Paul Rodgers has one of the top rock voices in history. Growing up in the 70s we heard him all the time on radio and records, took it for granted it became commonplace.
Ian Gillan, Steve Marriot...I'd put them up there also!
Top #5 Alltime..
Such a great old song. Paul Rogers said that the song was inspired by the deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
In concert Paul said this song goes out to everyone who lost a loved one. Also in concert up on the big screen they showed Jimi and Janis along with a host of others
It was about his friend and fellow band member, Paul Kossof but A lot of the 27 club deaths would have had a massive input as they were all happening around the same time
@@nickypoundtown9568 paul die after this song
To anybody who says that the final part of this song is too drawn out, I say its not nearly as long enough
Paul still out there selling out arenas. A musical genius/lyricist/instrumentalist.
If you like the singer, he was incredible in the band, FREE! You can really hear in his voice the essence of what inspired him.
Free one of the very best British bands ever
It was written in homage to Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and John Bonham
Maybe Jimi, Jim, and Janis.....John was still around when the song was released.
Bonham was alive when this was recorded.
Paul Rodgers is such a fabulous vocalist and they produced some tremendous tracks.
this is one of the greatest classic rock bands of all time. if you like music that really gets to your emotions, these guys are for you. just pick any song from any albums from the 70's, you can't go wrong. paul rodgers wrote this song for his guitarist from when he was in the band free who tragically died from drugs and alcohol in the 70's while on his way to being one of the great guitarists of all time. he also dedicated it to all of the great musicians that we lost way to early including hendrix and janis joplin. RIP paul kossoff. more bad co. please. i'll just ramble off a few of their classics ( too many to list them all.) - fade away - silver, blue and gold - love me somebody - burning sky - rock and roll fantasy -good lovin' gone bad - can't get enough - movin' on - rock steady - run with the pack - seagull, and of course the song bad company. pick any one, sit back, and enjoy.
Try "Ready for Love" "Rock Steady" "Silver, Blue and Gold" and, of course, "Bad Company. "
As others have said the songs was inspired by those rock stars that were lost too soon. The last time I saw Bad Company live in 2009, they showed photos on the screen behind them of many of the stars we lost including photos of their former band mates Paul Kossoff who was in Free with singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke and of Boz Burrell who was the bass player in the original Bad Company, both them passing after this song was written.
"How much everyone loves you"?
All the world will love you as long as you are a shooting star, no longer than that.
Nice reaction - check out lead singer Paul Rodgers work with the band 'Free' and the outstanding guitar work of Paul Kossoff, who tragically died young like the character in this song.
Just think The King probably heard this several times, since it was released in 1974, and pretty much embodied this as well.
With the untimely death of Steve Marriot there is not another white man alive that can compare to the pure soul in Paul Rodgers voice...heard him sing "dock of the bay" with Otis Reddings band and I swear I could feel Otis cry....free bad company the firm...ANYTHING with Paul Rodgers on vocals is second to none...his son Steve and daughter Jasmine show the talent doesn't fall far from the tree
Most of the concerts I attended seemed to have TDN on the bill!
Awesome stage show!
Great reaction! I count myself lucky to have seen them live, but it was not with Paul Rodgers, who sings here. Paul left for awhile and Brian Howe (RIP-2020) replaced him. He was also a great singer, and the band had a different sound while he was with them. He still did justice to the classics like this one! Done rambling now, lol.
I was a junior in high school when this album came out. I was already a fan of Paul Rodgers from his time with the band Free, so when Bad Company formed I was right there. Had this one and their 1st album "Bad Company" on 8-track so I could play them in the car on the way to and from school.
Aside from Free and Bad Company Paul was also in the band The Firm with Jimmy Page, Chris Slade (AC/DC) and toured with Queen from 2004-2009 as well as a solos act.
Thanks for reacting to this song. Bad Company was always one of my favorites. Just about any song they've done is excellent.
I was watching your face when I knew what was coming. I saw that you "got" it right away. Actually the title of the song gives it away. A "shooting star" always burns up. A brief, bright life then death. You're right about all the artists that have lost their lives due to drugs and alcohol. I've seen it time and time again during my life. It's very sad. Cheers, Steve
They had a lot of great songs. She brings me love is a good ballad that doesn't get much play
You mention Amy Whinehouse being 27 and as result she is now a part of the infamous 27 club with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison etc. Here is a song called Club 27 by the very talented MonaLisa Twins ua-cam.com/video/hAaLlR7Wg10/v-deo.html
Thank you, Dani! As always, I love listening to your reactions, and look forward to them each day!
WISDOM , YOUNG LADY...😎😔☝
Great tune! Classic.
ln 2006/7 Paul Rodgers toured with Queen. ln that time, they also performed a few Bad Company and Free songs so this song could equally have been a tribute to Freddie as Koss. When Free recorded their 1st album Tons of Sobs, Koss was 16 years of age, two of the others 17 and the fourth, 19 and they did world tours. lmagine the pressure!!
