon onion powder
1-2 tablespoons dark brown sugar (to taste)
2 tsp of cayenne pepper
2 tsp of chili powder
4 pounds beef top round, thinly sliced
Hot sauce or 1 whole habenero pepper sliced or mashed
If you dont like your jerky spicy add only a teaspoon or two of crushed red pepper and omit the habenero/hot sauce. This jerky tends to be pretty spicy.
Thank you Chase! 👊🏻
not to mention that homemade jerky tastes soooo much better than most of the major brands these days(which are mostly all owned by the same company) also you don't really need to smoke it so you save money that way if you don't.
You are right! We are going to be making a lot more videos about beef jerky to keep tuned! 😀😀
Beef prices went up big time. Choice Picanha at my local Publix and Thrifty was at $8 per lb in early June. Yesterday, both were at $10 per lb.
Dang! Yes, it is happening every where, here it is happening too!
I buy a whole angus beef and have it processed. I pay $3.08/lb after processing. Support a local farmer and buy a beef, if you can’t buy a whole beef grab a bunch of neighbors and split the cost. From cheap ground beef to filets my total is still only $3.08/lb
I would say it’s definitely worth it… it’s so much better quality if u make it from home… personally I don’t care if it costs a bit more to make as the size of it will be SOOO much better… none of that crap paying £8 or something like that for a bag that’s half empty and the pieces are often so small considering how much u pay for it… I really hate that… but maybe that for me is because where I live there isn’t many good places to buy it from
Edit…. Ive never done it myself before but I do want to try it out… if it works I’ll be doing it a lot more in the future
You should add biltong to the series. I think it might be even cheaper.
The cheapest we are currently paying is 12.63 dollars for 35.274 ounces. (R180 for 1kg).
To the list Pieter! 👊🏻🤟🏻
Hello! Your first jerky video made me start making beef jerky to sell to friends and family and people close by. By my own calculations I actually earn 4 times what I spend on all the ingredients combined. It's just missing how much it costs to make it in relation to the gas/energy.
One thing tho is that it isn't as easy as I first thought but not too complicated either.
Oh man! That is great! Thanks for sharing brother!
@@SaltyTales Thank you for sharing the videos man. I love beef jerky from USA but used to bring bags from there to here.
I see you used store bought item for the prices, but one thing that really gets the prices to go down is buying big bulks of product, like soy sauce from Sam's Club ir similar stores, with that you can take off a lot more per batch, and I know for a fact that big companies get things for much much cheaper than in any store.
I do have one question tho, in your recipes you say you use 2 teaspons but on the grams and on the video I think you are using tablespoons. I also measured your same quantities and got the black pepper weighting less.
GREATT VIDEO NINJA!!! CARNE SECA!!
Weeeepa carne seca!!!! Thanks Eddie 🤟🏻
Still worth it. Loved the video.
Thanks David! 👊🏻
ST... am making a batch of this now.......and I put some COFFEE BEANS in the marinade just for an experiment. (Not a lot)..
This video made my day and I don't even eat red meat 🥓🍖 nice work
Thanks Salamon really appreciated! 👊🏻
I remember paying upwards of $6 for a bag of jack links beef jerky back in austria and i think the austrian one had a few grams less in it.
Wooooow! Homemade all the way 👊🏻
Something you missed off is the cost of dehydration. I use an electric oven and 4 hours is a significant amount of kwh used, which brings the total closer to the Jack Link's price I'm sure.
Another thing to bear in mind is that time is money. When you look at the amount of time you spend shopping, preparing and cooking, unless you know exactly what you are doing every time, do the savings add up to at least a minimum working wage?
I did set the price of the electricity consumed by the grill and the pellets. the time you put on making beef jerky is minimal and if you really try and add that to the final cost much much would you pay yourself for the job? That will change with each perception but looking at min wages how much would you put on it? 10/h 15/h?
