Awesome video! I was surprised how smooth the camera was during the speed runs. I love that you downplay the speed. Depending on the precision of the instruments, it would be easy to say that 49.88 knots is rounded up to 49.9 knots, and 49.9 is rounded up to 50 knots. Nice work and good luck blowing past the 50 knot mark!

Nice to see you out at my favourite spot. Impressive speeds from both of you. That looked a properly windy day, and yes, that SW corner is often flatter and windier. The downside is losing kites; unless it's rescued, it'll be chewed up by the harbour wall. 😒

Great video Sam. I hope we see some more speed run in the future. I'm sure you would have beaten the 50 mph limit with a Turbine kite. And a modern speed board also would have help.
Not to depress you but a speed run record is on a 500m run and not just the max speed ;-).
You should come in the South of France and meet Alex Caizergue at the Salt and Speed spot. He created this channel in the objective to beat his record.

That rpm looks very medium aspect. You’d have blown 50 away with a proper higher aspect kite🤘
The fastest kite is not an inflatable if you want to go really fast it's definitely the wrong kite. Can you work out what would be the fastest kite to use ?
Probably not. Probably iko trained and all you know is one type of kite

@@kiteaust settle down. He was .2 knots from what he wanted to do. On a medium aspect kite.
@@kiteaust Ok so you want to make someone feel stupid? I will give you a taste of your own medicine. @mike smith was spot on, a higher aspect kite like the Ozone Edge would have worked better however saying that foil kites are the answer for breaking records, you're way off the money. Sure they work in the lighter winds and are more suited to giant speed boards like the 3 fin board that James had at the start but when it's blowing 40-50 knots which still seems to be the winds that are required to get to 55+ knots, a foil kite wouldn't survive or the rider wouldn't from the launch. 20-30 knots foil kites can be faster, past that tube kites are way more stable and able to handle mega winds with mega gusts. Also, foil kites like the race kites that are being used for hydrofoil racing are designed to achieve maximum velocity made good (VMG) they are not designed to go much faster than about 35-40 knots (max speed of hydro racers). Last thing, if you're talking about buggy racing kites, yeah good luck launching a 5m in 50 knots of wind.

nicely tried and unfortunately just under 50, it certainly there and even more, but I think you should have had a kite that did not distort as much as what I saw at the RPM on the video. good luck next time and unfortunatelly I recognized your backward kiteloop crash. when i think about it my neck still hurts 🤙🏻. Nasty crash looks like you could have tangled up in your lines if you were unlucky. 50 knots is super fast, I have recorded myself at 25 knots on a free race board and thought that was super fast :)

I like to buy a speed board. I find only F-one AC21 and I wonder if there other option for less necessary wind for get going.

Non kitsurfer here and to me during all of the speedruns it seemed the kite was quite high off the water - wouldn't you have gone faster if it was closer to the water ?
now that looks Quite fcukin TERRIFYING and i thought Windsurfing with a Foil was Scary

can somebody explain to me how control my speed. I feel when the kite is 45 grades my speed is overpowered then I can't control it
That last crash gave me whiplash. Quite amazing you hit near 50 on an RPM, I reckon the Raptor would have been quicker. The real question is what did you get over 500m? ;)
What TT board is good for medium wind speed?