A SHOOTING STAR... A brief explosion across the sky and gone just as quickly as it appeared...
a beautiful sight!
love your perspective on this song
Dani, Great song.
And a shooting star, of course, is a dying star, burning out in the atmosphere, having gone off course, gotten caught in Earth's gravity, and having never encountered anything like a planetary gravity, just burns out.
Every time I listen to that song it puts a tear drop in my eyes 😢.
a great tune
You dont believe me, i had that vinyl LP when it came out! " I Can't Get Enough" was it on? Long time ago!Sorry was the one with the Black cover i had..long gone now scratched at parties and borowed by someone and never returned! I have some record myself that Way!
I've always viewed this as a catchy tune. I never paid close attention to the lyrics before. Thanks, Dani.
One of the first songs i knew all the lyrics by heart. Back in 76/77 😜😎
Great song
I just love the guitar riffs in this song . It is also a great sing along song. Unfortunately, on live versions, they never seem to duplicate the albums greatness. The riffs are or not as robust or searing, and Paul Rodgers is always ad-libbing the song and making it harder to sing along. Other than that, I love this song and most of what Bad Company put out.
This tells the story of young boy who grows up to be a rock star, but succumbs to rock and roll excess and dies of a drug overdose. According to Bad Company lead singer Paul Rodgers, who wrote it, the song is a warning. He wrote it about the casualties of the music business; people like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin as well as others who didn't make it. An eerie parallel to the character in this song is Paul Kossoff, who was Paul Rodgers' bandmate in the group Free. Kossoff died of a heroin overdose in 1976, a year after this was released. The guitarist was just 25 years old when he died.
Lead singer Paul Rodgers of Bad Company's prior band was free and their guitarist was named Paul kossoff and he died from addiction that was one of the main inspirations but of course it's a long list sadly
Good old song.
Bad Company has a loaded catalog. Many great rockers, but another slow one by them is Silver, Blue And Gold. Think you'll like it.
U should listen to Ready For Love. It's one of my favorite Bad Company songs.
I suspect he is actually talking about Paul Kossoff ,,,,guitarist with Free whom he was in the same r band as him.
Love anything from Paul Rodgers. I appreciate your review.
~Lots of people below can't spell his last name properly I see.
group - Bad Company - song Bad Company
The very end of the 60's to start of the 70's saw the loss of the "27 Club" when it came to tragic endings for music stars that left us to soon. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison all died at the age of 27 due to drug abuse at the height of their fame. Unfortunately, history keeps repeating itself as we've lost most of the popular Grunge Era singers like Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, etc.
Interesting piece of Rock History for you, (in case you haven't heard this before) Jimmy Paige (lead guitarist Led Zeppelin) once said Paul Rogers was the Greatest voice of the Rock Era (or something like that, its been a while since I heard the interview) anyhow Jimmy Paige and Paul Rogers (Lead Singer for Bad Company) formed a band in the 90s called "The Firm and had a hit song titled: Radioactive. Here is Paul Rogers (Bad Company) and Jimmy Paige (Led Zeppelin) getting their groove on with "The firm - Radioactive ua-cam.com/video/3973tfsllqw/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Nice and fun reaction vid! Also, yes it was also a sad song. Very thoughtful commentary.
So many great songs from Bad Company listen to seagull it's an acoustic number it's beautiful
I remember when Jimi Hendrix died. Everyone were so 😓 bummed. And Janice Joplin's death also. And musicians keep dying.
So sad.
best southern rock voice paul rodgers
Love this song and this reaction Dani
Awhile back you did a reaction to chains by Tina arena well another one of her songs is Sorrento moon so would love a reaction to it. ☺
Hi Dani, I emailed you about an autographed photo a week or so ago.
Seagull by Paul Rodgers, the x lead singer..love yu
I saw Bad Company sing this song live! Great tune, sad but true! Elvis fell victim to fame!
Please react to Billy idol rebel yell
Also suggest The Firm a group that formed around Paul Rodgers(the singer here)and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin just to name 2 of the great artist in the group. I suggest Satisfaction Guaranteed as a first track to give a try. :)
Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison?
You're not the tip of the spear.
Rodgers wrote this song as a tribute to Paul Kossoff.
This song was released in 1974 and Paul Kossoff died in March 1976, so I think the song was actually a lament for rock stars who had passed away in the late 1960s/early 1970s (such as Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin). The song proved to be tragically prophetic for Rodgers' old band-mate.
I really don`t think they made a bad song !
27 Club

Seems to me many great artists are tortured souls. Seems like a cruel trade-off.
You are very perceptive... it was personal to him...
Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest rock singers of all times.