@@SaltyTales Ah, sorry, I totally missed that part. I guess it depends really on what you're willing to work for. What was the total amount of time spent, including research, shopping etc? Obviously this kind of thing is what you do for work but for others, depending on time investment, it may not be worth spending the time.
Big fan by the way. Love your content.
We have fun making our own. Don't really think about the cost.
what top round beef in spanish?
I like to make my own plus in the winter I smoke my own cheese to.
Sounds like a deal to me! 👊🏻
Great video Ninja! Btw, it's actually super easy to pronounce "worcestershire sauce" correctly. It's just pronounced "Wuster", the "shire" bit isn't even pronounced. All Americans get it wrong. Stop trying to read out the word and just remember "wuster", it's "wuster sauce".
If you decide to get that Masterbuilt 40" it'll be a beef jerky-making machine. lol Have an awesome 4th. Cheers.
🤣🤟🏻love it! Same to you brother happy 4th!
It would be worth it anyway because homemade is so much better. I've made jerky with the same cure that I use for homemade bacon. Really good!
I’m with you! 👊🏻
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥badass
Thanks 🤜🏻🤛🏻😀
Great video ninja but still gas and time is a big factor!
Thanks Jeremy 👊🏻
I'd like to try making Al Pastor jerky
Sounds Deeeeeeeeelicious to me Juan! 👊🏻
I spend 350 on meat ,150 for power and other ingredients, this will make me about 10kg of dried jerky which I sell at 10 $ per 100gm or simply 1000$ .so I make 500 profit for around 10 hours work
In my country you can get 1 Kilogram or 2.2 pounds of fresh dried beef for like 12 Euros or 14 Dollars.
DANG! That is VERY cheap! What country is that?
@@SaltyTales Well they call it republic of Kosovo but it's actually a part of Serbia. Thanks for replying, love your content Ninja.
I’ve noticed that wild game makes better jerky than a fatted beef. Game meat holds together so well.
Coming up soon! 🤟🏻
Because they’re literally structured differently
Man... food costs so little in the USA compared to rural small town Central British Columbia, eh? Even my 20 lb bag of 'Competition Blend Pellets' costs over $30 CAD. 24 beer costs over $40 CAD. A 1/5 of Vodka costs aboot $24 CAD etc. I don't know how much jerky costs here, probably a lot of Loonies for a little cow.. l never buy jerky because it costs too much for me to even look at the price VS amount of jerky you get.
0:38 Bacon jerky! Get on it dude, I wanna see a video next week :D
Amazing, he did it XD
In Cali around $8
🤯🤯🤯
I've done bacon jerky in the oven with teriyaki seasoning.
Yummm we got to do it! Thanks J 🤟🏻
This will be the main reason for me to get a smoker hahahh
Let’s make it happen Eduardo! 👊🏻🤟🏻
Uh Oh! Looks like Ninja is going to making beef jerky in bulk. There is going to be a shortage of Whatsthishere Sauce. Looking forward to see more beef jerky recipes. Don't forget, Mr. George needs to taste test! Pretty sure he will like them all though.
Georgie love it forrrrr sure 😂! Thanks Jperin
Did you take into account the cost of keeping your oven open for a few hours?
Wow even 5 dollars for a 70g pack of beef jerky is quite expensive, but $8,99?
Usually pay £3-4 for 100g in the UK.
Yeap! Super expensive
Great video. But your missing the most important part. Your home made Beef Jerky has no chemicals in it. Making it much healthier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and BETTER TASTING!!!!!!!!!!! Great work keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much Pedal Man! 👊🏻🤟🏻
Tip - Pronounce Worcestershire as Wooster like everyone in England does :)
No cure salt?
British person here. Where I am from (midlands, Bedfordshire), we pronounce it much simpler. Wuss-teh-sure.
Awesome! Great to know! 😀😀
I always use my ovens to make jerky at 180.
Oven does a great job for sure! 😀😀
Thats not jerky. Jerky is dried meat. 180 means it's cooked. Let's call it steak bites. Don't go over 120-125°F if you want jerky.
Its 1000% worth it I do it all the time
It's hard to put a cost comparison on something you make for yourself the way you like vs something that's been sitting at a gas station in a sweaty bag for a month.
I have to say that I agree with you! 😅👊🏻
The cost of beef in most countries is crazy high and increasing.
Mind blowing Peter 😳
50w for 4h = .2kwh. cost 2 dollars??!! Which means 1kwh cost 10 dollars.... For reference I use about 1,000 kwh per month. My electric ranges from 11-30 cents per kWh.
Teriyaki, pineapple, juice, chopped garlic, ginger, black pepper
I make A LOT. I buy lots and lots of round and sirloin. Cut it between 1/8” to 3/8” thick depending on what I want for my final product.
Beef jerky squad! Let’s go Leland 🙌🏻
Thicker cuts will loose less water and will be so much better. Also get some silver side beef with some fat on. Soooooooo goooddd
We have to try! Thanks Whisky 🤟🏻
to be honest, Homemade Beef Jerky is much better than saving the cost.. Btw, Ninja. my country Malaysia Total lockdown has been extended until further notice. plus, i lost my cousins to covid-19 this past few days both got cremated and have private funeral service live home.. really sad here on my side.. =(
Oh man! I'm really sorry for your lost... 😞😞
@@SaltyTales i'm ok for now. i'm gonna move on and overcome this total lockdown continue get thru this. i'm soon losing financial in my own.. but will pray to god more for help..
Notification squad in da house! 🏠
In whos house? 😂😂😂
@@SaltyTales in your house bro, look inside the dry aging fridge 😂
Que pasa amigo.
Que paso brother! 😀😀
I'd say what's worth is up to the individual. We have a few jerky stores that have incredible jerky. Those are definitely worth it. Making my own is definitely worth. That big name brand gas station jerky on the other hand... to me. Not worth it at all.
I’m with you Rally! 🤟🏻👊🏻
Try curing and smoking your own bacon. You want to cold smoke it, though.
There are many more beef jerky videos coming! 😀😀😀
It's all good on your way of pronouncing Worcestershire sauce. I don't think anyone can say it right.
😂 thanks for that MrBig! 🤟🏻
@@SaltyTales I myself just play with the word. I call it worst shire. I can't say it correctly either.
@@MrBigMSG you are so close.. its pronounced wor-stir-shire
@@dudersaurus actually, the dictionary says the correct American pronunciation is wu-stuh-shr.
@@MrBigMSG that's great and all but the people from Worcestershire say it like the people from Worcestershire. id say their way was the right way lol
You are forgetting packaging, testing for Nutritional value and shipping
You forgot to add the cost of the beer you consume when making jerky. Unless it's just me that drinks during the most of the process just ignore my comment
Love it 😂🤟🏻
You grossly over-calculated your electric cost. 50W for four hours is 0.2kWh, average cost per kWh in Florida is $0.137. That’s 2.74 CENTS… not $2.40…
Go to Costco, get a brand that you like and buy it. I don't think this is worth the effort. It's only a rip off when you buy the tiny bags, so just buy in bulk when it's on sale.
🤔 let’s see!
Have you ever had homemade beef jerky? The stuff from the store just does not compare.
MINE aha!
LOL 😀😀
@@SaltyTales I ate all them they are mine haha. Make more XP

LOL Love it! 😂😂😂
Ninja! Worcestershire is pronouned wuss-tuh-sure. Wuss as in affraid, tuh rhymes with the, and sure as in 'sure why not'. Its actually easier to pronounce it correctly then not.
In England where it was invented it's pronounced wuss ter sheer sauce
Thanks Lee 😃

The spelling is all weird but here is the easy way. It is the shire of (pronounced) worster.
You say it war-stir-shire
LOL I know I mess up that one BAD! 😂😂 thanks for the help!
